This is the first Local Music Bonanza Podcast episode with an interview. On What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town we interviewed musicians, business owners, artists, and community activists. I'm going to start separating the music from the other stuff so that I can really archive local music.    In this episode Aaron Williams gives us his thoughts on the music industry on a local level. We find out a little bit about his Homegrown Arts and Music Festival in Lisle Illinois. I've been corresponding  with  Aaron  for a few years online. It was great to finally meet him.      Aaron is also A songwriter that heads his own band called the Aaron Williams Band. He's been playing for years. You can find him playing somewhere most weekends. I have a section on my website that has links to every band that I've had on my five broadcast radio show. Head to zestysol.com and open the Bonanzanites tab to find over two-hundred local musicians.

Dave Francis has been killing it lately. He hasn't been around to help me host any of these new episodes because of the huge influx of new music being recorded at Joliet's Third City Sound. I was glad to catch up, and to hear him talk about some of the things he's been involved in over the years. Dave gave me the opportunity to start podcasting. He's given me a great deal of help over the last four years. There would be no What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town without this guy. Thanks, Dave!

In this episode Hudson Hollister talks with me about the benefits of Reg Tech. He's developing software to make it easier to accurately track data from energy companies that will also provide public transparency. This in turn will allow energy companies to become more efficient by tracking how much energy is produced annually. This could also then be applied to other types of agencies and businesses for the same purpose. This could be a game changer.     This ties into the theme of this podcast because his headquarters are located in Union Station in Downtown Joliet. He shares the same optimism and enthusiasm that Joliet is home to untapped greatness. He wants to bring this brand new industry to our city. He had a lot of great things to say about the musicians, artists, and business owners that give every once of themselves into what they do. Plus, he gave me a multitude of compliments. A large multitude.... it's a thing.

The year is 2020......    This is the first interview with my new home podcasting "studio". Dave is insanely busy so I'll be doing a few interviews solo. Maybe even more than a few. He and Third City Sound have been amazing these past few years. I would not have a podcast at all if it weren't for there knowledge and generosity. They had done every single episode for free because they wanted to bring some light to our community as well. I can't thank them enough. I hope to do more interviews than ever before with my new set up. I'll be conducting interviews over the phone until things settle down, if they ever settle down. Now, more than ever, I'd like to point out people in the community doing things to better our world.      In this episode, Craig Lichtenwalter had a few kind words we wanted to share about his enthusiasm for Downtown Joliet. He comes out to every event he can. He goes to all of the shops and restaurants. People like him give us all a boost when we sit and wonder, " Why am I still trying?"      Let this episode serve as a reminder that we aren't beaten. We can be strong when when we come together as a community. There are no heroes coming to save us. We are the heroes, and will save each other.

In the crowd watching us play were other friends who were also doing great things. We thought it would be a good idea to document anyone giving their all to bring some sort of light and beauty to Joliet. We believe that any listener can enjoy our podcast no matter where you're from. We had an absolute blast on this interview with Death and Memphis founders, Paul Garcia & Steev Custer. Ava has become a Nashville songwriter with great success penning songs for other performers. We were more than happy that she agreed, and had time, to give us an interview. Within our standard two songs per artist, she was cool enough to give us an impromptu performance of a song she wrote for herself. She's also gonna be playing at John Condron's Hot Seat Concert Series at Tribe's Ale House Sunday February 24th, 2019. We enjoyed our time with Ava...you will, too. We record our podcast on the third floor above Chicago Street Pub at Third City Sound in Downtown Joliet. We wanna keep you informed of all the positive things that are happening in our city. There is constantly new music coming out. New businesses are opening. Fest keep getting planned. We would like to show you a great time! We had such a great time hangin out with Casimer Kolasa for this episode. His band Sunwise is really cool. They are a Joliet based heavy band. It's not really metal, but they bring it just the same. He's a good dude that always comes out to shows and supports everyone's events. He rebooted the old favorite Mustache fest in November of 2018. It was primarily heavier music held at two different venues in Downtown Joliet. Elder Brewing Company kicked it off....Chicago Street Pub closed it out. Casimer is gonna be back at Elder Brewing on January 18, 2019 for the release of the new Sunwise album, Mistakes Were Made. He also owns Wilmington Collision. We get into that a little bit, too. We're excited to release the first of four parts to The Steel City Stories II. Alex Hoffer hosts this event that was held at Elder Brewing Company's first anniversary party in November of 2018. It was a great night of some of Joliet's favorite songwriters taking turns playing they're own tunes. They did four rounds just as they did in the first Steel City Stories. There was a mix of musicians that had done the first one along with new comers to the event. They were Brian Motyll, John Condron, Allison Flood, Chris Flood, Jrossgreen, Pete Jive, Alex Hoffer, and Eric Totherow in that order. Brent James of the Righteous Hillbillies made an appearance, too towards the end of the night. He'd been hangin out in the crowd when somebody had asked him to jump on up. We'll fill ya in on it when we release that round. We love listening to these folks play. It's cool to hear them play without bands, or to hear songs evolve over time. We hope you'll feel the same. I brought my hand held recorder out to The New Orleans North festival in Downtown Joliet in June, 2018. I went around to get some interviews with as many people as I could. The Big Lagniappe played to thousands of people that night as the closing act. I got nearly every member to do a little chatting with me. I thought it would be a good time to put this out in celebration of The Big Lagniappe's album release tonight at Chicago Street Pub. I do apologize for the low quality. It's always better when David Francis handles all things recording...however, he plays trumpet for The Big Lagniappe...It's cool to hear a little about what was brewing at The Old Joliet Prison Project before any of it started happening as well. This community is growing in size and pride. It diversity isn't an issue. The days of listening to one genre exclusively seems to be a thing of the past. How can you deny such dedication and talent. Music doesn't need to be a club for people who like to buy the same clothes and use the same slang. I think it's great to develop a culture, a certain style. But, yo....don't let that stop ya from enjoying someone else's. Variety is good. Drink it up before it fades away. What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town will try to inform you and document as much of it as we can. Change is subtle. It can start with a little mutual respect. We can show a bit of compassion for those we may not agree with. That would be a giant step in a peaceful, plentiful direction. In Episode 51, Next To Eternity hits ya with something heavy. Their new album, To the End, was recorded localy at The Nook in New Lenox. It sounds awesome....I do like heavy and aggressive music. It's where I started in music.      The sense of community is steadily growing in Downtown Joliet. Everyone is coming together to give the city something it hasn't seen in decades. There have been new businesses opening whose owners intend on bringing life to a place with so much potential. A change is coming. Don't buy into the dread. Humans don't have to be the disease of the Earth. It's time to give it all we've got in whatever it is that we do. That passion is what will turn the general air of life back to a positive tone. It can be done as easily as it was to make us feel helpless and defeated. We can inspire each other to make this place a source of pride. We can all live a healthy and bountiful life so long as we are willing to allow everyone else to have the same. This show is our contribution to that movement. We hope to give you evidence, the proof you need to come here with us in this effort to make a better world. We had a great time hangin out with David Drilling of Arbor Creek. They have been getting a bit of attention lately, and rightfully so. They're good dudes playing and writing to put the audience at ease for a couple hours. David learned a cover tune to keep to our shtick of having a live performance on the show. It turned out pretty cool. We actually did this episode remote at my house as Bill Aldridge was doing the final mix for the new Big Lagniappe album. We cannot wait for that. I tend to be a nostalgic person, and hitting my forties didn't lessen that any. I asked David Francis to help me document all of the great musicians and songwriters that we hang with at The Pub. I like to call it the Chi'er. It think it makes most of our friends gag HAHA! After starting the social media pages to have a makeshift website in order to have the podcast more easily available, we started posting about all of the city's concerts. That snowballed into posting about any event happening in and around Joliet. That's why that little line in the theme song exists. Downwtown J-Town 'n' all around!! So that's was when we started interviewing more than just musicians. That's why there's that monologue in the intro. In Episode 43, we interview a longtime friend of mine. He was introduced to Sue Regis at the first Art Movement meeting pre-Inc. He's now displayed his art three times in Downtown Joliet, and that definitely won't be the last. Restaurants have gotten more cerative with their menus. Farm to table is becoming less of a fad and more of a standard. Breweries can't seem to open fast enough for folks that want a place to go to enjoy anything and everything that's hand crafted. It's time once again for togetherness and longevity to become the norm. Everyone against eveyone will only end in tragedy. Let's discover more ways to take the stress out of each other's lives. All people deserve to have  the necessities within reach, and damn it, some good quality entertainment is one of those things. What's Goin' Down In Downtown J-Town is recorded live at Third City Sound on the third floor above Chicago Street Pub, the home of original Joliet music. They offer weekend passes and camping options. The people that run this fest were extremely friendly. The staff made us feel right at home while we were there. It's probably because the farm IS someone's home. There was plenty of parking with a ton of space to get in and out as often as you need.I counted over twenty vendor booths that sold a great variety of food and beer in addition to the unusual stuff you can get at fests like these. The musicians that came out to play were no joke. These were the kinds of bands that make ya wanna run home to practice. We did our best to make this a video podcast. It just didn't work out. We did find another group of people to help our efforts to record videocasts in the future. We do, in fact already have one booked for recording. With venues like The Forge close by, I've even run into some of my musical idols. We thought it would be a great idea to start documenting all of the, shall I say, adventures at Chicago Street Pub. It seemed like a good idea to start talking about the efforts of people outside of our friend circle, too. There have been a lot of good times had, and new friends made. We hope you'll like listening to us discover the hidden gems in our neighborhoods.Episode 32 features Chris Broach of Braid, and currently of SNST(Sunset). Awesome). They have had the opportunity to become a part of a music legend of the nineties, Green Jello. A guy named Bill Manspeaker was the mastermind behind the 1989 MTV music video, Three Little Pigs. He and guitarist Billy Youngblood were cool enough to call in via cell phone to join us on the show. Due to some technical difficulties, there is a massive amount of editing in this particular episode. You may notice one or two inconsistencies. We do apologize. It really was a great episode.
