As Dan Drago puts it - "there's no other festival quite like Philly Music Fest in any other city".  Started by Greg Seltzer and his wife Jenn back in 2017, Philly Music Fest has set out to honor, celebrate, and support the Philadelphia music scene.  We'll spend time hearing from Greg on everything from setting up the nonprofit to get this going, to getting the concept off the ground, the "at best: successful" beginnings, to the dynamic and highly impactful and sought after ticket it is today. We start things off with Greg by learning about where his love of music comes from and also hearing about the books he's written: The 1965 Project and The 1968 Project - where he's connected the historical events and the music month-by-month of those years that came out.  Incredible research and analysis! The other elements of Philly Music Fest that we touch on is how it is artist-focused and it is built to ensure they get paid a proper wage.  Then, this festival only taps in to the independent venues that support the vibrant scene and make sure they get paid as well.  Then, with the remaining revenue, the donate to 8 key nonprofits in Philly that provide music education to students to support the upcoming headliners of tomorrow:Rock To The FutureSettlement Music SchoolMusicopiaPlay On, PhillyGirls Rock PhillyBeyond The BarsWorld Cafe LivePhiladelphia Youth OrchestraDan Drago is our guest co-host who's show 25 O'Clock pod is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and to honor that he's released Want To Play A Song?: Live On 25 O'Clock, Vol. 1 - a 10 track digital download of live performances from over the years, and all proceeds are being donated to Philly Music Fest.Hope you enjoy this chat as much as we did!  And hope to see you down at Philly Music Fest, and support this incredible organization and see amazing Philadelphia music!Check out the line-up and purchase tickets here!Text us your thoughts on this episode, and who should be OUR #NextFavBand...As always, our hope is to bring you "your next favorite band". During this episode of ROCKnVINO, host Michelle talks with Josh Windmiller, co-founder and director of the Railroad Square Music Festival, coming up on Sunday, September 22nd. This free event features a wide variety of Bay Area musicians on multiple stages, as well as food, beverages, a kids area, and more. While it is free to attend, it takes work and funds to produce, so sponsors and donations are always welcome! Or you could volunteer for a shift at the event, and help the Railroad Square Music Festival continue to entertain and support musicians in the Bay Area! Josh has been organizing shows and festivals in Sonoma County for well over a decade, focusing on the talent that we have right here. (Coco could not join us for this show because she has jury duty! Boo!)   ROCKnVINO is sponsored by American AgCredit.

This is a delightful recording of a confident young Zep playing The Schaefer Music Festival, Central Park, NYC, on July 21, 1969. It's from a 1st gen reel and it sounds very good to these ears. The performance is, of course, glorious. I play a frenetic proto-funky Communication Breakdown, You Shook Me which is as much Robert's as it is Jimmy's with that awesome harp playing. This song shines brightly for me. Maybe you'll like it, too. Then of course we finish strong with How Many More Times. Until Whole Lotta Love took over, this song was the vehicle for the medleys in which our boys loved to indulge. In this performance we get a teeny taste of Woody Woodpecker, You Make Feel So Young, For What It's Worth, and a salacious and dirrrrrrrty Lemon Song. It's greasy greatness.

"We finally unlocked the potential of the Wichita music ecosystem. People in our community felt support and when they feel supported they grow." - Jessie Hartke "I've never seen a ball of Energy like that. I just want to thank Wichita" - Chase Koch "Social Change, you can say it or you can see it in action." - Adam Hartke The Elsewhere Music Fest exploded in Wichita, Kansas in late June, seemingly out of nowhere. From nowhere, Midtopia co-founders Chase Koch, Adam & Jessie Hartke created Elsewhere. It was a celebration of individual human creativity and potential. With the largest number of local musicians and artists coming together to put on a show for the rest of the world to see, Elsewhere Fest, as Chase put it, "Is not just about the music and the art. It was a Movement.  And movements start from the bottom up."  Adam and Jessie Hartke have worked and inspired the music scene in Wichita for nearly 20 years. Elsewhere Fest proves what can happen when you perservere and when you ask others to participate in a great idea. The music and art inspired change-- a social change that each individual could feel and take action on so that our lives can collaboratively improve. It was a star studded lineup, (Steve Aoki, Lane 8, Killer Mike, Sultan+Shepard, BadBadNotGood, 2LOT...) and we all felt unified with a freedom to express the best of who we are. And as Killer Mike proclaimed, "This is one of the smartest and most socially conscious festivals I've ever been a part of."  This is the power of Elsewhere.
