The South Figaro Podcast features some of the most passionate fans from the Penny Arcade community gathering together to discuss the past, present, and future of the Final Fantasy series in addition to other similarly-themed games and topics. Listen in as we share fond memories and lingering critici…
It's a month full of stuffing yoiur face with turkey and discounted products, so it's only natural that this month's podcast also be filled to bursting with all sorts of discussion. Uzuki joins me in talking SMTV, FFXIV, and a whole heaping load of nearly all things Xbox.
The big problem with putting off the next recording to wait for new things to talk about is that we become crushed under the weight of content. Uzuki joins me in deseprately trying to sift through the weeks of reveals, trailers and new games that caught our attention. Spoilers: it's a lot. Also Spoilers: this episode is mostly spoiler-free, so stick around to hear our impressions on Inscryption, Tales of Arise, Re:Kinder and a whole bunch more I've already forgotten about.
After getting the ugliness surrounding a certain storm-named studio, Quill and Uzuki join me in a mostly positive, feel good episode where we praise some of the best new releases in both videogames and animation, including The Owl House, He-Man, NEO The World Ends With You, The Great Ace Attorney, and (unsuprisingly) a whole lot of Final Fantasy-related stuff. Get comfy and listen to the good vibes!
Uzuki joins me for a (mostly) Final Fantasy-focused episode. At long last we offer our thoughts and theories about the PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake and its Yuffie DLC Episode. Between the two of us, who has the crazier, borderline fanfiction predictions for the series going forward? That's right, I said "series", because this is defintely going to go on longer than a trilogy of games.
Snuggles, Uzuki, Blue Map, Quill......and Chaos.E3 talk, Guilty Gear talk, Demo talk, Ratchet and Clank talk. Chaos talk.
I swear, Blue Map always brings out the best and worst from me. It's an otherwise chill episode this week where we recap on a few things already mentioned, like the rumored Final Fantasy Origin, the perils of PC gaming, how Invincible is great despite the meme, how Cruella might somehow be better BECAUSE of the meme, and how Overwatch's porn market has outlived the game's at this point.
Uzuki joins me today to mock me about my recent birthday and deteroriating flesh, followed by a lengthy speculation about the very-possibly-real rumor surrounding Final Fantasy Origin and what implications that game may bring for the rest of the franchise going forward. We also mourn the passing of Berserk author Kentaro Miura, the struggle for 10,000 achievements, and some positive discussions about Bioware for a change.
It's fluffy and squishy. Is it candy? Is it a meal? I want it.Quill and I get talking on Monster Hunter Rise, the return (?) of watching movies in a theater, the return (!) of PC gaming, the latest Resident Evil 8 news, and I think some anime gets tossed in as well.Listen!
A whole year stuck at home...sure has been insane, huh? I mean, not for me, it's been bliss, but I'm sure it's inconvenienced some folks out there.Good thing the videogame well hasn't dried up, though it is starting to drop a few inches. That's why we need to stick to our fan favorites, as Quill demonstrates with the latest Nintendo Direct and Pokemon news, and I do with Final Fantasy VII, aka the reason for the existence of the latest State of Play. Uzuki is a lot more well-rounded and drops a few games of his own. Ending Song: "Descendant of Shinobi" (Yuffie's Theme) Vocal Cover by Lizz Robinett
It's the second part of our Game of the Year deliberations, where we take one final look (at least I really hope so) at 2020 and see which games get the coveted crown of Game of the Year.
One of the benefits of 2020 being a monster hellscape year that felt twice as long as it actually was is that it never feels too late to reminisce about its videogame releases. Myself, Blue Map, Beeb, Shadowfire and Uzuki look back at the post apocalyptic remains and come to agree: hey, there were some darn good videogames that came out. Better therapy during these dark times than actual therapy (note: please actually do get therapy if you need it).Our first half of the 2020 discussions start off with Best Visuals, Best Soundtrack, Best Characters and Best Moments. Spoilers will be given an advance warning as needed.
This episode's almost as big as the PS5 itself; a long gap between recordings (as well as Blue Map's long overdue return) means a whole lot of fat to chew. We talk PS5, we talk Xbox Series X, we talk Sephiroth, Franchise revivals under new legally-distinct monikers, Cyberpunk 2077.....yeah, that happened...and so much more!
So many Achivements.....so much grinding.Even when playing current games, my brain has been working overtime in preparing for the next generation. Beeb and Uzuki are less obsessed, but no less entertaining in this jam-packed Halloween episode, featuring spoooooooky voices!* *okay, in truth our recording got a bit messed up due to connection issues, so you may experience instances of weirdly-pitched commentary. I edited it best I could so it should still be perfectly listenable. Sorry about that, contrary to our motto we aren't professionals.
Been a while since Shadowfire and Uzuki joined in, so we've got a real SUGOI DEKAI episode today. The three of us talk about the PS5 event, the launch games, Final Fantasy XVI, Avengers, and my newest shame: Vtubers. If you manage to listen through all that, there's another segment where Beeb and I talk some more PS5 stuff in addition to the latest Monster Hunter Direct (I guess there were some other games in there too). Intro: Eekum Bokum But It's A Song (Kyle Allen Music)Outro: Final Fantasy XVI Trailer Music Re-Created (Alex Moukala EXTRA)Ending: Bury The Light (Casey Edwards Ft. Victor Borba)
You'd think there would be more free time during this stay-at-home lifestyle, but it took a bit of time before one of my regulars became available. Beeb and I try to catch up to current events with a healthy dose of discussions involving comic properties, comic silliness, corporate toxicity, next-gen speculation (well, more like frustration), politics....anime....final fantasy....yeah, all that good stuff.
It's not the most pleasant of conversations today, but Blue Map is still eager to talk through some of the latest bad news surrounding the FGC. We also try to lighten the mood with discussions about open world games, OLED TVs, and telling anti-mask people to go to hell.
Beeb joins me for a whole lot of Nintendo Switch-related talk, thanks to a collection of coincidences that helped add some hidden gems (at insanely discounted prices) to an already extensive list of games. A few of the other common topics pop up as well: Anime, Final Fantasy, the growing existential terror that permeats throughout 2020....all good stuff.
Blue Map is finally back after a long overdue absence, so the two of us get to talking about the state of fighting games in the hopes it can distract us from the state of everything else. We also briefly speculate on the PS5 event (before we knew about its postponement, see the aforementioned state of everything else), talk about why Robocop is cooler than Terminator and Cobra is cooler than G.I. Joe. Lil Stamp (FFVII Remake) Song by Megami33: https://youtu.be/CIontScdpzU
We're holding nothing back this time, from full spoilers of the Remake, the original game, the Compilation stuff, to unrestrained fanboyish excitement. The four of us unanimously loved Final Fantasy VII Remake and can barely contain ourselves from deep diving into every possible element. The characters, the story, the big unanswered questions and what it means for the future, it's all here. Today's guests include LockedOnTarget and Uzuki, as well as the years-long return of VagrantWinds. The last time he was on, we were still speculating on FFXV!
You don't know how good it feels just typing out that title...the game that many have anticipated almost as long as this podcast has been up has finally arrived.LockedOnTarget has returned right on time to join me in discussing the first three chapters of the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Spoilers JUST for those three chapters (and a couple for chapter 4 that slip out, sorry). The original game gets spoiled a bit as well, so keep that in mind before you listen.
Look, videogames! Lots of great new videogames! Cute games! Violent games! Violently Cute Games! No, don't look outside the window! Stay inside, where everything's fine! Shut-ins and NEETs had it right the whole time! Stay inside, play videogames! Everything is fine!
The official launch may have been pushed back a bit, but we've still been given the opportunity to touch a small part of the most anticpated remake of all time. Joining me and Uzuki are two fresh faces from the Penny Arcade forum to dive deep into the FFVII R demo, sharing all of our hopes, fears, predictions and our pathetic need to stock up on crappy chocolate for a couple of DLC goodies. But hey, I'd do far worse for Tifa.Be sure to also give the following links a lookie-loo:https://www.twitch.tv/koopahtroopahhttps://tifazine.tumblr.com/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V68GCZ61Rc
A new work schedule means fewer episodes may be on the pipeline this year. Fortunately, I managed to wrangle in Uzuki so we can have a one-on-one on semi-current events that interested us. After all, time stands still for me until FFVII Remake comes out (speaking of which....).Also listen in to our opinions about not one but TWO videogame movies (one of them is actually good!) as well as a spoilercast for the Kingdom Hearts III DLC, ReMind.
Not three days into 2020 and we've already got an ominous hashtag, big game leaks, and the dearly departing (but still very much alive) of one of Giant Bomb's finest. But if a winter cold won't bring Blue Map down, then neither should the recent news. It's a new year with a lot of new things to look forward to.Well, one new thing.Final Fantasy VII Remake.Nothing else matters.......okay the Resident Evil 3 Remake looks rad too.
2020 is a year I'm very much looking forward to, for many reasons (FFVII FFVII FFVII FFVII FFVII....), but before we can kill the past, we must honor it by discussing our favorite moments, characters, music and other self-made GOTY categories for the year 2019.It's a nearly full house with myself, Beeb, Shadowfire and Uzuki as we cover the first half of our yearly reminiscence.
This year's awards show wasn't the worst, but it was pretty forgettable. So forgettable, in fact, that I forgot to put this episode up for a week!Oh well, Beeb is here and we talk about stuff. He has his Pokemon, I have my FFVII.Dat Nemesis tho.
That Simpsons "New Hat" meme has never been more appropriate than now, where Blizzard's attempts of sweeping their latest ugliness under the rug is thoroughly discussed (and with disgust) by Blue Map and me. Once we're done ragging on the big Western companies, we get to talking about the good stuff like The Outer Worlds. Listen to the end for a spoiler discussion about the game's first story quest!
There's no way we could possibly catch up to the last few weeks of news, especially when companies find new ways to shoot themselves in the foot (repeatedly!). It's equal parts praise and crticism in this week's episode. Any excuse to yell about Konami some more.
Nintendo just casually dropped a Direct that ran circles over their E3 presentation, and Blue Map and Uzuki join me in the game-by-game breakdown. Also that Steven Universe movie was pretty rad.
I've barely pulled myself away from Shadowbringers' meaty claws long enough to add another massive RPG to my plate, one that Beeb is all too happy to talk about despite a few hours of play. The usual Fire Emblem discussions about waifus, impractical outfits and face-touching are in play here, as well as a whole new set of mechanics and features that invigorate the series to new Totally-Not-Persona heights.
Blue Map and Uzuki meet for the first time in my podcast. What could possibly go wrong? After several snip-snips of creepy porn talk, not too much. And if anyone's gotten sick of all my Final Fantasy VII Remake shilling, you'll be happy to know I've taken an extended break on that....to shill about Final Fantasy XIV instead.
A new guest joins me and Shadowfire today to talk some more about the Final Fantasy VII Remake. You didn't really think one recording would be enough to satisfy me?
FINAL FANTASY VII! I guess some other stuff happened too.
We're just a few days away from E3, and I still can't stop talking about the Square Enix conference and the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Beeb, on the other hand, shows me how fan gushing really works by talking longer and fanboy-ier about the latest Pokemon Direct. Adorable sheep! Kaiju Pokemon! Multiplayer Raids! And all sorts of uncomfortable fetishes that should never surround a cute and wholesome series! All this and a whole lot more on our Pre-E3 prediction!
Pop Culture (and its respective fandoms) have no chill this year: even though it's barely been a month since the double whammy of finales, we're already moving forward to the next big things peering over the horizon. Beeb and I sit together for a long overdue and probably out of date spoilercast for the Game of Thrones series finale and Avengers Endgame. Other topics crop up including the recently revealed date for Death Stranding, Detective Pikachu, and of course: Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Final Fantasy VII Remake is back! There's a new trailer, we need to do a lengthy breakdown of every single scene! What do you mean this guy are sick???
Has there ever been such an impending pop culture doom? The bodies are ready to litter the streets of the two biggest media franchises, as Beeb and I sit down and speculate how Avengers: Endgame and the rest of Game of Thrones will play out. Who will be survive, and what will be left of them? How many last-second anime Mcguffins will be pulled out of thin air? Can we survive the social media plague of spoilers before witnessing the ends ourselves?Spoilers for up to episode 69 (nice) of Game of Thrones and Avengers: Infinity War. Harry Potter and Kill Bill also come up, so fair warning.
Blue Map and Shadowfire join me for another pow-wow about the latest gaming gossip, including the sneak peak at Sony's specs for the Playstation 5 (?), how the latest event reward may have killed Final Fantasy XIV's lore, the madness of randomizer mods, a deserved cheer for Shazam! and a disappointing jeer for Dark Phoenix (from what we've heard, anyway).
Blue and I are finally ready to talk about Devil May Cry V in its entirety. Beeb is also on board to talk Sekiro, Baba is You, Con Woes, Plant Boobies, Wishes Gone Wrong and Square's latest blunder.
I'll always give credit where credit is due, and Capcom has been on a roll lately (but they're not quite "CapGod" yet). Blue Map joins me eager to talk about Devil May Cry V...or talk around it, as he ended up marathoning the whole thing in a day whereas I'm only five missions in. We also talk about Capcom's past mistakes, Square's continued mistakes (at what point did Left Alive ever seem like a good idea?), and I also share my latest gaming obsession. I'll give you a hint: It's a Shooty Looty.
Locked-On Target and Beeb are finally available to join me in a spoiler-talk for Kingdom Hearts III. But before that, we talk about the newly announced Pokemon game and why the new favorite among the starters has never been made so clear. We're also baffled by THQ Nordic's PR, Tetris 99 dropping out of nowhere like an L-shape out of hell, Police Stands, and somewhere along the line we talk about Final Fantasy VII Remake because that's pretty much mandatory at this point.
It's time to talk about some post-game Resident Evil 2 Remake. Blue Map and I are eager to munch into the itchy tasty morsel of the Remake. But also I need to scream about some anime before we start. It's a symbol of my devotion to you.
Superbowl got you down? No worries, this January has seen two of the biggest videogame hits of the year, and with fellow fan Beeb available, we dive into the goodness that is Kingdom Hearts III for a quick spell.Minor story spoilers for the first four worlds.
Blue Map and I temporarily pry ourselves from the greatness that is Resident Evil 2 Remake to talk about how great Resident Evil 2 Remake is. A lot.I also talk about Kingdom Hearts III a little. Couldn't help myself and spoil what might be its most elaborate easter egg too (you'll get a spoiler warning ahead of time, no worries).
There were a few days left until the Resident Evil 2 Remake, but I simply couldn't contain my hype. Blue Map joins me as we share our excitement for the return of Survival Horror's greatest, while I unleash my equally-spread hype for Kingdom Hearts III, which is also nearly out. January has also had a heck of an Anime month, as I shill some of the newest shows like Dororo, Mob Psycho 100 and the best Dragon Ball movie of all time.
In order to kill the past, I must finish our 2018 talks with Blue Map. The new year is off to a bummer start with news like Klonoa's cancellation, the growing toxicity both inside Blizzard and out, the squandering of cyberpunk settings and more. But things do take an optimistic turn as we look toward the horizon of 2019, with a plethora of awesome games we already know about and many more to come.
Before we can start 2019 proper, we need to finish the fight and give 2018 a proper sendoff. We may be one man short, but the rest of us are ready to talk about our favorite trends, most disappointing games, our long-awaited top games of the year and what we're looking forward to in the new year.
The South Figaro Podcast brings a Christmas Gift for y'all: the first of our two-part GOTY 2018 deliberations. Featuring a returning fifth member!
This week is a celebration of videogames, from The Game Awards to Super Smash Bros Ultimate. There's a whole lot to talk about, both good and bad (but mostly good), from Netflix's major anime aquisitions, the latest (and hardly final) major surprise Smash Bros guest, Devil May Cry 5's demo, awesome soundtracks that got snubbed in the awards, it's all here!
Welcome to a special "We're Bored On A Tuesday Night So We Talk About Things"-cast (thanks for the name, Blue Map). We talk about a few new things (such as Hitman 2), reiterate on a few older things (Playstation 5 rumors), and we also rag on Square Enix some more (being real stingy about Smash Bros there). Fill up on turkey and give us a listen.
Is the newest Pokemon Let's Go for babies, or the perfect streamlining of the long-running series? Resident Pokemon fanatic-er, master Beeb weighs in on the game, while I talk about my first Distant Worlds concert and how it renewed my love and faith for the Final Fantasy series....for the brief moment until the bad news kicked in. Also, my iron-clad 100% accurate predictions for the Playstation 5!
