What if history isn't what we've been told? Beneath our feet lie ancient necropolises, abandoned cities, and massive structures built by a lost civilization far more advanced than we can imagine. From the Dead Cities of Syria to the Cahokia Mounds in Illinois and Moundville, Alabama, this episode uncovers a hidden world deliberately kept from us. Why are these sites so heavily guarded? Why do the narratives focus on pottery and fairy tales while ignoring undeniable proof of advanced construction? The evidence is overwhelming—these were not just burial grounds, but remnants of a connected, intelligent civilization erased from history. Systematic looting, blocked-off sites, and carefully molded stories have kept the truth buried for centuries, but now, we're exposing it all. If these places weren't hiding something massive, why are they still off-limits?Thank you all for your support of this channel!Every Subscriber, every Like, All Comments are huge in helping spread this research to new people every single week. If you were ever thinking about hosting your own event - listen in and steal some ideas because this day sounded so much fun. On top of that Steve talks about finishing projects and seeing fully painted forces on the tabletop. Terry's been bashing quickly with hot glue, and gets an amazing gift from a friend (4fall

In this episode, we revisit the subject of our second episode, the Catacombs. The empire of the dead lying beneath the streets of Paris. We discuss their odd and unique history, the stories of those who have become lost there, crimes that occured within, we talk cataphiles and cataflics and so much more as we go down in the Underground and find out just how interesting this place really is. Also, while Dean is talking about ugly Americans he quotes an old Howie Mandel bit. Credit where credit is due and all that. So come along on this magical and occasionally smelly trip beneath the streets of Paris to find out what, if anything, lurks in the dark in the Empire of the Dead!https://family-plot-podcast.creator-spring.com/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/family-plot--4670465/support.

In this episode of Global Treasures, we cover Memphis and its Necropolis - the pyramid fields from Giza to Dahshur, located in Egypt. Considered to be one of the seven wonders of the world in ancient times, this site was established in 1979. We will discuss the history, travel tips and more.
Vintage Sand listeners this month will get something of a twofer, a BOGO episode. Since we really have not had the chance to do a full necrology since July, Michael takes the time to relate the accomplishments of some very bright lights in the film business that have gone out over the past four months. These include artists who leave behind a great legacy and holes that can never really be filled, including people like Dame Maggie Smith, James Earl Jones and Alain Delon. Before we get to that point, though, we begin with a very different kind of eulogy: our reflections on Francis Ford Coppola's summa, the egregious "Megalopolis". We felt, as we did for Scorsese in our episodes on both "The Irishman" and "Killers of the Flower Moon", that a sprawling work by one of our greatest filmmakers, in this case a film that had a gestation period of nearly fifty years, deserved to be examined both in its own right as a work of art and in context as part of its creator's career. In hindsight, it's risible to think that at the end of the 70's, film fans were heatedly debating who among the heroes of the American New Wave would end up with the greater career: Scorsese or Coppola? (Let's not even talk about some of the others around the periphery of that conversation at the time, like De Palma, Bogdanovich, Friedkin, Rafelson, Cimino, Lucas and yes, perhaps even Spielberg—although, surprisingly, Paul Schrader has been coming up with a few late-period masterpieces). Megalopolis ends that debate, and stands, as I referred to "Eyes Wide Shut" relative to Kubrick's career in our episode devoted to that film, as a cardboard tombstone to the career of a gifted filmmaker. While the members of Team Vintage Sand, whose bottomless intrepidity was confirmed by each of us successfully wading through (a la Andy Dufresne) the 2 ½ hours of dreck that is "Megalopolis", did find the occasional positive to light on, for the most part it was an example of a work of incredible consistency, in that just about every choice Coppola makes as writer and director was the wrong one. Perhaps the comparison with Scorsese is unfair, and certainly nothing could ever erase the impact of Coppola's four films of the 1970's, or even the smaller delights of his later work (Mike's a fan of "The Cotton Club", and I've always thought that "Tucker" was a much better film than its reputation dictates). But for us, the truth is that between the gratuitous literary and high culture references, the sophomoric philosophizing that would make any actual 10th grader cringe, the derivative film tributes sprinkled throughout (including, unbelievably, a moment where the film appears to physically burn up in the projector—a brilliant idea had Bergman not done it 60 years ago in "Persona"), and a script that even good actors like Adam Driver and Giancarlo Esposito can't save, "Megalopolis" was, quite unintentionally, the funniest film of the year—and given how much we love and admire its creator, the most painful. Once can only hope that this is not Coppola's final statement, and that in future efforts he will trust his audience, not try so hard to impress us with his erudition, and remember what made him so great in the first place

Their aim is to bring you in, share the vibe, and bring the love of the Funk to you in their podcast.
Some of our regulars have a casual chat about Floridian death metal to ease us into triple figures and a new era for Necropolis. Music at the end of the episode: Atheist: Your Life's Retribution

It's a normal episode! Back to the basics, but let the good times roll. The past two weeks have been unique with the Path of Exile 2 play test and we'll have some guests for the next couple of weeks, so this was our little hiatus of home and comfort. Skills and supports were the majority of our PoE talk but we took a few minutes to shout out Reddit as well. We had a really fun time with this week's episode and hopefully you will too! If you're still playing 3.24's Necropolis, we hope you're having a great time! Thanks for the listens, everyone! After Dark 246: It'll Be Fine! Glavin! Talk about nerding out! This week is all about Path of Exile 2! Who cares about 3.24's Necropolis league (is that still going on?)! Now that we have passed the embargo date that GGG set for the PlayTest they invited us to, we just can't stop talking about the differences between Path of Exile 1 & 2! It was a privilege to be invited to the event and we can't thank you enough for your support and listening each week! Thanks and we hope you enjoy our PoE 2 ramblings!Forever Exiled Info:www.foreverexiled.comPatreonTwitter @ForeverExiled82Path of Exile WebsiteWrecker of Days Builds ListDiscord...FE Merch StoreFE Nexus Store
Amrita Ghosh's book Kashmir's Necropolis: Literary, Cultural, and Visual Texts (Lexington Books, 2023) is an interdisciplinary book that studies literary texts, film, photography, and art to understand the different forms of violence represented in the cultural productions from and on Kashmir. The author argues that selected texts present how the long conflict in the postcolonial nation-state transforms the Kashmiri body, the space, setting, the relationship between the subject and its natural world under different forms of violence. Each chapter showcases a form of representational and textual violence that emphasizes the shifts from biopolitical to necropolitical violence and also includes specific forms of violence such as epicolonialism, horrorism, and hauntings in Kashmir's landscape. The book also delves into how the concepts of agency, resistance, and resilience in these different texts necessitate new poetics of looking at Kashmir. The conflicted space of Kashmir has always been located within the politics of representation and this book investigates a problem in taxonomy within postcolonial discourses to articulate unique forms of violence in such a conflicted space. GGG blew our minds this week! 3.24's Necropolis didn't get touched this week. GGG posted a video while at a PlayStation conference this week that dramatically impacts Path of Exile play on both PC and Xbox/PlayStation. PoE 2 is changing so much of the core Path of Exile experience for everyone and we can't wait to try it out this coming week in LA! Thanks, GGG, for the invite, thanks listeners for your support, and make sure to watch GGG's 5-minute Console Gameplay Reveal. It's worth it. It's been a glorious week of watching people in our FE community die in our private league. Your deaths give us great joy. So does going CI as soon as possible! If you're not playing for fun, you're playing wrong
Apparently 3.24's Necropolis is dead. Who cares! GGG made a big (controversial) splash in the patch notes department this week, and though it wasn't with the purpose of spicing things up, social media sure got spicy in response! There's always lots to catch up on and look forward to with Path of Exile. So, whether you're still playing, or waiting for the next league, we hope you enjoy this week's shenanigans! Thanks, as always, for your support each week! We love your faces
MD 305 Mutilations & Standing OvationsThis week the Vat Spawn, dressed as Def Jamisus Garys (that's the police), have infiltrated the colosseum just in time to view the public mutilation of ten people, who were then dropped to the Necropolis below. The cops, who's clothes they stole, found the Vat Spawn and a brawl commenced in the side hall of the arena.ANNOUNCEMENTSTHE MEGA DUNGEON MEN EP: Our new TTRPG fantasy meets hip hop album, The Mega Dungeon Men EP is out this Friday. It's episode 239! And you know what that means? Nothing! It's week 5 of 3.24's Necropolis and players are still going strong with their corpse crafting. Life keeps on ticking away, and it's always good to catch up with friends. Our private league is ready to go and we are all going to hate it
The .1 patch is out! You know a league is set once the .1 patch gets released. GGG changed up some pretty big details in Path of Exile with it too! We're still having a great time playing Necropolis while trying out a whole bunch of different Atlas ideas, crafting strategies, respecs...it's all a PoE lovers dream. This week the Vat Spawn are at the Rock Ride station platform with The Coroner. They're stopped while trying to pass through a DJPD checkpoint. The fuzz find a joint on Warlock Roc and they're detained. They unsuccessfully attempt to bribe the officers, and the cops call in backup. Tiger Wizard uses the Mad Dungeon word “sneakily” to create a cartoon style fight cloud, and they come out with their clothing swapped. The Vat Spawn escape in their new police uniforms, make their way through the municipal district to the colosseum where the executions will take place. They attempt to enter through a side entrance guarded by a DJPD officer by telling him that they were bringing The Coroner as a last minute addition to the public execution. The Coroner flips out at this undiscussed plan and runs away.Bat Alchemist utilized the Mad Dungeon word “sexy” to make every officer's name Gary. AGAB: All Garys Are Bastards. They make friends with this Gary and he lets them into the colosseum just in time to see ten people be mutilated and dumped into the Necropolis below.ANNOUNCEMENTSTHE MEGA DUNGEON MEN EP: Our new TTRPG fantasy meets hip hop album, The Mega Dungeon Men EP is out this Friday. Now that we each have a full week of 3.24's Necropolis under our belt, we couldn't stop talking! GGG had a crazy last couple weeks of posts, PoE 2 updates, and bug fixes...but in episode 235, we couldn't help ignoring all that and instead just talked about the league, our builds, and how both halves of Necropolis have helped (or not) our playthroughs. It's 3.24 Necropolis' league launch day! Hazaa! Hooray! GGG had big ambitions for this league and we were both very excited to get our hands on it and see how it turned out. This week our heroes meet The Coroner in the basement of his mortuary. We learn that the dead bodies of Def Jamisus city are sent down chutes to the Necropolis below. The Marshal of Mummies explains that astral markers are needed to re-up their magical powers before leaving them with The Coroner to take them to view today's public executions, and will meet them in goblin town later. The vat spawn move through the streets of the walled city, learning more about tone-stone, that there's venders selling bags of spaghetti everywhere, and that their public transit system, The Rock Ride aka The “R,” moves along the perimeter of the city's 100-foot tall walls. They move from an undead district, through the interior wall to the market district, to the entrance to the inner concentric circle wall to the city center. There, they're stopped at a Def Jamisus Police Department checkpoint. Warlock Rock fails at casting the spell candy talk, and is frisked. The DJPD finds a joint and the entire crew is detained. Will they be thrown into the slammer, or make a mystical escape from the fuzz?ANNOUNCEMENTSTHE MEGA DUNGEON MEN EP: Our latest song “More Than Meets the Eye” is out now on all streaming platforms. Basil Copper, born on February 5, 1924, in London, and passing away on April 3, 2013, was an English writer who initially pursued a career in journalism and newspaper editing before transitioning to full-time authorship in 1970. Beyond his literary pursuits, Copper cultivated diverse interests, including swimming, gardening, travel, sailing, and collecting historic films. Notably, he established the Tunbridge Wells Vintage Film Society and actively participated in esteemed film organizations in London. Basil Copper spent a significant portion of his life in Sevenoaks, Kent, and he was survived by his wife Annie, with whom he entered matrimony in 1960. Basil Copper's literary journey embarked with his inaugural short story, "The Curse," published at the age of 14. His professionally published debut, "The Spider," emerged in the Fifth Pan Book of Horror Stories in 1964. Venturing into novels, Copper made his mark with the Mike Faraday series, beginning with "The Dark Mirror" in 1966. Widely recognized for his series of Solar Pons stories, paying homage to Sherlock Holmes, Copper's association with editor August Derleth resulted in publications through Arkham House. Among his notable works are "Necropolis" (1980), a crossover between Victorian Gothic and detective fiction, and "The Great White Space" (1975), a novel influenced by Edgar Allan Poe and Lovecraft. Copper's macabre tales, including "The Academy of Pain" and "Beyond the Reef," underscored his mastery in horror fiction. His significant contributions earned him a Locus Award nomination in 1981, and in 2009, "Basil Copper: A Life in Books," a biographical work, received the British Fantasy Award for Best Non-Fiction. Basil Copper's literary impact endures, resonating through the realms of horror and detective fiction. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

(Railway of the Dead) *** Sometimes they are kind towards humans, even assisting them if in distress, or giving gifts. But some consider them lustful and evil, and still others claim they are the risen dead of brutally killed women. And there are reports of them being seen even today. We'll look at the history and lore of mermaids. (Mythical Mermaids) *** For years, Country singer Johnny Horton told friends of a premonition he couldn't shake. A premonition of his own death. Not just THAT he would be killed… but HOW. And he was eerily accurate. And that wasn't the end of his tragic story. (The Last Ride of Johnny Horton) *** Camping can be an amazing experience, especially when with friends or family. But even surrounded by those you love, when it gets dark, the wilderness gets creepy. Was that just an animal in the woods you heard, or something more? Was that blur you just saw a trick of the light or is there really something circling your campsite? I'll share some true stories of campers who experienced much more than what they bargained for.
