He's got a unique Pittsburgh flair, not that Blue Collar Steel Town would embrace having flair. He's also, above all, a fantastically authoritative arbiter. And so I invited Dave on to “arbit” on a range of topics including but not limited to…* What's America's Mount Rushmore of regional accents? * Which American accent would you want your hypothetical wife to have?* We want Southern accents in pilots?* Dave Portnoy as Michigan homer on Fox? Fair or foul?* The problem with athlete broadcasters * Great pro athlete, bad broadcaster? * Moralizing sports terms like “Don't get pass happy!”* Domes for NFL teams, yay or nay?* Can tiny Floyd Mayweather be the GOAT fighter if so many could kick his ass?* Ban the tush push? * Field goals are too easy (unless you're Jake Moody)House of Strauss is a reader-supported publication. #15 Michigan travels to Norman, Oklahoma to visit #18 Oklahoma for the only top 25 matchup of the weekend. Michigan's quarterback, Bryce Underwood, made headlines in the offseason when he signed a massive NIL deal to flip his commitment from LSU to Michigan. The multi-year deal was reported to be between $10 - 12 million and left a large impact on the college football landscape. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey explain the impact this deal had on college football and what effects we are seeing because of it. They also discuss how this deal came to be and compare Michigan to Oklahoma ahead of their matchup. Plus, they chat about the Big 12 taking a different stance than the Big Ten and announcing that they are welcoming Dave Portnoy with open arms to their stadiums and campuses. Later, a different take on NIL is discussed. Since its inception, NIL has been a huge talking point across collegiate athletics. The media has offered up pros and cons, but much of the conversation has been about the negative impacts of NIL. Ross Dellenger wrote a story exploring the other side of that. He talks about his story on Duke quarterback Darian Mensah. The transfer from Tulane, who grew up with little money in a single-parent household, has changed his family's life after signing an NIL deal this offseason for a reported four million dollars per year. The guys discuss Ross' story and dive into the positive impact NIL can have for student-athletes and their families. Mensah and Duke prepare to host #11 Illinois this weekend. Finally, the guys preview what games they are looking forward to this weekend. After going 0-for-3 with their picks last week, the guys hope to do better as they make their picks for the weekend. Arkansas St., Kansas and Fresno St. are the focus of the pick 'em segment. Then Andy, Ross and Steven look at some other Week 2 matchups that have caught their eyes.Get ready for Week 2 on today's College Football Enquirer.(1:55) - Bryce Underwood's NIL impact & previewing #15 Michigan @ #18 Oklahoma(21:59) - Big 12 welcomes Dave Portnoy(28:25) - Darian Mensah's journey to the spotlight(44:08) - Weekend picks(53:51) - Other notable games Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:

In this episode of Bleav in Buckeyes, former Ohio State stars Bryant Browning and Chimdi Chekwa dive into the much-anticipated start of the 2025 college football season. The duo breaks down the Ohio State vs. Texas showdown, offering expert insight into key matchups, team performance, and what's at stake for both programs. They explore the media frenzy surrounding Arch Manning, dissect early-season performances across the country, and debate the significance of preseason rankings. The hosts also examine coaching strategies, the impact of high-profile cross-conference matchups, and how national media narratives influence public perception of players and teams. Looking ahead to Week 2, Bryant and Chimdi highlight areas where top teams must improve and preview some of the most exciting games on the horizon. Takeaways The hype surrounding Arch Manning is significant but may be overstated. Week one often leads to overreactions from fans and analysts alike. Ohio State's performance was clean, with minimal penalties and no turnovers. Preseason polls serve more as marketing tools than accurate rankings. The SEC continues to dominate discussions around college football rankings. Cross-conference matchups are crucial for assessing team strength. Michigan's young quarterback shows promise but needs to develop further. Media coverage often overlooks key players in favor of big names. The importance of coaching in preparing teams for high-pressure games. Looking forward to week two, teams need to capitalize on opportunities to improve. Send us a textFrom Engineering to Excellence: Inside Mattenga's Pizzeria's Rise to Pizza Today's 2025 Pizzeria of the YearThe latest episode of The Hot Slice Podcast with Pizza Today featured an inspiring conversation with Matthew and Hengam Stanfield, the engineering-minded power couple behind Mattenga's Pizzeria. Fresh off their monumental achievement of being named Pizza Today's 2025 Pizzeria of the Year, the Stanfields shared the strategic insights and systematic approaches that transformed their struggling single pizzeria into San Antonio's fastest-growing pizza business.A Remarkable Month of RecognitionThe timing couldn't have been more perfect for the Stanfields. In the same week they received the prestigious Pizzeria of the Year honor, Mattenga's also secured their third consecutive "Best of San Antonio" award – a testament to their consistent excellence and community impact. "It was in the exact same week," Hengam noted during the podcast. "Pretty awesome." This dual recognition represents more than just accolades; it demonstrates how the couple has successfully balanced operational excellence with deep community engagement throughout San Antonio. The Power of Customer-Centric MarketingOne of the most striking aspects of Mattenga's success lies in how they leverage recognition and media coverage. Rather than making achievements about themselves, the Stanfields consistently redirect the spotlight to their customers and community. "We never want to make it about us," Hengam explained. "It takes a village with the team, but also we are here because we have a lot of great customers that continue to support us. So it's always making it about gratitude to our customers." This approach has contributed to their impressive 15-20% steady sales growth this year, with multiple high-profile moments including a Dave Portnoy visit creating sustained momentum rather than temporary spikes.Engineering Excellence in Restaurant OperationsThe Stanfields' engineering backgrounds shine through in their systematic approach to restaurant management. Their comprehensive meeting structure includes three distinct sessions:Texas Hospitality meetings focusing on reviews and above-and-beyond service storiesEngineered meetings diving deep into 20+ key performance metricsInvest meetings centered on leadership development and team growth"As restaurant owners, you have many problems, then you can think about the source of your problem," Hengam shared. "Whatever problem we have is a system problem... instead of pointing to people, a lot of times, I think in our industry, we look at people are the problem."Innovative Commissary OperationsThe podcast revealed fascinating insights into Mattenga's commissary implementation across all seven locations. By centralizing prep work and investing in specialized equipment like the "cheese hog" that shreds 48 pounds of cheese in seconds, they've achieved remarkable efficiency gains. Matthew noted they successfully reduced their labor target from 23% to 19% while improving consistency and freeing up front-line staff to focus on hospitality rather than prep work.Vision for Explosive GrowthLooking toward the future, the Stanfields aren't thinking small. With plans to potentially reach 21 locations within three years – maintaining their current growth trajectory – they're actively preparing systems and leadership development for a 400-employee operation. "What has gotten us here will not get us there," Hengam reflected, emphasizing their commitment to continuous evolution and improvement. The couple also teased exciting developments they couldn't yet share on the podcast, hinting at franchise opportunities and other strategic initiatives

Happy Labor Day! Today on "Fearless," we have a fast-paced show, with Jason bringing the heat, as always. Arch Manning is getting slandered across social media, with Shedeur Sanders' supporters leading the way? Whitlock brings receipts reminding that Shedeur also scuffled in big road games. After that, Jason explores Coach Prime's poor clock management, wasting valuable timen and keeping time-outs in his pocket as Colorado lost its season opener to Georgia Tech. Deion foolishly attempted to defend his mismanagement. Whitlock calls him out on it. Lee Corso was honored during his final "College GameDay" as a pioneer and galvanizing force for what became a college football tradition. Dave Portnoy's first appearance on "Big Noon Kickoff" had all the elements of a WWE sideshow. Corso has the credentials; Dave Portnoy is a degenerate gambler. Wrapping the show, Whitlock reviews Alabama's loss to Florida State. What does this mean for Alabama? Is this the result of zesty Ryan Williams failing to perform in another big game? Would Nick Saban return to Alabama? Is Jon Gruden a candidate? Many questions abound in Tuscaloosa, and Jason provides answers. Buckle up! It's going to be a great show! It was reported Tuesday night that Ohio State banned Dave Portnoy from their stadium. The Barstool Sports owner is joining Fox's pregame show "Big Noon Kickoff" this season; a show that ends inside the stadium of the game it is previewing, before kickoff. It was assumed, by the public, that Portnoy would be among the pregame crew in the stadium each week. The show for Week 1 is at Ohio State, which would create an issue if part of the pregame crew could not end the show in the stadium. It now appears the report of this ban from Ohio State may not be completely accurate. As our own Ross Dellenger reports, Portnoy not being allowed in the stadium is due to more than just Ohio State having a problem with Portnoy. Ross, Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey explain what is really going on behind the scenes.Later in the show, the SEC recently announced it will shift its conference schedule to nine games starting in 2026. Among these nine games will be three "annual" games for each school. Andy, Ross and Steven discuss how the conference goes about determining what these "annual" games are, how this will affect the schools and how this shift may affect the SEC.Finally, we are just a few days away from the start of Week 1 of the college football season! A week that will see a lot of intriguing matchups, including Baylor visiting Auburn on Friday night. Ross recently sat down with Baylor head coach Dave Aranda to discuss the upcoming season. Aranda spoke about what is different with Baylor this year and the changes Baylor has made in NIL. From not playing ball in the NIL space to jumping in with the rest of the country, this switch could prove to make a huge difference in Waco. We are counting the hours until Week 1 kicks-off. Until then, join us on College Football Enquirer. Mike and Rico began today's show with a conversation on what the additions of Dave Portnoy and Pat McAfee will bring to college football pregame shows and if you'll still tune in. They pivoted briefly to react to more disappointing injury news with Alex Cobb before the guys went through some CFB and NFL futures bets.
The guys discuss the news regarding Ohio State and Dave Portnoy, also asking if you'll tune into CFB pregame shows because of the presence of Portnoy for FOX and Pat McAfee for ESPN.
