What is good quality listeners?! We are back after a short break from putting out new content. It wasn't to punish you all, but merely to chill the fuck out for a minute, focus on life, and spend a tiny bit less time in front of a screen for a couple months. But we missed you, and just couldn't keep away for too long, so we thought it only right to say what up and spread some year end holiday cheer. What better subject to cover then breaks? No we're not talking about break beats or broken bones…but rather the fact that it is ok to take a break once in a while. Entrepreneurship is a common thread in our content, and we have been so conditioned to be on grind mode 24/7, grow a following with constant posting and engagement, trying to build that highlight real for clout, we often forget to take a moment to stop and breathe! While there are appropriate times to flex on grind mode, there is much more to life then work work work. We also touched on the anti-work movement going on, some of the wild ass crime that has arisen around us due to the involuntary extended break that many are experiencing, and then we wrapped up the convo with a discussion about gratitude and some things that we are thankful for. so check out this conversation about breaks and thanks. Attention might just be the most valuable commodity in the world, and companies of all sizes, from local mom and pops to corporate conglomerates are all in constant competition for it. Awareness goes hand in hand with attention, and is the first step into bringing more of it to any cause. There are many dimensions of awareness though, from simple concepts like spatial awareness, to grander ideas like environmental awareness and everything in between and outside. On this episode of the Quality Goods podcast Anson and Chris had another universal topic to discuss amongst themselves, appearance and impressions. While you can make impressions with more than just your appearance, your appearance almost always leaves some sort of impression, no matter how impactful it may be. As people, we consciously and subconsciously think about how we project ourselves with our appearance, and the impressions that we make on people. Obviously this varies from person to person, but these are things that we all consider consciously at some point.. so much so that sometimes we ever reflect on times where we have made a poor impression, cringing and wishing we had the opportunity for a re-do. But fear not, we all of plenty of more opportunities to make good impressions, so there is no sense in dwelling on opportunities missed in the past. We’ve all been there, but the best thing we can do is make a conscious effort to make good impressions moving forward. Her directorial debut Aubergine is hitting the festival circuit this year, and we were thrilled to discuss everything that led her to this exciting moment in her film career. She talked about going all in on pursuing her dream, and having to dial it back a little bit when her livelihood was at stake. You don’t always have to go for broke in the pursuit of ambitious goals, and it is ok to take a step back to reformulate your plan of attack sometimes. It’s something that myself, Katie, and probably many of you have in common, and it is nothing to be ashamed of. If you never lose sight of the target that you’re aiming for, perhaps taking a few steps to the side will offer a new perspective and give you a cleaner shot at the bullseye. Katie’s story is one of perseverance, determination, and passion for creativity and creatives alike, and it is one that we think will resonate with all of you. Throughout our COVID Business series, we’ve connected with former guests of ours to discuss how the COVID 19 pandemic has affected their businesses and livelihoods. Mascot Sports was an athletic events business, and the events industry is one of the hardest hit verticals of 2020. Events well into next year have been cancelled and postponed, and no events, means a certain demise for many events based businesses, and the boutique sporting events company could not sustain. Though Tim was sad to let go of such an exciting role, he was not discouraged. After a tiny bit of soul searching he hit the job market, and in quite a bold way! His approach on LinkedIn is a great example of how we can leverage some incredible tools, and with a bit of creativity and vulnerability, it paid off in the best possible way.
