Arguably the black sheep of the French winemaking regions - due to a few things the biddies cover in the episode - is Alsace. This region is Calla’s personal favorite wine making region in the world and she aggressively tries to convince Kara it should be hers as well. Alsace has a different history having bounced back and forth between German and French control and their laws, varietals, and styles are truly unique from other French making wine regions. Wines Featured: Kara: Zind 2017 (Chardonnay/Auxerrois) Calla: Cave de Cleebourg 2016 Gewurtztraminer For more details: boozybiddies.com/28
In Episode 82 of the Mr. Wine Guy Podcast I had the privilege of republishing my interview with Peter Heitz, Winemaker for Shypoke Estate and Turnbull, out of the Oakville AVA of Napa Valley. To suggest that Peter has been involved in the wine industry for quite some time would be an understatement. In fact, Peter's family was some of Napa Valley's original pioneers, settling in the Valley as early as 1896. With that being said, Peter shares the story of his family and their immigration from Alsace France, and the privilege it is to be a 4th generation winemaker raised in Carneros. Peter talks about his time at Beringer Vineyards working alongside winemaking legend Ed Sbragia, and Peter's personal brand Shypoke Estate where he's had the privilege of making wines alongside his wife Meg since 1996. Peter of course shares the story of Turnbull, the inspiration behind the brand by Architect William Turnbull Jr. in 1978, and what it means to make Extraordinary wines for Turnbull scored by Robert Parker of Wine Advovate. This podcast is full of so many things that are sure to educate you on the impact Turnbull is making in the wine industry, but I think it's also appropriate to point out Peter's personality and charisma for doing what he loves each and every day, which will also make an incredible impact on you as well. So sit back, relax, and get ready, because you are going to love this episode. A few weeks ago we ventured up to Alsace to meet a producer that we were confident was a great fit for our portfolio! We’ve been wanting to add another mainly white wine producing area for awhile and with Nic’s Riesling obsession, it seemed like a perfect fit! Arriving in mid-October, the leaves were turning, but harvest was still ongoing for many of the winemakers! As we passed the rolling hills you could see the tractors going up and down with crates and bringing back all the juicy goodness back to the wineries. Alsace, located in the northeastern part of France, has long been defined by its geographical proximity to Germany. Alsace is a relatively long, thin wine region that winds along the French-German border. As a result, some grape varietals that are grown here - including Riesling and Gewürztraminer - are not grown anywhere else in France. ***Subscribe to our Channels for more: *** ► YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/BEVERAGETRADENETWORK ► iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/bevcast/ ► Stitcher: http://www.stitcher.com/s?fid=233919&refid=stpr
A little discussion and tasting of the wines from Alsace.
Our favorite sommelier is back! This time Arthur is talking holiday drinks. Did you know that champagne has to come from France? Most of the “bubbles” found on store shelves in America is of the sparkling wine variety. Find out which are Arthur's favorites. The other big drink now is bourbon. We talk bourbon and more bourbon. We also discuss expensive wine, I mean very expensive wine. Is it worth the price? What was the most expensive bottle Arthur has ever shared? And we can't talk drinks without talking hangovers. Are there any good hangover cures? We find out. Also Arthur and restaurateur Ed Rudisell started their own podcast called Shift Drink. Their show has prompted some rather unusual travels to places like Amsterdam, Paris, and Alsace France. I would be remiss if I didn't say Arthur has some amazing and unbelievable tales from his adventures. Cheers to a wonderful Holiday Season! Enjoy!
In this episode we cover a lot of ground and hit on one of my personal favorite wine regions: Alsace, France. And the show notes: We introduce our amazing partnership with Vinport.com, for which I am selecting wines that I think are great examples of their regions. Vinport has access to some amazing regions and producers that aren’t always widely available. If you live in state where you can have wine shipped to you, check out my page. Free shipping on 6 or more bottles, great prices, and descriptions of six kick ass wines that will let you taste exactly the attributes M.C. Ice and discuss on the podcast (and as I say on the podcast, I get a small portionof the proceeds, but I selected Vinport as a partner because they let me pick what I wanted to present to you, not what was on their agenda). LINK to my page on Vinport (which features two awesome Alsace wines this month!): LINK TO WFNP PAGE with Alsace wines for purchase! We do some listener thanks and s [...]
