It's Friday, and while the domestic spot market is hitting a bit of a post-holiday summer lull, the freight industry at large is facing massive structural, legislative, and tech shifts. In this episode of FreightWaves Today, hosts Craig Fuller and Julie Van de Kamp sit down with top industry analysts and experts to break down the biggest headlines moving the market this week. We dive deep into a jaw-dropping $104 million nuclear jury verdict against Mesilla Valley Transportation, unpack the EPA's newly finalized 470-page NOx emissions regulations, and discuss reports that tech giant Trimble is planning to sell off its transportation division. Plus, maintenance and legal expert Matt Loeffler stops by for Freight Expectations to sound the alarm on a sophisticated new type of trailer leasing fraud emerging on social media. Featured guests: Lee Klaskow (Senior Transportation Analyst, Bloomberg Intelligence): Joins us to break down Wall Street's red-hot interest in truckload and LTL stocks, why the current capacity correction feels more structural than cyclical, and what to expect from the upcoming Q2 earnings season. Bart De Muynck (Founder, Bart De Muynck LLC): Weighs in on reports that Trimble is looking to divest its transportation unit. We discuss why European software like Transporion often struggles to gain a foothold in North America, and how modern architecture and real-time AI solutions are shifting the enterprise software landscape. Matt Leffler (The Armchair Attorney): Returns for Freight Expectations to dissect the legal mechanics of the massive $104M verdict, how cross-border carriers manage equipment safety, the heavy technical/cost burden of the EPA's new diesel aftertreatment regulations, and a dangerous new asset scam hitting independent truckers. Musik: Po dolinam i po vzgoriam av S. Alimov och T. On today's episode of FreightWaves Today, hosts Julie Van de Kamp and Malcolm Harris break down the latest developments shaping freight, trucking, and supply chain markets as the industry heads toward the end of Q2 and the July 4 holiday rush. We cover two major FMCSA regulatory changes that remove long-standing compliance requirements for carriers, including the elimination of CDL self-reporting requirements and the printed ELD manual mandate. We also discuss Saia's aggressive network expansion and what it signals about confidence in the freight market. In our SONAR market update, we examine rising tender rejections, tightening capacity, spot rate expectations, and why housing could be the missing catalyst that drives the next phase of freight demand. We explore how housing starts, construction activity, and consumer spending impact truckload and flatbed markets across the country. Elhitték a pártban a kormányközeli kutatók méréseit? Ezekről a kérdésekről beszélget első videós podcastunkban Pethő András, a Direkt36 társalapító szerkesztője a múlt héten megjelent cikk két szerzőjével, Galavits Patrikkal és Szabó Andrással. To er verdens mest magtfulde mænd har siddet over for hinanden i en spektakulær retssag, hvor vilde anklager om løgne og undergangsfortællinger er gået hånd i hånd. This episode draws on experimental and review literature on mirror-gazing, strange-face illusions, anomalous self-experience, dissociation, agency, face pareidolia, and face-distortion disorders, especially the work of Giovanni B. Caputo, Caputo/Lynn/Houran, Mash et al., Bregman-Hai and Soffer-Dudek, Derome et al., Palmer and Clifford, and Blom et al. Historical and occult context comes from research on catoptromancy, John Dee's angelic scrying records, the British Museum's “Dr Dee's Magical Mirror,” Campbell et al.'s Antiquity study on the mirror's Mexican/Aztec obsidian origin, and Mesoamerican material on Tezcatlipoca and the “Smoking Mirror.”Links For The Occult Rejectshttps://linktr.ee/theoccultrejectsOccult Research Institutehttps://www.occultresearchinstitute.org/Cash Apphttps://cash.app/$theoccultrejectsVenmo@TheOccultRejectsBuy Me A Coffeebuymeacoffee.com/TheOccultRejectsPatreonhttps://www.patreon.com/TheOccultRejectsCore Scientific Sources: Mirror-Gazing, Strange Faces, and Altered Self-ExperienceCaputo, Giovanni B. “Strange-Face-in-the-Mirror Illusion.” Perception 39, no. 7, 2010, 1007–1008.Key use: This is the main science anchor for the episode. Caputo showed that prolonged mirror-gazing under low illumination can produce strange-face apparitions, including distortions, unknown faces, monstrous faces, animal-like faces, archetypal faces, and faces of relatives or deceased people.Caputo, Giovanni B., Steven Jay Lynn, and James Houran. “Mirror- and Eye-Gazing: An Integrative Review of Induced Altered and Anomalous Experiences.” Imagination, Cognition and Personality 40, no. 4, 2021, 418–457.Key use: This is one of the strongest overview sources. It reviews empirical studies on mirror-gazing, psychomanteum work, and eye-to-eye gazing, especially in relation to altered perception, anomalous experiences, bodily experience, and self-identity.Mash, Joanna, Paul M. Jenkinson, Charlotte E. Dean, and Keith R. Laws. “Strange Face Illusions: A Systematic Review and Quality Analysis.” Consciousness and Cognition 109, 2023, article 103480.Key use: Newer review source. Useful because it supports strange-face illusions as a reliable phenomenon in both mirror-gazing and interpersonal gazing, while also warning that stronger research is still needed on mechanisms and prevalence.Bregman-Hai, Noa, and Nirit Soffer-Dudek. “Mirror-Gazing-Induced Dissociation Impairs Self-Reported and Implicit Sense of Agency: A Causal Investigation of Dissociation and Agency Under Controlled Laboratory Conditions.” PLOS ONE 21, no. 2, 2026, e0341316.Key use: Excellent source for the agency section. This connects mirror-gazing-induced dissociation with weakened sense of agency, which pairs well with mediumship, possession, automatic writing, and the feeling that “something else” is present.Derome, Mélodie, Eduardo Fonseca-Pedrero, Giovanni Battista Caputo, and Martin Debbané. “A Developmental Study of Mirror-Gazing-Induced Anomalous Self-Experiences and Self-Reported Schizotypy from 7 to 28 Years of Age.” Psychopathology 55, no. 1, 2022, 49–61.Key use: Useful developmental source. It connects mirror-gazing-induced anomalous self-experiences with age, self-perception, and schizotypal traits.Caputo, Giovanni B. “Visual Perception During Mirror-Gazing at One's Own Face in Patients with Depression.” The Scientific World Journal, 2014.Key use: Useful for the emotion/self-face relationship section. Caputo found that strange-face apparitions were reduced in patients with depression compared with healthy controls, including shorter duration, fewer strange faces, weaker intensity, and lower emotional response.Tramacere, Antonella. “Face Yourself: The Social Neuroscience of Mirror Gazing.” Frontiers in Psychology 13, 2022, article 949211.Key use: Strong support for the idea that mirror-gazing is like seeing yourself as another. It argues that direct gaze captures attention and triggers self-referential processing, which helps explain why a mirror can make the viewer feel watched.Face Perception, Pareidolia, and Monstrous DistortionPalmer, Colin J., and Colin W. G. Clifford. “Face Pareidolia Recruits Mechanisms for Detecting Human Social Attention.” Psychological Science 31, no. 8, 2020, 1001–1012.Key use: Best source for the “face-making brain” section. Brandon Sedloff hosts a special live panel recorded at the INREV annual conference in Barcelona, where he was invited to moderate an exclusive Investor Day session featuring some of the world's leading institutional allocators. In front of an audience of global pension funds, insurance companies, family offices, and sovereign wealth funds, he sits down with Lucy Fletcher, Marieke van Kamp, and Martin Lemke to unpack how sophisticated investors are thinking about real estate today. The conversation explores how the asset class is evolving within private market portfolios, how global capital is being allocated across regions and sectors, and why fundamentals, data, and operational execution are becoming more critical than ever. Drawing from perspectives across global funds, European insurance portfolios, and family office capital, the panel offers a rare look into how top allocators are positioning for the next cycle. They discuss: How institutional allocators view real estate's role as a long term, income generating and stabilizing asset within private markets The tradeoffs between global diversification and regional focus, including why some investors remain concentrated in Europe The growing importance of data, transparency, and AI in shaping investment decisions and industry evolution Where investors are finding opportunity today, including living sectors, essential services, and value in retrofitting existing assets What defines a strong operating partner, from alignment and governance to transparency and active portfolio management Links: Lucy on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/lucyjfletcher/ Marieke on Linkedin - https://www.linkedin.com/in/marieke-van-kamp-25794b2/ Martin on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/martin-lemke-germany/ Juniper Square - https://www.junipersquare.com/ Brandon on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/brandonsedloff/ Topics: (00:00:00) - Intro (00:04:27) - Introducing the panel (00:06:59) - Reflections as chairpersons of INREV (00:14:50) - What is the role of RE in a portfolio today?
