Werbung: https://linktr.ee/Podcastsrbtv Learn more about your ad choices.

This week on Critical Arcade, Dave and Nick bow respectfully, immediately forget that respect mid-fight, and throw themselves headfirst into the merciless world of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Set in a crumbling, blood-soaked version of Sengoku-era Japan, they take on the role of Wolf, a one-armed shinobi bound by duty, honor, and a prosthetic arm packed with far more gadgets than either host is capable of using correctly. As Ashina teeters on the brink of collapse, Dave and Nick face off against ruthless samurai, terrifying monsters, and bosses who seem specifically designed to crush confidence and friendships. From perfectly timed deflections to deathblows that feel earned through sheer suffering, Sekiro demands focus, patience, and an acceptance that dying is not failure — it's education. Very painful education. Will Dave finally break his Soulsborne habit of rolling when the game clearly wants him to stand his ground? How many times will Nick say “okay, I get it now” moments before being obliterated by a lightning-infused sword? And just how many resurrection nodes are too many before the game starts judging you silently?Expect heated debates about difficulty, accidental stealth disasters, dramatic grappling hook mishaps, and at least one boss fight that completely breaks the episode's pacing. This is a journey about mastery, stubbornness, and learning when to stay aggressive — and when to accept that the game has absolutely won. Tune in as Critical Arcade learns that in Sekiro, hesitation really is defeat. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
On this week's episode the gang talks about iconic TV shows, Dan gives us an update on his Sekiro progress, and Mary falls in love with a new metroidvania.

What makes a great boss fight? Is it brutal difficulty, unforgettable music, smart mechanics, emotional story stakes, or all of the above? In this episode, we dive headfirst into our favorite boss fights of all time and break down why they stick with us. From multi-phase nightmares and clever multi-target designs to cinematic showpieces and secret "god mode" finales, we cover it all. We talk legendary encounters from games like Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Dragoon, Ocarina of Time, Metal Gear Solid, Kingdom Hearts, Sekiro, Final Fantasy, Hollow Knight Silksong, Katana Zero, Stellar Blade, and more. Plus how music, atmosphere, and narrative twists can elevate a boss fight from "hard" to iconic. Expect passionate debates, deep dives into boss design, surprise K-pop battle themes, emotional gut-punches, secret bosses you probably missed, and a whole lot of love for games that dare to challenge the player. #gamingpodcast #videogamepodcast #gamingsofficialpodcast Youtube Instagram
The First Berserker: Khazan (2025) is the definitive, blood-soaked origin story of the Dungeon & Fighter universe, developed by the combat wizards at Neople and published by Nexon. Released on March 27, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, it is an Action-RPG that dares to bridge the gap between the surgical precision of Sekiro and the chaotic, loot-heavy addiction of Nioh.

God helg! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
A new rumor claims that DuskBlood was greenlit even before Sekiro's marketing cycle and has gone through the longest pure gameplay prototyping phase of any FromSoftware game. The leak also suggests the title will feature both PVE and PVP with innovative mechanics that the team is reportedly very proud of. In today's episode, we break down what this rumor could mean, how it fits into FromSoftware's release timeline, and why fans are already hyped about the possibilities.Content Creation Gear https://n64josh.com/elgato use code N64JoshFor ad-free episodes, subscribe here. https://anchor.fm/nintendo-power-cast/subscribeConnect with meMy Nintendo Switch Recommendations: http://n64josh.com/amazonDiscord: http://n64josh.com/discord Twitch: https://twitch.com/n64josh Tiktok: https://tiktok.com/n64josh Twitter: https://twitter.com/n64josh

We're back after our summer holidays and kicking off the second half of season 3 by looking at a particular Washington-based developer that we've looked at many times before, Sucker Punch Productions. After chatting about two-thirds of their raccoon trilogy on this very podcast, we're taking a look at something that is much more recent, much more grown-up, much more samurai. We're going back to 2020 to take a look at an open-world, action-adventure game set during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. We're talking Ghost of Tsushima. On this episode of Stealth Boom Boom, we chat a little bit about tourism, whether Akira Kurosawa mode is just a black and white filter and nothing more, and there's what some people are calling “a surprising amount of Infamous chat”, too. We also look at how they tried to balance authenticity with audience expectation, finishing a game during a global pandemic, and there's a heated discussion about wind. Here are some of the things you're gonna hear us chat about in our review: outrageously quick load times; stealth that encourages speed over patience; some very enjoyable, very familiar outpost-clearing; the power of Focused Hearing; loads of tall grass; the feeling of a sequel to Assassin's Creed 2; being hated by samurai as you fling kunai, wind chimes, and sticky bombs about; undercover Batman; sword-fighting that feels like accessible Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, whilst also engaging the player with a number of different things to consider; no lock on; announcing your arrival at the beginning of a fight; taking on one other opponent in a duel; running after foxes, slicing bamboo, and one or two other things that are absolutely everywhere on this very large map; an uninspired grappling hook; an island that is too big for some and the right size for others; Samuel Taylor Coleridge; Ishikawa's student; a plot that would've worked better in a more linear game; using Ghost tactics and feeling completely fine; and our clothing choices. After all that, we take you through what some of the critics were saying about the game around the time it came out, and then we give you our final verdicts on whether Ghost of Tsushima is a Pass, a Play, or an Espionage Explosion. For those who would like to play along at home, we'll be discussing, reviewing and dissecting Amnesia: The Dark Descent on the next episode of Stealth Boom Boom.IMPORTANT LINKS TO THINGS

Stealth games! We've been trying to figure out how to make games anti-action for a long time, and before we ever got to Sekiro, we had a little game called Tenchu Stealth Assassins. My, how the genre has evolved.
As a fan of Red Candle Games' previous projects, Devotion (episode 139) and Detention (bonus episode on Patreon), Nine Sols instantly leapt onto my watchlist as soon as it was announced. However, as it released, I was a bit nervous to dive into it due to its Sekiro-inspired combat. I like Sekiro a lot, but did I want another one right then? Luckily, a few friends (including Josh, today's guest) convinced me to give it a whirl...and I was not disappointed. The combat is smooth and satisfying, the art and music are fantastic, and it tells what might be the best story in the genre. This is an awesome game, and I hope you enjoy the discussion! The industry was recently set alight by a pair of articles from newswire Reuters indicating that Sony is interested in buying Japanese media conglomerate Kadokawa Corporation, and indeed, Kadokawa itself has since confirmed the reporting. Such a move has massive implications for Sony's increasing dominance in the anime and manga spaces, and it's likely this attempt at M&A is squarely focused on that first and foremost. But acquiring Kadokawa could be a huge boon for the PlayStation brand, too, considering it owns the likes of Spike Chunsoft and Acquire, and perhaps most importantly a controlling share in FromSoftware, too, the prolific studio behind Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Armored Core, Sekiro, King's Field, and more. Should Sony nab Kadokawa, does that mean FromSoft would join PlayStation Studios as a proper first party team? Could further emphasizing Sony's Japanese identity provide a valuable path forward for PlayStation? Other news this week includes fresh PlayStation 6-related rumors, word out of Square Enix concerning Final Fantasy VII Remake: Part III and a potential 2D-HD version of Final Fantasy VI, PlayStation Portal's awesome upgrade to allow cloud gaming without PS5, and more. Per usual, we wrap things up with inquiries from our beloved audience. What are our thoughts on this year's iteration of Geoff Keighley's Game Awards? Which difficulty settings are most appealing to us in the titles we play? How does Colin deal with any negative feedback surrounding the games he writes? In one listener's quest to invite another to be his Best Man, could it be that their shared romance is the real story?
