One of the big news stories of this week is that a pre-order date for Grand Theft Auto 6 has been announced - just in case you were skeptical about this game being one of the biggest launches of anything ever. Speaking of launches, Xbox has launched another new round of studio closures which obviously sucks! On a more positive note, we've checked out a bunch of fun and creative new demos as part of Steam Next Fest, and Square's new action RPG The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. This episode is brought to you by Distant Worlds, a celebration of music from Final Fantasy performed by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Hamer Hall from July 23 - 25. Book now at mso.com.au Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

It's been a big week for news in the more distant parts of the Galaxy. The Distant Worlds 3 expedition is coming to the end of its 15-stop tour of the Galaxy, and colonisation crews working for Project Galtea have started preparing for their next push, which will create colonies more than 10,000 LY from Sol.
The October Consortium is apparently delighted with their pile of nearly three million Guardian Artefacts. Meanwhile, the evacuation of Lhou Mans is going well, and the Distant Worlds 3 expedition has been scanning their own beacon.
The Distant Worlds 3 Expedition is heading to a cluster of Guardian sites close to the centre of the Galaxy. However, there is no word on whether this timely visit to the remains of a civilisation that has recently sparked new interest is anything more than a coincidence. Plus, there's a beacon to scan, and the new ship, the Lynx Highliner, will be available to buy for Credits, from tomorrow, 28th April.
There have been further reports of pirate raids across core systems this week, prompting concerns over a growing pirate threat. There are just three more waypoints on the Distant Worlds 3 expedition, which will end in three weeks. And the Guardian Artefact initiative enters its final few days, with some Commanders unable to unload their Fleet Carriers.
Studying planets in other solar systems isn't easy, especially when their host stars keep stealing the spotlight. NASA's Pandora mission will cut through the noise, revealing what the atmospheres of these distant worlds are really made of.

A nontechnical talk by Dr. Bruce Macintosh (University of California Observatories)Mar. 11, 2026In the past three decades, more than 6000 planets have been discovered orbiting other stars. Advances in technology have allowed a handful of giant planets around other stars to be imaged directly. Dr. Macintosh tells us about the first-ever images of other solar systems — and the technology that has allowed us to discover them, such as the Gemini Planet Imager — as well as the future planet-hunting space telescopes. The ultimate goal is detection of a second ‘pale blue dot' — an Earth twin where we could even see the biosignatures of extrasolar life. (He also talks a bit about the wind damage to the Lick Observatory and what is being done to repair the historic dome.)Bruce Macintosh is the Director of the University of California Observatories in California and Hawaii. He co-led the team that imaged the first extrasolar planets, and was the Principal Investigator of the Gemini Planet Imager, an advanced planet-finder for the Gemini South telescope.

The truce in the Radicoida enclave is over, but you probably wouldn't notice the difference. And the Distant Worlds 3 expedition is planning an SRV time trial that ends by diving into a crater.
A new spaceship will be announced tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Distant Worlds 3 expedition has gone as far as it can, and has turned itself around.
There is concern that a Vox Galactica report may have been influenced by agitators keen to see an end to the ceasefire. And some members of the Distant Worlds 3 expedition have expressed disquiet about the unexpectedly long distance to the next waypoint.
Shocking scenes have emerged of shoddy building work by Brewer Corporation on a recently completed asteroid base. Hamm City, in COL 285 Sector CY-N B21-8, is a lengthy supercruise from the jump-in point, but that's no excuse for poor workmanship, according to System Architect CMDR _Bagpiper_. Plus, we catch up with Distant Worlds 3 as it leaves the World of Death.

What is the connection between Distant Worlds 2 and the concept of "awe"?Awe - the feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear and wonder.Awesome -having some awe. Now used to mean something good, cool, interesting. As in it was awesome to get Erik Rutins AND Dastactic on the show.Awe inspiring - bringing about the sense of awe. As in, the concept of Distant Worlds 2 is awe inspiring.Awful - meaning, literally, full of awe, yet somehow the exact opposite of awesome. As in, it is awful that I have waited this long to play Distant Worlds 2.Yes, this show is about Distant Worlds 2. We have Erik Rutins, Dastactic, Drexy, David and Andy (who says very little because he is awestruck!)Enjoy, and keep exploring!
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Clare's distain for exploration is as far reaching as Distant Worlds 3. They have used the QOTW as incentive for the community to convince her otherwise. The crew also express their opinions about HIP 22460.

Think of a place and time in history and imagine what it smelled like. This has been the source of inspiration for Carlos: tapping into scent to unlock the past. His work as a fragrance developer includes the signature scent for St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, the nostagia-infused Vacation sunscreens, and the first fine fragrance for J.Crew. With ARQUISTE, he channels his background in architecture and historic preservation to create time capsule experiences in collaboration with perfumers Rodrigo Flores-Roux and Yann Vasnier. In this episode, Carlos sits down with Brittney Jackson Moseley, who runs integrated marketing at Scentbird. He talks about the magic of baby cologne and tells the story of how pachouli became the scent of outcasts. Together they explore destinations around the world through hundreds of years, from 16th century Japan to 17th century Mexico.Highlights:• Discovering architecture, from Mexico City and beyond• What historic preservation and fragrance have in common• Where wanderlust took Carlos around the world• The magic of New York for perfumery• Fragrance ingredients native to Mexico: tuberose, frangipani, marigold, acacia• Grooming rituals and the first love for fragrance• Scent as a time capsule• Writing fragrance briefs as in-depth academic essays• What it felt like to smell the first-ever modifications• Why Americans are missing out on baby cologne• How the best fragrances are made• Scent Spotlight: Misfit, Nanban, and Sydney Rock Pool• The fragrance Rodrigo Flores-Roux made for Carlos• Why pachouli is a bit of an accident to our noses• The fragrance ingredients that “barbarians” brought to Japan• The summer scent that captures a day at the beach• Scent Connection, Distant Worlds Edition• What do these cities smell like? St. Petersburg, Paris, Acapulco, and Calabria• Why beauty is tied to meaningFeatured Fragrances:Misfit by ARQUISTESydney Rock Pool by ARQUISTENanban by ARQUISTESoak in all of our audio and video content at https://podcast.scentbird.com.
