"From what I've been through, from what I've seen, I never thought I'd be in this position where I'm at right now." 2x Super Bowl Champ L'Jarius Sneed As we continue to make our way through NFL Training camps, we are nearing the end of the tour which means Football season is around the corner and we are sitting with star players from around the league getting inside scoop, hearing never-told-before stories and going inside the locker room mentality of the 32 teams as they prepare for the 2024 season. Tennessee made big moves this offseason by revamping their secondary, acquiring two-time Super Bowl champion L'Jarius Sneed from the Kansas City Chiefs who is embracing his new role with the Titans as the cornerstone of the team's defense. During our Pivot training camp visit, Ryan, Fred, and Channing were eager to sit down with the new Titan, not just for what he's accomplished on the field but the odds he's beat off the field to be where he is today. On this episode of the Pivot Podcast in partnership with Fanatics, the guys listen and learn more about the man behind the champion and how L'Jarius' path to the NFL was anything but easy. In an emotional conversation, Sneed reveals the motivation behind his gritty play, his relationship with his parents, near death experiences, the loss of his brother and how his life has transformed since his championship run in Kansas city and even more so after signing a four-year, $76.4 million deal this offseason. Never did Sneed believe as a young boy born in jail, with both his parents in and out of incarceration through his childhood, that he could go onto achieve the highest of dreams playing the game he loves and eventually changing his entire family generation and dynamic. Through loss and heartbreak, Sneed has developed a certain on-field instinct that makes him one of the most dynamic players in the game and through forgiveness, he's learned to appreciate the great moments and fulfill a promise to always take care of his mama. Switching gears to the Xs and Os, Sneed was sad to leave his Chiefs teammates behind on an often underrated defense but looks forward to this fresh start with the Titans and isn't letting up on the gas after his back to back Super Bowl wins, he feels he is just getting started. The guys ask him about his shut down plays that have made him one of the best while Sneed gets honest about the Chiefs trade, the fiery competition between him and Ja'Marr Chase, Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, the Zay Flowers play that sent his Chiefs team to the Super Bowl and even sharers his thoughts on the Taylor Swift takeover. While Sneed may be a man of few words in the locker room, he leads through example and allows his play on the field to talk for him. I'm beyond thrilled to be able to share this little sneak peek of a project I've been working on for the last few months! Back in the spring of 2020, as the world was shutting and COVID-19 restrictions were making travel impossible, I was looking for a way to keep putting out content despite NOT being able to go to Las Vegas and I had an idea to do a Vegas history podcast.  I'd already done several episodes about Vegas history, but I thought it would be cool to take deep dives into specific stories. At the time, I was binge-listening to a show called Disgraceland, a very cool music history podcast with an incredibly distinct sound...it was like a documentary but not a "boring documentary"; it had music, sound effects, and vocal effects.  Disgraceland told the story in a really unique way that kept me engaged and wanting more. That was the Las Vegas history podcast I wanted to do. From that, Sin City Stories was born. After the world opened up and I began traveling to Vegas again, I got back to releasing regular episodes of Jeff Does Vegas and, after 7 episodes, I put Sin City Stories on hiatus.  But there was still interest in the show; people were still listening to it and every so often, I'd get emails asking if I had plans to release new episodes. Flash forward to August 2023 and a conversation I had with Meagan & Anthony Smith, the creators of Mayhem In The Desert, a Vegas-focused true crime website.  We'd spoken numerous times before and every time we talked, we'd say, "We NEED to collaborate on something." And now, it's finally happening! Welcome to the world of Sin City Stories: Vegas True Crime! Take a listen to this snippet of the first episode, "Taken - The Kim Bryant Murder". And mark your calendars for January 1st, 2024...that's when the first complete episode of Sin City Stories: Vegas True Crime will be released. At least we aren't sitting in silence because for the second time in the last few weeks, Matthew talks us through an artist and album we were not super familiar with. This time, it's PJ Harvey and her 2000 album, “Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea.” Join us as we share our initial impressions of Harvey's music and bob our heads along with her subtle but frequent use of odd meters. We also dive into topics such as her elusiveness when it comes to genre, her distinct songwriting that leans heavily into dynamics and expression, debate whether we would describe this album as melodic, and look at how this record was distinctly 90s while simultaneously forging new ground and anticipating many alternative/indie music trends to come later in the decade. Because we know you love it, we also spend way more time than usual figuring out (or attempting to but failing) the time signatures. See if you can spot the 7/4 we totally glossed over. And make sure to listen closely to hear Joe and Brandon show off an alarming exuberance for Harrison Ford trivia.Be sure to support the artists by purchasing "Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea" on iTunes or wherever you get your music.
