What happens when the world's most famous archaeologist goes head-to-head with the world's most famous secret agent? This week, Jay and Shua celebrate two 1981 adventure classics and defend why their favorite deserves the crown. From ancient artifacts to espionage, Raiders of the Lost Ark and For Your Eyes Only prove that adventure comes in many forms. Join us as we revisit these beloved films, share some retro news, and enjoy a few modern adventures along the way.   News • A replica of KITT from Knight Rider at Illinois' Volo Museum keeps receiving traffic tickets thanks to a license plate mix-up connected to violations in New York City.   • Pizza Hut is embracing nostalgia by bringing back classic restaurant elements like red cups, checkered tablecloths, arcade games, and even the iconic red-roof design at select locations.   • Marcia Lucas, the Oscar-winning editor known for her work on the original Star Wars trilogy and many classic films, has passed away at age 80. Check out our TeePublic store for some enjoyable swag and all the latest fashion trends What we're Enjoying Shua is enjoying The Boroughs, a new Netflix series starring Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, Clarke Peters, and Carlos Miranda. Jay has been enjoying Fountain of Youth, directed by Guy Ritchie and starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. This globe-trotting adventure follows two siblings searching for the legendary Fountain of Youth and serves as a fun homage to classic adventure films like Indiana Jones.   MCU Location Scout MCULocationScout.com is Jay's ongoing project documenting and exploring real-world filming locations used throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe and related Marvel television productions. We examine what makes each hero unique and why both characters have remained cultural icons for decades.   The discussion covers everything from memorable villains and supporting characters to action sequences, music, exotic locations, and the lasting influence of both films. Along the way, Jay and Shua make the case for their chosen champion while also giving credit to what the opposing film does exceptionally well, resulting in a fun and spirited celebration of adventure cinema.   Did you see both of these 1981 movies? Subscribe to our YouTube channel On our political radar this week… Donald Trump says he's getting bored with his war, doesn't care about the mid-terms … but is laser focused on what matters: his reflecting pond renovation, diverting money from national parks for his D.C. cleanup, the Arc ‘d Trump, taking over DC golf courses, the UFC version of the ancient gladiator battles to the death, and reminding us daily that he's passed a dementia screening test four times. His latest middle finger to the nation: suggesting that the Las Vegas-style Fight Club arena on what used to be the White House lawn become a permanent part of the landscape. Vegas has the Dome and Elvis Wedding chapel; the home of Presidents, if Trump has his way, will have its own dome and a massive wedding reception hall. And it's being reported that Trump is looting money from National Parks maintenance to pay for his July 4 fireworks show, the Reflecting Pool, a White House helipad and DC cleanup projects. He'll burn up 1.6-million dollars blowing up stuff on the 4th … even as he burns up billions every week blowing up stuff in Iran. In an administration populated by the absolutely worst cabinet in American history, Trump manages to lower the bar even further with the appointment of Michigander housing developer and certified Trump suck-up Bill Pulte as acting Director of National Intelligence, a job for which he has absolutely no qualifications. Actors Matt Damon and John Krasinski … a.k.a. Jason Bourne and Jack Ryan … would be more qualified. Adding the the Bad Cabinet Blues: the new director of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullins, says as far as he's concerned following court orders is optional. Michigan Democrats are optimistic after making the case to the national party that Michigan should be in the first tier of 2028 presidential primaries. The state party has also rejected appeals related to vote counting in the April endorsement convention. Will the dispute extend to the official nominating convention in August? The state House has turned down a Republican-drafted constitutional amendment which would make all university boards and the State Board of Education gubernatorial appointed bodies instead of elected. Speaker Matt Hall didn't bother to talk with Democrats before putting the measure up for a vote. With a two-thirds vote needed to pass, it didn't come close to adoption, but could be revived for the November election. We are just 50 days away from the start of early voting in Michigan. The four races to watch: the 3-way Republican contest for the opportunity to battle Jocelyn Benson for Governor; the 3-way Democratic contest to battle Mike Rogers for the U.S. Senate; and multi-candidate Democratic primaries for Congressional seats based in Lansing and Macomb County. Speculation has begun over who may be in the running for President of Michigan State University in the wake of last week's departure of Kevin Guskiewicz. Will it be a relatively unknown academic, or a high-powered retired politician? There's precedent for both routes…although the highest profile possibility, Gretchen Whitmer, has already announced she is not interested in the gig. Republicans in Congress are starting to push back on Trump outrages – the House passing a measure to stop Trump's Middle East war, Senators stripping the one-billion-dollar subsidy for his ballroom from the DHS budget, and both chambers primed to outlaw efforts to revive the $1.8-billion slush fund for rewarding January 6 rioters and other Trump fans. It's interesting that congressional Republicans only started to show signs of life after candidate filing deadlines. Michigan Congressman Tom Barrett, who no longer faces the possibility of a primary challenge, was one of four Republicans voting this week to end the Iran War.  The political threat to non-compliant Republicans for pushing back against Great Leader comes as doubts about Trump's mental and physical health grow. His third physical examination since taking office coupled with an incomplete post-exam report on what the doctors learned, his reduced work schedule, the cankles and bruising – have increased the speculation. It sure looks like both his political and mental powers are in decline. This week's best political giggle: an AI doctored photo of Senate candidate Mike Rogers, turning his relatively fit 63-year-old body into a modern-day Charles Atlas. What the heck – it's easier than hours in the gym, or even going on Ozempic. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Introducing our new podcast! Matt and Jordan review Prime Video’s Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Ghost War, a straight-to-streaming title they are branding "movie Toferky." For Rec Seg, the duo finds comfort in the Paramount Plus vaults, with Jordan revisiting the Tom Clancy masterpiece that started it all, and Matt countering with a series sequel featuring Harrison Ford's bookworm Boy Scout desk-jockey. Then, a personalized recommendation request from listener Patrick sparks a highly volatile intra-pod war. While Jordan goes with a ‘70s screwball classic, Matt goes full "Muppet Radical" with his recommendation for a late-period Muppet movie over the Jim Henson-produced originals. Finally, Producer Sam hosts a trivia game called The Sum of All Jack Ryans, which ignites a flurry of deep pulls, culminating with a classic Jordan anecdote featuring Star Trek's Gates McFadden desperately trying to escape a cruise ship at the outbreak of the pandemic. John Krasinski is back as everyone's favorite CIA analyst, but Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Ghost War completely misses the mark. We are breaking down why this highly anticipated Prime Video movie feels less like a cinematic blockbuster and more like a basic, predictable CBS movie of the week. While the chemistry between the returning cast is totally fine, the plot relies on tired spy tropes and a generic rogue black ops unit that we have already seen a thousand times before. If you were hoping for the high octane energy, sleek visuals, and elite pacing of Citadel, you are going to be severely disappointed by how average this film turned out to be. Check out our honest review to see if it is even worth adding to your streaming watchlist!

In the meantime, don't miss Evio Creative's newest hit, The Culture of Criminal Cool, following the rise and fall of drug kingpin Adam Diaz.

"James Bond" is the longest-running and most successful spy film series, with 25 movies released by Eon Productions since 1962. "Mission: Impossible" doesn't have quite as many films with eight to date, but you also have the long-running 1960s television show. The latest challenger to the genre hasn't been around quite as long, but the series of "Jack Ryan" films, taken from or inspired by Tom Clancy's novels, has been going strong since Alec Baldwin starred in 1990's "The Hunt for Red October." After four more movies starring Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine in the role of Jack Ryan, John Krasinski reprised the role for the streaming series on Amazon Prime Video. Now, Krasinski is bringing his Jack Ryan to theaters with "Jack Ryan: Ghost War." In this episode, co-host Bruce Miller speaks with director Andrew Bernstein, co-star Michael Kelly and stars, writer and producer Krasinski, as well as co-star Sienna Miller. Miller and co-host Terry Lipshetz also talk about the history of the series and spy movies in general. About the show Streamed & Screened is a podcast about movies and TV hosted by Bruce Miller, a longtime entertainment reporter who is the retired editor of the Sioux City Journal in Iowa and Terry Lipshetz, a senior producer for Lee Enterprises based in Madison, Wisconsin. Jack Ryan is returning to our screens. After four successful seasons, the modern adaptation of Tom Clancy's political action thriller novels is heading to the big screen for ‘Jack Ryan: Ghost War'. American actor Michael Kelly is among the cast, reprising his role as Mike November for the high-stakes, action-packed story. The film heavily utilised practical effects and on-location filming – even closing down the centre of London to film an intense car chase sequence. “This whole thing, from the series to the movie, it's all been a pinch me moment,” Kelly told Mike Hosking. “But certainly when you're standing on that ground that's hundreds and hundreds of years old, and knowing the feet that have walked across it and just all of it, all of the history that's there and knowing that you get to shut it down and go play make-believe for a couple of days.” “It's a pinch me without a doubt.” Tom Clancy published his first Jack Ryan novel in 1984, and as proof of the series longevity, it's continued long after his death in 2013, with 30 new novels and a host of adaptations being released. “Tom Clancy created this world that exists in this, y'know, there's always geopolitical madness, right?” Kelly told Hosking. “Tom Clancy was writing around the Cold War times, but you can take that world and put it in any timeline, I think ... Jack Ryan is so well established that I think it could go on for, y'know, not with us, but it could go on forever and ever.” There's a three-year gap between the conclusion of the TV show and the release of the film, and for Kelly, returning to the Ryanverse was a thrill. “When I found out we got, we we're getting to come back and make a movie, I was, y'know, John [Krasinski] was like, hey man you wanna make a movie? I was like, yeah, I wanna make a movie. Let's go.” “I was truly over the moon, thrilled at the thought of coming back and especially playing this character that I just, I love him so much, man, he's so much fun to play.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

They also go deep laying out how this week's attack on birth control, abortion, military rights, and voting rights are the latest ingredients in the larger toxic stew of oppression being cooked up by our enemies for 2027. COOL.   GUEST ROLL CALL: WE HAVE 2026 OSCAR NOMINEES IN THE HOUSE! This week Sam takes on another adventure quest with the 2025 movie Fountain of Youth. Join Luke (John Krasinski) as he gallivants around town stealing art with zero repercussions. After his latest art theft, he goes to London to ruin his sister Charlotte's (Natalie Portman) life by stealing from the museum she curates and getting her fired. You'd think John Krasinski could pull off making that charming, but you'd be wrong. None of that matters because now that she's been fired, Charlotte can join in on his latest scheme! What scheme is that? Why, it's leading a billionaire-backed expedition to locate the the Fountain of Youth (which neither fountains nor youths, but that's for another time) to cure the benefactor's liver cancer. Why you ask? Fame and glory. Definitely not to follow in their father's Indiana Jones footsteps regardless of what the movie tells you. This, of course, requires stealing a bunch of Renaissance art because six artists hid clues in their paintings for some unfathomable reason, though not really in their paintings, more just kinda on them. This leads our heroes to some of the lamest puzzle solving this side of The DaVinci Code which Sam complains about. A lot. This has made them a target for Interpol and Charlotte has dragged her eleven-year-old son on the lamb with her in a bid to become the world's worst mother. There's also some psychic protector of the Fountain hot on their trail, though she proves remarkably inept. None of this can prepare our hosts for the end of this movie which is so incomprehensible it completely breaks their brains. This is in no way aided by a brief exposition cameo by Stanley Tucci, and in fact only muddies things further. So join us on a rip-roaring adventure that leaves Sam begging Danielle to watch the movie herself to see if she can figure it out. We're sure it makes sense to someone, just not us.

Editor - Michael P. Shawver Sinners editor Michael Shawver has enjoyed a long and productive relationship with his former USC classmate, director Ryan Coogler.  Together the two have collaborated on Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and now Sinners.  Their past experience on both VFX-heavy films like Black Panther, as well as socio-political dramas like Fruitvale Station, would prove invaluable as they worked to blend the real horror of racial injustice with the fantastical horror of a vampire onslaught. Taking place in 1932, Sinners follows identical twins, and World War I veterans, Elijah "Smoke" and Elias "Stack" Moore as they return to Clarksdale, Mississippi after spending seven years in Chicago. Using money stolen from criminal syndicates, they purchase a sawmill from a landowner to start a juke joint for the local Black community. Their younger cousin Sammie, a singer and guitarist, joins them despite his pastor father's warnings about the sins of blues music.  His warnings would prove prophetic, as the twins and their friends face foes both familiar and supernatural. MICHAEL P. SHAWVER Originally from Rhode Island, Sinners editor Michael Shawver developed an early working relationship with director Ryan Coogler during their time together at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. Shawver initially edited Coogler's short film, Fig, and later went on to cut his feature debut, Fruitvale Station, starring Michael B. Jordan. The film garnered two of the Sundance Film Festival's top prizes, the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize, and went on to receive numerous awards and nominations at film festivals worldwide. Shawver also edited All Summers End, a debut feature film by director Kyle Wilamowski; Warren, by director Alex Beh; Tell, for director J.M.R. Luna; and Fourth Man Out, for Andrew Nackman. Shawver's next collaboration with Coogler and Jordan was Creed, for which he received a nomination for Best Editing in the Independent Critics Poll. Michael then reunited with Coogler and Jordan on Black Panther, a box office smash, which was nominated an outstanding 43 times, including for Best Picture at the Academy Awards and Best Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes. His work on this project also earned him a Saturn Award Nomination for Best Editing and an Alliance of Women Film Journalists Nomination for the Best Editing EDA Award. In addition, the film won Movie of the Year at the AFI Awards. Following Black Panther, Shawver edited A Quiet Place: Part II, directed by John Krasinski. He later returned to the Marvel universe for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, again collaborating with Coogler and Jordan. Shawver's recent work includes Abigail, a genre-bending thriller directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. He is currently editing The Thomas Crown Affair directed by and starring Michael B. Jordan.
