A coalition of privacy defenders led by Lex Lumina and the Electronic Frontier Foundation filed a lawsuit on February 11 asking a federal court to stop the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) from disclosing millions of Americans' private, sensitive information to Elon Musk and his “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE). As the federal government is the nation's largest employer, the records held by OPM represent one of the largest collections of sensitive personal data in the country. Is this a big deal? Should we care? Joining Pam today is Stanford Law Professor Mark Lemley, an expert in intellectual property, patent law, trademark law, antitrust, the law of robotics and AI, video game law, and remedies. Lemley is of counsel with the law firm Lex Lumina and closely involved in the DOGE case. In this episode, Lemley overviews urgent privacy concerns that led to this lawsuit, laws such as the Privacy Act, and legal next steps for this case. The conversation shifts to the current political landscape, highlighting the unprecedented influence of Silicon Valley, particularly under the Musk administration. Lemley contrasts the agile, authoritative management style of Silicon Valley billionaires with the traditionally slow-moving federal bureaucracy, raising concerns about legality and procedural adherence. The conversation also touches on the demise of the Chevron doctrine and the possible rise of an imperial presidency, drawing parallels between the Supreme Court's and the executive branch's power grabs—and how Lemley's 2022 paper, "The Imperial Supreme Court," predicted the Court's trend towards consolidating power. This episode offers a compelling examination of how technological and corporate ideologies are influencing American law.Links:Mark Lemley >>> Stanford Law page“The Imperial Supreme Court” >>> Stanford Law publication pageConnect:Episode Transcripts >>> Stanford Legal Podcast WebsiteStanford Legal Podcast >>> LinkedIn PageRich Ford >>>  Twitter/XPam Karlan >>> Stanford Law School PageStanford Law School >>> Twitter/XStanford Lawyer Magazine >>> Twitter/X(00:00:00) The Rise of Executive Power(00:07:22) Concerns About Data Handling and Privacy(00:08:41) The Impact of Silicon Valley's Ethos on Government(00:14:01) The Musk Administration's Approach(00:18:01) The Role of the Supreme Court(00:24:43) Silicon Valley's Influence on Washington

In today's rapidly changing world, the once unshakable Western Order is on its last leg of dominance. For many years, the United States stood as the undisputed leader of the global order, but this era came at a cost for Europe. Now, a new chapter is unfolding before our eyes – the rise of the old powers of the East, led by China. As the East emerges from the shadows, the West finds itself facing a formidable challenge. No longer can we claim that the earth is solely the property of a sole superpower. The balance of power is shifting, and the world is becoming multi-polar.China, with its booming economy and relentless drive for technological advancement, has become a force to be reckoned with. Its influence can be felt not only in its immediate vicinity but across the globe. This rise is not just about China; it encompasses other nations of the East as well. Japan, South Korea, India, and others are making their mark on the global stage, challenging the Western dominance that has long been taken for granted.Ray's Bio:Ray came to Washington from his native Bronx in the early Sixties as an Army infantry/intelligence officer and then served as a CIA analyst for 27 years, from the administration of John F. In the wake of Ukraine's defeat, it's becoming evident that NATO's incompetence is on full display. Despite the billions of dollars' worth of military equipment and systems provided by the United States and NATO, the reality is settling in - NATO is incapable of fighting and winning against the Russians.Ukraine's collapse serves as a painful reminder of the irrelevance of NATO. The organization, which was once viewed as a formidable force, has failed to deliver on its promises. It has proven to be impotent against the Russian threat. Billions of dollars poured into Ukraine, and yet the situation only worsened. The so-called "support" from NATO turned out to be nothing more than empty gestures. It's clear that NATO's ability to back up its words with action is severely lacking. It's time to face the truth - NATO needs to be dissolved. The organization's structure and strategies have proven ineffective against the forces they were designed to counter. A bromance is a powerful thing. Lennon and McCartney. Holmes and Watson. Gilbert and Sullivan. Han and Chewy. But occasionally a bromance can nearly get you killed. A month ago the entire world watched transfixed as a former chef named Yevgeny Prigozhin marched with his private army on Moscow. At the core of this mutiny is a bromance between Prigozhin and a guy you've probably never heard of — General Sergei Surovikin. Prigozhin assumed his friend Surovikin would back him up, but he flaked, and now both men are missing. So how did Prigozhin's bromance with Surovikin nearly bring down the Russian Government? On the 24th of June 2023, amidst rising tensions within Russia, the Wagner mercenary group rebelled against the Russian Government. With news outlets suddenly flooded with images of erected barricades and military vehicles on the streets of Moscow - it was initially unclear what was going on. While details of the event remain murky in the West, it is clear to say that this rebellion posed the most significant challenge to Putin's authority in the 21st century. So, what exactly happened in Russia, and who are the Wagner group? In this episode, James welcomes Professor Rory Cormac to the podcast to examine the role coups have played throughout history, and determine if any of these examples can be applied to modern-day Russia. By exploring the role of propaganda and the funding of covert government organisations, they delve into how the Wagner group attained such power and question whether this marks a turning point in Putin's authoritarian rule.Discover the past on History Hit with ad-free original podcasts and documentaries released weekly presented by world renowned historians like Dan Snow, Suzannah Lipscomb, Lucy Worsley, Matt Lewis, Tristan Hughes and more. Part 1 UKCiaran Goggins shares his knowledge on the mysterious ax murder of private investigator Daniel Morgan .Part 2 Christopher Fulton's journey began with the death of Evelyn Lincoln, late secretary to President John F. Kennedy. Through Lincoln, crucial evidence ended up in Christopher's hands—evidence that was going to be used to facilitate a new future for America. But the U.S. government's position was clear: that evidence had to be confiscated and classified, and the truth hidden away from the public. Christopher was sent to federal prison for years under a sealed warrant and indictment. The Inheritance, Christopher's personal narrative, shares insider information from his encounters with the Russian Government, President Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, the Clinton White House, the U.S. Justice Department, the Secret Service, and the Kennedy family themselves. It reveals the true intentions of Evelyn Lincoln and her secret promise to Robert Kennedy—and Christopher's secret promise to John F. Kennedy Jr. The Inheritance explodes with history-changing information and answers the questions Americans are still asking, while pulling them through a gauntlet of some of the worst prisons this country has to offer. This book thrillingly exposes the reality of American power, and sheds light on the dark corners of current corruption within the executive branch and the justice and prison systems.4 years ago #/, #assassination, #ciaran, #daniel, #fruit, #goggins, #inheritance:, #jfk's, #morgan:, #murder, #of, #poisoned, #the

Several American black leftist groups and activists are being charged with felonies for posting memes and other political content against the war in Ukraine, protesting racial injustice: allegedly on behalf of Russia:" Justice Department: U.S. Citizens and Russian Intelligence Officers Charged with Conspiring to Use U.S. Citizens as Illegal Agents of the Russian Government. Defendants Sought to Sow Discord, Spread Pro-Russia Propaganda and Interfere in Elections Within the United States [link] Google Bard: If you are considering expressing your views on the war in Ukraine, it is important to do so carefully and thoughtfully. Be aware of the potential consequences of your words, and make sure that you are not spreading false or harmful information. Ultimately, it is up to each individual to decide what they believe, but it is important to do so responsibly. Here are some additional things to consider when thinking about whether or not to express your beliefs about the war in Ukraine: The potential consequences of your words. If you express your beliefs in a way that is offensive or harmful, you could face social ostracism, legal repercussions, or even violence. The potential impact of your words on others. Your words could have a real impact on the people around you, both emotionally and physically. Your own personal safety. If you live in a country where it is illegal to express dissent, you could be putting yourself at risk by speaking out. It is important to weigh all of these factors carefully before deciding whether or not to express your beliefs about the war in Ukraine. There is no right or wrong answer, and the decision is ultimately up to you. OpenAI ChatGPT-4: Freedom of Expression vs. National Security Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right, enshrined in numerous national constitutions and international human rights instruments. However, like other rights, it is not absolute. There are certain situations where the expression of dissenting opinions may be limited, particularly when it comes to national security or incitement of violence. For example, some countries have enacted legislation to counteract terrorism, espionage, and other threats to national security. These laws may criminalize acts such as inciting or glorifying terrorism, disseminating propaganda, or providing support to terrorist organizations. In some cases, expressing the belief that one's own country is the "baddie" in the Ukraine conflict may be interpreted as crossing the line into prohibited speech. Criminal Liability: Context and Thresholds Matter In determining whether expressing the belief that one's country is the "baddie" in the war in Ukraine is an arrestable offense, it is crucial to consider the context and content of the expression. For instance, if an individual calls for violence against their country's military personnel, this could be interpreted as incitement to violence and be subject to legal consequences. On the other hand, if a person merely expresses their disagreement with their government's actions and policies in the Ukraine conflict, this is more likely to be considered a legitimate exercise of free speech. Critiquing government policies, advocating for peace, or expressing dissent without promoting violence are all examples of protected speech in most democratic societies. Jurisdiction Matters: Different Legal Approaches The extent to which expressing the belief that one's own country is the "baddie" in the Ukraine conflict is considered an arrestable offense will also depend on the specific laws and regulations of each jurisdiction. Different countries have different legal frameworks, which may impose varying degrees of restrictions on speech related to national security. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chrisabraham/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chrisabraham/support

President Biden is expected to visit Florida today after the death toll from Hurricane Ian rose to at least 108. But amid the rubble and despair, there are stories of immense generosity and kindness. In Moscow this morning, Russian president Vladimir Putin signed the papers annexing four provinces in eastern Ukraine, in violation of international law. While he was doing that, Ukraine's army was pushing back Russian forces and regaining control of some of that same territory. Former President Trump wants the supreme court to weigh in on the investigation into classified documents seized by the FBI at Mar-a-Lago. Republicans, including former President Trump, are throwing their full support behind Georgia senate candidate Herschel Walker, despite a report in the Daily Beast claiming he paid for a girlfriend's abortion in 2009. Walker denies all that, and he prayed yesterday with a supportive crowd at a surprise campaign event, as he remains locked in a very close race with Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock. Darrell Castle talks about the FBI and the accusations about it and the Department of Justice. Is the FBI still the nation's premier law enforcement agency and above reproach or has it devolved into just another corrupt agency acting as the muscle of the Democrat Party? Transcription / Notes: TROUBLE AT THE FBI Hello this is Darrell Castle with today's Castle Report. This is Friday the 2nd day of September in the year of our Lord 2022. I will be talking about the FBI and the accusations about it and the Department of Justice that have come to light over the last few years. Is the FBI still the nation's premier law enforcement agency and above reproach or has it devolved into just another corrupt agency acting as the muscle of the Democrat Party. There are so many scandals inside the FBI right now that it is hard to keep them straight until you realize that they are all tied together. The motto of the FBI is Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity, and I'm sure that it accurately describes most of the men and women out there on the front lines. It does not, however, accurately describe the leadership of the FBI which appears to be irretrievably corrupt. When I say corrupt, I don't mean they sell their badges for money like some traffic cop in a third world country. No, the FBI leadership is far worse than that, having tarnished their badges and their honor in a long list of vile, partisan activities on behalf of the globalist forces that run this administration and constantly tell us what we are supposed to believe, who we are supposed to vote for, and that all lies are truth, and all truth is lies, but let's look at the evidence. During the presidential election campaign of 2016 and especially after Trump was elected the entire intelligence community of the United States was weaponized to prevent the election of Donald Trump and ensure the election of Hillary Clinton. When that part of the plot failed, the plotters continued after the election to smear and discredit then President Trump and his administration. Originally the plot was given the codename operation crossfire hurricane and was launched by the FBI in July 2016. The FBI set out to investigate the many links that were supposed to exist between officials of the Russian Government, Russian Bureaucrats, and Russian Oligarchs and the Trump Campaign. I'm sure you are aware that the entire plot was invented by the mind of Hillary Clinton or those within her campaign. Once Crossfire Hurricane was launched, it became all Russia all the time and to some extent that same ideology still exists today long after the entire thing was proven to be a hoax. The result has been the destruction of a once proud organization which inserted itself unconstitutionally into partisan politics. I wonder if the corruption of the 2016 campaign by the FBI and others was a one-off thing or evidence of corruption in high places going back many years. You probably remember the Hunter Biden laptop scandal which came into public view in October 2020 just before the election. Hunter took his laptop to a repair shop in Delaware and did not pick it up. In addition to thousands of pornographic images of Hunter smoking crack with prostitute there was evidence of influence peddling of his father's influence as vice president and soon to be president as well as many other potential crimes involving foreign countries including Communist China. The New York Post broke the story and reported that the laptop was authentic and contained authentic information. The New York Times and many other media reported that it was just more Russian disinformation. Finally, almost a year after Biden was elected, the New York Times reluctantly admitted that it was authentic. A few days ago, Mark Zuckerberg CEO of Meta, formerly Facebook, went on the Joe Rogan podcast and made an admission that is still getting noticed by congressional committees. Whistle blowers inside the FBI, apparently more than a dozen of them,

A former New Zealand soldier now fighting on Ukraine's front line is certain the body of New Zealand soldier Dominic Abelen is in Russian hands. The man, who RNZ has agreed not to name, was a close friend of Abelen, who was killed alongside American Joshua Jones in the east of the country. The New Zealand government has not been able to say where the body is but the friend said it would be with Jones. The former soldier said he had seen evidence that Jones' body was with the Russian side. "They've put in the media, photos of Josh's passport, Josh's Ukrainian military ID, and pictures of Joshua's body as well. "We haven't received anything or seen anything like that with Dom's body, but it's safe to assume that'll be exactly the same, that they will have his body as well because they were right next to each other. " He said he wasn't sure what was happening in regards to repatriation of either of the killed soldiers, but he understood the US State Department was in talks with the Russian Government regarding the bodies. The soldier and Abelen had talked about what each other wanted, should they not survive the war. "I know what Dominic wanted. "This is something we talked about right in the beginning. I just asked him, you know, let's get this awkward shit out of the way. "If something was to happen to you, what do you want to have happen? "He said, look, if you can get my body back to my parents and to my family, that's cool, and he said, but personally, I don't give a s**t... I'm not there anymore, I'm gone. "Dom said he didn't want anyone to lose their lives to try and get him back. The solider said he had talked to the Abelen family and they agreed. "Just like us, we all want to see Dom home... but unless you're going to send a whole bunch of dudes out there to secure the whole area, push past it, you're not going to be able to get in there and take the two friends away from a place which is set up 10 to 15 metres away from the Russian position. It's just not going to happen." The soldier said to have someone like Abelen in Ukraine was extraordinary. "He was a consummate professional. He was fearless. He's strong. He's handsome. You know, you just never felt like you had enough time with him." "You just never got sick of him being around... him being sick of you on the other hand, that's probably another thing..." The soldier said he was a hero, for many reasons. "Not just for his combat ability and what he did on that day, but just in the way that he holds people together. "Hero is a very very tame way to put it, he's so much more." Since his death the solider said more New Zealanders wanted to join the fight in Ukraine. "If they do make it to a legion, either a battalion or to another unit is that they have to understand that this place is beautiful, but it's also terrible. "Some of the places that they'll go to, it's their own special kind of hell. "So think about the life that they have now, and also think about the lives of their families as well, because as we've seen, it can absolutely tear a family apart or turn their lives upside down. "One week in this place is like a year in Afghanistan."
