Welcome to the weekend! This is Stephen Colbert from the Gazette Digital News Desk, and I'm here with your update for Saturday, June 3rd, and Sunday, June 4th, 2023.According to the National Weather Service, Saturday will be sunny and hot with a high of 93 degrees with a low around 66 Saturday night. Sunday will start out sunny and hot with a high of 91, but in the afternoon there's a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Sunday night should cool down to a low of 64.Davenport official called 911 about building the day before it collapsedThe day before the Davenport Building collapsed, a downtown development official called 911 to voice concern about the stability of a wall of the apartment building.Tony Behncke, operations director for the Downtown Davenport Partnership, said one of his employees called him on Saturday and, when Behncke couldn't reach city officials, he called 911.Behncke said his employee had talked to Ryan Shaffer, who runs a masonry business and had submitted a bid to the building's owner earlier this year to shore it up and fix it. The owner thought the bid was too high and found another company to repair the century-old building, but Schaffer was so concerned about the building at 324 Main St. that he frequently checked on it.On Saturday, Shaffer shared his concern with a Downtown Davenport Partnership employee cleaning up trash in the alley. The worker called Behncke, his boss.Behncke said he called his city contact and the fire station but didn't reach anyone, likely due to the holiday weekend. He called 911 at 2:46 p.m. Saturday to make a non-emergency report — a little more than 24 hours before the building partially collapsed around 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information on this developing story, visit TheGazette.com.Gov. Kim Reynolds signs final bills from 2023 legislative session Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signed 65 bills into law late Thursday afternoon, signed another with a line-item veto and vetoed one bill entirely. The signings represent the last batch of bills that passed the Republican-led Iowa Legislature during its 2023 legislative session.Among the bills Reynolds signed:Safe Haven ‘baby box' to surrender newborns: House File 425, amends the state's Safe Haven law to include the use of “newborn safety devices” at certain facilities that are staffed 24/7 with first responders, like a fire station or a hospital.Mental health hotline on student ID cards: House File 602 requires school districts to put a 24-hour call and text line that provides crisis counseling on student IDs.New nursing home moratorium: House File 685 places an initial, yearlong moratorium on building new nursing homes in the state and adding new beds to existing homes. The moratorium could be renewed in six-month increments, up to a total of three years. For a full list of the bills Gov. In a way, ALPA's second president, Clancy Sayen was a victim of the ouster of ALPA's founder and first president, Dave Behncke. When Sayen joined ALPA, he did not have the presidency in his plans. However, due to his well-spoken and eloquent nature, he started to become noticed by many of his fellow members and quickly ascended to national leadership, which culminated in being chosen to succeed Behncke. The intentional and analytic nature of Sayen came as a stark contrast to Behncke's, and ALPA's culture changed as a result of the Sayen administration.
Against all odds and amidst a quickly shifting industry and labor landscape, ALPA’s first president Dave Behncke continues his fight to maintain his position atop the organization he founded. Questions about the legitimacy of an vote takes the battle for leadership into the courtroom.
ALPA’s founder and first president, Dave Behncke, works to maintain his position against all odds. But an investigative committee looks into various factors that would eventually lead to his downfall, including discontent among the professional staff of ALPA and the fulfillment of Behncke's dream, ALPA's first national headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.

Dave Behncke's path to becoming the founder and head of ALPA was not a direct one. While Behncke finally achieved the military assignment he had coveted, it was short-lived. This, along with several other setbacks in his career, convinced him that the decks were stacked against him. Learn about how his failures drove him to become a successful labor leader at the head of one of the most powerful unions of the 20th century.
Learn about the origins and story of ALPA's first president, Dave Behncke. Join us to retrace Behncke's journey from a small Midwestern farm to the head of one of the largest and most powerful labor unions.
Everybody’s talking about the Libra, a new cryptocurrency proposed by Facebook, which advocates claim could transform the businesses and the lives of billions of people around the world. So … what’s it all about?I caught up with Heath Behncke, the Founder and Managing Director of HolonGlobal Investments, and the Executive Chair of the Libra Association, to get his thoughts on why we need Libra, what it could mean for companies doing business internationally and whether the currency will become a reality, given the challenges it has faced in recent months. Tune in to find out:• Why Facebook decided to launch the Libra• How the Libra is different to other crypto currencies • How the Libra could transform the shape of global business, especially for SMEs• When Libra is likely to launch, given the controversy around it in 2019.I really enjoyed this conversation with Heath, and I hope you do too. If you know someone who would benefit from this interview, please share this episode with them.
As civilized as we think we are, at the end of the day, we are animals. Yes, "evolved" animals but animals nonetheless. No matter how advanced we get in our modern technology we will always have certain biological instincts that will never go away. Isabel Behncke wanted to understand human behavior better before modern society took over by studying our closest relative on earth: the bonobo. Isabel spent three years in the jungles of Congo studying bonobos - yes, that is as dangerous and crazy as it sounds! She noticed something unusual: bonobos love to play including the adults! She started to unravel why this was. Don't wild animals have better things to do than frivolous play? What she discovered is that play is not frivolous at all and it isn't for us humans either! In this episode of The Recess Life we talk about: *How similar we are to bonobos and what we can learn through them about human behavior *Play as evolution's gift *Play dating back to ancient times BEFORE cities and civilizations were formed *How discovering play has changed Isabel from being a self-proclaimed "serious nerd" *Why events like Burning Man and festivals exist Shownotes at http://bit.ly/TRLs2e2
ALPA's first president, Dave Behncke was determined to make sure that all airline pilots would be treated equally with the respect they deserved. But airline management would fight hard to create a tiered system of pay. Learn how Behncke and ALPA leveraged the precedent set by Decision 83 to set up the pilot pay system airline pilots enjoy today, and how this issue galvanized all airline pilots to "think collectively and work collectively."

ALPA has a long history of accomplishments from organizing and bargaining to critical improvements in aviation safety and security . . . but how did it all start? Join us in retracing the fascinating and, at times, tragic journey of ALPA’s history in our new podcast, Flying the Line! Flying the Line chronicles the time before labor protections, safe working environments, and employee benefits that we enjoy as commercial pilots today. It’s the story of Capt. Behncke and his 24 “Key Men” joining together to form ALPA, fighting their opponents every step of the way.

Hello team, we hope you guys had a good summer. We'd like to thank you for your patience while we've been getting our shit together after a long and discombobulating summer. So many exciting things happening, just have to get everything in the right order. We have two items of good news to discuss today, and the first one is todays guest, Søren Behncke aka Papfar. We have been woefully ignorant of his work until recently, but when we finally were introduced to his practice we were simply blown away. He's been working hard for over 15 years on his strange, funny and beautiful universe, and it was a real pleasure to dive in. He recently released a book which functions as a type of mid-career retrospective, Sorry No Image Available, and it's nothing short of enlightening. We strongly recommend it, you can follow the links below to pick that up. Don't remain as ignorant as us. The other piece of news is that we will have a large booth at the brand new CODE Art Fair here in Copenhagen, which jumps off already next week, from August 26th-28th. We'll be there talking our usual shit, showing some artwork, live streaming and otherwise being a public nuisance. Be sure to come and check it out. Don't forget also to check out the beautiful CHART Art Fair at Charlottenborg and Photo Collect at Museumsbygning. Look at Copenhagen, all grown up with three art fairs! Enjoy! www.undergang.net

If you want actionable insights from a brilliant, accomplished, beautiful woman, this will be your favorite Mating Grounds interview so far. Isabel Behncke is a Primatologist at Oxford University. She begins by explaining her research with bonobos and lays out exactly what this means for guys: basically, she says to "feed the woman." Trust me, it'll make perfect sense the way she explains it. Isabel also tells you how to be vulnerable (which is very attractive) without coming off as needy (which girls don't like), what to do when you're taking a girl to dinner, and exactly how to correct the most common mistakes she sees guys making all the time. **Make sure to leave an honest review when you're done listening, we listen to yourfeedback.**
