Did you know that there are catfish that stay under 4''? Mini catfish you say? YES! Corydoras catfish are perfect for community aquariums and smaller aquariums. Most corydoras catfish do not exceed 3-4''. This makes them perfect for home aquariums. Corydoras catfish come from South America and they have hundreds of species in the genus Corydoras. Every tropical fish hobbyist loves getting new fish. Trust me take it from me one of my favorite things about the aquarium hobby is getting new fish. The problem with getting new fish is that there is no way of really knowing where the fish has come from unless the store tells you. I, Aqua Alex am a huge fan of catfish. I like having exotic catfish in my aquariums. In every freshwater aquarium that I've had I have had some sort of catfish. One species of catfish I really adore is the Shovelnose catfish. There are many different species  of shovelnose catfish available to the aquarium hobby but the 2 I love the most are the Lima Shovelnose (Sorubim) and the Tiger Shovelnose (Pseudoplatystoma), Believe it or  not there are many species of lima shovelnose and tiger shovelnose but most available to the aquarium hobby grow to decent sizes and require large aquariums. Many freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby often grow too large for most aquarists to house. Fish like pacu, red tail catfish, Irredescent sharks, and the like are cute when small but grow up as gigantic monsters reaching several feet in length. What is a aquarist going to do with a fish that reaches up to 28'' plus? Often times local fish stores and even public aquariums will turn these fish away due to lack of tank space. It usually results in the fish being killed or released into our waters where they can become invasive.Two hobbyists located in Ohio have turned a big part of their house into a ''Monster Fish Mansion'' where they have several huge aquariums and ponds with tank sizes like a 4400 gallon aquarium.They provide these monster fish forever homes in the gigantic aquariums and ponds. For the fish that they can't provide long term homes, they will find homes for them. It is an incredible thing that these two hobbyists do for the aquarium hobby. I am BACK in saltwater! I am keeping saltwater aquariums once again! I left the saltwater hobby back in the spring of 2017 due to some hardships I was going through. Over the years, there has been one fish that I, Aqua Alex have been asked to do an episode on. Many people love this fish. Kids, college students, adults, and the elderly all love and keep this fish. October is Monster Fish Month and all through out the month, I, Aqua Alex will be discussing monster fish and fish that grow large. Monster Fish Month includes Aquarium Hobbyist Podcast Fish of the week. Each week in October, I am going to highlight a different species of monster growing large predatory fish!This week's fish of the week is a fish that comes from South America! It is a fish that can grow anywhere from 12'' to 18'' in length! It is a shoaling species of fish that can be seen leaping in the wild like salmon. They are an algae eater and herbivore. Coming from four parts of the world, the Arowana is a majestic monster fish.
