That is imperative to the way forward for our country. I believe that organizations like United Way of Connecticut and the United Way Network can play an important role in leading the way and helping our neighbors, our supporters, and our clients.”

Denise Gaffney and Jamie Sands, two leading Partners in our Healthcare and Academic Medicine Practice, sit down with Dr. Rob Winn, Massey Cancer Center Director at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, to discuss what drew him to the role and his ties to the Richmond area, his advice for other leaders and organizations who are working to increase workforce diversity, and his aspirations for the Massey Cancer Center. “I hate that I am the only African American Cancer Center Director in the nation. Hopefully by any success that I have here at VCU Massey I’m hoping that translates into other opportunities for women and other underserved minorities to actually have senior leadership positions of importance.”

Phillip Petree, IM’s Human Services Practice area lead, is joined by Kevin Fee, Founder and CEO of Angler West Consultants, to discuss the major changes that have occurred in the human services sector over the past decade, the biggest challenges facing human service organizations in coming years, and the increase of mergers and acquisitions occurring within the sector and their implications for these organizations.

Two of IM’s Academic Medicine and Healthcare Practice Area associates, Julia Omotade, PhD, and Nicholas Strand, PhD, sit down with Dr. Lou Muglia, president of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF), to discuss the importance of representation and the inclusion of diverse voices within the scientific community, where biomedical research has been and where it’s going, and the role of society and outside pressures on scientific advancements.

Rebecca Kennedy, a partner specializing in the recruitment of functional leadership for higher education and nonprofit organizations, sits down with Tanya Jachimiak, Associate Vice President of the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX Education and Compliance at Michigan State University, and Oren Griffin, senior advisor at Isaacson, Miller and specialist in the areas of employment law, civil litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and higher education. The three discuss the evolution of Title IX and Civil Rights positions in higher ed, the implications of new regulations on the future of the field, and how the calls of racial justice in our country and on college and university campuses will impact the work long-term.
