It's time to decide our next Game Club!Shall we race against the clock in a voyage around the globe in 80 Days, or against thirty gaudy characters designed by SEGA for Nintendo in 2003's F-Zero GX?It's safe to say our Shadows will Die a lot more than Twice in FromSoftware's Sekiro, but maybe we want to LIVE twice with Tux and Fanny! And then there's the oxymoronically ubiquitous cult classic DELTARUNE: will Alon be able to get the game's window to display properly?Come on down to the Wide Flank Discord NOW to vote on the next Game Club game: https://discord.gg/ACbDjNhMpJSign up for the Patreon and join the ranks of the High Council to submit games for future mini Clubs: https://www.patreon.com/wideflankHappy Gaming!—TIMESTAMPS00:00:00 - Cold open00:00:35 - Intro and veto discussion00:04:44 - Sean's ranking game00:07:16 - 80 Days00:21:19 - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice00:35:12 - Tux and Fanny00:48:16 - F-Zero GX01:01:31 - DELTARUNE01:15:26 - More veto discussion—SHOW NOTESAnamanaguchi: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AnamanaguchiAround the World in Eighty Days: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Around_the_World_in_Eighty_DaysBloodborne: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BloodborneDark Souls: https://store.steampowered.com/app/570940/DARK_SOULS_REMASTERED/Days of Thunder: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Days_of_ThunderDjent https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DjentEarthBound: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EarthBoundF-Zero (1990): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-Zero_(video_game)Forza: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ForzaJules Verne: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jules_VerneKlax: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klax_(video_game)Mario Kart: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario_KartA Minecraft Movie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Minecraft_MovieMischief Makers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mischief_MakersMoby-Dick: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moby-DickNapoleon Dynamite: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napoleon_DynamiteNeed for Speed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Need_for_SpeedPearl Jam: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_JamThe Prodigy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prodigy"Rubbing Is Racing": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2yOmw781hcSmite: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smite_(video_game)The Oregon Trail (game series) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Oregon_Trail_(series)Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty_Thousand_Leagues_Under_the_SeasUndertale: https://store.steampowered.com/app/391540/Undertale/Wipeout: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wipeout_(video_game_series)—[Game Club] Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4WLp8EEeFM[Game Club] Kirby's Dream Course: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOf1K6ArZtA[Game Club] Wave Race 64: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sE9AC9oeSqw[mini Club] Eternal Darkness, Mischief Makers, Killer7, Hylics 2, and Star of Providence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HySfv-jHPg0—WIDE FLANK LINKSJoin the Discord: https://discord.gg/ACbDjNhMpJSupport the show: https://www.patreon.com/wideflankThe rest: https://linktr.ee/wideflank
This week we dive into why we're digging the Switch 2 so much and circling back to some gems from the Switch 1 like Splatoon 3 and Paper Mario, Mike talks about slicing and dicing his way through Sekiro, Grubb's lackluster time in MindsEye, and all of us climbing together in PEAK. We also chat about Microsoft's new deal with AMD, rumors of a PlayStation 6 on the horizon, a Golden Tee remaster, and even more news to catch up on!
Just how terrifyingly hard is Elden Ring Nightreign? Speaking on the eve of the game's release, Radio Times Gaming's Rob Leane tells his colleague Alex Raisbeck about the horrors he faced in the pre-release period with nobody to matchmake with against the increasingly difficult enemies and bosses. With this being the latest game out of FromSoftware (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro), it was no cake walk! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Ninja games are almost as old as video games themselves. From Shinobi to Sekiro, we're running down our favorite ninjas in gaming history.
Alex is officially part of the problem: he has paid for early access to Avowed and after around two hours declares exactly what he always wanted. Chamberlain bounces off of everything before fighting with a new TV and Chance plays through Sekiro again and again, honing his skills, preparing for Elden Ring Nightreign.
Stealth games! We've been trying to figure out how to make games anti-action for a long time, and before we ever got to Sekiro, we had a little game called Tenchu Stealth Assassins. My, how the genre has evolved.
Only Chamberlain is playing something new, suffering through the new normal of obnoxiously difficult metroidvania bosses, courtesy Ender Magnolia. It's not as mean as Grime, but it's close. Chance has rediscovered Sekiro and is somehow better at it now than when he finished it the first time. And Alex finished the final Skyrim DLC over a decade after release. It's about time.
Sexy vampires or corpse-like monsters? Goth or weeb? New mediocre games or ten plus year old masterpieces? These questions and more answered this week! Chamberlain tries to remember the name of Ender Magnolia shortly after buying it, Chance gloats over his domination of Sekiro and Alex is still finding quests in Skyrim that he swears weren't there before.
Animal Well, Ludens, Sekiro, Tunic, Overcooked, Overcooked 2, Brothers: a tale of two sons, Josef Fares, Fez, Sifu, Atari, Notion, Adventure são alguns dos tópicos do diálogo infinito sobre games via WhatsApp. Com João Varella, Alexandre Sato, Thomas Kehl, Marcos Kiyoto e João R Saiba mais: 2 analógicos
Another Crab's Treasure is a combat-oriented soulslike adventure set in an underwater world overrun by a few greedy creatures trying to get their grubby little claws, fins and tentacles on all the wealth of their community. You play as Kril, a tiny hermit crab whose shell was repossessed by a literal loan shark. Now, Kril has to fight his way through the shallows, reefs and open ocean to get his home back. You'll face formidable bosses and navigate through treacherous landscapes on your quest, but you'll also meet some new friends along the way. Just maybe, together, you can overthrow the capitalist system that has the sea in a chokehold. In Episode 39 of No Small Games, Kate and Emily welcome HamonCutta to the show! Hamon is a gaming content creator who currently focuses mainly on soulslike and FromSoft games, which made her an absolutely phenomenal guest to chat with about Another Crab's Treasure. The three discuss their experiences with the combat and boss design, accessibility options, and narrative. But most importantly: what was everyone's favorite shell to wear? As a fan of Red Candle Games' previous projects, Devotion (episode 139) and Detention (bonus episode on Patreon), Nine Sols instantly leapt onto my watchlist as soon as it was announced. However, as it released, I was a bit nervous to dive into it due to its Sekiro-inspired combat. I like Sekiro a lot, but did I want another one right then? Luckily, a few friends (including Josh, today's guest) convinced me to give it a whirl...and I was not disappointed. The combat is smooth and satisfying, the art and music are fantastic, and it tells what might be the best story in the genre. This is an awesome game, and I hope you enjoy the discussion! The industry was recently set alight by a pair of articles from newswire Reuters indicating that Sony is interested in buying Japanese media conglomerate Kadokawa Corporation, and indeed, Kadokawa itself has since confirmed the reporting. Such a move has massive implications for Sony's increasing dominance in the anime and manga spaces, and it's likely this attempt at M&A is squarely focused on that first and foremost. But acquiring Kadokawa could be a huge boon for the PlayStation brand, too, considering it owns the likes of Spike Chunsoft and Acquire, and perhaps most importantly a controlling share in FromSoftware, too, the prolific studio behind Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Armored Core, Sekiro, King's Field, and more. Should Sony nab Kadokawa, does that mean FromSoft would join PlayStation Studios as a proper first party team? Could further emphasizing Sony's Japanese identity provide a valuable path forward for PlayStation? Other news this week includes fresh PlayStation 6-related rumors, word out of Square Enix concerning Final Fantasy VII Remake: Part III and a potential 2D-HD version of Final Fantasy VI, PlayStation Portal's awesome upgrade to allow cloud gaming without PS5, and more. Per usual, we wrap things up with inquiries from our beloved audience. What are our thoughts on this year's iteration of Geoff Keighley's Game Awards? Which difficulty settings are most appealing to us in the titles we play? How does Colin deal with any negative feedback surrounding the games he writes? In one listener's quest to invite another to be his Best Man, could it be that their shared romance is the real story?

The Dark Souls of Retro Encounter fantasy drafts FromSoftware has produced an excellent run of fantasy RPGs since 2009's Demon's Souls, to which point its extended family of action RPGs comprises a genre all its own. And of course, if you can organize RPGs into a series, then Retro Encounter will attempt to draft them in time for American football season. So which player seizes Anor Londo in the first round? How many big two-handed swords are drafted? What player dons a giant mech suit? Listen to find out! Way back on episode 26 we had a topic of disappointing games. Those were games that we thought were going to be really good but ended up just being OK or kinda bad. A little over 100 shows later and we are revisiting that topic, but this time around just focusing on flat out bad games. We never intended any of these games to be good, and in most cases they were not! To add to the fun, we also did a little Secret Santa type swap where we chose crappy games for each other to play. Some people got lucky with a decent game and others were stuck playing Lizard Lady vs The Cats. We also chose to play some terrible games by choice such as classic bad game Shaq Fu and more modern games like Control. Wait, Control is a bad game? Well to some of the less cultured members of the podcast... To balance things out, we did get some great game discussion mixed in with - new indie game hotness Animal Well, FromSoft classic Sekiro, Final Fantasy Theatrhythm, and more! Oh and if you stick around to the end...my apologies.

Grand Covenant's Fourth Law: A podcast cannot lie. Welcome back to the podcast! Lies of P is definitely a game that turned some heads when it was announced, given that it's based around Pinnochio. Set in a city overrun by automatons, stylized as puppets, who have broken their safeguards and begun attacking people, Lies of P takes its themes and ideas from Pinnochio, along with some of its characters, but not necessarily its plot. In fact, the way it manages to weave this inspiration into the rest of the game is probably its most impressive narrative feat. This is particularly notable that the thing it's weaving these elements into is just a Dark Souls game. More so than any other game we've played, on- or off-air, this really feels like a FROM designed Souls game, or at least very close to it. The combat takes heavy cues from Sekiro and Bloodborne with the healing mechanics and stats from Dark Souls, you can tell the developers have been taking notes. And this can be both good and bad, because the game feels familiar and also very good to play most of the time, but it does also call attention to elements from the games (upgrade materials, consumable items, a prosthetic) that feel more or less necessary for this game specifically. It's a strange experience to some extent, but still a very good one if this style of game is something you already enjoyed. Is this game derivative? A little, for sure, but there is still some novelty to be found, particularly in its aesthetics. This and the combat mechanics that combine the weapon variety of Dark Souls (as well as a unique weapon recombination mechanic) with the satisfying defensive options of Sekiro, mean that as much as this makes you think about where its inspirations came from, as weird as the theme of the game is on its face, and as difficult as the game can be at times, it's still a very good time. We're going to be talking about the integration of the source material into the mechanical identity of the game, how auxiliary mechanics complicate the game both for good and for bad, and how they really should have just called the game Pinnochio. Thank you for listening this week! As you can probably tell, we've been doing a bit of a Soulslike run recently, which we'll be finishing up on pocket next time, but I think it's shown just how diverse this subgenre can be. Lies of P stands out less for its own identity but more for its devotion to the identity of the games that inspired it, and it's a complicated topic to discuss. Do you think this impressive adherence to FROM's catalog will be a positive change for these types of games going forward, normalizing the base gameplay and allowing for more diversity in how those mechanics are utilized and twisted to fit the game at hand, or do you think this is just one direction for the genre to go, with the other elements taking center stage as in games like Lunacid? Let us know in the comments or over on our Discord! Next time, we're going to be sprinting as far as we possibly can in the other direction and talking about Pentiment, so we hope you'll join us then.
