Nick welcomes music journalist Jim Ryan to the podcast to talk about some of the concerts he's seen recently, including GWAR, Public Enemy, and Slayer at Riotfest; ELO at the United Center; Crowded House at Ravinia; and Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band in New Lenox. Jim also shares his interview with the co-founder of Riotfest, discussing the festival's move from Douglass Park to Bridgeview and then back again. They also chat about the pros and cons of The Salt Shed concert venue. Later, Esmeralda Leon joins Nick to discuss the movie *Blink Twice*, pop culture moments that haven't aged well, and a strange Stanley Kubrick documentary that Esma watched on Tubi. They also continue their culinary adventure by taste-testing another snack from Korea. [Ep289]

Danny is from New Lenox, Illinois and attended Providence Catholic High School, which is also Kevin's alma mater. He actually helped coach special teams for PC Kevin's senior year. Danny found his way on to the team by attending the Iowa Special teams summer camp, and having a self confidence like no other. He tells the story of his naïve assumptions about how easy it would be for him to play and start for the Hawks. In the line of Long Snappers, it was him, then Andy Schultz, the Kreiter, then Kluver. He discusses learning to snap, and eventually making his way on to the field, as well as his philosophy within the specialist meeting room and carrying on the tradition that Baker and Kaeding set before him. We talk about his favorite memories from wearing the black and gold, talking crap to punt returners, going back and forth with Coach Doyle, and more. Then on the back end we talk about his unique position in the Hawkeye community as he is married to Dan Gable's daughter. We talk about his time around Gable, the time he asked Dan to train him for a wrestling tournament, legendary Gable Tales, and more!If you love the show and want to show support, tell your friends! In this episode, we talk about:* How can the Chiefs design counters for the 49ers' ‘static' mentality on defense?* What are some ways the Chiefs can attack San Fransisco's defensive structure?* Kansas City offenses run some of the highest rates of motion in the NFL and often use quick motion to create. We explain how the Chiefs use motion to set up plays.* The Chiefs run the highest amount of split-field coverage in the NFL, focusing on playing MOFO coverages on most downs. How does Shanahan generally attack two-high structures?* How have teams attacked the 49ers with pressure?* The Chiefs overwhelmingly lead the league in blitzing the CBs at 10.3%, which is down from 11.3% pre-playoffs, mostly using them against reductions. What are some counters to these pressures?* After watching some Chiefs tape, how do you feel the run game will differ heading into the Super Bowl for the 49ers?* What is the general plan on 3rd Down for the 49ers, especially against a split-field defense?* The Chiefs routinely attack a defense with stacks and bunches and utilize their TE, Travis Kelce, in various ways to gain the matchup or leverage they want. What are some concepts to look for?* Utilizing the running back will be an important area for the Chiefs' offense against San Francisco, especially RB screens. What can you say about their screen game?—Bobby has written extensively on the 49ers and is one of the best sources for offense in the NFL. He is a coach currently on sabbatical. Most recently, he was the offensive coordinator at Providence Catholic in New Lenox, Illinois, in 2022, which finished as state runner-up.He is an author who breaks down NFL offenses in more detail than any other resource on the market and started a Substack in 2023 called Alert The Post.» Substack: alertthepost.com» Make sure to follow him on Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/b_peters12» Get his full line of books on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Bobby-Peters/author/B07S84Z3K8» Last pod: https://www.matchquarters.com/p/nfl-trends-part-2-shawn-syed-sumer-sports» MatchQuarters is a reader-supported publication. Today we're joined by the Rev. Greg Millikin, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church in New Lenox, Illinois. We talk about Ruth, crossing boundaries, and God's unfailing love. Questions for reflection this week: - How does the story of Ruth help us better imagine God's love for us? - What can we learn from the boundary-crossing love in Ruth? Courtney Schild is the president of Dutch Barn Landscaping and Pools in New Lenox, IL. He acquired t he company in 2018 after founding his own landscape company a few years earlier. He joined us on the show to talk about how he's addressed the two biggest issues plaguing the industry today: material and labor shortages. For both, his solution has been simple. Be proactive. We started the conversation with how he goes about stocking inventory to supply his projects. How that has helps his operations run smoothly and what implications inventory and inventory management have on his business. We looked at the steps he took to build a plan and how he executes it. We ended the conversation talking about his approach to hiring, training and retaining people. He's not afraid to get the best talent available, even if they don't have industry experience, because he's willing to invest time and resources into them. His belief: investing in them now will pay larger dividends later. Referenced in this episode: Investing time in training your teams with tools like Hardscaper.com

Today we're joined by the Rev. Greg Millikin, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church in New Lenox, Illinois. We talk about God's amazing love for us, our call to love one another, the importance of wrestling with (and taking seriously) scripture, and how sometimes we get a little too focused on the wrong things. Questions for reflection this week: - What is it about Leviticus, and these hard texts in particular, that terrifies us? - How can we wrestle serious with scripture, but through the lens of love? For example, how do we see Lev 18 and 20 with an understanding that chapter 19 ("love your neighbor...") is the fulcrum? - How can we engage in dialogue around LGBTQ, sexuality, and similar topics, using whatever privilege and authority we have in our contexts? Tonight's special guest is Dr. Dora Wolfe from New Lenox, Illinois, a Clinical Psychologist and a Trauma / Attachment Specialist. While not a survivor, Dora has devoted the last 20+ years working with both survivors and perpetrators. We love it when concerned professionals and activists who may not themselves be survivors become members of the NAASCA family. Dora's worked across a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, residential facilities, the department of corrections and private practice. She has worked with a diverse trauma population - combat vets, emergency workers, survivors and perpetrators of abuse, and survivors of natural disasters. She practices trauma informed therapy with a foundation of attachment theory and affective neuroscience. Utilizing modalities such as biofeedback, neurofeedback, EMDR, somatic processing and mindfulness into her work with patients. Dr. Wolf trains and supervises students and early career therapists, and consults with schools, hospitals, PCPs, pediatricians, surgeons and attorneys. Her aim is to insure others are trauma informed. She has presented on topics such as stress and the brain, trauma and the brain, attachment, early developmental trauma, and trauma and attachment. She is currently working on numerous publications related to trauma. Dora's passion has always been on prevention. Her career has led her on what is being called 'pre-trauma.' That is, how we both prevent abuse, and nurture protective factors that lead to fewer traumatic occurrences and increased resilience in the face of traumatic events. Should be a fascinating show!
It's difficult finding the right thing to say to those in mourning - we clumsily fumble over our words, say nothing, or utter the worst possible thing at the worst possible time. Whatever our experience, we could all use help ministering better to those suffering loss - in particular, the loss of an unborn child. To help us today is Matthew Eusey, Pastor of Trinity Church Central Oahu, and his wife, Karyn. The Euseys share about the loss of their son and what it was like at the receiving end of people's best efforts to help them through their grief. In a few words, they give voice to a darkness so often kept private. Their story is a humbling, sincere account of awaiting the resurrection while honoring the little life God fashioned and took so quickly. It's hard making sense of such a sadness, but Karyn said it best: “There is no silver lining in this … but Christ.”The Alliance has a bunch of copies of "Holding Onto Hope" by Nancy Guthrie that we are giving away.
