Welcome to Steelers Morning Rush, our new daily short-form podcast with Alan Saunders, giving a longer perspective on a single news topic surrounding the Pittsburgh Steelers or the National Football League. Today, it's whether the team can or will put all of its eggs in the 2026 NFL Draft quarterback basket. The 2026 NFL Draft quarterback class is expected to be a very strong one, led by players like Texas' Arch Manning, Penn State's Drew Allar and LSU's Garrett Nussmeier. But as shown over the weekend, what looks like it will happen next year does not always come to pass. Nico Iamaleava was expected to be in that list before he departed Tennessee amid an NIL dispute over the weekend. Will he still be? It's possible but far from certain at this point. Even if the Steelers are able to trade up into the middle of a deep quarterback class, there's no guarantee they'd hit on that pick. Maybe they'd get the next Ben Roethlisberger. Maybe they'd get Phillip Rivers, his less-successful but still-good draft classmate. Maybe they'd get J.P. Losman. That's why the Steelers are still looking hard the 2025 NFL Draft class, because nothing in the future is certain, and even if they don't take a quarterback early in next week's draft, they'll probably take one at some point. Alan breaks it down. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Austin asks if NFL talking heads are still trying to compare Mahomes to Brady, and Allen to Manning. We flesh out the analogy a bit and try to decide who is the Phillip Rivers, Eli Manning, and Ben Roethlisberger.

(00:00-25:35) – Query & Company opens on a Wednesday with Jimmy Cook and producer Eddie Garrison by sharing their thoughts on Anthony Richardson being benched for Joe Flacco. They play some of the comments made by Shane Steichen today about the decision to bench Richardson and if Jim Irsay had a role or not in this decision. (25:35-33:48) – After focusing on Anthony Richardson and Shane Steichen in the previous segment, Jimmy focuses this segment on Joe Flacco. He compares this to previous Colts seasons where they attempted to find one-year rentals like Phillip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan. (33:48-44:22) – Hour number one concludes with Jimmy and Eddie discussing Chris Ballard's future because this should result in him being fired since this was the reset button on his tenure and it is almost publicly admitting that the pick was a failure. (44:22-1:11:27) – Charles McDonald from Yahoo Sports joins Jimmy Cook on Query & Company to provide his opinion on the Colts benching Anthony Richardson, admits that he doesn't fully understand how Chris Ballard is still the general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, states that he doesn't really know where the blame falls right now with benching Richardson, and throws out the idea of trading Anthony Richardson if they are truly over with waiting for him to develop. (1:11:27-1:19:04) – Following his conversation with Charles McDonald, Jimmy reacts to Anthony Richardson saying that Shane Steichen didn't really explain to him why they were going with Joe Flacco. (1:19:04-1:27:40) – Hour number two concludes with Jimmy sharing Joe Flacco's statement about the situation with Anthony Richardson. (1:27:40-1:52:51) – Joel Erickson from the IndyStar joins Query & Company to highlight the takeaways from listening to Shane Steichen and Anthony Richardson talk today, does believe that this decision was rushed considering some players found out via social media, assesses whether the Colts would entertain trading Richardson or not prior to the deadline next week, wonders if that some of the perceived thoughts about Shane Steichen's play calling are actually Richardson trying to constantly push the ball down the field versus checking it down, and evaluates the future of Shane Steichen if they decide Richardson was a failure. (1:52:51-2:04:59) – TV face of the Indiana Pacers, Chris Denari, from FanDuel Sports Network joins Jimmy Cook on the show to highlight some of the improvements he saw in the losses to the Magic and 76ers, believes that they left a roster spot open so they can add a player a position of need, explains what the Pacers could look like tonight against Boston if they don't have Myles Turner, and previews tonight Eastern Conference Finals rematch. (2:09:51-2:13:49) – Today's show ends with the JCook Plays of the Day and Eddie sharing a couple bets he likes!Support the show: https://1075thefan.com/query-and-company/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

You know the Dems are coming after Joe Biden when 60 minutes does a sit down with the prez and includes the line, "America's oldest president seemed tired." If he's still coherent enough, Biden must feel the weight of the world on his shoulders right now. He is not up for this at all. House Republicans say they will have a floor vote Tuesday to elect Jim Jordan the new speaker. I'll believe it when I see it. Kansas Republicans say they're going to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot to keep Democrats from raising your property tax valuations. Pretty cool. Four conservative school board candidates in Blue Valley are campaigning together at www.bluevalleyexcellence.com and they are not holding back in what they want their schools to be. Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert lost another game Monday night by throwing a pick at the end. Charger fans in the stands looked stunned, probably because they are now realizing he's just a younger Phillip Rivers. The Chiefs have a chance to add a deep threat at wide receiver if they want to go Hollywood and former KU star Josh Jackson, twice arrested before, is in big, big trouble this time.

Recorded: August 16th 2023 | We are double dipping this week boys and in this episode we bring you the best safety in all of football, Derwin James. Derwin came straight from practice to hop on with the boys but it wasn't long before the whole squad was laughing it up, talking crazy hypotheticals, and discussing the Chargers expectations for the season. Derwin also gives insight on what kind of taste the Jaguars game left in their mouths, how he failed at trying to get Phillip Rivers to cuss and why he loves playing against Patrick Mahomes. We definitely have to get Derwin on the bus in Nashville next offseason for a longer pod. The Chargers are a little different from some of the teams that have never won a Super Bowl. They seem to always find themselves in the playoff hunt. They've always had great names on the team: Dan Fouts, Junior Seau, LaDanian Tomlinson, Antonio Gates, Phillip Rivers. Even this current iteration of the team has premiere talent with quarterback Justin Herbert, running back Austin Ekeler, wide receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, edge rushers Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, and in the secondary with Derwin James and JC Jackson. But for some reason, regardless of talent, the Chargers have always come up short in the biggest spots. Often in spectacular fashion. According to Lindsey Thiry, there's a name for that phenomenon: Chargering. She joins the show to explain how chargering has been around as long as the team has, how it's the only logical explanation for some of the most spectacular collapses in the team's history…and what this year's team can do to put chargering behind them once and for all. This Michael Oher story is crazy, and the fellas can't believe that Blind Side got Blind Sided like that. Mike, Scott, and Cesar get into the wild story from Oher, claiming that the Tuohy family duped him into a conservatorship and that he hasn't seen a dime from the Blind Side movie. After briefly derailing to talk about Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jessica Simpson, Mike floats a conspiracy theory past Scott about Kyle Shanahan purposefully tanking Trey Lance's chances at being the starting QB. Plus, the guys laugh at the idea of Phillip Rivers joining the Niners had they beat the Eagles in the NFC Championship game. The guys talk about CJ Okoye getting a sack, and the NFL raiding Africa for talent and spreading CTE to other countries and Mike unveils the Wiseguy's Preseason Top 10 rankings. The conversation shifts to basketball, as Cesar breaks down James Harden ripping Darryl Morey in an attempt to get out of Philly. Mike discusses Lucas Glover's swamp ass and how it overshadowed his back-to-back PGA tour wins, and the guys laugh at Cotton Eye Joe interrupting an important point at the Canadian Open. The show wraps up with everyone talking about the Wander Franco story, and how tone deaf the Rays were to keep their kids snapback hat giveaway in place as the story started gaining steam.
