Greetings, I’m Brandon Ford, horror author extraordinaire, slasher movie aficionado, and card-carrying member of the visually impaired community. Join me on Blind Rage, a podcast where I orchestrate commentary tracks for the very best in slashers, schlock
The Blind Rage Podcast is making a splash with THE POOL a.k.a. SWIMMING POOL (2001), the rarely-seen slasher that dared to ask, “What if we trapped a bunch of rich, horny European teens in an Olympic-sized swimming pool and let a masked psycho go to town?” Oh, and did we mention a baby-faced James McAvoy is here to steal scenes (and maybe your heart)? Graduation should be a time for celebration, but for this group of private school brats, it's more of a bloodbath. Someone in a weird mask has a serious grudge, and they're taking their rage out with a variety of sharp objects. The body count rises, the plot makes… choices, and we question the decision to let this much chlorine mix with this much bad behavior.
Sharpen your puzzle skills and grab your art supplies, because this week on THE BLIND RAGE PODCAST, we're tackling JIGSAW (2002)—no, not that one. This isn't some sadistic game of survival with creepy dolls on tricycles. This is an ultra-low-budget slasher about an art class that bites off way more than it can chew when they're tasked with assembling a “jigsaw man” for their final project. Bad idea? Absolutely. But it gets worse. Once Frankenstein's discount cousin is complete, he decides to get creative…with murder. Heads roll (literally), the body count rises, and the acting is as questionable as the script, but does JIGSAW deserve a spot in the horror junkyard, or is it a weird little gem worth piecing together? We're diving in with our usual dose of blood, sarcasm, and dark humor to find out.
This week, we're taking aim at SERIAL SLAYER (a.k.a. CLAUSTROPHOBIA, 2003), a tense little thriller that proves broad daylight won't save you when there's a crossbow-wielding psycho perched on the roof. Three coworkers—Melanie Lynskey (before she was cool on YELLOWJACKETS), Sheeri Rappaport (CSI), and Mary Lynn Rajskub (24)—find themselves trapped in a house while a silent, unseen killer picks them off one by one. No phones, no way out, and no idea who's next. Horror fans, take note: Judith O'Dea (NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD) makes a cameo! Because if anyone knows how to handle relentless terror, it's her. Is this indie thriller a forgotten gem or just another early 2000s curiosity? Tune in as we break it down, discuss the kills, and decide if crossbows should be banned from horror movies forever.
Some coroners determine cause of death. This one just causes it. Ever wondered what happens when your friendly neighborhood coroner decides to moonlight as a serial killer? Well, wonder no more! THE CORONER (1999) follows defense attorney Emma (Jane Longenecker), who wakes up strapped to a table in the basement of the world's creepiest medical examiner (Dean St. Louis). Instead of filing paperwork, he spends his free time filleting unwilling guests. But Emma isn't going down without a fight—especially not at the hands of a man who treats human dissection like a fine art. This week on The Blind Rage Podcast, we slice open this late-'90s direct-to-video trainwreck, complete with baffling romantic subplots, a lead detective who might be the worst cop in cinematic history, and a villain who somehow makes funeral home directors look sexy by comparison. Is THE CORONER a criminally underrated horror flick, or should it be sentenced to life in the bargain bin? Only one way to find out.
Who's ready to rock…and die? This week on The Blind Rage Podcast, we're cranking up the volume and the body count with SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE II, the 1987 fever dream that asks, What if Freddy Krueger fronted a rockabilly band…and had a drill guitar? Courtney (Crystal Bernard) just wants a fun weekend with the girls, but her nightmares about a leather-clad psycho with an axe to grind (and a drill to kill) are about to get way too real. Featuring musical numbers, exploding zits, and enough power tool carnage to make Bob Vila sweat, this one's a must-listen!
It's Tony's birthday and we're celebrating with THE RIPPER, a movie Tom Savini would give just about anything to forget. What does Jack the Ripper have to do with birthdays? Well, nothing. Seems like there are so few horror movies focused on celebrating one's special day and we were sure as hell not taking the endurance test that is getting through all 110 minutes of HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME. Instead, we've decided to watch London's most famous serial killer slice and dice his way through…Tulsa, Oklahoma. Don't ask.
“Wait a minute… Who am I here?” THE STEPFATHER tells the story of a madman in search of the perfect all-American family. When they disappoint him, he brutally murders them and moves on to the next. Terry O'Quinn gives a fantastic performance in the titular role and, as always, it's a pleasure to see Jill Schoelen, this time playing the role of a troubled teenager, who suspects something simply isn't right the moment her new stepfather enters the family home.
Last week was an in-your-face rip-off of CARRIE. This week, it's an in-your-face rip-off of ROSEMARY'S BABY. WITCHCRAFT, the 1988 quickie that spawned a whopping 15 sequels (!), tells the story of a new mother, who moves into a creepy old estate owned by her husband's family. Soon after settling in with their newborn son, our heroin begins to notice something doesn't seem right—not with her in-laws, not with their mute butler, and not with the centuries-old place they call home. Is she simply paranoid, or are there truly dark forces at play? I think the answer is pretty damn obvious.
JENNIFER is not only one of the first CARRIE rip-offs, but it's one of the most obvious. The story follows a high school outcast, who is bullied mercilessly by the popular crowd. When Jennifer is pushed too far, she unleashes her supernatural powers to exact vengeance. Unlike Stephen King's Carrie, Jennifer possesses the power to control snakes, which she uses to slither after those who've wronged her. It's actually a lot better than it sounds.
This week, it's Charles Band's 1989 PUPPET MASTER, the dawn of a franchise that helped build Full Moon Features. With this being the first entry, our batch of antiheroes is relatively small, but they're still devious, murderous, and resourceful as hell. Join us as we watch them dispatch of a group of questionable characters spending the night at an oceanside hotel. The William Hickey cameo alone makes this one worthwhile.
What would you do if there was a vampire living next door to you…and he knows you know his secret? I may have inadvertently stolen that, or at least part of it, from the trailer. Nevertheless, that's the plot of FRIGHT NIGHT, probably the best vampire flick of the 1980s. Join us while we sink our teeth into this immortal cult classic!
“EAT A BOWL OF FUCK!” It's NIGHT OF THE DEMONS on this week's episode of The Blind Rage Podcast! This movie has always been very educational for me. It taught me what can happen when you decide to throw a Halloween party at a funeral home, which was once the scene of a pretty horrific mass murder; why you shouldn't hold seances on cursed property; and, last and most importantly, that you can hide a tube of lipstick just about anywhere.
“You will NEVER receive credit for my discovery. Who's gonna believe a talking head? Get a job in a sideshow.” We're elated to finally feature Stuart Gordon's RE-ANIMATOR on The Blind Rage Podcast! This cult classic tells the story of Herbert West (Jeffrey Combs), a medical student who has developed a serum that re-animates corpses. But, as we all know, no one is ever the same once they're brought back from the dead.
Murphy's Law hit hard on The Blind Rage Podcast because, yes, everything that could've gone wrong pretty much did. First and foremost, the subject of the episode, Matthew Bright's FREEWAY II: CONFESSIONS OF A TRICKBABY, is not only an incredibly inferior follow-up to his 1996 cult classic, it's a hell of a lot worse than I remember it being. In addition, technical difficulties prevented the recording from beginning on time, which made matters quite stressful, especially since we had a small window to get the episode in the can. As we're struggling to make it through this utter mess of a film, neighbors started loudly fighting, some of which was unavoidably recorded. There are often many challenges when it comes to completing episodes, which makes it hard for me to chuck them. So, FREEWAY II is presented for your listening pleasure, warts and all. You have been warned.
“I'm pissed off and the whole world owes me.” We're taking a look at one of the all-time best cult classics on this week's episode of The Blind Rage Podcast! In FREEWAY, Matthew Bright's delightfully twisted reinterpretation of “Little Red Riding Hood,” we're introduced to Vanessa Lutz (Reese Witherspoon in one of her best roles), a teenage felon from the wrong side of the tracks. After her mother (Amanda Plummer) is arrested for prostitution, Vanessa decides she's going to start over by relocating to her grandmother's trailer in upstate California. On the freeway, her car breaks down, but she is quickly rescued by Bob Woverton (Kiefer Sutherland), a social worker who aids troubled juveniles and portrays himself as her savior. After a long line of manipulative questions meant to let Vanessa drop her guard, Bob reveals his true identity. He is actually a razor-wielding predator known as The I-5 Killer, and his preferred victims are young girls just like Vanessa.
The Blind Rage Podcast is once again returning to the land down under for the 2000 slasher CUT, starring ‘80s teen icon Molly Ringwald and pop royalty Kylie Minogue. It's 1988 and during the making of a Z-grade horror movie, the actor playing the killer slaughters the director after being fired for his sheer ineptitude. He then sets his sights on the final girl, but she's able to escape. Twelve years later, a group of students decide to finish the film, which was abandoned after the behind-the-scenes butchery. Unfortunately, whenever a completion of the project is attempted, things come to an abrupt and gruesome end, as an unidentified killer picks off the cast and crew. Will the class of amateur filmmakers finally finish the cursed slice of celluloid, or will they meet the same fate as their predecessors?
The Blind Rage Podcast once again returns to the world of university elite with the 1986 cult classic KILLER PARTY! Phoebe, Jennifer, and Vivia are best friends and sorority pledges willing to do anything to join Sigma Alpha Pi, one of the most popular houses on campus. They endure paddlings, public humiliation, and endless pranks, though nothing prepares them for the horrors of an April Fool's Day masquerade party. The festivities are set for an abandoned frat house, where a fraternity pledge died during an initiation 20 years before. Unbeknownst to the partygoers, his demonic spirit still lingers. And he doesn't like visitors.
I don't think The Blind Rage Podcast has seen such blood and guts since Herschell Gordon Lewis month… This week, we're taking a look at James Riffel's THE HOUSE ON TOMBSTONE HILL, a hidden gem about a group of five twentysomethings who arrive at a massive estate in the middle of nowhere intending to fix it up. The moment they pass the threshold, they discover they've got their work cut out for them. Not only is the place in an extreme state of disrepair, there's a murderous old woman lurking the corridors. With echoes of THE EVIL DEAD and early Peter Jackson, TOMBSTONE HILL is a fun and ultra bloody good time that is sadly more overlooked than it is appreciated.
If ever there was a poster child for vasectomies, it's Mikey. This week, The Blind Rage Podcast takes a look at one of the more notorious offerings in horror's killer kid subgenre. MIKEY stars Brian Bonsall (“Family Ties”) as a child abused by his birth parents. Now, he's desperate to find the perfect maternal and paternal figures. When his adoptive family disappoints him. Mikey is left with no choice but to clean the slate and start again. A resourceful little psychopath, he utilizes implements like aluminum baseball bats, bows and arrows, and electrocution to eliminate his victims. Banned in the UK due to its violent content, MIKEY is one of the more controversial straight-to-video horror/thrillers of the early ‘90s.
“I don't think you're alone in this house… You should get out of there. Now.” For the second week of 2025, The Blind Rage Podcast takes a look at Fred Walton's sequel to his 1979 classic. In WHEN A STRANGER CALLS BACK, we're introduced to Julia (Jill Schoelen), a babysitter who is menaced by a voice on the other side of the door, as opposed to the other end of the phone. A man claims to have had a breakdown and requests aid. It isn't long, however, before Julia realizes just how dangerous this particular stranger actually is.
HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE BLIND RAGE PODCAST!!! We're kicking off 2025 with 1979's WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, a film which has been terrifying audiences for decades with it's portrayal of a babysitter (Carol Kane) who receives menacing phone calls from a psychopath who is a lot closer than she thinks. Though she manages to escape, he re-enters her life seven years later, now putting her new family in harm's way.
The Blind Rage Podcast is ending 2024, and DeCoteau DeCember, with a film that barely qualifies as such. BEASTLY BOYZ is an experiment in alternative filmmaking, though it doesn't veer from David's familiar style very far. Shot without sound, zero dialogue (we have only a slight bit of narration meant to let the viewer in on the intended story), and a plot that is so wafer-thin the script was a grand total of 9 pages, it's more an exercise in perseverance than anything else. BEASTLY BOYS may only clock 73 minutes of actual material, it feels at least three times as long. Within the first few frames, it's pretty clear that it's going to be an absolute chore to get through. Thankfully, there were some behind-the-scenes anecdotes to discuss (all of them more interesting than the movie itself) and a little bit of this and that to help us get through the episode without much pain.
The Blind Rage Podcast enters week four of DeCoteau DeCember with 2001's THE BROTHERHOOD, which was essentially the birth of David's in-your-face homoerotic horror productions. Set on the campus of Drake University, we meet Chris (Sam Paige), an all-American boy next door, who quickly hits it off with Devon (Bradley Stryker), leader of the school's most exclusive fraternity. Chris believes he's finally found a place he belongs, given the chance to participate in all the things he was deprived of during his high school years, with the school's elite to help him become acclimated. But there is something evil lurking behind Devon's charming smile and welcoming demeanor… Wishing everyone a very merry DeCoteau DeChristmas and don't forget to check back next week to see which of David's titles rounds out 2024!
It's week three of DeCoteau DeCember on The Blind Rage Podcast! For this installment, we're kicking back to watch one of David DeCoteau's many, many Full Moon features, 1999's WITCHOUSE. This micro budget quickie follows a group of post-adolescents, who receive an exclusive invitation to attend a party thrown by Elizabeth, a former classmate with a reputation for pulling bizarre pranks and harboring an unnatural interest in the occult. She has chosen each guest carefully, as their ancestors assisted in the demise of Lilith, a witch killed in a fiery blaze centuries before. Tonight, Lilith's demonic spirit has been resurrected…and the taste of revenge is fresh on her lips.
DeCoteau DeCember continues on The Blind Rage Podcast! For week two, we're taking a look at David DeCoteau's 1989 MURDER WEAPON, starring and co-produced by the legendary Linnea Quigley. This thinly-plotted quickie is probably the goriest of David's many films and truly showcases his desire to exploit hard-bodied men, who spend most of the movie running around in no more than Speedos and short shorts. MURDER WEAPON also carries a bit of cult cache for featuring SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT 2's Eric Freeman (credited here as Damon Charles), in his first feature post “Garbage day!”
It's DeCoteau DeCember on The Blind Rage Podcast! All month long, we're celebrating cult filmmaker David DeCoteau! The festivities kick off with 1988's NIGHTMARE SISTERS, starring the legendary Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, and Michelle Bauer. The trio of Scream Queens play nerdy sorority sisters who stumble upon a crystal ball, which inhabits the spirit of an evil psychic medium. After a few spells, incantations, and a little bibbity-bobbity-boo, the sisters go from geek to sheik, with a lust for…well, let's just say the male form.
The ELM STREET celebration comes to an end this week on The Blind Rage Podcast. Putting a bloody period (did I seriously just write that?) at the end of the sentence is DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR KIDS ARE?, an episode of FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES that aired midway through the second season. In the tradition of young adult thrillers of its time, the story focuses on Lisa, a high school student who reluctantly takes her best friend's babysitting job for a night. Her friend, who we'll call Horny Heidi, wants the weekend off so she can get it in with Kurt, one of Springwood High's most popular football players. Her mind so focused on satisfying those carnal cravings, Horny Heidi neglects to inform Lisa about Patty, the family's oldest daughter, who they have locked in the basement. Patty is known for her violent and murderous tendencies, so Lisa is never, under any circumstances, to open the basement door. Instead of getting the hell out of there, as any sane, rational person would, she… Well, do I even have to finish that sentence?
The 40th anniversary celebration of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET continues on The Blind Rage Podcast! For our third venture to Springwood, we're having a look at DREAM COME TRUE, which kicked off the second season of FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES. A dream therapist takes the stage of a local talk show to hawk his new book when he meets an audience member in desperate need of his help. She's a young mother whose son's dreams are haunted by Freddy Krueger (where have I heard that before?). At the behest of the show's host, the doctor reluctantly agrees to help the adolescent find a way to sleep peacefully. In so doing, he unleashes Freddy's wrath and soon, the good doctor finds himself tormented by a few nightmares of his own…
The Blind Rage Podcast continues the 40th anniversary celebration of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET with SAFE SEX, which closed the first season of FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES. Written by Splatterpunk essential David J. Schow (THE HILLS RUN RED, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III), this sleazy tale focuses on a pair of high school boys with only one thing on their minds: sex. And a girl with only one thing on hers: Freddy Krueger. We're treated to some truly bizarre dream sequences featuring a little mild S&M, spinning the Wheel of Misfortune, and a car with a mind of its own. So, stock up on some Trojans. It's time for a little SAFE SEX.
This month, The Blind Rage Podcast is celebrating the 40th anniversary of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET with back-to-back episodes of FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES! Kicking off the festivities is DO DREAMS BLEED?, a high school love story intertwined with a series of axe murders. John, a star quarterback, dreams of the killings committed by a maniac dubbed The Chopper. These dreams turn his world upside down when they become a permanent fixture. Soon, it is believed he is actually the one wielding the axe. Is John truly to blame, or is someone else stalking the suburban streets of Springwood? Someone John knows quite well…
The Blind Rage Podcast is closing out Herschell Gordon Lewis month with 2009's THE UH-OH! SHOW, a horror comedy centered around a game show where you don't just lose…you lose a limb. Contains one of the last on-screen appearances of Brooke McArtur (THE LOST BOYS) before his untimely passing in 2015.
Behold! Montag the Magnificent is going to dazzle the eyes with a trick never before seen! He's going to saw a woman in half…only this woman isn't tucked neatly in a box…and he's going to use an actual running chainsaw. It's week three of Herschell Gordon Lewis month on The Blind Rage Podcast! This time, we're taking a look at the original 1970 splatterfest THE WIZARD OF GORE, the story of a magician/illusionist who butchers women live on stage. But is what the audience sees truly real?
Herschell Gordon Lewis month continues on The Blind Rage Podcast! For week two, we're taking a look at 1965's COLOR ME BLOOD RED, the story of Adam Sorg, a struggling artist, who finds it impossible to locate the perfect shade of red. That is, of course, until his girlfriend cuts her finger open and a lightbulb goes off. Adam's paintings gain the attention of a respected art dealer and he is encouraged to create more. Only trouble is…where is he going to find that perfect shade?
YEEEEEEEEE-HAW!!! The Blind Rage Podcast is celebrating the month of October with horror icon Herschell Gordon Lewis! Kicking things off is TWO THOUSAND MANIACS, a film that has been delighting genre devotees with its over-the-top gore and off-brand of delinquent humor the past 60 years! The small Southern town of Pleasant Valley is holding a very special ceremony…err…I mean celebration. There'll be food, music, games, and a bloodbath of epic proportions. The residents of this little town have been waiting 100 years to exact vengeance on those who've wronged them and they'll make sure the opportunity is properly seized.
“We're almost not even related anymore…” Fall is upon us and The Blind Rage Podcast is wrapping up A September of School Scares with John Fawcett's 2000 cult classic GINGER SNAPS! Sisters Ginger and Bridgitte (Katherine Isabelle and Emily Perkins) are teenage outcasts. On the night of a full moon, they encounter something that furthers their inclusion among their peers. Ginger is brutally attacked by an otherworldly figure and soon notices she's changing. The wounds she suffered—wounds that should be life-threatening—are already healing. Hair sprouts in the most unusual places. A tail extends from her lower back. At a time when Ginger should be transitioning from a girl to a woman, she's transitioning into something else entirely. Something very, very deadly.
A September of School Scares is rapidly coming to an end here on The Blind Rage Podcast. For the penultimate episode, we're taking a look at Katt Shea's severely, disgracefully, criminally underrated THE RAGE: CARRIE 2. In this sequel to Brian DePalma's immortal classic, we're introduced to Rachel Lange (Emily Bergl), a high school outcast whose world is shattered when her best and only friend (Mena Suvari) commits suicide after being dumped by a popular boy (“Home Improvement” star Zachary Ty Bryan). We learn that members of the football team are having casual encounters with female students, then quickly tossing them aside. To make matters more unseemly, they keep a notebook, where the girls are judged on their looks, as well as sexual performance. What they don't know is that Rachel, much like her half-sister, holds telekinetic powers, and the prank they have planned is about to go very, very wrong.
The Blind Rage Podcast carries on A September of School Scares with PLEDGE NIGHT, a late ‘80s oddity exposing the real life horrors of fraternity hazing. Well, sort of. While penning the script, Joyce Snyder visited fraternities to investigate what members of the university elite were forced to endure before being offered the golden ticket. Many of these rituals were incorporated into the story, along with a bizarre subplot centered around a prank gone horribly wrong. Killed in 1969, Acid Sid returns to the scene of the crime to wreak bloody vengeance, even though no one currently occupying the house had anything to do with his death. Spewing corny one-liners, most of them phrases found on bumper stickers in the 1960s, he dispatches victims by lighting a cherry bomb forced into a brother's anus, strangling another with his own intestines, and wielding…an eggbeater. It's bad on multiple levels, yet somehow watchable. Perhaps the many homoerotic overtones had something to do with it…
The school scares are far from over here on The Blind Rage Podcast! This week, we take a look at THE HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW, a fairly paint-by-numbers slasher involving an innocent prank gone wrong, leaving a dead body in its wake. As always, our ensemble (this time, a group of seven sorority sisters) decide to conceal the crime instead of calling for aid. But someone's seen… Someone knows… Someone who'll make sure this sorority's members are quickly and violently dispatched.
It's back-to-school month on The Blind Rage Podcast! Kicking things off is MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH, an experiment in ‘70s exploitation notorious for waiting until the last scene to show any adults (teachers, parents) and for being an undeniable inspiration for the 1989 cult classic HEATHERS. When David (Derrel Maury) transfers to Central High at the insistence of an old friend (Andrew Stevens), he discovers that the school is under a dictatorship led by the three richest, most popular students. Bored of seeing his fellow classmates ordered around and tormented, David decides to take matters into his own hands, dispatching of the school's leaders in grisly fashion. Almost immediately, those once considered underlings begin acting out in ways similar, if not worse, than those they've escaped. David decides there is only one thing he can do to finally set things right…
The Blind Rage Podcast is using a sticky hand to wave a fond farewell to Sleazy ‘70s month. With its graphic depictions of violence and sexual assault, Wes Craven's original 1972 THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT outraged a nation. Surprisingly, Roger Ebert, a man known for being incredibly vocal about his revulsion for all things horror, gave the film a near-perfect score in his original review. Though condemned by many, the film went on to become a cult classic, inspiring endless copy cats, as well as an official (2009) and an unofficial (David DeFalco's CHAOS) remake, both of which have been featured on past episodes of the podcast.
“Dying's easy. It's over in a second. This hurts worse…” The Blind Rage Podcast is keeping it sleazy with the original 1978 cult classic THE TOOLBOX MURDERS! A series of brutal killings are committed at a small Californian apartment complex, all of them carried out by way of implements found in an average toolbox. The killer appears to be targeting young, attractive women in their twenties, but things take a turn when Laurie Ballard (Pamelyn Ferdin), a 15-year-old high school student, is abducted by the masked assailant. The intensely graphic nail gun scene, as well as Stephen King's fandom for the film, has not only helped the low-budget endeavor acquire cult status, but has kept horror fans interested nearly 45 years later.
“Suck it, bitch.” The Blind Rage Podcast continues Sleazy ‘70s month with Meir Zarchi's original 1978 cult classic I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, a film so notorious that it not only spawned its own subgenre, but inspired dozens of copycats over the past 40+ years. Jennifer Hills, a New York City native, rents a cabin in the remote wilderness of Kent, Connecticut. There, she plans to spend the summer months crafting her first novel. Almost immediately, she is accosted by four ne'er-do-wells, who decide they're going to spend the afternoon brutalizing her for their own sadistic pleasure. But Jennifer is no shrinking violet. After recovering from multiple assaults, she retaliates with some of the most iconic revenge sequences ever put to celluloid. A simple, but effective plot that continues to stand the test of time.
A lost brother. A satanic cult. A Party City Halloween costume including a pair of cheap vampire teeth. Oh, and a large chalice filled to the brim with clumpy, discolored seminal fluids. It's Sleazy ‘70s Month on the Blind Rage Podcast and we're kicking things off with one of Tom DeSimone's earliest foray's into the world of adult cinema: 1973's SONS OF SATAN. To say it's unpolished would be putting it mildly. It's damn near unwatchable. And if it weren't for all the sodomy, it would be a perfect selection for MST3K.
This week, The Blind Rage Podcast takes a look at SHALLOW GRAVE, a straight-to-video quickie that, up until a few years back, was available exclusively on a long out-of-print VHS. Vinegar Syndrome has since found the original 35mm negative and gave this rarity the Blu-ray star treatment. But was it worth the effort? Ehh… SHALLOW GRAVE is the story of four friends known for causing trouble at their private Catholic girls school. After a prank, which leads them in hot water with their head mistress, they set off to spend their spring break vacation in Fort Lauderdale. They, of course, have a breakdown, which leaves them stranded on a desolate road. One cliché leads to another and they end up witnessing a backwoods murder. Unfortunately for them, the killer happens to be the small town's sheriff. Once he realizes they know his secret, they come to find just how far he's willing to go to cover his tracks.
“I'm so horny I could fuck a cow.” Things are going from strange to downright bizarre on this week's episode of The Blind Rage Podcast, as we take a look at Jackie Kong's 1987 horror-comedy BLOOD DINER! As children, brothers Michael and George witness the brutal death of their doting Uncle Anwar. 20 years later, they're running a popular Hollywood diner, which serves exclusively vegetarian cuisine. Or so their clientele believes. Using one of Anwar's many absurd rituals, Michael and George are able to resurrect their favorite uncle, only now, he's a talking brain in a jar. With eyeballs. Following Anwar's instructions to the letter, the brothers begin butchering and dismembering the city's most immoral women, using their body parts to bring to life the ancient Egyptian goddess Shetar. Following the blood trail, some local detectives are on the case. Unfortunately for Hollywood's dwindling population, these guys are closer to Inspector Gadget than they are Hercule Poirot.
“Want a date? Going out? Lookin' for some action?” On this week's titillating episode of The Blind Rage Podcast, it's Frank Henenlotter's terrifying tale of sluts and bolts, the one and only FRANKENHOOKER! After a freak mishap with an out-of-control lawnmower, Jeffrey Franken's (James Lorinz) fiancée (Patty Mullen) is eaten by the maniacally spinning blades. Only a few pieces of her remain: an arm, a foot, and, of course, her head. Unable to accept the loss, Jeffrey concocts an elaborate plan to resurrect her, using the dismembered limbs of New York City streetwalkers to fill in the blanks. Oh, and did I mention there's supercrack? FRANKENHOOKER is a hilarious and wildly entertaining dark comedy that remains a cult favorite, even close to 35 years later. I'm very happy to finally feature it on the podcast.
The Blind Rage Podcast is ringing in the second week of July with Jim Hoskings' absurdist horror-comedy THE GREASY STRANGLER, one of the most insane films we've covered so far. Meet Big Braden, a middle-aged incel, who shares a filthy, mold-coated dwelling with his eccentric father Big Ronny. Together, they conduct disco walking tours, telling fabricated tales of the biggest acts of the ‘70s. It is on one such tour that Braden crosses paths with Janet. An explosive—and extraordinarily awkward—love affair immediately ensues. Creating a rift in the lovers' newfound bliss is the jealous and overbearing Big Ronny, not to mention a naked, grease-coated psychopath stalking the streets under the cover of night. Dubbed The Greasy Strangler, the menace attacks at random, collecting a host of mutilated bodies during his multiple wraths. Things take an nasty turn when Braden begins to suspect Big Ronny could quite possibly be The Greasy Strangler…
“Can you contract an STD by having sex with a dead person?” The Blind Rage Podcast kicks off this month with Richard Bates, Jr.'s EXCISION, a film destined to be a cult classic. Meet Pauline (AnnaLynne McCord), a high school outcast who aspires to one day become a surgeon. While most who plan for a career in medicine spend their days studying the human body, Pauline believes her understanding of the subject is far superior than anything found in necessary textbooks. She instead fills her days engaged in pseudo psychological counseling with a local priest (John Waters), isolating herself from her classmates by acting out in a plethora of reprehensible antics, and praying to a God she isn't sure exists. With strong performances by McCord, as well as Traci Lords, who plays Pauline's overbearing mother, EXCISION is a breath of fresh air, especially in times like these, when most filmmaking is more copy and paste than innovation or originality. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blindragepod/message
Again, The Blind Rage Podcast says good-bye to one of horror's most iconic voices, as Stephen King Month 2.0 comes to an end. With this fond farewell, we'll be discussing A GOOD MARRIAGE, a seemingly overlooked adaptation of a novella, which appeared in the 2010 collection FULL DARK, NO STARS. Heavily inspired by the BTK case, Joan Allen stars as Darcy, an ordinary suburban housewife, who discovers that her husband of 25 years is a sadistic killer, preying on women long before their paths even crossed. With his ability to read her better than anyone, Bob (Anthony LaPaglia) immediately knows she's stumbled upon his secret. However, rather than killing her to keep that secret safe, Bob tells her that she can go to the authorities if she so desires, he'll do nothing to stand in her way. But this revelation will not only ruin her life, as no one will believe Darcy hadn't known of his crimes, but it will also ruin the lives of their adult children, whose perception of their kind and loving father will be forever shattered. That was a far too long and clunky sentence, but then again, I'm no Stephen King. Clearly. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blindragepod/message
Summer's only a few days away and The Blind Rage Podcast is celebrating the hottest time of year with another Stephen King adaptation! In 1985's CAT'S EYE, we're introduced to an adorable little tabby, who journeys from place to place in search of something unknown. Between ventures, he finds himself in the midst of some rather unusual circumstances. First, we have a father (James Woods) who decides to quit smoking via an agency whose methods are highly unorthodox. Next, we're in Atlantic City, where a wealthy gambler discovers his wife is having an affair with a young tennis pro and decides to solve matters by placing a bet with her new love interest. Lastly, we're in the suburbs of a small town, where a little girl (Drew Barrymore) claims she's being menaced by an evil troll who lives in her bedroom wall. The only one who can stop him is our sweet tabby, who she quickly adopts and names General, as she's certain he'll be her protector. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blindragepod/message
Stephen King Month 2.0 continues on The Blind Rage Podcast! A young Matthew Lawrence stars as Timmy, a neighborhood kid who's been abducted by a suburban housewife (Harry), who just happens to be a witch. And a cannibal with a taste for children. The only way Timmy can prevent her from cooking and eating him is by reading her stories from a massive tome, which holds dozens of twisted yarns.
