I'm about 15 hours in and having the time of my life. The game scratches such a specific type of itch for me, and I'm sure would do the same for veteran gamers of a certain era. It somehow feels authentically retro and yet wholly unique at the same time. As much as the game is touted as a top down Zelda-like, it borrows just as much DNA from the likes of NES games like Dragon Warrior, StarTropics, Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. Finished Requiem, then played through biohazard, and I just rolled credits on village this weekend. All of these games were amazing! I was certain at least one of the games in the bundle was going to be a dud, but I was wrong. We ask Chris why, despite a glut of same-y industry award shows, he believes we need more—not less—and what the value of those shows could be if they focused more on specific types of games or just generally dared to be weirder. Then we move on to the latest grim tidings out of Microsoft, where multiple studios including Double Fine, Compulsion, and Ninja Theory are now on the chopping block. What's the plan here? I played through Mixtape via Xbox Game Pass and I enjoyed it - but it's not going to be my GOTY and it didn't really reflect on my personal experience growing up in that time period. But you can wait for a sale - Mixtape's music licenses were agreed to in perpetuity, so the game will not be delisted. I then talk a lot about Forza Horizon 6, and how we've started to enter the roster update phase of one of my favorite game series. (But I'm still loving it) A bill in California has passed committee that will make it illegal for games to be sold that will be unplayable when the publisher shuts down online servers. Then we talk to Brad from OLR IIDX about Forza Horizon 6 and how it scales its difficulty levels.

Forza Horizon 6 dropped in Japan and we both went deep — Raz put in 27 hours, Jake is still learning. This week we break down everything: who this game is actually for, whether you need to be a car guy to enjoy it, and whether the critics are right about the Metacritic 92. We go hard on the manual vs. automatic debate (Jake is on manual with clutch, Raz is on automatic — and Jake has opinions about that). We talk tuning depth vs. accessibility, the "same loop new map" criticism, and why Japan is a better setting than you might expect. Then it gets personal: Jake refuses to drive Japanese rice burners in-game, breaks down exactly why a stock '69 Mustang beats a $300,000 Civic, and the Honda CRX takes a beating.
