Them Sweet Mythos Boys return to the Final Fantasy well once more with a trip to Valisthea. Joe and Ethan dig into this Devil May Cry game cosplaying as a Final Fantasy, and dissect its narrative, characters, and overall oddness that is this game. For such a poorly paced hodgepodge of a game...we both actually kind of like it. It certainly has its ups and downs, but either way, it certainly makes for a very fun episode.
Welcome to The Rush Hour podcast on Rushdown Radio, where we've got a packed episode in stored. We'll also explore Google's testing of a Stadia-like feature, reflect on Peter Molyneux's regrets about over-promising his games, review the latest Nintendo Direct and Sony's State of Play showcase, and break down the Unity developer fee debacle. Join us for an exciting gaming journey and insightful discussions on the hottest topics in the industry! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
On this episode we're joined by Joe Hogan, to talk about his Perfect Ten video game, Final Fantasy XVI!
unity decided to just drop a nuke on the game development world and the both backtracked and doubled down, but so far it has cause among us to be pulled from storefronts. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios VFX artists have unanimously voted to join IATSE, in the first of its kind unionization vote in the VFX industry. Starfield continues to dominate the headlines and gaming charts, SquareEnix may be facing a interesting situation, and the iPhone is getting AAA gaming support. Meanwhile Miyazaki unretires, Alan Moore gives his money to charity, and Shawn Levy says Deadpool is like John Candy. Plus my favorite 80s teen movies! Come take a listen.
On this episode of Video Games 2 the MAX, Sean, and Marc discuss Sea of Stars and Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, among some other games. Also, a huge surprise from Unity has game developers in a major outcry over the game engine pursuing charging fees if a game hits over a certain number of installs. And even though Unity has now backtracked on some of the initial wording and clarified some things, there's still a large number of unknowns, especially indie devs that could even delay DLC, delete their games entirely, or never go into subscription service because of these fees. This could be super detrimental to the industry or it could just wind up hurting Unity and Unity-made games. Either way, there's a lot to discuss on this one. Also, Starfield is doing well and even selling systems for Xbox. While Square-Enix does it again and says that another game, this time Final Fantasy XVI did not match expectations. Although it seems like many folks within the company understand where the issues are coming from, why is Square-Enix not listening? Is this more on Square-Enix? Or is the actual game (FF 16)'s fault that it "did not meet expectations?" Plus, Nintendo has been showing off the Switch 2 in tech demos, and the DLSS technology has it doing some really cool things, Charles Martinet's new role is explained, Phil Spencer is once again coy about Elder Scrolls VI, and more! You can also watch this episode on the W2M Network Channel, please give us a like, comment, and follow over there too: https://youtube.com/live/nQea_WXifVA- Listen and give us a review on these platforms -https://podcasts.apple.com/ag/podcast/video-games-2-the-max/id886092740https://open.spotify.com/show/2wjd0u3xO7TdAm4gKRM44Lhttps://www.audible.com/pd/Video-Games-2-the-MAX-Podcast/B08JJPTZTWhttps://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/video-games-2-the-max-181386https://podcastaddict.com/?podId=2465904https://www.iheart.com/podcast/53-video-games-2-the-m-28438312/- Follow on Twitter -Sean on Twitter: https://twitter.com/W2MSeanW2M Network on Twitter: https://twitter.com/w2mnetwork- Other Social Media -Follow us on Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@w2mnetwork2Join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/aydMgvUN9dFollow us on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/w2mnetworkFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/w2mnetwork/Follow Us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/W2MNetwork

It's a double-header on today's podcast as we review two very different things from this summer that we both love passionately: FX's Justified: City Primeval, the sequel miniseries to the modern neo-western classic starring Timothy Olyphant, and Square Enix's Final Fantasy XVI, the latest and among-the-greatest entry in the venerable JRPG series. Justified is one of our favorite TV series, and the return absolutely did not disappoint, putting Raylan Givens in a new setting and telling a new kind of story with him, while continuing his character development in really smart, thoughtful ways. Final Fantasy XVI is one of the year's best games, but also perhaps one of its most misunderstood, and in this discussion, we mainly break down the story and themes and why so much of what it's doing has been dismissed in Western reviews and thinkpieces. Enjoy! Sean and Marc are back to discuss what's been happening in gaming and happy Starfield release day to all who have been waiting for it! Sean meant to play some prior to the podcast, but couldn't wake up early enough before recording. But the guys do go over Review Round-Up what some critics, friends, and others have been saying about it. Also, Sean, the resident One Piece fan did watch the Netflix live-action show (twice) all the way through and he has some thoughts on it, but overall it is actually good! It gives Sean hope for other anime live-action shows in the future. In the news... Volition Studios, makers of Saints Row has been closed. Final Fantasy XVI is officially getting a PC version and DLC, and there's new Super Mario Bros. Wonder news thanks to a short Nintendo Direct. Stray is getting a movie, voice actors are also at a stalemate with game companies over a new deal, Diablo IV is getting annual expansions and much more! You can also watch this episode on the W2M Network Channel, please give us a like, comment, and follow over there too: https://youtube.com/live/enKYqMbJoC4- Listen and give us a review on these platforms -https://podcasts.apple.com/ag/podcast/video-games-2-the-max/id886092740https://open.spotify.com/show/2wjd0u3xO7TdAm4gKRM44Lhttps://www.audible.com/pd/Video-Games-2-the-MAX-Podcast/B08JJPTZTWhttps://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/video-games-2-the-max-181386https://podcastaddict.com/?podId=2465904https://www.iheart.com/podcast/53-video-games-2-the-m-28438312/- Follow on Twitter -Sean on Twitter: https://twitter.com/W2MSeanW2M Network on Twitter: https://twitter.com/w2mnetwork- Other Social Media -Follow us on Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@w2mnetwork2Join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/aydMgvUN9dFollow us on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/w2mnetworkFollow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/w2mnetwork/Follow Us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/W2MNetwork

It's The State of Gaming Podcast, Popzara's in-depth look at what's shaking up the gaming landscape delivered on a monthly basis. Our hosts Cory Galliher and Nate Evans guide you through the best, worst, and everything else making headlines and headway in the world of interactive entertainment. The biggest games of the month include: Baldur's Gate 3, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, Immortals of Aveum, Atlas Fallen, Blasphemous 2, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Rhapsody: Marl Kingdom Chronicles, Sea of Stars, and Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy. Other notables include: Quake 2 Remastered, Red Dead Redemption Remastered, Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical, WrestleQuest, and Vampire Survivors (Switch). Circana remains the gaming industry's best snapshot of what's moving and shaking up both physical and digital retail shelves across the country. All estimates are for entertainment purposes only. Total sales of new gaming hardware and software topped $4.18 billion, a slim 1 percent uptick over last year. The software charts get interesting as Remnant II debuts in first, Diablo IV takes second, Final Fantasy XVI in fifth, Pikmin 4 debuts in sixth, and Exoprimal in sixteenth. But there's more! Nintendo's Switch surpasses the lifetime sales of the Wii in the US! Was the Gran Turismo movie really the weekend's number 1 at the box-office? You really shouldn't sell stolen copies of Starfield. PlayStation Plus is getting a hefty price hike! There's a new PSP coming – the PlayStation Portal! And Super Mario Bros. Wonder looks like the trippiest Mario adventure yet.
Another summer ends, that means its new game season, and to start it off we have my early thoughts on Starfield, which is definitely going to be one of my favorite games. We also have a potential third strike coming as SAG-AFTRA looks to strike against the video game publishers. Doug Bowser opens up about Nintendo's future, and Skull & Bones hits another hurdle. Adam Drive, Aaron Paul and others speak out against the AMPTP, Toho drops a big new Godzilla trailer, and Ahsoka was amazing. Also my top 10 80s animated movies gets a shoutout.

Final Fantasy XVI, the latest addition to the storied Square Enix franchise, is a large and beautiful world with complex and dynamic characters. At PAX West 2023, we sat down with Localization Director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox, and some of the voices behind beloved characters, including Clive Rosfield (Ben Starr), Margrace (Jonathan Case), and Benedikta Harman (Nina Yndis) to discuss what it's like joining the legacy of such a special franchise, the skill involved with voice acting, and how the unique way that Final Fantasy XVI's localization allowed the game's actors the freedom to explore and create the characters alongside the localization team.

We're back after a month away with a “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” catch-up episode, and it's quite the grab bag! Sean gives impressions of some recent video games including Armored Core VI and the 4.0 Fontaine update of Genshin Impact, while Jonathan tells us about unexpectedly becoming a fan of Sword Art Online while researching his dissertation, and walks us through the giant stack of movies he watched over the last week of summer, from a few Michael Mann classics on 4K Blu-ray to the re-release of Park Chan-wook's Oldboy in theaters. More discussion of Final Fantasy XVI and a discussion of the great Arleen Sorkin, originator of Harley Quinn who passed away over the weekend, round out the episode. Enjoy! Austin Wintory chats with actor Ben Starr, who played the lead role of Clive Rosfield in the latest entry to the Final Fantasy series, Final Fantasy XVI. Together they discuss how he started acting and his early love of video games; his thought process behind when getting into character and bringing the writing to life; the psychological toll of performance art; and the difficult but freeing process of acting for video games. Well, here we are at last! It’s the special episode of Nerds Without Pants that no one asked for, but Julian and Justin needed to record. We’re joined by special guest Xavier Kreiger to talk all about Final Fantasy XVI from beginning to end. This is a spoilercast that reveals the ending in the first ten seconds of the show. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. We begin by asking Xavier about his overall thoughts about the game, especially the mechanics since we already covered our thoughts about that at length in the main show over the past few weeks. After that we go through the story point by point. While we’re all pretty down on the story overall we definitely take the time to highlight the moments and characters that really work for us. This is all punctuated with a myriad of clips and songs from the game to drive the bigger points home. We hope you enjoy, because this was a ton of work to put together! Twitter: @NWPcast Email: NWPcast@gmail.com Our theme song “Relax” and interstitial tracks “To the Maxx” and “Moody Grooves” are written and performed by Megan McDuffee.

Is PlayStation doing well? It's easy to answer "yes" after reading Sony's recent quarterly financial reports, which shows exploding levels of revenue, with a lower-than-expected profit margin scaring markets (even as the Japanese behemoth remains in the black). Then again, that something as relatively cheap as Bungie's acquisition could in part affect the firm's wider earnings is a sign that Sony simply isn't on the level of its competition when it comes to purchasing power, and thus it needs to be more deliberate and cautious. Should we be worried about PlayStation's trajectory, specifically with a seeming dearth of known first and second party games beyond Spider-Man 2 and Helldivers 2? Heck, did Final Fantasy XVI undersell after all, potentially fracturing their relationship with Square Enix? As usual, we've much to discuss. Other news this week includes an analysis of Rockstar's questionable Red Dead Redemption PS4 port, controversy surrounding PSVR2, Twisted Metal's excellent performance on Peacock, and much more. Listener inquiries wrap things up, as usual. Should we tip our cap to Fortnite for a job well done? Are Nintendo's recent patents a step too far for game development? Why do some people think Starfield will fail when it's obvious it won't? Will Colin survive hearing a list of his perceived worst takes? Learn more about your ad choices.
