visit: https://www.ysguys.comDave McCann and Blaine Fowler open a truly global episode of Y's Guys — with viewers chiming in from Singapore, Cambodia, Italy, Australia, New Zealand and across Cougar Nation — by running down a stacked stretch of preseason news heading into the Sept. 5 opener against Utah Tech. BYU checks in at No. 6 in ESPN's preseason power rankings (per Mark Schlabach), running back LJ Martin picks up preseason Second Team All-America honors from USA Today and the AP along with Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year buzz, and Bret McMurphy's AP-voter research names BYU the single most underrated preseason team in the country over the last 12 years. National forecasters pile on from there: Stewart Mandel (New York Times) has BYU going 11-1 and winning the Big 12, while CBS Sports and CFB Kings both project the Cougars reaching the College Football Playoff.Former Cougar linebacker and current BYUtv football analyst Harvey Langi joins for the back half of the news segment, pulling back the curtain on NFL cutdown day — the anxiety of waiting for "the grim reaper" to call, and how some of the league's biggest stars (Taysom Hill, Zach Wilson, Todd Christensen, Fred Warner) turned early setbacks into Hall of Fame-caliber careers. He then breaks down what a healthy, more experienced Bear Bachmeier means for BYU's offense entering year two, how he'd scheme to defend him, and closes with his own ranking of BYU's five toughest games of the season — landing on Arizona, not Notre Dame, as the No. 1 measuring-stick game. The second hour brings the Re-Lyte Athlete of the Week (soccer's Emma Hamberlin, who scored twice to beat USC), a big basketball headline as BYU beats out Kentucky for transfer big man Jaxon Kohler, and a full campus-notes sweep across women's basketball (Delaney Gibb and Canada's run to the 2028 Olympic qualifying final), soccer, volleyball, cross country and baseball. Two Hotel Park City/Ruth's Chris BYU Super Fans round out the show — Greg Schroeder of Twin Falls, Idaho and Provo-studio guest Dean Taylor — each sharing their Cougar histories and playing a round of "Where Were You?" through classic BYU moments, before the Redmond Roots Rollout and a look ahead to next Monday's Game Week Bonanza with Jaren Hall, Rod Zundel, Adam Edmunds and Michael Johanson.Timestamps (approximate):0:00 – Show Open: Live From Singapore to Cambodia, Cougar Nation Tunes In9:31 – BYU vs. Utah Tech Game Week Details + BYU Cracks ESPN's Top 611:04 – LJ Martin's Historic Preseason All-American Honors12:54 – BYU Named Most Underrated Preseason Team in the Country16:27 – Stewart Mandel Predicts BYU Wins the Big 12 and Reaches the CFP21:11 – Week Zero College Football Preview + Cougars in the NFL Before Cutdown Day28:11 – Harvey Langi Joins the Show30:10 – Inside NFL Cutdown Day: Harvey Langi on the "Grim Reaper"35:11 – Harvey Langi on Taysom Hill, Zach Wilson & the Biggest Cuts in NFL History43:00 – How Would You Defend Bear Bachmeier? With the September 5 opener against Utah Tech now less than two weeks away, KSL Sports BYU Insider Mitch Harper delivers a loaded episode. First up, BYU unveiled a slate of upgrades to LaVell Edwards Stadium that are ready for the 2026 season. The headliner is the new PACS Recruit Lounge located under the east stands — a dedicated space for recruits and their families featuring new seating, food and beverage options, and entertainment areas designed to give BYU's recruiting staff a premium game-day resource. The home locker room also received a full renovation with new lockers, technology, and player amenities, while LaVell's Lounge has been refreshed with an expanded concessions menu, new TVs, décor, and seating. Mitch breaks down what these investments signal about the program's trajectory and how they stack up in the Big 12 facilities arms race. Next, Mitch tackles the big question every Cougar fan is asking: Will No. 14 BYU make the College Football Playoff in 2026? One national pundit is buying into BYU reaching their first Playoff. Also on today's show, Mitch chats with third-year BYU tight ends coach Kevin Gilbride. The 20-year coaching veteran who brings over a decade of NFL experience — including stints with the New York Giants, Chicago Bears, and Carolina Panthers — discusses what he believes could be the best tight end room since he arrived on campus. Walker Lyons and Roger Saleapaga have been running with the first-team offense in 12-personnel packages throughout camp, and Gilbride talks about the intersection of college football and the NFL, the development of his group, and the role the tight ends will play in Aaron Roderick's offense this season. Mitch then shares his latest practice observations from the final stretch of fall camp as the Cougars close out week three with a "Cougar Stock Exchange," discussing what's trending up and trending down in camp. To close the show, Mitch gives his thoughts on an NFL player, Dae'Quan Wright, expected to join the LSU Tigers after spending the spring and summer with the Cleveland Browns organization. Dave McCann and Blaine Fowler open fall camp week three with the release of the AP Preseason Top 25, where BYU debuts at No. 14 — the Cougars' highest preseason ranking since 1985 and just their second Top 25 preseason nod in 17 years. They run down the full poll (Ohio State, Oregon and Georgia lead the way, with Notre Dame at No. 4 ahead of its October trip to Provo), note LJ Martin cracking Pro Football Network's Top 100 NFL Draft Prospects list as he chases a repeat Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year season, and highlight an ESPN.com feature on why Kalani Sitake is "your favorite coach's favorite coach," featuring quotes from rival Big 12 coaches Brent Brennan, Rich Rodriguez and Joey McGuire. They also address, briefly, the ongoing situation between Sitake and BYU athletic director Brian Santiago before pivoting to a tribute to quarterback Marc Wilson's induction into the Sporting News 1970s All-Decade Team.Campus Notes cover the Cougars in the NFL ahead of roster cutdown day, Rob Wright III's No. 4 ranking among college basketball's top point guards, AJ Dybantsa's NBA rookie schedule, women's soccer and volleyball updates, and BYU golf's showing at the Utah Open. The Re-Lyte Athlete of the Week is freshman Brynnli Tolbert, whose 60th-minute goal at UCLA sealed a 2-1 win. Former BYU tight end Andrew George then joins from Colorado to preview the Cougars' new tight end tandem of Walker Lyons and Roger Saleapaga II, drawing on his own legendary pairing with Dennis Pitta — right down to the play that sprung McKay Jacobsen for the game-sealing touchdown against Oklahoma — and projects what it could mean for Bear Bachmeier's sophomore season. The back half features BYU-Pathway grad Chantell Hammond, founder of Strategy Square, sharing how finishing her degree online transformed her confidence, a Quick Quack Car Wash fundraiser spotlight, and two Hotel Park City/Ruth's Chris BYU Super Fans — Bret Stailey, joining from Jacksonville, Florida with his son Jack, and Janene Creer, LIVE in the Provo studio — who each share their BYU history and play a round of "Where Were You?" revisiting classic Cougar moments. The show wraps with campus notes, an On This Day history segment (The Wizard of Oz's 1939 premiere, Willie Mays' final home run), an inspirational quote from Mays, and a tease for next week's guests: former Cougar Harvey Langi and Entrata CEO Adam Edmunds, whose company will appear on BYU's jerseys this fall.Timestamps (approximate):0:00 – Show Open: Welcome to Y's Guys, Live Around the World8:47 – BYU Debuts at No. 14 in the AP Preseason Top 2519:03 – LJ Martin Cracks the NFL Draft's Top 100 Big Board21:45 – Why Kalani Sitake Is "Your Favorite Coach's Favorite Coach"23:28 – Dave & Blaine Address the Kalani Sitake–AD Situation27:24 – Remembering Marc Wilson, BYU's 1970s All-Decade Quarterback34:57 – Re-Lyte Athlete of the Week: Brynnli Tolbert36:37 – Campus Notes: Hoops, Volleyball, Golf & AJ Dybantsa's NBA Schedule55:32 – Andrew George Joins the Show from Colorado1:03:15 – Andrew George Breaks Down BYU's New Tight End Duo1:14:05 – Chantell Hammond on Her BYU-Pathway Journey & Strategy Square1:29:07 – Super Fan Bret Stailey Joins Live from Jacksonville, Florida1:40:46 – Super Fan Janene Creer Recalls BYU's 1990 Upset of No. 1 Miami1:55:35 – On This Day: The Wizard of Oz, Willie Mays & BYU History2:00:17 – Next Week: Harvey Langi & Entrata CEO Adam Edmunds#YsGuys #BYUFootball #BYUCougars #CougarNation #GoCougs #Big12Football #AndrewGeorge #LJMartin #BearBachmeier #KalaniSitake #MarcWilson #ChantellHammond #BYUPathway #WalkerLyons #RogerSaleapaga #BrynnliTolbert #BYUSoccer #BYUSuperfans #DaveMcCann #BlaineFowler #lds Hosted on Acast. BYU football fall camp is rolling, and KSL Sports BYU Insider Mitch Harper kicks off today's episode with the question on every Cougar fan's mind: Will Bear Bachmeier run the ball less in 2026? After rushing for 527 yards and 11 touchdowns as a true freshman last season, BYU offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick gave some insight that there might be less running from the star quarterback. Mitch breaks down what that means for the offensive game plan and whether Bear can balance protecting himself while still being a threat with his legs. Next up, Cosmo the Cougar has finally been inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026, with the announcement coming live on Good Morning America. With three Guinness World Records, a 2020 National Mascot Championship, and viral stunts that routinely break the internet, the real question is: what took so long? Cosmo is only the second Utah-based mascot to enter the Hall of Fame, joining the Jazz Bear, who was inducted 20 years ago in 2006. Mitch discusses why this honor was long overdue. In a quick-hitter segment, former BYU star and No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa predicted what he thinks his NBA 2K27 rating should be — an 80 overall. The game's developers landed him at a 79. Close, but not quite. The Washington Wizards rookie led the nation in scoring at BYU with 25.5 points per game last season. On the NFL front, former BYU safety Tanner Wall has been signed by the Miami Dolphins after being waived by the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this week. The All-Big 12 First Team honoree recorded 147 career tackles and seven interceptions in 45 games as a Cougar. Mitch shares his thoughts on Wall's path to sticking on an NFL roster. And finally, BYU star running back LJ Martin is officially back on the practice field for fall camp after undergoing shoulder surgery last December. The Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, who rushed for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2025, was cleared for full participation in June and said he's motivated and excited to be competing again. Mitch discusses what a healthy LJ Martin means for BYU's Big 12 title hopes. Subscribe to the Cougar Tracks Podcast to stay up-to-date with all the daily episodes. Dave McCann and Blaine Fowler open the July 27, 2026 episode of Y's Guys one week out from BYU's fall camp report date, digging into Pro Football Focus's Big 12 quarterback rankings (where Bear Bachmeier lands at a surprising No. 6 despite a 12-win freshman season) and PFF's Big 12 running back rankings, where reigning offensive player of the year LJ Martin checks in at No. 3.
