Mike emphasizes the need to detach ourselves from worldly possessions and strive to be channels of God's grace. By doing so, when we receive blessings, we can in turn become a blessing to others. Waiting rarely feels like a blessing. In today's prayer and devotional, we reflect on how waiting often feels like life is passing us by while our prayers remain unanswered. Whether the longing is for a child, a marriage, healing, clarity, or a breakthrough, seasons of waiting can stir deep discouragement. But Scripture assures us that God is good to those who wait for Him, not only after the answer comes but in the waiting itself. Waiting is not wasted time — it is often the place where God does His most transformative work. Gratitude during waiting does not minimize the pain; instead, it shifts our focus from what we lack to the God who is present with us. The “soil seasons” are where roots grow deep, character is formed, and faith matures. The author shares her own story of longing for motherhood — a journey marked by years of delay, painful loss, and a NICU stay that tested her trust all over again. Through that journey, she discovered that the miracle was not only the child she finally held, but the heart God formed within her while she waited. The same is true for us: the waiting shapes us in ways the answer never could. If you find yourself in the difficult tension of waiting today, know this: you are not being overlooked or forgotten. You are being prepared. God is aligning details you cannot see. Gratitude becomes a doorway to peace, grounding you in His goodness even when the future feels uncertain. Today's Bible Reading:“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.” – Lamentations 3:25 Main Takeaways Waiting is not punishment; it is preparation. God is actively working in the unseen details of your life. Gratitude invites God into your ache and strengthens your faith. Seasons of waiting shape you for the blessings to come. God's timing is perfect — His delays are not denials. A Prayer to Give Thanks in the Seasons of Waiting Father, thank You for being with me in the waiting. Thank You for the ways You’re working, even when I cannot see it. Forgive me for the moments I’ve doubted Your goodness or tried to move ahead of Your plan. Teach me to find peace right here — not in the next season, but in Your presence with me now. Help me choose gratitude even in uncertainty. Thank You for shaping my faith, deepening my dependence, and strengthening my trust. Thank You that Your timing is perfect, and You do not withhold good from those who walk with You. Help me to rest, to release control, and to trust that Your delays are not denials. Prepare my heart for whatever You have ahead, and help me wait well with a spirit of praise and expectation. In Jesus’ name, Amen. 822 Fear Not There Is A Savior, A Guided Christian Meditation on Luke 2:10-12 with the Recenter With Christ app The purpose of this podcast is to help you find more peace in  and connect with the true source of peace, Jesus Christ.  Outline: Relaxation, Reading, Meditation, Prayer, Contemplation and Visualization.  You can sit comfortably and uninterrupted for about 20 minutes. You should hopefully not be driving or anything tense or unrelaxing.  If you feel comfortable to do so, I invite you to close your eyes.   Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation:   Breathe and direct your thoughts to connecting with God. Let your stomach be a balloon inflate,  deflate. Scripture for Meditation Luke 2  KJV 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. NABRE 10 The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger." Reflection on Scripture: Do not be afraid. So often when angels show up to humans they repeat this message. Dont be afraid. Fear seems to be something God does not want us to experience, especially in relationship with pure Glory. In 2nd Timothy it says God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and love and a sound mind. In other places in scripture it talks about fear of the Lord but this is more about deference to His glory and grandeur. We should recognize the amazing blessing that the God, who created the universe, is concerned with our life. That fear is also described as respect.  But with so many bad things happening in the world and the fact that evil exists in the world, why would we not be afraid? I love how clearly this scripture answers that question. The solution to fear is not self aggrandizement. We don't need to make ourselves feel powerful in order to overcome fear. What is the solution then? We have a savior. We have a Messiah, an anointed one who will rescue us. If we have a Messiah, what else is there to fear? We all will have bad things happen to us and eventually lose people we love. We will all die. But God has overcome the world. There is nothing to fear there. Another place in scripture that says that We shouldn't be afraid of people who can only kill us but rather fear God who can kill us and send us to Hell. Yet we have a God who has chosen not to leave that as the only option but to offer us eternal salvation. With a God who has chosen to offer us eternal joy with Him, what is there to fear. Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm: I invite you to sit in silence feeling patient for your own faults and trials. With heartfelt prayers and encouragement, she invites us to rely on God's presence, embrace the journey of faith, and remember that, even in difficult times, we are deeply loved. Settle in for Scripture, reflection, and encouragement for your spiritual walk, right here on the Daily Radio Bible. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Jesus teaches us through the storms. Watching the storms roll in on the Oregon coast can be mesmerizing. But there's a lesson that goes deeper when you're in the middle of the storm yourself. That's just how Jesus teaches—sometimes he places us right in the thick of it, not as punishment, but for our growth. In today's passage, we see that after the miracle of feeding the multitudes, Jesus insisted his disciples get in the boat and cross the lake. It was his idea. Why did he insist? Maybe because they wanted to stay wrapped up in the excitement of the miracle, or perhaps, as fishermen, they sensed a storm coming and wanted to avoid it. We don't know for sure, but what we do know is that Jesus was adamant, and they obeyed. Their obedience didn't buy them smooth sailing—instead, they found themselves far from land, battling heavy waves. This reminds us: just because we're obedient doesn't mean we won't be tested, and it doesn't guarantee calm seas. Sometimes Jesus directs us straight into the storm, knowing what awaits us. The truth is, storms will come, even in the center of God's will. But when we are in those storms, Jesus cares. He knows our burdens and our fears, and he is praying for us. Jesus was teaching his disciples to rely fully on him—removing every comfort and prop so that faith would truly grow. He brought them into open water, into trouble, to teach them to walk by faith, not sight. Faith is a process, not an event. Our strength may fail, but Jesus never will. In the storm, he speaks to us: "Don't be afraid. Take courage. I am here." Awe at the presence of God is the beginning of faith. Peter experienced this awe and, for a moment, stepped out onto the water—not on his own power, but fully dependent on Jesus. If you're surrounded by wind and waves today, listen for the voice that calls you forth: step out, take courage, and let awe lead you to faith. Let this be our prayer: that we might learn in our storms to trust the abiding presence and love of Christ, and have the courage to respond in faith—one step at a time. May we move from fear to faith, knowing he is with us in every season. That's a prayer for my own soul, and a prayer for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ.  Amen.  OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL

Our Holy Father Amphilocus, Bishop of Iconium (395)

"A fellow-countryman and friend of St Basil the Great and other great saints of the fourth century, Amphilochius early forsook the bustle of the world and withdrew to a cave where, as a solitary, he lived in asceticism for forty years. The episcopal throne in Iconium then fell empty, and Amphilochius was chosen in a wonderful way and consecrated as Bishop of Iconium. He was a marvellous shepherd and a great defender of the purity of the Orthodox faith, and took part in the Second Ecumenical Council in 381. He fought zealously against Macedonius, and against the Arians and the Eunomians. He personally begged Theodosius the Great to drive the Arians out of every city in the Empire, but the Emperor did not comply with his request. After a few days, Amphilochius came before the Emperor again. When the bishop was taken into the presence-chamber, the Emperor was sitting on his throne with his son Arcadius, whom he had taken as co-Emperor, sitting at his right hand. Entering the room, Amphilochius did reverence to Theodosius, but ignored Arcadius as though he were not there. Infuriated by this, the Emperor Theodosius commanded that Amphilochius be instantly driven from court. The saint then said to the Emperor: 'Do you see, 0 Emperor, how you do not tolerate a slight paid to your son? In the same way, God the Father does not tolerate dishonour paid to His Son, turning with loathing from those who blaspheme against Him, and being angered at that accursed Arian heresy.' Hearing this, the Emperor understood the reason for Amphilochius's seeming disrespect towards his son, and marvelled at his wisdom and daring. Among many other works, Amphilochius wrote several books on the Faith. He entered into rest in 395 in great old age, and went to immortal life." (Prologue)   Saint Amphilocus was a kinsman of St Gregory the Theologian: his father's sister Nonna (August 5) was St Gregory's mother. Amphilocus himself was a lifelong friend of all three of the great Cappadocian Fathers: Sts Basil, Gregory the Theologian and Gregory of Nyssa.

Romans 8:28-30 — The great doctrines of election, predestination, calling, and the final perseverance of the saints are offered in Scripture as comfort for the believer in times of trials and suffering. The apostle Paul is primarily interested in believers seeing how they are in God's purpose of salvation. The Christian can fall from the pastoral function of these truths when they discuss the doctrines in an argumentative or philosophical manner. In this sermon on Romans 8:26–30 titled “The Believer's Security,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones pauses from expounding the content of the doctrine of the wondrous, mysterious mind of God in salvation and instead is concerned with the Christian's posture. It is not enough to be “right” on these doctrines. The attitude towards God and others in pondering these Calvinistic truths matters a great deal. If this topic produces anything except humility and reverence, warns Dr. Lloyd-Jones, then these doctrines have not been understood as they ought. As one approaches the foot of this holy mountain – predestination, election, calling, and final assurance – the outcome should be holiness. If one's interest in these doctrines is purely philosophical, they will not be turned toward holiness, but rather antinomianism will surely follow. Beware how one approaches these great doctrines of grace as posture changes everything. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/603/29?v=20251111

Ever wondered the secret to marriages that last 60 years? I heard about an elderly couple celebrating their diamond anniversary who shared their story: On their honeymoon at the Grand Canyon, the wife's mule stumbled, and she said calmly to the animal, “That's once.” When it stumbled again, she said, “That's twice.” The third time, she got off and shot the mule right between the eyes. When her husband asked why, she looked him in the eyes and said, “That's once”—and they never had another major disagreement! While there's humor in that story, the truth is that God desires for everyone who gets married to truly live happily ever after. When two people get married, it's God's will for that marriage to be a happy union instead of a civil war. He wants every marriage to end in celebration, not separation, enjoying marriage, not enduring it. That's why God's Word gives us a marriage example through an old love song: It's King Solomon's Song of Songs. In this book, you find the four essential keys to building a marriage that lasts.

Gratitude doesn’t come easily for everyone—especially if life has conditioned you to expect the other shoe to drop. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 calls us to give thanks in all circumstances, not because everything feels good, but because God is faithfully at work in every moment. When negativity feels more natural than gratitude, shifting your perspective becomes a slow, intentional surrender. But as God reshapes the heart, thankfulness becomes less of a struggle and more of a steady rhythm. Highlights Early experiences can shape a pessimistic mindset, but God can retrain our hearts toward gratitude. Gratitude leads to contentment—and contentment frees us from constantly chasing “more.” A simple gratitude journal can refocus your mind on God’s ongoing work, even in small blessings. Positive community helps redirect your perspective toward God’s faithfulness. Jesus modeled thankfulness—even in pain—and invites us to adopt the same posture. Choosing gratitude is a daily decision that transforms the way we interpret trials and blessings. Shifting your viewpoint ultimately reshapes your attitude and nourishes a thankful spirit. Full Transcript Below: When Thankfulness Doesn’t Come NaturallyBy: Michelle Lazurek Bible Reading:“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 As a kid, I didn't have it easy. I came from a controlling household, plus I faced several health challenges. Life was not easy, even in my childhood. Even though I enjoyed the simplicity of playing with toys, playing outside, and just enjoying life, I endured other issues that made my childhood less than simplistic. My mother was also a negative person. She often saw the glass as half-empty, rather than half-full. This taught me to be a pessimistic person, focusing on the negative side of things rather than the positive side. If something good came my way, I often wondered when things would soon turn bad. For years after becoming a Christian, I still felt like this way. Because the Christian life has been full of ups and downs, and I've endured my share of trials, it's easy to look on the negative side of things. This viewpoint has caused me to become less grateful and more entitled. As I've matured in my faith, God has taught me that it's essential to be thankful for everything I have. When I'm grateful, I'm content. When I’m content, I'm no longer searching for the perfect life, the simple pleasures, or the luxuries that I feel I deserve. Switching my viewpoint didn't come easily. Because I had been pessimistic and that attitude was deeply ingrained in my mind, it was hard to shake. But I've learned over the years how to make thankfulness a daily activity, even though it doesn't come naturally to me. Here are some ways to adopt a spirit of thankfulness even when it doesn't come naturally: Start a Gratitude Journal One of the easiest ways for me to switch my viewpoint is to start a gratitude journal. Each day, I'm able to write down even just a few things for which I'm thankful. These can be small blessings, such as having clean clothes or a job. It can also be the bigger things that God does, like the miraculous ways in which He works, or the way He heals my body when it's sick. The most important thing I need to remember is that God is constantly at work in my life. It's a matter of whether I choose to see it or not. Keeping a gratitude journal shifts my focus every day to what I should be thankful for and content in my life. Because I'm someone who doesn't enjoy journaling, this is an easy way for me to adopt the habit of journaling, without having to write complete sentences. Use bullet points and write the words regarding the blessing, so you know what it references. At the end of the month, go back and think of all the ways God has blessed you that month. During your prayer time, thank God for all the ways He is working and for all the ways you see His blessings. Surround Yourself with Positive People Because I learned my pessimistic attitude from my mother, it was an attitude easy to adopt, as she was always around. However, when I became a Christian and attended churches in my area, I surrounded myself with positive people. Instead of focusing on the negative trials in their lives, they chose to be grateful to God for all the ways he was working. As I participated in small groups and heard about all the ways God was working in their lives, it became easier for me to adopt that same attitude. Analyze the company you keep. Do you surround yourself with naturally pessimistic people? Be in regular community with those who seek to see the world positively. Adopt the same attitude of seeing how God is working, rather than focusing on all the things He hasn't done. Adopt Jesus’ Attitude Jesus’ attitude was one of thankfulness. Even in his last moments before he was going to be crucified, he chose to break bread with his disciples. Although I'm sure they discussed many things throughout that meal, the Gospels record that Jesus took the bread and cup and gave thanks to God. If Jesus can choose to adopt an attitude of thankfulness even moments before he knew he was going to be crucified and brutally beaten, then so can we. We can adopt the same attitude of gratitude by looking at our trials and seeking to choose joy rather than sorrow. Although it is normal to feel sadness or despair in times of deep spiritual trial, we mustn't stay there. Instead, grieve the loss, but then move on to a spirit of thankfulness. See all the ways God may be sparing you from the situation if the answer to your prayer was no. If you are in a trial, see all the ways God is refining your character through it. By changing your viewpoint, you change your attitude. Change your perspective to one of gratitude, knowing that God is working on your behalf. Choose to think of it this way rather than dwelling upon the negative parts of life. By choosing to focus on the positive aspects of life rather than the negative ones, you can cultivate gratitude even when it doesn't come naturally. Adopt behaviors and surround yourself with people who will help you give thanks in all circumstances. Father, let us be people who give thanks in all we do. Help us understand how you always work in all situations. Let us adopt an attitude of thankfulness, even when our will is bent toward negativity and discontentment. Amen. Are we seeing a rise of the most dangerous personality type among the Gen Z generation? On In The Market with Janet Parshall this week we started off the week with our expert on narcissism addressing this very issue along with more of your questions. Once again using both her professional training and her personal experiences, continued to show us to how to biblically address the many challenges that come with having a narcissist in your life and family. A joyful biking adventure around the world turned into a horrible tragedy of violence and death at the hands of ISIS terrorists. We were once again joined by a prolific author who tackled their amazingly tragic story. His meticulous research and gifted ability to tell a story takes us right into their experiences, the transformative encounters along the way and how and why one member’s hopeful but naïve view of the world became a doorway to their demise. The idea of “spiritual stupidity” may seem at first blush offensive but as our guest, a highly respected evangelist and author pointed out, the bible is filled with stories of people who were spiritually stupid who did not take the warnings from God seriously and lived to regret that choice sometimes with eternal consequences. Through the stories of Adam & Eve, their sons, King Saul and others our guest reminded us that God is both a merciful and a serious God and that His warning are real and not to be ignored. The incarnation of Christ, God becoming man and dwelling among us has been a rock of offense for many people throughout history. Many Jewish scholars has stumbled over it and tripping has created a wide chasm between Christians and Jews who share the same Messiah. But we were reminded that the incarnation is grounded in the Hebrew scriptures as prophecy and promise in the Old Testament and our guest used history, science to once again compelling show that the impossible did happen and that the acceptance or rejection of this amazing truth has wide ranging and eternal consequences for us all. From antisemitism to A.I. From Gaza tensions to government shutdowns. There has been no lack of news fighting for our attention this week. It can be easy to get overwhelmed by the constant onslaught. And that is why we invite you once again to join us for more lessons on the practical, real-time applications of God’s unbending truth as the measuring rod against the crooked, confused and sometimes completely deceptive goods that inform and influence the world around us through the news and social media that we consume daily. On In The Market with Janet Parshall this week we shared the powerful story of what it looks like when you follow God’s prompting wherever He may lead you. For our guest that prompting led to the creation of a human trafficking air rescue mission. He shared how God provided all that he needed even when he had no airplane, no plans and no experience. His story was a powerful reminder to us all of what utter dependance upon God REALLY looks like. As we approach the holiday season we can be forgiven for allowing ourselves to fall into a false sense of spiritual security. But once again, our guest reminded us that Satan and the demons do not take holidays or time off and that spiritual warfare is real business for them. We once again tackled you most challenging questions on this multi-faceted topic with a man who has been in the trenches of this battle and who brings solid, biblically sound advice and experience to guide us a deeper trust and dependance upon God to stand against the enemy. Antisemitism is an ancient evil that has once again taken center stage in the minds and hearts of so many people around the world. Dress in new motivations, it is still the same old lie that led to the Nazi holocaust and so many other tragedies across time. Our guest took us back in time to help us understand more of the roots of this evil and then he addressed how antisemitism is being used to deceive and motivate hatred in the unsuspecting through Islam and the liberal ideology of our day. We shared with you the literal life saving message of hope from a highly respected doctor who told us about a way to reverse the life altering impact of the abortion pill process after it has been started. Our guest shared how this abortion pill reversal treatment has since become a mission to inform anyone considering abortion and to save the lives of preborn children before it is too late. Another week is behind us, but we dare not rest on our laurels when it comes to being vigilant about the influences that we allow to impact our lives. That’s why we continue our open invitation for you to take a seat in our radio classroom as our favorite husband and wife teaching team continue showing us how to use the God’s word to measure again the many, many crooked ideas and deceptive delusions that permeate our world today.Become a Parshall Partner: http://moodyradio.org/donateto/inthemarket/partnersSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Couldn't God have come up with a much simpler plan on how we should live life than having to follow a Bible the size of ours? If you have, then today's message is for you, because Jesus Himself breaks the rules of His day to prove a point: maybe we are seeing God's Word from the wrong point of view. The rapture is a sign-less event and it could take place at any moment. Would you be ready to meet the Lord if the rapture were to take place tonight while you were sleeping?Would you be taken or left behind? If you are uncertain or have any questions about your relationship with God, I will carefully explain how you can be sure you are ready and we will pray together at the end of this study. It is very possible, and in my opinion probable, that the antichrist is alive and well and hidden somewhere in the political, religious, or economic shadows awaiting his prophetic promotion! In today's study, we'll go over 5 questions about the coming Antichrist:1 - Why bother teaching on the Antichrist? Shouldn't we just teach on Jesus Christ?2 - What are the names and aliases given to the Antichrist?3 - What are the remarkable similarities between Jesus Christ and the Antichrist?4 - Will the Antichrist be Jewish or Gentile?5 - When will the Antichrist be revealed?Key Scripture for today's teaching: Revelation 13:11-15Other Scriptures mentioned in the teaching: 2 Thessalonians 2:3-8Unless otherwise noted, most Scripture will be read from the New Living Translation (NLT) Bible. For further study, check out the playlist: “Who is the Coming Antichrist?” - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsX8E19Azl59IeGeb3hQwi2cfEdGkC8_uThank you for watching and subscribe for new content each week. In this tender, emotional episode, Bob and Linda open up about a simple idea that completely reframed how they parent: the "$50,000 Moment." It started with a story Bob read — one so moving he couldn't finish it without crying — about a dad who imagined paying $50,000 to relive a single bedtime with his 10-year-old. That thought experiment changed him, and now it's changing the Lotich household too. If you're a parent (or even if you aren't), this episode will recalibrate how you see the people in your life and remind you of the beauty tucked into ordinary days.   In This Episode: The story that made Bob stop checking the clock at bedtime Why we forget the voices of our kids at different ages The biblical wisdom behind remembering the brevity of life How to recognize "$50,000 moments" in real time Why presence is a discipleship practice—not a personality trait What Jesus and Mr. Rogers both modeled about "holy slowness" How this principle applies to more than kids A tender story about Bob's uncle and what it taught him about presence Scripture Mentioned (NLT): Psalm 90:12 — "Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom." Key Takeaways: You won't realize the value of a moment until it's gone. Bob shares how he can no longer remember what his now-11-year-old sounded like as a six-year-old—and how that realization hit him like a ton of bricks. Future you would pay anything to get today back. The "time-machine thought experiment" reframes bedtime, routines, and interruptions as priceless opportunities. Presence is a form of love—and discipleship. Looking at the way Jesus interacted with people, we see an invitation to slow down and be with those around us. This isn't just about kids. Parents, friends, coworkers, church community members—none of us are guaranteed another moment together. You don't have to create regrets. You can create reminders. Bob calls them $50,000 moments—a cue to pause, breathe, and fully engage.   Practical Ways to Apply This: Ask yourself during ordinary moments: "If I had to pay to relive this, how much would I spend?" During bedtime or stressful transitions, picture your 80-year-old self watching. Treat others—kids, friends, the barista, the bus driver—as people God placed in your path today. “The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.” (John 15:19 NLT) God is faithful. As with some of His other attributes, His faithfulness isn’t always apparent to us. Sometimes His ways seem harsh, but if we trust in Him, eventually, we will recognize the unshakable faithfulness behind them. “‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts’” (Isaiah 55:8–9 NLT). We can’t always trust our feelings when it comes to God’s faithfulness. What seems like callousness may in fact be evidence of God’s commitment to us and to our spiritual well-being. God doesn’t promise to make our lives free from pain and struggle. He promises to make our lives spiritually fruitful if we remain faithful to Him. I heard a story about some fish suppliers who were having problems shipping cod from the East Coast. By the time it reached the West, it was spoiled. They froze it, but by the time it arrived, it was mushy. So, they decided to send it alive, but it arrived dead. They tried sending it alive again, but with one difference: They included a catfish in each tank. You see, catfish are the natural enemies of cod. By the time the cod arrived, they were alive and well because they had spent their trip fleeing the catfish. Maybe God has put a catfish in your tank to keep you alive and well spiritually. He’s faithful that way. Maybe there’s a person at work who always has eight hard questions for you every morning regarding spiritual things. Maybe it’s that neighbor who is giving you a hard time for your faith in Jesus. Maybe it’s a spouse or a family member who doesn’t believe. You are wondering why this is happening. It’s like that catfish. That person is keeping you alert. Shortly before His crucifixion, Jesus told the disciples, “The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you” (John 15:19 NLT). God will allow persecution in the life of a believer. If you’re experiencing persecution, here are two things to remember: First, persecution confirms that you are a child of God. Second, persecution causes you to cling more tightly to Jesus. That’s God’s faithfulness at work. Embrace it. Give thanks for it. And when you’re suffering persecution for your faith, remember, this world isn’t your real home anyway. If you persevere with a steady, peaceful spirit, trusting in Jesus to help you, your welcome into Heaven will be more glorious than you can imagine. You can depend on it because God is faithful. Gospel Luke 20:27-40 Some Sadducees, those who deny that there is a resurrection, came forward and put this question to Jesus, saying, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us, If someone's brother dies leaving a wife but no child, his brother must take the wife and raise up descendants for his brother. Now there were seven brothers; the first married a woman but died childless. Then the second and the third married her, and likewise all the seven died childless. Finally the woman also died. Now at the resurrection whose wife will that woman be? For all seven had been married to her." Jesus said to them, "The children of this age marry and remarry; but those who are deemed worthy to attain to the coming age and to the resurrection of the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. They can no longer die, for they are like angels; and they are the children of God because they are the ones who will rise. That the dead will rise even Moses made known in the passage about the bush, when he called 'Lord' the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob; and he is not God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive." Some of the scribes said in reply, "Teacher, you have answered well." And they no longer dared to ask him anything. Reflection One of the things that Jesus brought into consciousness in his story as it unfolds in the New Testament, is how we have to go beyond the logical, beyond the ordinary, enter the world of mysticism and mystery. And in this particular passage, it seems to me that the Sadducees are using their minds, and Jesus inviting people to live not so much in your mind, but in a heart relationship with God, an intimacy with him. Where the promise is, nothing will harm you and you will always live. Nothing can destroy you. Closing Prayer Father, bless us with the confidence that comes from knowing who you really are. Help us not to ever doubt that your plan for us is that we grow, we evolve, we become more who we are and we ultimately live with you forever. And we ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.
