Paul Walker, Steve Zahn, Leelee Sobieski, a cross-country road trip, and a CB-radio prank. What could go wrong? This movie attempts to answer that question. Or perhaps, this movie IS an answer to that question. I guess it depends on whether we know what a movie is.

We've done volcano movies in DISASTER MOVIE MONTH so why not do asteroid movies now? Well that's exactly what we're going to do by kicking it off with the 1998 movie that is Deep Impact! Why are Ben and Colin once again divided on this film as to which one they like over it's rival. What do we think of the stacked cast of this film, even though they are maybe more famous for their time? What about the actors in this film who went on to bigger things? Why have we accidently gotten into Richard Schiff month? Do we wish there was more action in this film and city destruction or is it used enough? How great is Morgan Freeman as the President? Do we love Tea Leoni as the leading woman? What do we feel about Elijah Wood and Leelee Sobieski? Do we care about the space stuff? Do the special effects hold up in this film? Why does everyone still go on with their regular lives even when the world is about to end? Why is there just a random baby all of a sudden at some point? Why are children allowed to survive but old people not? And should this movie get more love after all these years? Blow yourself up and get into the lottery for another massive episode! ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

"Don't screw with people you don't know."We're taking you back to the days of CB radios and when Paul Walker was our leading man (and Leelee Sobieski was the leading lady, even…) My, oh my, was 2001 a different time, and did we love it or what? That's right gory goats, we're covering John Dahl's road-trip black horror-thriller, JOY RIDE, and we're here to remind you that it still slaps and it slaps hard! It's got comedy, thrills, double the “schmazz” (that's what Alex calls man-butt), tense cornfield chase scenes, suspense, dirty motels, and prank phone calls that would make Ghostface smile. Tune in now as we talk all of the above, as well as our own experiences with troubled sibs, what it was like to be alive during the “prehistoric internet” era, and even… jail? *gasp* Episode 39 delivers! We're back next week with WAR OF THE WORLDS (2005) — our first alien invasion / Tom Cruise combo! Thanks for listening, and don't forget, any feedback is good feedback so feel free to drop us a review over on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to us! - TGG

“Candy Cane? Hey anybody know a Candy Cane?” We watched “Joy Ride” (2001) with the hilarious Michael Morgan and we're still brushing up on our CB lingo.  This little gem of a movie from 2001 fits nicely into that category of unintentionally homoerotic films from the early aughts.  Obviously, Paul Walker (RIP) is serving your friendly neighborhood Abercrombie & Fitch employee that stood outside the store, possibly shirtless, definitely way too hot to ever speak to in person, but we would be remiss to leave out or guy Steve Zahn.  All three of us have in our notes how cute Steve Zahn is in this movie - even with his dad-chic tucked in shirts and light washed, relaxed fit denim. We buy them as estranged brothers on a road trip to pick up Lewis's (Paul Walker) crush? Girlfriend? FWB? Whoever she is her name is “Venna” and she's played by the stoic - and since retired -  Leelee Sobieski. Don't ask us why, but if you were a fan of Leelee's work around this time - you're gay now. On this road trip across the American west, the boys play a prank on a trucker via their newly installed CB radio and all hell breaks loose. This movie has many rewind-able moments for little gay boys including Paul and Steve's buns on full display and Paul giving us his best lady voice over the CB, impersonating the fictitious “Candy Cane”. The scary trucker hell-bent on revenge is named “Rusty Nail” and the voice is provided by none other than “Buffalo Bill” himself, Ted Levine.  It doesn't get anymore queer coded than that.    Thanks for listening and don't forget to subscribe, rate and review us on Apple Podcasts! www.patreon.com/moviesthatmadeusgay Facebook/Instagram: @moviesthatmadeusgay Twitter: @MTMUGPod Scott Youngbauer: Twitter @oscarscott / Instagram @scottyoungballer Peter Lozano: Twitter/Instagram @peterlasagna

If you're like me, you love a good road trip. The open road, listening to your favorite music, chasing suspected serial killers, picking up sinister hitchhikers, making sadistic enemies on your CB radio, taking the backroads to hell. Good times!Stacy Keach and Jamie Lee Curtis are the token Americans, obsessed with the pursuit of a driver in a green van, who they suspect may be a homicidal maniac, in the Australian trucker suspense classic Road Games (1981).  C. Thomas Howell makes the terrible mistake of picking up kill-crazy hitchhiker, Rutger Hauer, and then becomes the prime suspect for his crimes in The Hitcher (1986). A young couple eloping to Las Vegas, leave the interstate, only to end up in a struggle to escape the underworld on the Highway to Hell (1991). And then from there, a CB radio prank becomes a nightmare for two brothers, who are targeted by a psychotic trucker out for revenge in Joy Ride (2001).

We're cruising into October with our trusty CB radio in hand for a rewatch of John Dahl's Joy Ride (2001). The film features a pretty iconic scene of stars Paul Walker and Steve Zahn walking naked into a diner, but that's not the only queer aspect of this highway horror film.Using Eric Langberg's Gayly Dreadful piece, we consider how the film is in conversation with the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard and how that opens up readings of hate crimes, gay panic and repressed sexuality in the film's villain Rusty Nail (Ted Levine).Plus: Trace's hatred of pranks, fears of doxxing, the film's MANY endings, misusing Leelee Sobieski, and coming to grips with the fact that Fuller is actually an asshole.References:Eric Langberg. “Onde vocês estão me levando?” Oh, and the last call is from Richard Curtis -- yes, the writer of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Notting Hill and Love Actually and About Time -- and he uses a very iconic sign off that will... well, just listen. We’ve got 99 episodes and this is one! Carolyn and Sarah made the most of their L.A. adventure by dyking out with TV and comic book writer Amanda Deibert about parenting! You may know Amanda from her wonderful and often uplifting twitter account, which we discuss along with our thoughts on the horror genre and Twister-era Helen Hunt. Why also wonder what the hell happened to Leelee Sobieski (apparently she quit acting to be a visual artist). But then we get to the topic to talk about what it’s like being a parent, and specifically on in a same-sex relationship. How do parents navigate gender and gender stereotypes? Who goest to the father-daughter dance? How much of parenting is the same regardless of your sex or gender? Plus, we end with a question from a baby gay who hates meeting her girlfriend’s exes. –Dyke Out with us at The Stonewall Inn on September 30! -Get extra episodes by joining out Patreon community. -For related content, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Leave Us a Review if you like what you hear! -Like our theme song? On this week's episode, the 2019 East Cage Tour comes to an end in beautiful New York City! The gang rounded things out at the Gramercy Theatre by talking about the absolutely ludicrous horror remake, The Wicker Man! What's with that Aaron Eckhart cameo? Why does Cage keep his entire suit on the whole film? And what a total boss conversation-ender Ellen Burstyn has here! PLUS: Take a drink every time someone makes a bee pun! Actually, don't do that. Definitely, definitely, definitely do not do that. The Wicker Man stars Nicolas Cage, Ellen Burstyn, Kate Beahan, Frances Conroy, Molly Parker, and Leelee Sobieski; directed by Neil LaBute.

Famous for different reasons Neil LaBute's 2006 remake starring Nicolas Cage, Ellen Burstyn, Kate Beahan, Molly Parker, and Leelee Sobieski is more infamous for it's uneven performances and Nicolas Cage shooting for the stars. Al Pacino stinks up the entire production of a film with such little story that 88 minutes is just ridiculous fluff. With tons of bad hair, sexual assault, disappearing actors, quite dubious motivations, non-linear time, drunk actors, and questionable filler material. It's pretty bonkers. Lets start with Al Pacino. He stinks. I'm sorry world, Pacino stinks. He's great. We love him. He's hilarious. But he's not exactly Lawrence Olivier. And this film is a highlight of how bad he is. His hair is outlandish. His skin changes shades of orange and he's just as confused with the film as we are. Great fun, great fun. Except for Alicia Witt, she gets sexually assaulted maybe more than any actress ever by an A-Lister.... Then there's the surrounding players. The world won't be too surprised but Leelee Sobieski stinks. She's always stinky though. Seriously, name a good movie she's ever been in. She's a pariah on film. Fantastic crappy performance here. There's a dean who is quite drunk. Billy Forsythe is exactly what you expect from him. All makes for fun. The plot is so bland but is barely noticeable because its surrounded by sequence after sequence of banana business. Take for instance, Campus Security. At one point, Al Pacino and Alicia Witt go to Campus Security...whose office rivals Quantico. I believe Dexter interned there. Fox Mulder has an office in the basement. At no time in the history of the world has Campus Security ever looked like this. While its no Dreamcatcher or The Wicker Man, it is a great ride through terrible acting and bad directorial decisions. It's just a little weak on plot, whether good or bad plot, it doesn't have enough of either. Still....great watch.

The Greatest Moments in the History of Forever

In 2005, Anne Hathaway decided it was time to run wild.  Zach and Matt look back at a forgotten, oft-overlooked film that maybe, just maybe, should stay overlooked.  Listen as they navigate through some dicey waters, try to figure out whatever happened to Leelee Sobieski (who's not even in Havoc) and discuss the notion of an actress trying desperately to shed her "child star" label.  Seriously, though, we apologize in advance for how idiotic we are.
