For this episode of “Inside Contemporary Dance”, I sat down to chat with Ido Gidron.Ido is an Israeli performance artist, dancer, choreographer, and certified instructor of Gaga, the movement language developed by Ohad Naharin. He was born and raised in the mountains of Jerusalem and began his dance training in high school at The Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance (where we also met for the first time!) Ido went on to dance for Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company II and nearly a year later was accepted to the Batsheva Ensemble, where he danced for 3 seasons, performing pieces by Ohad Naharin, Sharon Eyal, and Danielle Agami. Under the platform of Batsheva Ensemble Dancers Create, Ido had the opportunity to create three different pieces, including a duet called Dualism, which won 3rd prize in the Machol Shalem Choreography Competition in Jerusalem. The Duet was later performed at the Lucky Trimmer Dance Festival in Berlin and toured Internationally. At that point, by the way, Ido had only just turned 23… I know…His professional career continued to unfold as he went on to dance for the Israeli Opera, was a guest dancer for the Norwegian National Ballet, and worked with independent choreographer Idan Sharabi. Most recently, with support from the Israeli Institute, Ido was invited to Kennesaw State University as an Artist-in-Residence. Currently, Ido dances for choreographers Sharon Vazanna, Arkadi Zaides, and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui.  Please enjoy!Follow Ido to learn more about him, his classes, and future projects here:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ido.gidronInstagram Ido: @idogidronInstagram Ido Gidron Dance Projects: @idogidrondanceprojectsWebsite:https://www.idogidron.com/Follow “Inside Contemporary Dance”:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/insidecontemporarydance/Website: https://www.insidecontemporarydance.com/If you enjoyed this podcast, please spread the love! 17 February 2022Arkadi Zaides:Europe's (In)Securityhttps://hessische-theaterakademie.de/de/ringvorlesungIn the last decade choreographer Arkadi Zaides has been exploring what he would like to call ‘Documentary Choreography'. ‘Documentary Choreography' integrates documents (interviews, testimonies, video materials, existing archival information, and others) in the choreographic work. It strives to weave these types of factual information with embodied practices in order to question social and political realities within which this type of work is produced. Moreover, it aims at transgressing the often-safe space of the artistic field and intervening through the process of creation and exposure of the artistic work in the actual political realm. In this talk, Zaides focuses on two of his two recent projects Talos (2017) and Necropolis (2021). Talos takes as its starting point an EU funded project that assembled and tested an innovative robotic system for protecting the EU borders, while Necropolis embarked on investigating the most detailed archive to date documenting migrants' and asylum seekers' deaths taking place on the way to the continent. Applying his artistic practice of investigating into these documents, Zaides wishes to discuss Europe's continuous race for securitization that consequently leads to making certain communities increasingly insecure. Europe's (In)Securityhttps://www.uni-giessen.de/fbz/fb05/atw/aktuelles/un-settled-performance-protection-and-politics-of-insecurityArkadi Zaides is an Israeli independent choreographer and visual artist of Belorussian origin, currently living in France. In Israel, he performed in several companies such as the Batsheva Dance Company and the Yasmeen Godder Dance Group before embarking on an independent career in 2004. He obtained a master's degree at the AHK Academy of Theater and Dance in Amsterdam. He is currently obtaining his practice-based PhD degree at the Antwerp University. He is a member of the CORPoREAL research group at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, and a member of S:PAM (Studies in Performing Arts & Media) at the Gent University. His performances and installations have been presented in numerous dance and theater festivals, museums, and galleries across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. Over the years he has curated projects such as New Dance Project (2010-2011) with choreographer Anat Danieli, Moves Without Borders (2012-2015), and Violence of Inscriptions (2015-2018) with the scholar, curator, and dramaturge Sandra Noeth. He is a recipient of numerous prizes, among them a prize for demonstrating engagement in human-rights issues, awarded to Zaides by The Emile Zola Chair for Interdisciplinary Human Rights Dialogue.https://arkadizaides.com↓The online lecture series '(Un)settled. - A talk relating to the performance TALOS - av Arkadi Zaides (BY/IL). This talk will be held in English. See info in Norwegian below. Venue: "Kulturtorget" at Litteraturhuset i Trondheim/Trondheim main Library. Free admission In Europe we are frantically closing down our borders, while waves of migrating fugitives are trying to find their way in. For every attempt to limit people from entering, migrants find new strategies to avoid being detected. This creates a new "choreography" of actions and responses, and make people move in new and different ways in the proximity of borders. Dancer and choreographer Arkadi Zaides has made the performance "TALOS" as a response to an EU-funded research project, designing an advanced robotic system aimed at protecting European land borders in the future. For this edition of “Teatersamtalen” ("the Theatre Talk"), we invite a philosopher and an Artificial Intelligence (AI) expert to meet Zaides and discuss the interaction between human and machine, and the limitations and transgressions that occur as a result. PANELISTS: Arkadi Zaides: Israeli dancer and choreographer Einar Duenger Bøhn: Philosopher with ethics and AI as part of his specialty Axel Tidemann: PhD in AI, works in Telenor Research. Moderator: TBA The performance "TALOS" is presented by Teaterhuset Avant Garden in Verkstedhallen at Svartlamoen, 4 and 5 May at 19:00. See: TALOS - av Arkadi Zaides (BY/IL) "Teatersamtalen" is a collaboration between Trøndelag Teater, Teaterhuset Avant Garden, Turnéteatret i Trøndelag and Programme in Drama and Theatre Studies @ IKM - Institutt for kunst- og medievitenskap, NTNU For more information, see: http://www.avantgarden.no/en/program/talk-2/ -------------------------------------- NORSK: - Panelsamtale i forbindelse med forestillingen TALOS - av Arkadi Zaides (BY/IL) Samtalen vil bli holdt på engelsk. Gratis inngang. Ordstyrer for samtalen vil bli annonsert senere.

During the first half of the show we spoke with Andrew Tay, who has been very busy this past summer. Andrew spent time in Europe with DanceWeb as a part of the Impulstanz Festival in Vienna. Next he was off to Berlin for the Tanz im festival. After giving us the inside scoop on these experiences, he tells us about another project he managed to fit in this summer. He co-choreographed chapter 4 of Les Chemins Invisibles, the Cirque du Soleil event presented in Quebec City. For the event he worked alongside his long-time collaborator Sasha Kleinplatz.Gabrielle Coulter chimes in after the break to introduce herself as an artist to the listening audience (the last time we had her in studio was during our Queer Artists Episode back in August).  Then she tells us about a few events coming up that she is involved in.  We are grateful for her coming in an expanding our horizons.  She promises to post all that info on our facebook page, so check it out.Quiet - photo by: Gadi DaganNext J.D reviews Quiet (2009), choreographed by Arkadi Zaides.  The show was presented at the MAI last weekend. To finish up, J.D. & Allison talk about The Tempest Replica in a little more detail.  This was the show that Crystal Pite choreographed, and her company, Kidd Pivot present at Agora last weekend to a sold out audience. Our show from OCTOBER 18th, 2012Listen:(Download) Take care, J.D.
