Henry Cavil aka THE SUPERMAN squares off against Ben Affleck, the Batman himself, in one of the biggest and most controversial comic book movies ever made. Is it an abomination? Is it a masterpiece? Somewhere in between? We all personally love this movie. We have very different reasons, and quite a few criticisms of it still, so on this episode of Press Play Again, we dive into the film and talk about some of our wishes for it. We also discuss the possibility of the movie being instead released in two parts: -What changes would have to be made? -Motivations for Superman and Batman's fight, do they feel right? -The character of Bruce Wayne/Batman in particular. Are the differences introduced to him in this movie forgivable? -Does this movie hold up as a Man of Steel Sequel? This is our longest episode yet, and naturally it came for BvS. We have a lot to say, but we want to hear from YOU too ya little rascals! We would love to read your comments and engage in the conversation further with you. Want to watch us instead? This week we have some crazy reveals on WandaVision, and Press Play Again is here to break them down with you with our limited (and probably wrong) theories and knowledge. FULL SPOILERS for Wandavision from this point on!*** This week, we discuss: -AGATHA HARKNESS! Friend or foe? Is she the real villain, or is there still a possibility of.. -MAFISTO! If Agatha is usually not Wanda's enemy in comic lore, we still think Mafisto could show up as we near the series end. -If there's still a big reveal to come, who is it? Dr. Strange? John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic? If you enjoy this episode, we’re just getting started! Follow us on Twitter @AgainPress and make sure to subscribe and leave a comment! Part 2 of this discussion will be available here later today! : Want to watch us instead? Youtube: bit.ly/pressplayagain In a way, this feels like what Press Play Again has been building towards this whole time. We're doing a limited rewatch of the first few DCEU movies leading into Zack Snyder's Justice League, starting with Man of Steel. If for some reason you haven't seen Man of Steel, what are you doing?! But also, FULL SPOILERS for the movie from this point on. In this episode, we discuss: -A lot of our touchstone to Superman is the Smallville TV show. We compare these iterations with their iconic counterparts we grew up with. -Christopher Nolan's involvement in this movie -The big differentiation in Man of Steel from classic Superman lore, Kal-El being the first natural birth on Krypton is centuries. Personally, I think this idea is done so well that I had no idea it wasn't a classic Superman thing! We discuss. -So much more, including the iconic flight scene, an analysis of Superman's new suit, and Hans Zimmer's INCREDIBLE score are all in our part 2 of this review! Want to see us instead? Youtube: bit.ly/pressplayagain Happy Halloweenie! It's episode 6 of WandaVision and this week, it's Halloween in February. Who cares. We're down for any excuse to make it Halloween again. This week's episode continues the trend of things getting weirder and creepier, with our first full episode with Evan Peter's multi-verse version of Quicksilver being along for the ride. Full Spoilers for this episode of WandaVision and potential theories: -Now that we've had an episode to sit with Even Peters, we discuss any clues we can get into what's going on and if this is really Quicksilver, or a bigger villain in disguise. -Throwback costumes for all the characters were RAD. -Jump scares. Dead Quicksilver. "Dead, Dead, Dead!" Oh man, if I were a kid watching this I'd be freaked out. -Elizabeth Olsen continues to absolutely crush it. Want to watch us instead? Youtube: bit.ly/pressplayagain This week's movie is Promising Young Woman! This is a relatively new movie that you can watch from the safety of your own home (unfortunately, it costs $20 to rent) but boy is it worth it. Full spoilers for Promising Young Woman. In this episode, we discuss: -Carey Mulligan's incredible performance. Seriously, she deserves an oscar. -The complex story and why it's important. Men are shown in many different lights, including "nice guys" and the danger that still comes with that territory if your actions do not back up your act. -A pretty disturbing final act of the movie, that finds a way to wrap up this film like a thriller would, while still staying true to the message of the movie. This shit is wrong, it's a problem, and even if you aren't seeing it, it's happening. Lives are affected, changed, ruined. -We talk so much more, please watch this incredible movie first and then join us as we dig through it! If you enjoy this episode, we’re just getting started! Want to watch? Youtube: bit.ly/pressplayagain At long last, our The Little Things episode. God, what a letdown this movie is. While we all have different reasons for not liking it, we can all agree that this movie had a lot more potential and didn't even come close to living up to what it could have been. Full spoilers for The Little Things. In this episode, we discuss: - Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto's performances. What do these actors bring to the table in light of what their given? - Some of the movie's most egregious editing blunders, including the bar beer scene, Denzel's driving, and the missed opportunity of that interrigation scene. -Jared Leto's performances continue to divide. -Why do characters make the decisions they in the climax of this movie? Want to watch? Youtube: bit.ly/pressplayagain Let's get this out the way first. Matt has NEVER seen Lord of the Rings properly. After a failed attempt at getting him to watch the extended cuts of the movies two years ago, he fell asleep countless times and ultimately never finished the movies. He always claimed the time would come when he would revisit them. And what do you know, COVID causing theaters to all but shut down while re-releasing older movies into IMAX may have FINALLY given him the push he needed. Keep in mind, this is a spoiler filled discussion of The Fellowship of the Ring. We are however, avoiding spoilers of the other two films for now! -Wow these movies haven't aged a day. The 4k IMAX release looks better than ever. -Somehow, Viggo Mortenson is 60 years old now. -We talk friendship, fellowship, long journeys, living (and dying) in the Shire, and so much more. We're back with another movie club episode! This week is Matt's pick, and he chose High Life (and had no idea what he was getting us into with it.) High Life is directed by Claire Denis and stars Robert Pattinson as Monte, a convicted murderer on death row being sent with fellow criminals to a black hole off in space. *This episode contains full spoilers for High Life This movie was certainly not what any of us were expecting, and that almost makes it all the more exciting to talk about. Welcome to our third movie review! This week, we're on Bailey's scifi movie pick 'Twelve Monkeys', which ends up being a weird time travel movie that has less to do with actual monkeys, and more to do with a grim pandemic riddled future that (hopefully) isn't a sign of things to come in our own post-covid world. As always, this episode contains FULL SPOILERS for the movie so please watch the film first! In this episode, we discuss: -Omar's meh attitude towards Brad Pitt (But his love for his butt.) -The crazy sense of madness that this movie slowly descends you into -Our theories on the ending, who really started the spread of the virus in the movie, and how it defies standard tropes for a movie of its' time. -Bailey continues to hate child actors.
