Rorie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from North Carolina A&T State University (Greensboro, North Carolina) and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from Lincoln University (Lincoln University, PA). Rorie worked as an elementary school teacher within the Philadelphia School District from 2010 to 2013. Having found a passion for writing since she was in the second grade, Rorie has been word weaving from her story trunk ever since. In April 2013, Taking Wing, the story that seeded her first book, Flashbang, was first introduced to the public as a winner of the science and speculative fiction writing contest, Octavia City, organized by The Black Tribbles, then a G-Town Radio podcast. Rorie read the story live on the air for the program. Afterwards, Rorie was chosen to be one of the featured artists in Art Sanctuary's 2015 Celebration of Black Literature. Rorie also published her second book, Hidden Melody, this same year (a co-authorship with Naila Mattison), which also debuted at the 2015 Celebration of Black Literature. In addition, during 2015 to 2016, Rorie presented writing and personal development media workshops with various Philadelphia associations. Supreme Dow has over 30 years serving communities in Philadelphia in the nonprofit, education and arts & culture sectors. We are kicking off Black History month 2018 with a special friend of mine, Zemirah Scott. She is a philanthropist, branding marketing analyst, personal trainer, and business owner. She has a profound way of igniting lives, and we clicked immediately the very first time I met her. She is a former Temple University and Montgomery County Community College student, and her mission is to supply resources and tools for entrepreneurs and small businesses to gain economic stability. Since 2013, she has been the CEO of her marketing branding company, The Difference Development Group, better known as DDG-Philly in the City of Brotherly Love. Zemirah has truly impacted communities around her by her involvement in small business development, speaking at conferences, and mentoring youth. Her desire to give back has allowed her to amplify her knowledge, expertise, and professionalism. Her vision to propel and ignite the dream chaser inside each of us is everlasting, and that is what she is bringing to us in this episode. Drop the Negativity Who are the people that surround you? Zemirah says that this is an important thing to consider. We MUST surround ourselves with people who do amazing things! When she faced depression, she knew that it was necessary to “be the best me” and make changes. To excel at an optimal level, there may be people that you don’t need in your life, so drop them---and drop the negativity! Zemirah shares her experience when she had promised to write a book, but then decided to put it on the back burner because she had internal battles and a lot going on in her life. On May 15, 2017, Broad Street Review, in cooperation with the University of the Arts' Corzo Center for the Creative Economy and with support from the Philadelphia Cultural Fund, hosted a panel discussion titled Arts Funding: Who Should Pay? Initially, the discussion was supposed to examine funding in light of impending cuts to the federal arts budget; surprisingly, those cuts didn't happen.
