Let's just get on with it... Lord knows I had to. Enjoy, folks.
Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987) Directed By: Lee Harry Starring: Eric Freeman, James Newman, Elizabeth Kaitan, some other santa fuckers. Just imagine you and your family are on a road trip to visit your crazy grandfather, and on the way back your parents are killed by a drunk dressed as Santa. Now imagine that you were just an infant, and there's no possible way you could remember any of it. Surely, you could recount that as an adult, and that would obviously make you a sociopath. Imagine again that you are now Ricky Caldwell, and Christmas is coming up again... Oh boy here we go again. IMDB has this to say this about Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2: "The now-adult Ricky talks to a psychiatrist about how he became a murderer after his brother, Billy, died, which leads back to Mother Superior." We Also Talked About: Grand Design 25th Season (Amazon) Baby Driver (Amazon) Half Life: 25 Year Anniversary Documentary (YouTube) Black Mesa PC Game (Steam) Death-Scort Service (Troma) Werewolves on Wheels (TubiTv) Mean Guns (TubiTv) Like what you hear here? This week Dave and Bryan marvel at what is ostensibly the most egregious horror movie sequel of all time, a movie so lazy, so craven that it's hard to believe that it exists at all. When a greedy producer got his hands on the sequel rights to the original Silent Night Deadly Night he intended to have an entire movie made by simply editing the original into something new but director Lee Harry, a professional editor just couldn't make it happen. Because that's an insane and very stupid proposition. The compromise was to shoot insert scenes as a wraparound story. Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2 still manages to compose half of its running time, including the credits, from the original movie but it's not without its charms. After all, this is the movie that gave us garbage day! Odds and Ends: We pick some movie-centered resolutions for the new year, because this is a movie podcast after all, in case you didn't know; our closing remarks on the holiday season and what our favorite things to do in life are (the answer will SHOCK you!!!) Feature Film: We talk about a somewhat cult classic that is most known for an about 8-second clip about trash time, Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2! We also sorta do a look into the entire series, because we both* watched all the movies in the franchise, and it is definitely... an interesting one. Including the fascinating way it handles two-time main antagonist Ricky in the later entries, where he becomes a true inspiration for facing your traumas and reintegrating back into the real world. "Is it live, or is it Memorex?" Merry Christmas! This week Alexis and Kevin take a look at the horror sequel Silent Night Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays & I'll see you next year with the newly reimagined Dolls of Horror Podcast . .
Odds and Ends: We welcome Christmas time with our coldest of opens; Nick dropped out of his Futurama binge for no particular reason; T.J. saw Napoleon and liked... well, y'know, the history is pretty cool; what traps would be in a Saw Christmas movie? Feature Film: We discuss one of the great Christmas classics with John McTiernan's Die Hard. Do people still argue about that? Because, well, they shouldn't. So there. Eat it, Harvey. "Garbage day!" Merry Christmas from Cinema Shock! For this week's episode, we're doing something special and taking a break from our Roulette Extravaganza to give you a holiday-focused deep dive into not one but two of our favorite cult Christmas movies. First up is one of the most controversial slashers of the 80s, one that was so immediatley infamous that its studio pulled it from theaters almost immediatley, despite it doing decent business at the box office. SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT has gone on to become one of the most popular and well-regarded entries in the highly specific Killer Santa subgenre. Not wanting to let a good money-making controversy go to waste, the rights owners for SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT rushed a quickie, no-budget sequel into production just a few weeks after the first film hit home video and SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT PART 2 is as famous — if not more so — than its predecessor, but for... entirely different reasons. In this episode, we take a detailed look at the productions of these two films, and grapple with their legacies as holiday cult movie staples. SYNOPSIS: Little Billy witnesses his parents being brutally murdered by Santa. Years later, when he has to fill in for an absent in-store Santa Claus, his childhood trauma materializes once again. After being traumatized by his brother Billy's murderous rampage years earlier, Ricky Caldwell has become a serial killer himself and is now living in a mental hospital. Relating his story to a psychiatrist, Ricky recounts the details of their murder sprees and vows to avenge his brother's death. Theme Song: "There's Still a Little Bit of Time, If We Hurry and I Mean Hurry" by Slasher Film Festival Strategy. This episode was written, produced and edited by Gary Horne, and Justin Bishop. The time has come to review the iconic film that brought the world "Garbage Day!" Merry Christmas everyone as we review Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2. This is a movie that almost has enough recycled footage from the first movie to fill the entire feature-length of this film. In Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2, Ricky recounts the events that led him to becoming a murderer after his brother, Billy, was killed at the orphanage. A far as sequels go, this one is all time bad, but it is a cult classic for one climactic scene that is totally unforgettable. Students of SlashU, we come to the end of Season 5 of our podcast. Another year has come and gone. And we're finishing up both our season and the holidays with what has become an annual tradition. We're continuing the Silent Night, Deadly Night series with part 3, Better Watch Out. This movie continues the saga if the Caldwell family by picking up 6 years after Part 2. Ricky Caldwell is in a coma and he's being experimented upon by Dr. Newbury. The doctor is trying to see if people with psychic powers can communicate with people in comas. So why not try that out with a demented killer? Seems like nothing could go wrong. The poor, psychic, blind girl Laura ends up entangled in a psychic bond with Ricky who comes out of his coma and goes on another killing spree. We know this one sounds exciting. But sadly, it's not. That's why we do it though here at SlashU. They can't all be winners. Why watch the original film when it's all literally in the sequel? Juliet and Theresa take on a holiday horror classic and a seminal horror sequel with Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 and talk about Ricky's over the top swagger, the lack of child psychologists in the franchise thus far, and their mutual aversion to polo shirts. THIS WEEK: Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) and Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987)This year, you made it through David Gordon Green's Halloween. But can you survive three decades of Silent Night, Deadly Night?Probably! The first two movies are pretty great, actually. Find out why one is a stone-cold second-wave slasher classic and the other transcends meme-ification and a money-grab clip show structure to become something extraordinary.Support Optimism Vaccine on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/optimismvaccine
