Book Interview With Author and Professor Dr. William Varner of The Master's University

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 19, 2021 60:55

On, December 8, 2020, Dr. Varner shared with us about his newest 2020 publication - "Anticipating the Advent: Looking for Messiah in All the Right Places" (Nov. 1, 2020; Fontes Press), which can be found here for anyone who may be interested, but also his testimony and journey into how he became involved in Messianic studied and ministry. The forward of Dr. Varner's new publication is written by Dr. Michael Rydelnik of Moody Bible Institute and is considered a part-two volume that builds upon an earlier book called “Passionate about the Passion Week: A Fresh Look at Jesus' Last Days” also published earlier in 2020 (March 1, 2020; Fontes Press), and can be found here.   Description
Most Christmas books focus on the light and joy of the season. Anticipating the Advent, however, portrays the dark side of Christmas because only then will the Light shine the brightest. On the night when the host of heaven sang “Glory to God in the highest,” they were arrayed to do battle with the evil forces who wanted to kill the promised child. This seed of Eve was coming to crush the enemy's head (Gen 3:15) and destroy the Devil's power (Heb 2:14). Old Simeon would tell the young mother Mary that, because her son would be the Messiah, a sword would pierce through her soul (Luke 2:35). In so many ways, it was a “Not So Silent Night.”

Sorry every one for the break in production but back in the To All Nations broadcast center we are all back on track.  This is the second I believe final part of the series on the Reformation.  I loved doing this podcast but it was a lot of work!  I hope you find it edifying and enjoyable.  We owe a lot to the Reformation and all the men and women that died so that we could read and understand the Bible today.  The Reformation still lives on in our daily lives and without the Reformation our world would be radically different.   Catholic or Protestant there is something in this podcast for you and if you are not sure if you are a Catholic or a Prostestant this Podcast could help you decide.  Once again I shall list my sources and I hope you enjoy the show and share it with your friends! The Refromation, was an era all Christians should know about.  We live in an age that was defined, created an sustained by the ideas and the men and women of the Reformation.  From Liberal  values to indivdual liberaty, from pubic education to secular sphere of public life the Reformation created the modern era.  Almost nothing we know about the modern era, from the englightment to political revolution would have happened without the Reformation and was not rooted deeply in the Reformation.  Even the very nature of the Christianity was transformed by the Reformation the nature and practice of the Roman Catholic church transformed and the various denominations of the Protestant church were created in the Reformation.  Even the Orthodox churches of the East were affected and touched by the Reformation.  If you do not know for sure why the Reformation was important then you do not understand the age that we live.  As Christians we need to understand the Reformation and take in the ideas that have shook the world for the last five centuries. Terry and Edith Elbian are amazing missionaries to the Philippines and they tell their stories well. We start in the western Mountains of Maryland where a miraculous healing of Terry's mother set him on a course of faith.  But it is a faith that Terry can't maintain as a young man in the Airforce.  We then go to the Philipinies where Edith's mother has dies leaving her responsible for her young siblings and denying her a full education.  Escaping from that with hte help of her cousin Edith began using her skills to make, repair and design clothes on a base the young airman Terry was soon assigned too.  Terry no longer living the faith that he found as a child, when his mom was healed, was ready to end it all when God using a poor, native Philipino believer dramatically up ends his life which leads to Terry's romance with Edith who was very unsure of this American man and his intentions.  There dating adventures and misadventures going from Church to Church are incredible. From there we go into why Terry felt a call to missions and Edith's journey to her faith in Jesus Christ and how that faith would change both of their lives forever.  You are going to love this episode and just hold on to your hates for Part II of the Elbian's Amazing Story Part II.  Take some time to subscribe to us on iTunes if you will and leave a five star review it helps us connect more people To All Nations!
