Join us as we hear about Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County's 50th year in 2025. We are joined by Ann Walsh, Development and Partnerships Manager and Rachel Purington, Case Manager to discuss the agency, new programs, and upcoming events. BBBS HC exists to help kids form meaningful connections to mentors in the community. Children's mental health is a top concern and BBBS is helping to provide some stability in the lives of the "Littles" they serve. The "Bigs" also get something out of it as well and have the chance to provide guidance and support giving them a deeper meaning to their lives. A new program was just launched at Jackson Street School in Northampton called "Lunch Buddies", tune in for more on that. As well, Big Love Little Performances is back on 2/13 and at the Iron Horse this year. Owen Zaret, Easthampton City Councilor, and Health Care Provider joins us to talk about why he has been a part of BLLP since the beginning. Warning-there is A LOT of singing on this episode. Little Big Chats: The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee Podcast
Mentoring relationships supported by Big Brother Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee can end up being some of the most meaningful relationships in participants' lives. So, when someone's Little Brother or Sister ages out of the program, it can be a minute before they're ready to jump back in and volunteer again. But many former Bigs still want to find other ways to stay engaged with BBBS. So in this episode of Little Big Chats, Dusty speaks with Matt, an alumni big brother and board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee. They discuss the journey of being a big brother and the importance of staying engaged with the organization even after formal mentorship ends. Matt shares his personal experiences, and together, they talk about other opportunities for former Bigs to continue to support the BBBS mission.

Miranda Maguire Program Supervisor, Ann Walsh Development and Partnerships Manager, and Bob Lowry Owner of Bueno y Sano discuss how BBBS impacts them and the greater Hampshire County community. Since 1975, BBBS HC has been impacting the lives of Littles so that they may have meaningful adult relationships in their lives but they are not the only ones to benefit. Mentoring is proven to be an important factor in the development of youth and BBBS is fulfilling that need. Bob Lowry is a 3x Big and now major supporter of BBBS. Tune in to learn how you can give of your time or talent in order to make this program even more successful than it already is.
Pierce Bush is the CEO of Big Brother Big Sisters Lone Star. They help volunteers mentor kids, guiding them to graduate from high school and form valuable connections in life. They are in need of mentors, especially men because they have far more boys on their waiting list and it's worth getting involved. Their results are impressive. The “Littles” are exponentially more likely to graduate and get a good job, breaking the cycle of poverty they grew up in. We also talk about the lasting bonds Bigs and Littles form and how so many Littles return to be mentors themselves. Go to www.bbbstx.org/greater-houston to sign up.

In order to make sure that key perspectives are represented in its decision making, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee Board of Directors appoints three "Voices of the Mission" to its membership. These leaders represent the Littles, the Bigs and the parents of Littles, and help the board understand how their policy-making impacts the BBBS mission on a granular level. So in this episode, we meet the current "Voices of the Mission:" Christiana, a former Little in the program; Chloe, a current Big; and Taheréh, a parent of a Little. They'll discuss what they hope to be able to contribute to the organization, what they've learned about mentoring, and what are some of the questions they've always wanted to ask other stakeholders within the BBBS ecosystem.

Ryan Scott is the Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Indiana. He can be described as goal-driven, servant-led, and incredibly relentless in his pursuit to fight for ALL kids! Prior to coming on board BBBS, Ryan spent 16 years in public education, where he worked tirelessly to preach the gospel of connection before content and that we had a connection, not entirely an academic gap. Ryan received his undergraduate degree from Murray State University and two master's degrees from The University of the Cumberlands. “Thousands of research studies have proven that positive, nurturing, supportive relationships are the lifeblood of a successful, happy life. Connecting children with role-models who can provide these critical elements has the ability to literally change the direction of a kids' life,” says Ryan. “In a world where hope is often lacking among our most vulnerable youth, one positive role model can provide the essential support needed to persevere through life. Life is easily the hardest thing we ever have to do, but having someone walking beside you makes it 10x easier.” In this episode, you will hear Ryan speak to the "why" behind the podcast and what you can expect to hear on future episodes! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bigedidea/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bigedidea/support

She's baaaaack... and this time, she's a REAL AUTHOR (just in case you, like Michelle Icard herself, didn't believe that until this time around). And that endearing humility and humor are reasons #4,000 and 4,001 why you'll love her so. On this episode of "Date Night with Jake and Page" Michelle joins your hosts to discuss her THIRD BOOK, "8 Setbacks That Can Make a Child a Success." They discuss the reframing of the word, "failure," which middle school archetype each person was in middle school (and how to correctly pronounce the word, "archetype"), and Michelle calls Jake out on thinking he was dating Kate Hudson (spoiler-alert: he wasn't). Check out Michelle's latest spot on the TODAY SHOW and her website michelleicard.com for more! *This episode of "Date Night with Jake and Page" was brought to you by Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Carolinas providing mentors for kids in this region since 1972!
