I'm delighted to welcome historical novelist Caroline Montague to the castle, where we talk about how writing offers a refuge from everyday life and how she protects her creative time in her office with her dogs. Caroline shares the remarkable history of Burnt Norton, its links to T.S. Eliot's “Four Quartets,” and the dramatic tale of Sir William Kite, whose scandal, bankruptcy, and death by fire helped give the house its name, alongside stories of the “white lady” said to haunt the top floor. We discuss her path from law and interior design to writing, her planning process shaped by a firm agent, shifting titles and covers, and her current rewrite of a book about a famous royal swap. We also chat about spaniels, horses and the comfort animals bring.00:49 Writing Routine and Space01:35 Career Path to Author02:41 Burnt Norton and TS Eliot04:42 William Kite House Tragedy07:02 Ghost Stories White Lady09:51 House History and Hauntings11:25 Plotting Process and Ideas13:16 Deadlines Output and Titles15:18 Rewriting The Hook16:08 Jigsaw Writing Method17:17 Past Healing Present18:17 Woods And Creativity18:35 Spaniel Life And Social Media19:59 Dressage Highs And Loss21:09 New Horse Gio22:33 Italy And Spanish Stallions25:08 Books Animals And ImaginationYou can hear more episodes of Lady Carnarvon's Official Podcasts at https://www.ladycarnarvon.com/podcast/New episodes are published on the first day of every month.
Today's podcast is with a very special guest, my 9-year-old daughter Ivy. She decided completely on her own that she wanted to start a podcast… and then went ahead and figured out how to get it onto Spotify. She did this without my help. She did this without an online course. She did this without overthinking it.Ivy decided that she wanted to do it… and then she did.And as I listened to her walk me through the process, one thing became very clear:We tend to overcomplicate things as adults. In this conversation, we discussed what it actually looked like for her to figure it out, including the frustrating moments, the trial and error, and the moments where she almost gave up… but didn't.And the takeaway is simple, but important:If a 9-year-old can navigate something new, uncomfortable, and a little bit hard… so can you. This episode is a reminder that you don't need to have it all figured out before you start. You just need to be willing to try, stay in it when it feels frustrating, and use the resources available to you.Because more often than not, the only thing standing between you and the thing you want to do… is the decision to actually begin.Enjoy!Links: Ivy's Podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3FSPsvCO2Cr1kYRvDQ5Ves?si=29df84e40b234502If you'd like to learn more about becoming a Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultantCPSM website: https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry

Some people assume that what makes a great sleep consultant is having a medical background, or years of experience, or some kind of “perfect” personality for the job.But that's really not what I see.The consultants who go on to do really well in this work are the ones who are genuinely excited about it. They're passionate. They're interested. They want to learn. They feel called to support families who are in the thick of it, because they understand how hard it can be.I had a call like this just recently with someone interested in becoming a sleep consultant. She's currently being supported by a sleep consultant herself, and her experience has been so transformative that she immediately started thinking, “I want to do this for other families.”For her, this isn't about building a big business. She's not getting into this for the money. She just lit up talking about the prospect of learning and being able to help moms.By the time I finished recording this podcast, she had already enrolled in CPSM, and I cannot wait for her to get started. This could be you too. What are you waiting for?If you'd like to learn more about becoming a Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultantCPSM website: https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry

Everyone wants a successful business, but not everyone is willing to do what it takes to actually build one.In this episode, I share a story about my kids, but it really speaks to something I see all the time with people who are thinking about becoming sleep consultants. It's easy to look at someone else's success and want the end result. It's much harder to accept what it takes to get there. There has to be a phase where you are figuring things out, finding your voice, and putting yourself out there before you feel ready. You have to be willing to do things over and over again before things start to click. Most people don't fail because they can't do it. They stop because it feels uncomfortable, or it's taking longer than they expected. If you've been thinking about becoming a sleep consultant, ask yourself this honestly… are you willing to start before you feel ready, and keep going even when it feels hard? The consultants you're looking up to did not achieve success overnight. They put in the time, the effort, and the work. I can guarantee that there was a certain level of grit and persistence at play. You can absolutely build what they have built, but you have to get started, and you have to keep going. In this episode, Alyssa McNamara Reed interviews Stacy Havens, an independent college counselor from Student Pathways, to discuss the complexities of higher education planning. They emphasize that the application timeline has shifted earlier, suggesting that students begin exploring interests as soon as freshman or sophomore year to reduce senior-year pressure. The conversation covers the financial realities of college, including how institutional "yield rates," FAFSA requirements, and merit-based aid influence the final cost. Havens argues that finding a "right fit" involves balancing academic rigor with social comfort rather than focusing solely on prestige. Finally, they touch on evolving career trends, noting a renewed value in the trades and humanities alongside high-demand fields like healthcare and technology. Alyssa McNamara Reed, CFP®is a financial planner with passion for the intersection of taxes and investing. Alyssa works with motivated savers, beneficiaries of estates, business owners, divorcees, and pre-retirees.

Vinyl jazz album covers are highly collectible, especially if they are from the iconic label of Prestige Records. These classic and cherished covers, especially from 1949 to 1960 are often even framed and displayed as stunning wall art. It was Prestige that ushered in a golden age of jazz through the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Billy Taylor and dozens of jazz legends. Their recordings were encased in extraordinary album jackets as part of a whole graphic universe of illustrations and photos. Prestige was founded by Bob Weinstock who gave designers and photographers a carte blanche freedom to create art that reflected the unbridled spirit of the music. Those designers and photographers included Don Schlitten, David Young, Don Martin, Bob Parent, Reid Miles, Tom Hannan, Esmond Evan's and others. The amazing story behind the groundbreaking music and art of Prestige has now been chronicled in a new tabletop book published by RIT Press called “Wail: The Visual Language of Prestige Records.” This remarkable book is authored by Mark Havens and Chris Entwistle. Havens is an artist, photographer and educator whose work has been exhibited internationally and is held in both public and private collections. Entwistle is an artist and illustrator who has used his passion for both jazz and postwar graphic design in his illustration work. In my conversation with Mark and Chris, we explore the development of the book which took more than a decade of research to uncover hundreds of rare and meticulously photographed covers and never-before-seen sketches and outtakes from album shoots.
In this episode of Health Gig, Tricia talks with Debra Stevens, co-founder of Elephant Havens Wildlife Foundation. Debra tells of how this labor of love came to be, describing the deep emotional connections she has formed with elephants, the challenges of caring for orphaned babies, and the importance of community engagement in conservation efforts. She highlights the need for education and collaboration to ensure a harmonious coexistence between humans and elephants, and leaves listeners with an impression of awe amongst these gigantic, lovable animals.

She breaks down the importance of mindset, setting healthy boundaries, and managing expectations — not just for kids, but for parents too. Jayne also dives into how she scaled her impact by launching a training program to help others build successful businesses in this niche industry. In this episode of the Becoming a Sleep Consultant podcast, I'm digging into a topic I see come up constantly in professional communities and Facebook groups: how to build a career that allows for real work-life balance.I share how I've approached my career with the belief that feeling stuck is never the end of the story, why I walked away from a demanding role once it no longer aligned with motherhood, and how building a business around my life changed everything. In this episode, I explore:• Why feeling stuck is often about comfort, not lack of options• What it really looks like to design work around your life instead of the other way around• How choosing flexibility and autonomy changed the way I work, parent, and live my life.If you'd like to learn more about becoming a Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultantCPSM website: https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry

I don't remember my first client's name.I barely remember the details of her sleep plan. But I remember exactly how she made me feel. This mom was the first person who ever paid me to support her family as a certified sleep consultant. Her six year old had been bedsharing for years, struggled with separation anxiety, and had never learned how to fall asleep independently.I had the training. I had the certification. What I didn't have was experience with big kids or confidence that came from doing the work. And yet, I showed up. I leaned on what I knew. I coached her with intention. And together, we helped her daughter gain independence, confidence, and better sleep. What stayed with me all these years later is not the method we used or how long it took. It's the way that first client trusted me. The way she valued my guidance. The way that experience made me realize, “I can do this.”This episode is for anyone who feels like they don't know enough yet.For anyone staring at their first client thinking, “What if I mess this up?”For anyone learning something new and wishing confidence would arrive first. It doesn't.Confidence is built by doing the work, not before it.If you are committed to learning, showing up fully, and supporting families with care and professionalism, you will figure it out. Sometimes we are our own biggest roadblocks on this journey through entrepreneurship. We have big ideas, we dream up big plans, but then our own self-doubt and fear of failure creeps in and we hold ourselves back. I was chatting with a prospective CPSM student who expressed that her only hesitation in enrolling in the program is the business piece. She has never started her own business and that feels scary and overwhelming. She knows she will be great at supporting families, and she is passionate about healthy sleep habits for children, but what if she fails? Well, you can't succeed if you don't even try! On this episode of the Becoming a Sleep Consultant podcast, I share: - That the irony around fear of failure is that if you are so afraid to fail that you don't even try, then you failed before even getting started! - How we can relate these feelings we have as sleep consultants back to our clients. When our clients are finally ready to make a change, and try to teach their child to fall asleep in a new way, that's when they can have a really meaningful transformation! - When you say yes to yourself, that's the very first step on your new adventure. It's sometimes scary, always thrilling, and entirely worth it! For New York–based designer, mom, and former fencer Jennifer Press, home is more than a backdrop—it is a refuge that should either soften a hard day or extend a joyful one. In this conversation, she shares how she listens deeply to clients to build spaces that feel like personal havens, whether that means a fully neutral apartment that quiets the city or a playful, immersive kid's room with bold, custom elements. Her guiding philosophy is simple: clients are not hiring her to design a home she wants to live in; they are hiring her to create the one they do.Jennifer talks openly about the realities of growing Press Interiors from a solo practice to a team she had to staff far sooner than expected, including suddenly acting as HR, defining policies, and buying the first company laptop. She credits her operational discipline, her supportive husband, and a beloved nanny with making it possible to juggle parenting, client work, installs, and even postpartum site visits. At the same time, she keeps herself grounded by remembering that, while design matters deeply to her clients, it is not life-or-death work—and that perspective fuels gratitude rather than burnout. The episode closes with a look at where she wants to go next: more custom furniture, collaborations with textile or wallpaper designers, and one day, perhaps, a coffee table book worthy of sitting in the homes she creates. She shares the design rules she loves to break—starting with the “always white” ceiling—and the eras and icons that inspire her, from Frank Lloyd Wright to the unapologetic funkiness of the 1980s. Whether you are a design lover, a creative entrepreneur, or someone craving a more intentional home, this episode offers a warm, detailed glimpse into a life built around thoughtful, livable beauty.

With each year in business, I'm reminded that flexibility is the most meaningful return on investment. This week on the podcast, I'm reflecting on the quieter parts of entrepreneurship — the moments that don't make the highlight reel, but absolutely shape the way I live and work. The ability to shift my schedule when life calls for it…To be present for my family without sacrificing momentum…To rest when my body needs it…And to run a thriving business from anywhere. These are the freedoms I'm most grateful for — and they're the reason I built my business the way I did.Inside this episode, I'm sharing:• What true flexibility looks like as an entrepreneur• How to build a business that bends around your life• The small, everyday moments that matter most• And real stories of CPSM grads who have created this same freedom for themselvesIf you're craving more control over your time, your energy, or your day-to-day life… I hope this episode gives you the encouragement you need to go after it.If you'd like to learn more about becoming a Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultantCPSM website: https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry
About a year ago, I sat down with my son, Sid, to record one of the most loved episodes of this podcast. We talked about what it's like to have a mom who's a sleep consultant, and people couldn't get enough of it! So, we decided to do it again.A lot can change in a year. Sid is now 13, a little older and a lot funnier, and I've grown another year in my business. Together, we thought it would be fun to revisit the conversation and share how life has evolved for both of us.In this episode, Sid shares his perspective on what it's like having a mom who works from home, how my flexible schedule impacts our family life, and some of the perks (and quirks) that come along with having a sleep consultant mom. We also talk about travel, freedom, and what it really means to build a business that allows me to show up as both a mom and an entrepreneur. If you've ever wondered what this career looks like from a family's point of view, or you're thinking about becoming a sleep consultant yourself, this conversation will give you an honest, lighthearted peek behind the curtain.Links:Sid's website: https://sidsrundown.com/If you'd like to learn more about becoming a Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultantCPSM website: https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry
The past few weeks have been full in the very best ways. Between the Jewish holidays, school closures, and celebrating my son's bar mitzvah, September and early October have been a complete whirlwind.Work has taken a bit of a back seat, but it hasn't stopped. I've still been supporting families, checking in with CPSM students, and keeping things moving, just in a way that fits this season of life. This is exactly why I built my business the way I did. It gives me the freedom to lean into family when I need to and the flexibility to pick things back up when life settles down. That's what this week's podcast episode is all about. If you've ever dreamed of building a business that bends with your life instead of competing with it, I think this one will really resonate. If you'd like to learn more about becoming a Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultantCPSM website: https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry
On this episode of the Becoming a Sleep Consultant podcast, I share the story of Mia, a 27-month-old who was battling bedtime, waking multiple times overnight, and climbing out of her crib. Her parents tried a crib tent, but it wasn't safe, and it wasn't solving the problem. With a clear plan, lots of role play, and a fun technique called the Kissing Game, Mia quickly adjusted to her new sleep rules. Within days she was falling asleep confidently and independently, waiting for her OK-to-Wake clock, and making her parents proud. This case is a great reminder that toddlers are often more capable than we give them credit for. With a heavy dose of communication and follow through, even the toughest toddler sleep struggles can turn into big wins.If you'd like to learn more about becoming a Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultantCPSM website: https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry

In this short and impactful episode, Jayne shares a powerful lesson she recently learned from watching the Netflix series Selling Manhattan. When I first enrolled in a sleep consultant certification program, it gave me the information I needed, but it lacked something important: connection. No personal welcome. No opportunity to build a relationship with the course creator. And I've found the same to be true in other programs I've joined over the years.Center for Pediatric Sleep Management is different. From the very beginning, my goal has been for every student to feel seen, heard, and supported. CPSM was built on connection, and that same value guides the way I run my business every day.In this episode of the Becoming a Sleep Consultant podcast, I'm sharing why connection matters so much, not just in online education, but in any business. Parents don't just want a plan. They want you.If you'd like to learn more about becoming a Sleep Consultant, please join our Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/becomeasleepconsultantCPSM website: https://thecpsm.com/Book a free discovery call to learn how you can become a Certified Sleep Consultant here: https://jaynehavens.as.me/CPSM-Inquiry
In this episode, you will learn to spot the emerging trends that are influencing where people live and invest. The discussion covers:
One question I hear all the time is, “Do most people who graduate from CPSM become successful?”It's an honest question. But I think what people are really asking is, “Will I be successful if I enroll?”Here's the truth: In any field—law, medicine, coaching, sleep consulting—many people don't reach the level of success they want. It's not because the training isn't effective. It's because most people don't truly commit to their own success. The good news? That's actually an opportunity for you. If you're willing to be the exception—to take responsibility, to learn deeply, to show up consistently, and to refuse to quit—you can absolutely succeed in this industry. In this episode, I share why success isn't guaranteed but is absolutely achievable. We talk about the difference between simply finishing a program and actually using what you learn to build a sustainable business. If you're considering this path—or if you're already on it but wondering how to reach the next level—I think you'll find this conversation both honest and motivating.
This week I'm sharing something personal and real. Every summer, my kids look forward to sleepaway camp in the Poconos—it's their favorite time of year. As they say in the camp world, they live "10 for 2." But this year, the day before the bus was set to leave, my daughter Ivy got sick. I talk about what it felt like to watch one child head off to camp while the other had to stay behind—and how heartbreaking that was for both of us. But I also share the unexpected gratitude I felt in the middle of it all: the ability to just be there for her without taking time off or asking permission.Because of my work as a sleep consultant, I could care for Ivy while still supporting my clients. It wasn't easy, but it was possible—and that flexibility is something I don't take for granted. If you've ever wondered what “freedom” really looks like when you run your own business, this episode is for you. It's about the messy, real-life moments that remind us why we chose this path in the first place.
