This week, we discuss two films about people imprisoned overseas. The first is A Prayer Before Dawn (2017), which tells the true story of Billy Moore, a British boxer and heroin addict who spent a number of years incarcerated in Thailand in brutal conditions. The second is Papillon (1973), starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman. Les Poissons-Papillons sont des “butineurs” des récifs (130 espèces). Ils doivent leur nom à leurs extraordinaires livrées qui rappellent celles des plus beaux papillons et au fait qu'ils "butinent" leur nourriture dans les récifs coralliens. Ils sont le plus souvent rayés en blanc, noir et jaune. La plupart d'entre eux arborent un masque noir de zorro sur les yeux. La robe des juvéniles est souvent très différente de celle des adultes. Nous en verrons bientôt l'utilité.Leur museau tubulaire est doté de petites dents. Leur nom de famille vient d'ailleurs de là : chaetodontidae signifie “dents en forme de mini-poils” en grec. Souvent leur corps porte une grosse tache sombre, un ocelle, qui évoque un œil, ce qui peut effrayer d'éventuels prédateurs. Ces poissons sont inféodés aux récifs tropicaux. Ils se nourrissent de petits invertébrés, de plancton et parfois de corail et d'autres cnidaires, comme les anémones de mer. De nombreuses espèces de Poissons-Papillons sont considérées comme des bioindicateurs de l'état de santé des coraux. Leurs déjections contiennent des microalgues vivantes... que les jeunes coraux récupèrent comme colocs afin de vivre en symbiose.Ces déjections pourraient remédier au blanchiment du corail, phénomène provoqué par le réchauffement climatique. Ce "bleeching" tue le corail et menace à court terme les 3/4 des récifs coralliens de la planète... qui abritent 1/4 des espèces sous-marines connues. Des captures de Poissons-Papillons, dont les ancêtre sont arrivés depuis la mer Rouge via le canal de Suez, ont parfois lieu en Méditerranée, mais demeurent rares (cas de migration “lessepsienne”, du nom de l'ingénieur du canal de Suez). Ces poissons sublimes sont très appréciés dans les aquariums d'eau de mer… mais difficiles à nourrir, car leur alimentation est très spécialisée.___

Ponownie wybraliśmy się do północnej części Ameryki Południowej odwiedzając kolejną Gujanę, tym razem departament zamorski Francji. Nieprzenikniona dżungla, którą opisywał słynny podróżnik Raymond Maufrais sąsiaduję tu z dawnymi więzieniami o zaostrzonym rygorze, gdzie trafili między innymi Papillon i kapitan Dreyfus. Poznaliśmy brutalną historię „Wyspy Diabła”, będącej centrum kolonii karnej, prawdziwego piekła na ziemi. Odwiedziliśmy nie tylko byłe obozy karne, ale także Gujańskie Centrum Kosmiczne w pobliżu Kourou. Na koniec, w sąsiadującej z Gujaną Francuską Brazylii, w stanie Amapa, przywołaliśmy echa Gujany Portugalskiej, republiki poszukiwaczy przygód. Gościem Jerzego Jopa był Dariusz Drajewicz, fotografik, reportażysta, podróżnik, filmolog, doktor nauk prawnych, dyrektor Międzynarodowego Instytutu Sztuki Akademii Polonijnej.

Beschuldigd van piraterij op de Stille Zuidzee en zesvoudige moord werden zij in het Franse Brest veroordeeld tot de doodstraf. Honderd dagen lang leefden zij "in de schaduw van de guillotine", tot ze strafvermindering kregen en gevangen werden gezet op "de Duivelseilanden" - het bagno van Frans-Guyana: Kunt u zich voorstellen wat het is, wanneer je in de ochtend een kar hoort dokkeren door de straat en wakker wordt en denkt dat het die van de beul is? Dit najaar programmeren wij op Ware Misdaad het tweede seizoen van De Duivelseilanden, waarin we vertellen over hun verblijf in die beruchte strafkolonie. Cécile Papillon est comédienne, metteuse en scène, danseuse, pédagogue de l'expression. Elle a fondé le Théâtre des Pépites à Rennes, où elle propose notamment la formation de comédiens, la mise en scène de pièces classiques et contemporaines, et des ateliers pour enfants, pour adultes et pour les personnes en situation de fragilité. Nous avons rencontré Cécile Papillon la veille de son départ pour le Festival Off d'Avignon. Depuis hier, et jusqu'au 26 juillet de ce mois, elle y interprète En un battement de cils. Cette pièce est son adaptation pour le théâtre de deux textes majeurs de Christiane Singer, Où cours-tu, Ne sais-tu pas que le ciel est en toi ? et Éloge du mariage, de l'engagement et autres folies. « L'amour de l'amour...cette folie, dont je n'ai jamais voulu être soulagée... » À elle seule, cette fameuse citation de Christiane Singer et reprise par Cécile Papillon, exprime le coeur du message de sa pièce. Folie ou transcendance ? L'amour amoureux peut être l'un ou l'autre et parfois les deux à la fois. Ardente et inspirée, Cécile Papillon traverse des sujets difficiles, comme celui de l'engagement, de la fidélité, des peurs, des risques à prendre, des rencontres « coup de foudre » et de la passion amoureuse qui peuvent survenir à tous les moments de la vie. Seul un battement de cils suffit… Puisant sa création dans les traditions spirituelles et artistiques d'Orient et d'Occident, Cécile nous invite à accueillir et à vivre avant tout la passion de la vie. Avec grâce et talent, Cécile exalte l'amour amoureux, celui de la relation fusionnelle avec l'autre : La quête la plus précieuse, la plus incarnée et la plus divine à la fois, mais aussi la plus difficile et souvent la plus blessée. LA FLAMME ET LA VAGUE  Chers amis, chers auditeurs de Zeteo, Cécile Papillon, l'invitée de l'épisode que nous diffusons dès aujourd'hui, nous parle de l'amour amoureux avec les mots et l'esprit de Christiane Singer. Ce qu'elle appelle « l'amour de l'amour », qui est à la fois transcendance et folie, c'est la relation à l'autre la plus sublime, la plus espérée, la plus attendue, mais aussi, trop souvent, la plus douloureuse et la plus meurtrie. Nous sommes heureux de consacrer enfin un épisode entier de Zeteo à l'amour Eros. C'est un sujet ô combien brûlant, subtil et profond, mystérieux et envoûtant. Il fallait, pour cela, la flamme d'une femme ardente habitée par une fougue qui ressemble à celle de Christiane Singer. Ce sujet à la fois si beau et si complexe avait déjà été abordé ici, notamment lors des épisodes avec Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt. Cette fois, il est magnifié, exalté et exploré par Cécile Papillon, une femme à la fois passionnée, inspirée et courageuse. C'est tout ce qu'il faut, car ce n'est pas un sujet facile. Notre civilisation fortement influencée par les grecs nous a apprit qu'il y aurait trois amours : Agape, Philia et Eros. Les deux premiers, qui font souvent l'objet de nos épisodes, semblent plus évidents. Les riches sagesses humaines et leurs enseignements foisonnent et nous aident à les découvrir. Avec l'amour Eros, nous tâtonnons. Et c'est peut-être mieux ainsi. Nous croyons que c'est parce que l'amour de l'amour ne peut être étudié. Il ne peut-être que vécu et raconté par ceux qui ont le talent de l'exprimer. C'est là où l'Art prend toute sa place. Au cours de notre échange avec Cécile, notamment dans la beauté de ses silences et du souffle profond qui est en elle, nous avons remarqué que souvent, les mots manquaient. Et c'est bien aussi. Rien ne vaut l'expérience de la rencontre vécue. Vous vivrez certainement un grand moment, une initiation à l'amour de l'amour, en rencontrant Cécile et, aussi, la présence vibrante de Christiane Singer. À la veille de son départ pour Avignon, nous avons eu la joie de rencontrer Cécile Papillon à Saint-Malo. En ce dernier jour de juin, qui était peut-être le plus chaud de toute l'histoire de la cité corsaire, elle avait fait le choix de quitter le manque d'air qui asphyxiait sa ville de Rennes. Cécile est allée se plonger dans la mer avant l'enregistrement. Elle avait encore les cheveux mouillés quand celui-ci a commencé. Avait-elle senti la nécessité de ce passage dans l'eau, avant de nous parler du feu de l'amour comme elle l'a fait ? Ouvrons-nous à la flamme qui est en chacun de nous, et à la vague, celle qui unit les millions de gouttes d'eau que nous sommes chacun. Zeteo n'a pas fini d'explorer les mystères de l'amour et de son incarnation. Kerry and Collin plowed through this comedy starring Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito as two feuding neighbors at Christmastime. The experience of watching the film caused one of them to ponder, "why are we doing this podcast?" There are so many other questions, though. What makes the old, white iMacs so special? How long would it actually take to make an elaborate Christmas light trail, cook an even more elaborate dinner and then cover your entire house with Christmas lights? What did DeVito do to prepare in promoting this film back in 2006? All these questions, plus Kerry gives three movies from the "1,001 Movies You Mist See Before You Die" book. C'est la permaculture et l'agroforesterie par exemple. Dans ces façons de nous nourrir et de cultiver respectueuses du Vivant, les pesticides et la chimie destructrice, y compris pour nous, sont remplacés par des AUXILIAIRES de culture. Des êtres vivants qui nous aident à réguler les ravageurs de cultures.AVEC plutôt que CONTRE. ENTRAIDE plutôt que COMPÉTITION.Certains de ces auxiliaires, comme la célèbre Coccinelle, sont des prédateurs et des régulateurs d'autres êtres vivants. D'autres sont des pollinisateurs. Et pas seulement les Papillons et les Abeilles, mais beaucoup d'autres, comme des Mouches, des Syrphes voire des Oiseaux ou des Chauves-souris nectarivores. Enfin, certains, comme les Vers de terre, aèrent les sols et contribuent à les maintenir vivants et productifs.Notre invité est Hugues Mouret, un des fondateurs et dirigeants de l'association Arthropologia, une copine de notre propre asso Baleine sous Gravillon. _______

Les papillons fascinent par leurs ailes colorées et ornées de motifs parfois complexes, mais ces dessins ne sont pas là pour faire joli : ils remplissent plusieurs fonctions essentielles à leur survie. L'évolution a façonné ces motifs pour répondre à des besoins variés, allant de la protection contre les prédateurs à la régulation thermique, en passant par la séduction.L'une des principales fonctions des motifs sur les ailes des papillons est la dissuasion des prédateurs. Certains arborent des couleurs vives et contrastées, comme le rouge, le jaune ou le noir, qui signalent un danger : un goût amer ou une toxicité. C'est le cas du célèbre papillon Monarque, qui se nourrit de plantes toxiques à l'état de chenille, ce qui rend sa chair désagréable pour les oiseaux. Cette stratégie s'appelle l'aposématisme : le papillon "annonce" sa dangerosité par son apparence. D'autres espèces, non toxiques, imitent ces motifs pour profiter de la même protection : on parle alors de mimétisme batésien.Une autre stratégie visuelle repose sur les ocelles, ces motifs circulaires qui ressemblent à des yeux. On les retrouve par exemple chez le papillon Paon du jour. Lorsqu'il se sent menacé, il ouvre brusquement ses ailes pour exposer ces "faux yeux", ce qui peut effrayer un oiseau ou détourner son attaque vers une zone non vitale de l'aile.Certains motifs permettent aussi aux papillons de se camoufler. C'est le cas du Papillon-feuille, dont les ailes imitent parfaitement l'apparence d'une feuille morte. Ce camouflage lui permet de se fondre dans son environnement et d'échapper à la détection. Cette forme de mimétisme, dite cryptique, est une arme efficace dans la lutte pour la survie.Les motifs jouent également un rôle important dans la reproduction. Chez certaines espèces, les mâles et les femelles présentent des motifs distincts, permettant de reconnaître un partenaire sexuel. Les couleurs vibrantes ou les motifs spécifiques peuvent signaler la bonne santé d'un individu, influençant ainsi le choix du partenaire.Enfin, les pigments et les écailles qui composent les motifs peuvent aussi avoir une fonction thermorégulatrice. Des ailes plus sombres absorbent mieux la chaleur, ce qui est utile dans les environnements frais. Inversement, des motifs clairs reflètent la lumière, évitant la surchauffe.En somme, les motifs sur les ailes des papillons sont le résultat d'une longue coévolution avec leur environnement. Derrière leur beauté fragile se cache une sophistication biologique étonnante, où chaque tâche ou ligne peut faire la différence entre la vie et la mort. L'album Amour colosse a été imaginé pendant le premier confinement de 2020 durant lequel la chanson Prendre soin a été écrite, mais il prend aussi racine avec la naissance de sa fille, Alma. C'est le premier album composé en tant que papa. Les contes et les légendes mêlées à la fureur du monde actuel y ont une part importante. Babx nous transmet un message engagé au travers de ses chansons comme dans Jeux d'Hiver ou Les apaches. Il y a toujours une lecture politique dans une chanson, une manière d'essayer de comprendre le présent. In the first edition of a special 3-part podcast series, CancerNetwork® spoke with Daniel Morgensztern, MD; Mary Ellen Flanagan, NP; and Janelle Mann, PharmD, BCOP, about best practices for implementing recently approved bispecific antibodies into cancer care. Their initial discussion focused on the clinical trial results, administration protocols, and toxicity management strategies related to the use of amivantamab-vmjw (Rybrevant) for patients with EGFR-mutated non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Morgensztern is a professor of Medicine and clinical director of Thoracic Oncology in the Division of Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Flanagan is a nurse practitioner in the Division of Thoracic Oncology at Washington University in St. Louis. Mann is a clinical oncology pharmacist at Siteman Cancer Center of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and manager of Clinical Pharmacy Services at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Morgensztern began by giving an overview of amivantamab's mechanism of action and highlighting supporting data for the agent when administered alone or in combination with other agents.  The FDA initially approved amivantamab monotherapy for patients with EGFR exon 20 insertion–mutant NSCLC in May 2021 based on data from the phase 1 CHRYSALIS trial (NCT02609776). Furthermore, the agency approved amivantamab/chemotherapy as frontline treatment for patients with NSCLC harboring EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations in March 2024 based on data from the phase 3 PAPILLON trial (NCT04538664). Findings from the phase 3 MARIPOSA trial (NCT04487080) also supported the FDA approval of amivantamab plus lazertinib (Lazcluze) for those with EGFR-mutant NSCLC in August 2024. Additionally, Mann reviewed key dosing considerations as patients receive amivantamab via intravenous infusion. She detailed the use of premedication such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) to supplement amivantamab while monitoring for toxicities during the initial infusion period, which may necessitate additional dosing adjustments. Flanagan added to the conversation surrounding infusion-related reactions by describing strategies for mitigating the risk of venous thromboembolism, cutaneous toxicities, and other adverse effects. And a big shout out to all the other finalists, I was amazed at just how many people in South Africa are making a living out of creating their own content, their own stories. Things sure have changed in the media space! Back to 1852. Planet earth had seen quite a few interesting events in that year. Henry Wells and William Fargo put a few dollars together and launched Wells Fargo and Company, in Boston Harriet Beecher Stowe published Uncle Tom's Cabin, Smith And Wesson the firearms manufacturer was founded, and the Taiping Rebellion in China was gaining momentum,. The British parliament passed the New Zealand Constitution Act of 1852 which granted the colony self-government — something the settlers in South Africa had been trying to achieve for the Cape. The First Yale Harvard boat race was held in 1852, and French engineer Henri Giffard made the the inaugural airship trip taking off in Paris and flying to Trappes, Leo Tolstoy published his first book called Childhood in 1852, then a deadly tsunami triggered by an earthquake killed thousands in Banda in the Dutch East Indies, what we know as Indonesia. This is where the echoes of history could be heard more than 150 years later when one of the deadliest tsunami's ever recorded slammed into Banda Aceh province on Boxing Day of 2004 — killing 228 000 people. Geology is a swine and geological history definitely repeats itself. There is no doubt that at some point in the future, Banda Aceh will be struck by another massive earthquake, and tsunami. In 1852, France opened the doors to the dreaded Devil's Island penal colony made famous by Steve McQueen in the movie Papillon in 1973. And 1973 was three years before 1976, when a postulation made in 1852 was eventually proven true. Amazingly, this postulation, or problem, is at the heart of our lives today. Let me explain how an apparently obscure event that took place in October 1852 led to a host of technical developments in the 20th Century — and continues to drive innovation today - and it has a South African link. University College of London student Francis Guthrie studying under the much admired mathematician Augustus De Morgan postulated the question of proving mathematically that no more than four colours would be needed to provide separate tones to shapes that bordered each other on a map. He thought about maps a lot because he also studied botany and ended up earning a Bachelor of Arts and became a lawyer. Guthrie's postulation almost flippant in its apparent ludicrousness, was far more complex than it sounded. Don't roll your eyes just yet, hang in there. What appears simple eluded geniuses of maths for a century and a half. Even Minkowski who was Einstein's mathematics instructors had a go and gave up - after dismissing previous attempts as the work of second class mathematicians. Little did the world know, but Guthrie had created a question that would revolutionise computer theory amongst other things like improving sports scheduling, sorting out mobile phone frequency allocation and is the basis of how AI works. Of course, just to add a twist in the tail, there's a South African connection. Now back to the maps of 1852 which had just been marked with the newest independent state of the Transvaal in various colours. Next door neighbours of the Transvaal took note. One was Moshoeshoe of the Basotho. Another was Mzilikazi of the amaNdebele, and Mpande of the amaZulu. Simultaneously, a cry went up around the British Empire amongst settlers demanding self-government, New Zealand was not going to be alone in the moves towards proportional representation of some sort.
