The Chase Down

After 3.5 years, Chase Senior is moving on and leaving WNEP. In this final podcast, he thanks everyone for the support, goes over some of the highlights of his time in Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania, then previews Super Bowl 55 between the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers! 

To start things off, Chase Senior shares an exciting career announcement, then looks at the legacy of Tom Brady. Is TB12 the greatest individual athlete in the history of American professional sports? Tom Brady is about to appear in his 14 conference championship game in 19 years as a starter. Say what you want, but the guy is GREAT. What is Drew Brees' legacy if he retires? Oh, how quickly things can change. Less than three years after winning the first Super Bowl in franchise history, the Eagles have fired Doug Pederson. This is an organization that wreaks of dysfunction because of a meddling owner and general manager who can't draft. Chase Senior discusses that dysfunction, the Eagles' firing of Pederson and why the job opening may not be desirable to candidates on the market.

On this episode of the Chase Down Podcast, Chase Senior lists his top six head coaching vacancies in the NFL and explains which jobs are the most desirable and which gigs are tall tasks. Which candidates are in the running? The Lions, Falcons, Jets, Jaguars, Chargers, and Texans are all currently looking for head coaches.  

Small, locally owned businesses have been crushed by the pandemic. It's a shame because these businesses are part of the fabric of America. That's what makes what Barstool Sports and Dave Portnoy are doing for them, incredible. The Barstool fund has raised more than $18 million, saving nearly 80 businesses in the process and those numbers are only going to increase.

The NFL pulled off a full season with cancelling a single game. Props to the league. Now, it's time for some playoff football. Coming up, we look at the playoff matchups and spreads, marvel at some quarterback performances, discuss Notre Dame - Alabama and Ohio State - Clemson, then Chase Senior explains why what the Eagles did against Washington was smart. 

As 2020 comes to a close, so too does the NFL regular season. Chase Senior breaks down all of the playoff scenarios heading into the final week of the regular season. Why would you listen to any other podcast? Plus, the Bills are the team best equipped to beat the Chiefs. Ater being historically bad, Seattle's defense has completely turned it around. What do we make of the Steelers? Dwayne Haskins was doomed when he was drafted on Washington but he did this to himself. It's a good thing the Eagles lost and showing love to the ageless Tom Brady. 

Two weeks left in the regular season! The playoff pictures in both conferences are tight. The AFC playoffs in particular are going to be riveting. Bills win a division title for the first time since 1995. The Jets come through with the biggest upset of the year, taking down the Rams, but lose the top pick....for now. Some numbers surrounding the Chiefs are just insane as they hold off the Saints in Drew Brees' return. Hurts vs. Murray in the dessert was a show.

Yes, it's only been five and a half quarters, but Jalen Hurts has impressed in the early going. He's shown flashes of being really good and soon, the Eagles could be faced with a major decision. Move the franchise forward with Jalen Hurts and Doug Pederson, or keep Carson Wentz and find a new coach, because clearly Pederson and Wentz don't work well together. Chase Senior explains why Jalen Hurts could be the guy and there's a trade partner that makes too much sense for Wentz and the Eagles. 

Things are getting a little tighter and a lot more interesting as we're on the fourth quarter of the NFL season. In his first career start, Jalen Hurts and the Eagles break the Saints nine game winning streak and move New Orleans out of the top spot in the NFC. The Bills and Colts are playing like two of the best teams in the AFC, maybe even better than Kansas City. Bucs get a win, Washington is suddenly fun to root for? 

Looking for a source of motivation or inspiration? Maybe this will help! Running has taught Chase Senior a lot during the pandemic. It's helped him get through some up and down times, it's relieved stressed and has helped strengthen his mind and body. It's almost like running is a competition with yourself. When your mind and body tells you to stop, you compete, and crank out another mile to push yourself. Chase and Derrick talk about the launch of CSN back in the late 90's, what it's like to be his own boss now after he started his own business, can Carson Wentz be salvaged? Will Wentz, Doug Pederson and Howie Roseman all be back next year? D Gunn is also an incredible cook. We get into that and what he would cook his good friend, Andy Reid. 

Jalen Hurts will get the start over Carson Wentz on Sunday against the Saints. It's time, given how poorly Wentz has played, but the Eagles have also failed Wentz and Howie Roseman is to blame. He's the biggest problem with the franchise. Lastly, why James Harden being traded to the Sixers is a horrible idea. 

Gregg Williams sends a zero blitz, gets burned by Derek Carr and Henry Ruggs and loses his job. What was with that play call? Baker balls out for the Browns and Cleveland is now 9-3. Mayfield over his last six games has thrown 11 touchdowns and only one pick. Are the Browns for real, for real?! The Giants go into Seattle with Colt McCoy and beat the Seahawks. Carson Wentz gets benched.

Last Saturday, Joe Biden was named President-Elect of the United States. He grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, has spent his entire adult life in politics and has had to overcome several personal and professional hardships. His story on Biden winning the election was on the front page of The Scranton-Times Tribune. The hope was that high school basketball would be played, but now that season is in jeopardy as well because of a recent decision made by the state. It's been a contentious battle between the state's governor and the IHSA, parents, coaches and athletes. Chase Senior brings on his great friend and former coworker, Derek Parris of Channel1450.com to explain what's going on in the passionate sports state of Illinois, the mental health toll it's taken on athletes and they reminisce about their time working together.

The Dodgers finally got it done, winning their first World Series since 1988. There's a lot to unpack: Clayton Kershaw saves his legacy, Dave Roberts saves his job, Justin Turner tests positive, the case for Mookie Betts over Mike Trout. Also, after reading the TB12 Method, one thing became apparent. Tom Brady preaches focus, discipline, accountability, consistency and the pursuit of greatness. That's translated to the Buccaneers locker room, changed the culture and has the Buccaneers looking like the best team in the NFC.

Chase Senior and former Penn State, NFL and XFL quarterback, Matt McGloin recap a highly entertaining week seven in the NFL. Cleveland has found its identity and it's all thanks to Stefanski.

Part of what makes baseball great is the sport's tradition and history, but at the same time, that's also hurt MLB's efforts to grow the game in recent years. Due to the pandemic, though, MLB was forced to evolve and make changes and those changes have been effective. Chase Senior explains why he hopes those changes are permanent and why MLB should continue to move forward, not be rigid and go backwards like its shown the propensity to do. Patrick Mahomes is in a class of his own and he seems to be getting better and more comfortable with every big game. That's a scary thought. What's also concerning is how Lamar Jackson and the Ravens have performed against the Chiefs and in the playoffs. Lamar and the Ravens are 0-3 against Kansas City, 0-2 in the postseason, but  21-1 against everybody else. Chase Senior explains why the Ravens are flawed front runners, like a Ferrari trying to drive through a snow storm.

Aaron Rodgers is pissed off and motivated and has the Packers out to a scorching hot start, while Russell Wilson just put together the best three game stretch we've ever seen!
