We're back from ITHACON, but we mustn't dwell, no, not today! We can't! Not on Rex Manning Day! We're rewinding to 1995 at the height of the record store boom. Directed by Allan Moyle and written by Carol Heikkinen, with an ensemble cast including Anthony LaPaglia, Maxwell Caulfield, Debi Mazar, Rory Cochrane, Johnny Whitworth, Robin Tunney, Renée Zellweger, and Liv Tyler, this comedy follows a group of record store employees through a wild twenty-four hours on that particular April 8th. Unfortunately, the film bombed spectacularly at the box office and was panned by critics at the time of release, but its eclectic soundtrack and stacked cast of future stars have made it into something of a cult favorite in the intervening years. But is this flick really The Breakfast Club for Elder Millennials, or does Empire Records belong in the bargain bin? Les, Kurt, and Jason return to the Netflix holiday well again after last week's episode, this time for a look at The Merry Gentlemen. But first, Kurt has some Blac Chyna news about Tokyo Toni defending Puff Daddy seemingly only because the allegations against him are… not new. Then, the guys head to the The Rhythm Room to check out The Merry Gentlemen starring Chad Michael Murray, Britt Robertson, friend of the pod Meredith Thomas, Michael Gross, Beth Broderick, Marla Sokolof, and Maxwell Caulfield trying to navigate the insurance risks posed by a dancer with vertigo and stripper with a scalpel they way Meredith navigated a relationship with the guy that played Carla's husband on Cheers. Get ready to be blown away by elaborate bar graphs taped to a chalkboard as Kurt writes a supplemental Emmy-worthy scene for Meredith. Kyle, Joe, and Rick welcome a special guest to review Grease 2. Directed by Patricia Birch, the film stars Maxwell Caulfield, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher McDonald, and Adrian Zmed. We ranked 12 of the songs from the soundtrack, as well as picked our favorite lines, characters, performers, and scenes. Enjoy!
Javi and Paul descend into the labyrinth of the Dada-ist haiku that is GREASE 2 and ponder the imponderable. Is Rydell High actually haunted by ghosts as Javi theorizes, and is this somehow also a stealth remake of Richard Donner's Superman? Could anyone other than the transcendent Michelle Pfeiffer have possibly pulled off her scenes, and holy crap is that teenage Pamela Adlon? Will either of our co-hosts emerge with their sanity intact? Tune in to find out — if you dare! — in our most deliriously deranged episode yet.

Brendan's mentor and dear personal friend Ronny Maxwell makes a big blue-gray splash in 1993's Gettysburg: the story of the pivotal American Civil War battle and the various monologues and wistful bittersweet remembrances that changed a nation. Ronny gives the war a grandeur steeped in myth and Lost Cause attitudes (though nowhere near its embarrassing sequel Gods and Generals) and some of the most careless beard-work in recent memory. Jason monologues, Brendan listens and in the end, they both die valiantly in the service of different dreams (Editors Note: they do not die). Next week: Eastwood drills! Questions? Comments? Your Stupid Minds covers a movie that may not exist, except in the deepest, darkest dollar bins of the seediest Walmarts of the world. It's the David DeCoteau Punisher-lite tale Prey of the Jaguar (1996) starring Maxwell Caulfield, Stacy Keach, and Linda Blair. Damien Bandera (Trevor Goddard, a.k.a. Kano in the original Mortal Kombat movie) is a drug kingpin who's just been busted out of prison by his compatriots. Or is his name Banderas? He's referred to as both in this movie. Derek Leigh (Caulfield) is a regular 90s dad with a mustache who, for a 96 minute movie, spends a LOT of time in the first act with his loving pregnant wife and precocious son for them to not be fridged. His son Jeremy (Devon Michael) shows his dad the completely novel superhero he's invented that has no ties to any existing intellectual property: The Jaguar! Derek is visited by The Commander (Stacy Keach), his former boss at a secret espionage organization sporting a turtleneck, ponytail, and George H.W. Bush glasses. The Commander warns him that Bandera/Banderas, the guy he put away in an undercover operation, is out. Derek acknowledges his family may be in danger, and then goes to work. Bandera/s shows up where he works, shoots him, and throws him off a building. And mentions that he killed his entire family. Three hours later, after he's processed all of his grief, Derek decides to kit himself out and become a super karate vigilante named the Jaguar, fashioned after his son's superhero. Will he fulfill his revenge? Was the Commander REALLY killed off screen in that car crash? Will there be a talking cat?! You'll have to listen to find out.
We're going back...back...back to sequels this week with the cult classic dud, "Grease 2"! It's off-kilter and amusing for about 45 minutes, and then it really goes into a ditch, but in the meantime we get Didi Conn, Lorna Luft, Eve Arden, Dodie Goodman, Adrian Zmed, Peter Frechette and of course, Michelle Pfeiffer as Stephanie, who's a total ketchup abuser and maybe kind of a jerk, and Maxwell Caulfield as the impossibly hot nerd Michael. This movie may be no cool rider, and we're not necessarily prowlin' to see it again, but who knows, maybe love will turn back the hand of time. Empire Records is a 1995 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed by Allan Moyle, starring Anthony LaPaglia, Maxwell Caulfield, Debi Mazar, Rory Cochrane, Johnny Whitworth, Robin Tunney, Renée Zellweger, and Liv Tyler. The film follows a group of record store employees over the course of one exceptional day. The employees try to stop the store from being sold to a large chain, and learn about each other along the way. It went on to become a cult hit, and several of its stars launched successful careers. Celebrated annually on April 8, Rex Manning Day commemorates the day that washed-up 1980s pop idol Rex Manning (played by Maxwell Caulfield) visited the fictional Empire Records. An Internet meme among the film's fans celebrates "Rex Manning Day" on April 8, the date Rex appears at Empire Records in the film. #RexManningDay is a recurring trending hashtag on Twitter. GIFs commemorating the event show Embry's character bounding down the stairs from the store's loft, declaring "Not on Rex Manning Day!!" Teenage Killers as our theme. "The Boys Next Door" (1985) is the story about two outcasts who take a deadly road trip the day after they graduate from high school. The two leads, played by Maxwell Caulfield and Charlie Sheen, are good in a predictable story that doesn't carry the punch our second film has. Gus Van Sant's "Elephant" (2003) is based school shootings at Columbine. An unusual film to say the least, it takes it's time to set everything up for a terrifying ending, but that's what makes it so good. Next time, Ben Gazzara is our theme with "Saint Jack" (1979) and "The Spanish Prisoner" (1997). Have your own recommendations? Contact the show:24theroadshow@gmail.com

Grease 2 was a 1982 musical romantic comedy, directed by Patricia Birch and starring Maxwell Caulfield, Michelle Pfeiffer, Adrian Zmed, and various others. It posited itself as a sequel to the hit 1978 film Grease, which itself was based on a 1971 musical of the same name. This new film followed a new cast (With a few scattered returning roles) and featured a setting taking two years after the original Grease's timeline. (Moving the action from 1959 to 1961.) Though the film maintains a modern cult following, and would prove to be a breakout film for Pfeiffer, Zmed, and actor Christopher MacDonald, it received negative reviews upon release and performed tepidly at the box office. On a new episode of Hell Is A Musical, Lilz and Scott sit down with return guest David Allen Prescott for a screening of Grease 2. There are a group of individuals out there who will tell you that "Grease 2" is the better of the films in the "Grease" series. Those people may be very nice and are certainly entitled to their opinion. They are also, we believe, not correct. Let's discuss.

How do you follow up one of the most successful musicals in modern memory? How about you cast relative unknowns in lead roles and get them started with a 1/2 finished script that makes ZERO sense, and only just barely connects to its source material? YES, THIS MOVIE IS GOD AWFUL...but it has earned its cult status over the past almost forty years...so join us as Ashley introduces Katie to a beloved childhood favorite, and the final entry in our SEQUEL SENSATION theme -- 1982's Grease 2. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer in her first leading role, this film picks up two years after Olivia Newton John and John Travolta hand jived their way through Rydell High -- focusing on our NEW CLASS of Pink Ladies and T-Birds. Michelle plays Stephanie, the leader of the Pink Ladies who is just so OVER dating T-Birds and is looking for a new man...a "cool rider". Enter new kid in town, Michael Carrington (played by Maxwell Caulfield, aka REX MANNING) -- Australian Sandy's cousin from the original film, although he is inexplicably British. He sets his sights on winning Stephanie's heart by learning everything there is to learn about motorcyclin' - and takes on a secret persona as said "cool rider". This film then gets nuts with wacky songs (hello, even if you hate this film, the song "Reproduction" is a must) insane dance numbers, and an almost 2 hour runtime. We also discuss how this film affected Ashley's entire fashion aesthetic all throughout her life, the gang's favorite musicals, a new mini-Let Me Introduce You, and a preview of our SEASON FINALE in 2 weeks. So put on your motorcycle hat and enjoy one of our more divisive episodes - 'cuz come on, we've got a rep to protect! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Welcome back to a brand-new episode of Not a Bomb Podcast. This is the podcast where we reexamine some of the most notorious box office flops or critically panned films and see if they deserve a second chance. Spousal picks continue in February as Troy's wonderful wife, Tabitha, not only picks the film but joins the discussion on 1982's musical/comedy - Grease 2. Adding to the madness is our great friend, Sammy from the GGMTC.Differing opinions are all over this episode. Troy and Brad are clearly not huge fans of this cult favorite while Tabitha and Sammy have apparently joined a cult based on Grease 2. Listen as Brad talks about his sexual awakenings, Troy fights with his wife and dog, and Sammy gets a lesson on reproduction. In this episode we're taking a look at Dazzle, a 1999 movie that was re-released as The Fairy Princess: The Secret of the Crystal in an attempt to trick unsuspecting viewers into thinking that this movie 1. Featured a Fairy Princess and 2. Had some kinda mystery to solve involving a crystal. As it turns out, this movie has neither of those things, but it does have Maxwell Caulfield in a non-Grease 2 role (Which was a selling point for me at least!). Join us as we discuss dated 90s era "jokes", bad wigs, disastrous school plays, and much more!
Share a special brownie with your favorite 90s boyfriend Ethan Embry because it's time for us to celebrate Rex Manning Day, aka Allan Moyle's Empire Records. Did you know there was an alternate universe edit of this movie that actually explains everyone's motivations? Why were the 90s so lily white? What happened to the dog from the movie poster? And can we ever look at blue cheese the same way again? This is the episode where all agree Renée Zellweger is a better friend—and actor—than Liv Tyler.Read Randall's full episode notes at yourenofun.com.And follow us on Instagram and Twitter.
On this week's show, we're a-wop-bop-a-loo-bopping our way through 1982's Grease 2! How come nobody recognizes this Cool Rider guy? Where does Frenchie disappear to? Whatever happened to Maxwell Caulfield, anyway? And why is this movie so flat and lifeless? All this, plus peeing on rabbits and some major Michelle Pfeiffer adoration. Grease 2 is directed by Patricia Birch, and stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Maxwell Caulfield, Christopher McDonald, Lorna Luft, Maureen Teefy, Didi Conn, Adrian Zmed, Peter Frechette and Pamela Segall. No Greaser hiding his summer love from the other students at Rydell High. No, this time we have bookworm Maxwell Caulfield as Michael Carrington in pursuit of Michelle Pfeiffer as Stephanie Zinone the leader of the Pink Ladys, who relucatanly lives by the T-Birds code: you date a T-Bird, or you date NOBODY. It's April, which means it's Listeners' Choice Month with movies chosen by YOU! First up, we have Allan Moyle's 1995 tribute to the life of the indie record store retailer Empire Records, carefully curated by Patreon supporter Shannon Sprout! (Wave to everyone, Shannon!) Empire Records is loaded with stars on the rise (Liv Tyler, Robin Tunney, Ethan Embry, Rory Cochrane), some about to level up (Renée Zellweger), and some veterans (Maxwell Caulfield, Anthony LaPaglia, Debi Mazar) peppered in for old people. But the REAL star of the movie is an AMAZING soundtrack, most of which is included in the Spotify playlist listed below: Empire Records on Spotify! Enjoy! A fun, fast-paced comedy following a day in the life of a group of record store employees. The film was a bomb at the box-office when it was first released, but now has a loyal cult following. Featuring Renee Zellweger and Liv Tyler in early film roles. Also starring Anthony LaPaglia, Maxwell Caulfield, Rory Cochrane, Robin Tunney, and Ethan Embry.
We take a realistic look into the unrealistic world of romantic comedies that we LOVE to hate. This Week - Grease 2 (1982) Starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Maxwell Caulfield, and Lorna Luft A wonderful movie where there is more music than dialogue. We ask the tough questions, this week: What are we being punished for? Is Michael Man, or Motorcycle? Speaking of Michael, is he overcharging for homework help? Listen to the podcast - then watch the movie or vice versa! But stay home, please. What do you need to go out for? Maybe groceries? Then go back home. Stay home. No need to go out. Today's movie asks a question many sci-fi fans have pondered: What would happen if a computer fell in love with your neighbor? Electric Dreams, released July 20th in 1984, does it's best to answer that question! Expect corny dialogue, strange plot choices, and an incredible soundtrack. Got feedback? You want to know what crazy is? Crazy is a film where Michelle Pfeiffer is almost outdone by Lorna Luft. When hearing Tab Hunter sing about pollinating stamens starts to makes sense to you, you know you’ve been watching GREASE 2 for too long. Some actresses' careers might have burned to ash on the pyre of this kind of camp (which is even more nonsensical than the first movie) but young Michelle emerged from it like a phoenix and became a star. The same cannot be said of her co-lead Maxwell Caulfield: the blond heart throb failed to initiate a second British invasion, but DAMN, is he nice to look at!! Part 3 of 3 Clips from the film presented according to fair use policy. Podcast Theme: "Pipeline" by CyberSDF (https://soundcloud.com/cybersdf/tracks).

Documentary filmmaker Jeffrey Schwarz returns to the podcast to discuss is new film "The Fabulous Allan Carr" about the legendary, larger-than-life producer of Grease, Can't Stop the Music, the Broadway musical La Cage Aux Folles and the 1989 Oscars where Rob Lowe sang "Proud Mary" with Snow White. Jeffrey talks about what drew him to Carr as a film subject, Allan's crazy, drug-fueled parties, his passion for making and remaking stars like Marlo Thomas and Ann-Margaret, how Allan helped "The Deer Hunter" win Best Picture, Allan's mega-success with "Grease" and how he hogged the credit for its success. Jeffrey also discusses Allan's struggle with his weight and penchant for wearing caftans. Jeffrey also answers Dennis's burning question: Why on earth was Bounty lady Nancy Walker chosen to direct "Can't Stop the Music" when she had never directed a movie before? Jeffrey talks about the tricky process of landing interviews, Maxwell Caulfield's off-the-chart hotness, the opening of "La Cage Aux Folles" on Broadway at the dawn of the AIDS crisis and the qualities of each of his doc subjects that he tried to incorporate into his own life. Other topics include: the voicemail he got from a "Can't Stop the Music" star, why he learned to type at 9, being on John Water's Christmas card list, connecting with HBO and Sheila Nevins, winning a Emmy and "What flannel would Jack Wrangler wear?" http://www.allancarrmovie.com/ http://www.jeffrey-schwarz.com/
Hollywood and computers have always been a bit of an issue in the 80's. Electric Dreams is no different. Although inventive on how technology was used it was completely by accident. Bud Cort as the computers voice is a big plus and saves the film.
The cool riders themselves, Allen and Chris turn back the hands of time and discuss notorious flop Grease 2. The original Grease has become a classic, rediscovered by every generation while the songs from the soundtrack are burned into the pop culture consciousness. Grease 2 is the film that made Maxwell Caulfield the star he is today. However this much maligned sequel has been garnering a cult of late, has history been kind to Grease 2 or is it better forgotten? We talk about Michelle Pfeiffer in her first big role (as head Pink Lady, Stephanie), Christopher McDonald's agelessness, the dodgy sexual politics of the T Birds and we answer the question that has plagued man since the dawn of time....

Movie Meltdown - Episode 115 This week we return to a bygone era - way back in the early 90’s. Back when sci fi “classics” like Alien Intruder were released straight to a format called VHS. Plus a hilarious One from the Vaults memory from Billy Dee that involves pigs. Yes, that’s right - pigs. And we inflict “Little Red Riding Hood” on another member of the cast. All that and…Shameless, The Thing, Elaine Irwin, cerebral vs. gore, talkin’ smack about Jon Cryer, Space Madness, loving the girl that has something wrong with them, Arrested Development, knock-off Casablanca, crazy Jeff Conaway, emits shower of sparks, pedophiles can blame fairy tales, space malt liquor, gritty violent movies, a puppet cat?, PVC - in space!, ST:TNG holodeck, it’ll be a piece of space cake, Phantom of the Opera, stripping under-age girls, shooting a film on a shoestring budget, Lobot is not in this movie!, you haven’t seen that yet?!, Steam punk - in space!, virtual unattractive women, Moon, the worst father - ever, Clerks and developing a vicious crush on Emmy. Spoiler Alert: If you haven’t seen Alien Intruder yet, consider yourself lucky. But keep in mind, we’re totally going to spoil it. “If you can’t afford a good set - go with bad lighting.”
