The voices featured in this project are: Gabriel Bergevin-Estable is a research fellow in the geography of migration at the Canada Research Chair in Global Migration Dynamics. For the past 20 years, he has worked as an activist, staff member, or administrator for various community organizations, primarily in the areas of immigration and cultural communities, technology, and disability. Abdulla Daoud is the founder of The Refugee Centre, a Montreal-based non-profit supporting refugees and newcomers through legal, employment, housing, and integration services. He teaches refugee policy at the Max Bell School of Public Policy at McGill University and is the Impact Fund Manager at the Northpine Foundation. He has advised governments, institutions, and civil society organizations on refugee policy, newcomer inclusion, and the ethical use of technology in migration systems. Mostafa Henaway is an author and community organizer with the Immigrant Workers Centre (IWC-CTI) in Montreal, focusing on labour and migrant justice. He is also a researcher on the labour conditions of Amazon logistics workers and the author of Essential Work, Disposable Workers: Migration, Capitalism and Class. On the April 2026 edition of Cultural workers for Palestine we hear about The Lost Paintings Project with two of the project co-curators, Jolle Tomb and Haidi Motola. The project is described this way: "The Lost Paintings, a Prelude to Return is an imagined recreation of the last exhibition held in Palestine by Palestinian-Lebanese artist Maroun Tomb, which opened on November 29, 1947 in Haifa. The 1947 opening coincided with the very day in which the UN approved the Partition Plan of Palestine, igniting the war and events that will later become known as the Nakba, Arabic for catastrophe, and during which, some 750,000 Palestinians were expelled from their homeland. Shortly after the opening, Tomb and his family were, too, forced into exile and never allowed to return to their homes. The fate of the 53 oil paintings presented in the exhibition, as well as most of Tomb's pre-1948 body of work, was lost to the war and its pillage. In this discussion educator and researcher Bengı Akbulut, based at Concordia University in Montreal, shares reflection on building alternatives institutions in a time of fascism. This conversation revolves around the fact that liberal institutions within western contexts are also under attack at a time of rising authoritarianism.
