[School of Movies 2025] All the way back in 2013 when Man of Steel was coming out, I covered the four Christopher Reeve Superman movies on a single podcast with dutiful guests Taylor Nova and Paul Gibson. I recently re-listened to it in the run-up to James Gunn's Superman and I was flabbergasted at how much my attitude had changed; specifically to the first two films directed by Richard Donner and steered with confidence and the contributions of an amazing creative team. I was dismissive, persnickety and downright rude. So, here now is a much-needed revisit, twelve years wiser, and following the life and death (forced-resurrection and death again) of the Snyderverse. Now, in the 2020s the purity and heart and soul on display here are desperately needed. And after watching the exceptional Documentary "Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story" (2024) which is essential viewing and gets a trailer at the end of this show, I realised that going back to his Kal-El was in order. Joining us this time are two comic nerds we have sorely missed while they went off to become parents. Absolute Superman #1 (2025)We have reached the end of DC Absolute Universe Month as we talk about ABSOLUTE SUPERMAN!Absolute Superman dives mightily into the Kryptonian class structure and what it would be like to have brunch on Krypton. Kal's parents are working-class citizens with interesting backstories, fixing space farming equipment and rightfully pointing out hazardous mining conditions. And somehow, in this first book we don't see Krypton explode, only leak toxic gas that turns middle managers into Jonah Hex.Superman (Kal) is presently on Earth in Brazil, throwing diamond mining operations into disarray and fighting a horde of John Cenas. Also, his suit is ALIVE and it looks awesome and then Lois Lane arrests him. Also, Jen and Shawn discuss the latest WORLD'S FINEST book and how kids today are discovering older comics.

It's Friday, June 13th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Christians in former Soviet Central Asian nations increasingly face persecution Formerly part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, the five “stan” countries — Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan — have a mix of ex-Soviet authoritarianism and Islamic nationalism that can be troublesome and even dangerous to Christians, reports International Christian Concern. The region has seen increasing repression of religious minorities during the last few years. Three of these five countries — Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan — have seen a sharp rise in the persecution rankings. Even the comparatively less repressive nation of Kyrgyzstan has just this year returned to the Open Doors Top 50 list for the first time in more than a decade. Kyrgyzstan has used special operations police to raid state-registered Protestant and Catholic churches and threatened to banish the entire Catholic Church from the country. In rural Kazakhstan, authorities often pressure Christian business owners to pay bribes. Meanwhile, in neighboring Turkmenistan, a network of secret police and Muslim imams are primed and ready to flush out anyone partaking in so-called aberrant religious activity. In John 15:8, Jesus said, "If the world hates you, know that it hated Me before it hated you" Air India plane crash kills 241 aboard with one survivor An Air India passenger plane carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed in the western Indian city of Ahmedabad at 1:38pm local time, soon after departing for London, reports CBS News. Ramesh Viswashkumar, the sole survivor of the Air India crash, escaped by jumping from the plane, reports India Today. He was in seat 11A. Campbell Wilson, Air India's CEO, expressed his condolences. WILSON: “First and most importantly, I would like to express our deep sorrow about this event.” Officials feared numerous casualties on the ground, as the aircraft had crashed into buildings, including the BJ Medical College undergraduate hostel mess, according to a social post on X. Christian leaders have also offered condolences and are vowing to help the families of the dead passengers, reports The Christian Post. Marines prepare for Los Angeles deployment as protests spread across U.S. California will face off with the White House in court today over President Donald Trump's deployment of U.S. troops in Los Angeles after demonstrators again took to the streets in major cities to protest Trump's crackdown on illegal aliens, reports Reuters. According to the Pentagon, 700 U.S. Marines will be on the streets of Los Angeles by Friday to support up to 4,000 National Guard troops in protecting federal property and federal agents, especially as they round up illegal aliens. Trump's decision to dispatch troops to Los Angeles, over the objections of California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, has sparked a national debate about the use of the military on U.S. soil. Carmen Colado, a former U.S. Army intelligence analyst, spoke out publicly in uniform, condemning her own Commander-in-Chief, reports The Independent. COLADO: “We are not pawns for Donald Trump's agenda. Why now? It's because the military was called upon against the protesters. In our oath to serve, we serve the people of the United States, the Constitution. These constitutional rights are being stripped and just denied. The military will not be pawns to that. “So, I'm calling upon the conscience of military members who served previously and now. We have a duty and moral obligation to say no and resist evil.” In response, patriots have called for Carmen Colado to be dishonorably discharged or court-martialed for publicly criticizing the commander-in-chief's orders. Some argued that her actions constituted a violation of the U.S. military's Uniform Code of Military Justice and called for Article 15 to be invoked against her, which empowers a commanding officer to order nonjudicial punishments less severe than a court-martial. On Instagram, Colado describes herself as the “proud daughter of an illegal immigrant.” House cuts $9.4 billion in funding for NPR, PBS and foreign aid On Thursday, the House of Representatives narrowly voted to cut $9.4 billion in spending already approved by Congress as President Donald Trump's administration looks to follow through on work done by the Department of Government Efficiency when it was overseen by Elon Musk, reports The Associated Press. The package targets foreign aid programs and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides money for National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Service. The vote was 214-212. This bill was passed at the request of President Trump, who has criticized PBS and NPR for alleged bias. Michelle Obama: Creating life is the least of what reproductive system does On the latest episode of the podcast “In My Opinion with Michelle Obama & Craig Robinson,” the former first lady said creating life is “the least” of what a woman's reproductive system does, reports the New York Post. Listen. MICHELLE OBAMA: “A lot of male lawmakers, a lot of male politicians, a lot of male religious leaders think about the issue of choice as if it's just about the fetus, the baby. But women's reproductive health is about our life. It's about this whole complicated reproductive system -- the least of what it does is produce life.” Sadly, the former first lady despises the truth of Psalm 127:3 which declares, "Children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward.” Marcus Rogers, a Christian YouTuber, was horrified. ROGERS: “It's called the reproductive system for a reason. I really believe it's just a very demonic, antichrist spirit that these people are just so obsessed with killing babies. There's so many ways that you can prevent getting pregnant by someone you don't want to be pregnant by. There's so many things that you can do to take accountability. But the reality is these people don't want accountability. “They want to sacrifice their babies on the altar of self. They don't want a baby to inconvenience them. But they don't want to live a godly life where you would avoid all of that being a problem if you just got with the person that God has for you in the first place, instead of sleeping around.” Worldview listeners in South Carolina, Texas and Illinois share their hearts I invited Worldview listeners to share what they enjoy about the newscast in 2-6 sentences. You can share your thoughts -- along with your full name, city and state -- and send it to adam@theworldview.com Helen Mordente in Blythewood, South Carolina wrote, “Because we have a small farm and my days are full, I don't listen to the newscast. I scan the transcript to get the highlights which is all I have time to do. I trust you as a reliable source of info.” Grace Cox in Duncanville, Texas wrote, “I just started listening this week. I like the stories of the persecuted church. It informs me on how to pray and I think it is important news for Christians to hear. “ And Rene Hernandez in Chicago, Illinois, wrote, “My wife, Adriana, and I, along with our four sons -- Naithan, Neo, Kal-El, and Othniel -- have enjoyed listening to The Worldview in 5 Minutes because you give us the news from a biblical perspective. When we hear about missionaries and those being persecuted in another country, it gives us an opportunity to pray. It is great to hear the connection with God's Word and the news.” 10 Worldview listeners gave $7,506 to fund our annual budget And finally, toward our midpoint goal of $61,750 to fund half of The Worldview newscast's annual budget by tonight at 12 midnight, 9 listeners stepped up to the plate. Our thanks to Stephanie in Murrieta, California and George in Leesburg, Virginia – both of whom gave $100. We're grateful to God for Peter in Seaside, California and Kevin and Paula in Durham, Kansas – both of whom gave $300 as well as Nathan in Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom who gave $506. And we were touched by the generosity of David and Tylaine in San Antonio who pledged $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600, Victoria in Paradise, Pennsylvania who also pledged $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600, Sydney in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada who gave $1,000, Roger in Crossville, Tennessee who gave $2,000, and Scooter in Naples, Florida who will match those last two donations with an additional $2,000 gift. Those 10 Worldview listeners gave a total of $7,506 Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please. (Drum roll sound effect) $32,071.20 (People clapping sound effect) That means we still need to raise $29,678.80 by midnight tonight, Friday, June 13th to hit the half-way mark, to stay on the air, and fund our 6-member Worldview newscast team for another fiscal year. Remember, if you are one of 6 final people who give a one-time gift of $1,000, Scooter in Naples, Florida will match you with a corresponding $1,000 gift. Now, if that happens today, we will have raised $12,000. In order to raise the remaining amount, I need to find 15 Worldview listeners who will pledge $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600. And another 30 listeners to pledge $25/month for 12 months for a gift of $300. Has God placed it on your heart to be one of the Christian patriots to fund this unparalleled newscast which links Scriptures to stories, calls sin sin, and informs you about the persecuted church worldwide? Please, we need your help right now! Go to TheWorldview.com and click on Give on the top right. Click on the button that indicates a recurring donation if that's your wish. Let's see what the Lord will do! Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, June 13th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. Or get the Generations app through Google Play or The App Store. The Adventures of Superman radio serial, which aired from 1940 to 1951, featured the DC Comics character Superman.Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938. The following year, the newspaper comic strip began and four audition radio programs were prepared to sell Superman as a radio series. Superman was first heard on the radio less than two years after the comic book appearance, with Bud Collyer in the title role. The juvenile adventure radio serial, sponsored by Kellogg's Pep, was a huge success during World War II and the post-war years, with many listeners following the quest for "truth and justice" in the daily radio broadcasts, the comic book stories and the newspaper comic strip. Airing in the late afternoon, the radio serial engaged its young after-school audience with its exciting and distinctive opening, which changed slightly as the series progressed. In the first few episodes, Superman's home planet of Krypton is located on the far side of the sun, as opposed to a distant star system as it is in most stories. During the journey to Earth, baby Kal-El grows into an adult and emerges fully grown from his ship after it lands on Earth. He is never adopted by Jonathan and Martha Kent and immediately begins his superhero career. This was eventually retconned in later episodes to match the narrative of the comic books. The syndicated series, titled simply Superman, first aired via pre-recorded transcription disks over 11 stations beginning on February 12, 1940, with an origin story, "The Baby from Krypton". The series aired in 15-minute episodes three times a week until May 9, 1941, with the conclusion of the "Nitrate Shipment" storyline. By that time, it had expanded to 63 stations.

Show notes provided by Joe PelusoOnce upon a time you had to go to the movies to see the trailers forupcoming films. Now all you gotta do is grab your favorite hand-helddevice and ask Google or Siri to call it up for you. And of course, there are those numerous reaction videos (Some longer than the filmsthey're reacting to.) With all that said, if you really want the scoopon Marvel/Disney's new Daredevil offering or James Gunn's new Superman film, all you have to do is join James and Joe (Your Mint Men ofMessaging) to deliver the low-down on what's hurtling your way fromthe vast genre-verse. In this current "back of the store chat", the boys run the gamutfrom" Supes" to "nuts" (Diamond Comic Distributors) as they review, report, and reconcile some the important issues of the day that aremaking the rounds in the pop culture universe. Will Spider-Man pop up in Daredevil Born Again? Will James Gunnstraighten out Kal-El's stigmatism in post-production? How will thefall of Diamond Comic Distributors affect your local LCS? Have youheard of Dogman, and why is it eating Marvel and DC's lunch? And hasJoe traded in his maniacal obsession for the inept Nets of the NBA fora lunatic lashing of the NFL? He might be off his meds again. You can't swing an Omnibus (and if you can, more power to you)without hitting a plethora of topics covered in this episode. As we'vestated once or twice before, bring a score when you come through theback door for this segment. If for no other reason, you might want toshow it to an NFL ref or umpire that you're watching them. Let it goJoe. MLB Spring Training has started!

Lights Out: A Pioneering Horror Radio Show The radio show "Lights Out" captivated audiences with its chilling horror and suspense stories from 1934 to 1947, albeit with some interruptions. The initial run from 1934 to 1936 was followed by a hiatus, but the show's revival in 1942 reignited its popularity, solidifying its status as a prominent program in the genre. Groundbreaking Sound Design and Disturbing Narratives The show's creator, Wyllis Cooper, was already renowned for his contributions to other successful horror and suspense radio shows like "Quiet, Please!" and "The Witch's Tale." In 1943, the reins were passed to Arch Oboler, a prolific figure in radio production, who further elevated the show's reputation. "Lights Out" distinguished itself through its innovative use of sound effects and its exploration of unsettling themes. The show's mastery of sound design created an atmosphere of palpable suspense and terror, leaving a lasting impression on listeners. The narratives frequently delved into the darker facets of humanity, featuring tales of murder, madness, and the supernatural. Enduring Legacy Even today, "Lights Out" holds a special place in the hearts of old-time radio enthusiasts and horror aficionados. Its groundbreaking use of sound and its ability to deliver thought-provoking and often disturbing storylines continue to resonate with audiences. Memorable episodes like "Chicken Heart," featuring a woman trapped with a mysterious killer, and "Cat Wife," exploring a man's unsettling marriage to a feline entity, exemplify the show's enduring appeal. These episodes, among many others, showcase the chilling and suspenseful narratives that made "Lights Out" a landmark in radio history. Send us a textNow that Jame's Gunn's new Big Blue Boy Scout trailer has hit the interwebs, Saint and Jim thought it might be time to dig a little into The Supe You Think Of When You Think Of Supes — mostly 'cuz it's right there in his name. Not a bird, not a plane, but Kal-El himself. He's been depicted on-screen countless times, dating all the way back to '50s serials right up to yesterday. But who's YOUR Clark? Are you a Cavill person? Soft spot in your heart for Reeve? Or are you holding out "it means hope" for Corenswet? No matter whose "S" is your favorite, go ahead and lend the guys your earholes as they take a look at all the Supermen who have soared across your screens, then let 'em know who YOUR fave Son of Krypton is.
“Silly old sod* (*General Zod)” The panel of peril emerge from their fortress of solitude (the toilet), wherein they have lost quite a lot of their own power (…). With their last ounce of strength, they pop themselves onto a comfy chair to watch this week's film Superman II (Richard Lester, 1980). Superman/Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) has settled into life in Metropolis in fine style maintaining his dual identity of clumsy reporter and messiah figure with aplomb. But when he chucks a bomb into space and releases his father's arch enemies, led by General Zod (Terence Stamp), his life is about to become an absolute disaster area! Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxD8RlGnP64 ********PLOT SPOILER ALERT******** As (bad) luck would have it, Kal-El has forsaken his powers in a grand gesture of love towards the ever-spunk ace reporter Lois Lane (Margot Kidder). Needless to say, that makes planet Earth easy pickings for Zod and the gang, who are joined by snitch extraordinaire Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) as he guides Kryptonian crims towards revenge for their imprisonment! Is the Earth doomed, or can the Man of Steel return to save the day? What did the heck panel think of this week's movie? How in all that is holy can they improve upon the villain's masterplan? And which evil schemer will be christened this week's most diabolical? https://bsky.app/profile/diabolicalpod.bsky.social https://twitter.com/diabolicalpod https://www.instagram.com/diabolicalpod/ https://www.facebook.com/diabolicalpod Email diabolicalpod@gmail.com

Host Anthony Desiato and guest Bernie Gerstmayr (Aw Yeah Comics) dig into what is generally regarded as one of the very best — if not THE best — superhero films of all time: 1978's SUPERMAN from director Richard Donner, which prioritized verisimilitude in its earnest, reverent approach and introduced audiences to Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel. Anthony and Bernie discuss the four major acts of the film as they follow Kal-El from Krypton to Smallville, then Metropolis, and ultimately the deserts of California for the film's iconic (though debated) finale.Support the show and receive exclusive podcast content at Patreon.com/AnthonyDesiato, including the spinoff podcasts BEYOND METROPOLIS and DIGGING FOR JUSTICE!Visit BCW Supplies and use promo code FSP to save 10% on your next order of comics supplies. Jace and Rocky take a deep dive into Absolute Superman #1 with a page by page breakdown. The creative team does an incredible job with a Superman who is incredibly true to the core of the characters but everything else feels very fresh. The isolated feel of Kal-El is so different from what we are used to, but makes so much sense with the version of Krypton we see in the first issue. When you couple that with incredible line and color work, you end up with an amazing start to this story. Whether it's the caste society of Krypton or the echoes of that we see in the small mining encampments of Brazil this version of Kal-El is pulling from the earliest days of Superman fighting for those too weak to fight for themselves. An amazing first installment and worthy of the hero that started it all.

EPISODE 2 - A World Without - “Powers beat Psycho Everytime”Greetings Super friends! Welcome to Superman & Lois & Pals. I'm Henry Bernstein and alongside me is my favorite super pal, Professor Sam Brody. Let's talk about Superman & Lois Season 4, Episode 2 - A World WithoutDirected by:Sudz SutherlandWritten By:Katie Aldrin and Kristi KorzekThe Apple TV and Imdb description is: Lana and Sarah join the fight against Luthor, who starts making moves in Smallville; Jordan and Jonathan butt heads over an important decision.Very sweet of Lana to get everyone away but “Superman is Lois' friend, her GOOD friend” was just sooooo cheesy. That must've been painful for Lana as she knew and loved Clark first, I wish it had been a better moment. First time around I missed that Lara put Clark in a sort of suspended animation. In previous iterations of the Death including the comics he wasn't really dead. He just needed time to regenerate. In this case he doesn't have a HEART. So he's legit dead right? “An alter state of existence.” At first I thought it was the phantom zone but it's how Kal-El made it to earth in his pod.Lana going after Luthor makes sense. She is the mayor Smallville, he's in her town now. Also if you remember in the early Byrne era, Lana took a literal beating from Luthor's goons in Superman #2, as mentioned previously. She had a rough go of it in the comics until she married Pete Ross.An Ocean's 11 type one last score does not seem to fit with the prize being Superman's FUCKING HEART. I dunno, it's so gruesome. Obviously Lex figured out that Jordan has powers. Even though he didn't figure out Clark was Superman, something about Jordan's disguise seemed so obvious. The idea that he never figured out Clark's secret because of his hubris/arrogance makes sense to me. I'm sorry but this plan to go on a two-front heart stealing with Sarah distracing is just silly. I get that the first episode had heavy emotion so they needed an action plot but it was sillyJordan standing up against the Kryptonite was cool but I wish there was some nuance where because he's half-human Kryptonite doesn't affect him as much and that he could fight against itCan't believe Luthor squashed Superman's heart. Like how are they going to get out of this one? I love that we don't know. Jor-El Clark. I like it. Does this mean Clark's the fortress guy for the next couple episodes? With only 10 episodes are they really going to not have Superman in the show for more than like one more? At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the family was at the forefront of DC creators' minds. We couldn't escape the topic when discussing superheroics. Plus, we've been pretty anxious on the podcast, contemplating the ramifications of city saviors placing their loved ones above the citizens of Gotham City and Metropolis. Does the person on the street want Superman to have a son? A wife? A cousin? Thankfully, we can corner Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki at the DC booth and force them to process our ridiculous worries. In October, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee return to the early days of Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson in Batman and Robin: Year One. The twelve-issue maxi-series promises to delve into their unique relationship, revealing how Bruce Wayne learned to parent while keeping Joker behind bars. During the same month, Waid and Mariko Tamaki will share Action Comics as the Superman ongoing goes weekly. Waid, alongside artist Clayton Henry, will focus on Kal-El's problems post-Absolute Power while Mariko Tamaki and artist Skler Partridge continue their deep dive into Supergirl's inner life. For the first half of today's episode, we speak with Mark Waid two-on-one, digging into Bruce and Dick's getting-to-know-you phase. We discuss Bruce's lack of familial role models, his inability or unwillingness to see Alfred as a father, and how he wanted Absolute Power to speak to the moment. In the back half, we have both Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki on our microphone. We then focus on the Superman family, paying particular attention to Supergirl and the secrets Tamaki is unveiling to her readers. The first issue of Batman and Robin: Year One lands in comic shops on October October 16th. Mark Waid and Mariko Tamaki join Action Comics on issue 1070, which arrives on October 9th. Absolute Superman #1 - November 6th, Writer - Jason Aaron, Artist - Rafa Sandoval, Color Artist - Ulises Arreola Absolute Superman debuts in comic shops on November 6th, but writer Jason Aaron gives us some hints of what to expect live from SDCC 2024. Aaron discusses keeping the core of the character the same while creating a different backstory for a Superman who is very isolated. We also get some hints of how Kal-El may be honoring or perhaps mourning the loss of his home world. How he arrives on Earth and his upbringing remain a mystery, but it is clear that Aaron is very excited about what's to come. This is a common theme among the creators at DC involved in the Alll In initiative, many of them expressed the temptation to say too much in their eagerness to share the stories they have crafted with DC fans.
