In the medieval Middle East, no group was as feared as the Order of the Assassins - or as misunderstood. In this episode, Olivia and Aran chart the emergence of this deadly organisation and their role in the complex web of Middle Eastern politics. This episode has everything you could want: high-octane derring-do, arcane Islamic eschatology, thundering Mongol armies and yes: even a few scheming viziers. Come for the assassins, stay for Aran almost bursting a vessel trying to accurately explain all of early Islamic history in five minutes.

Recorded at the Currency Press Festival of Playwrights 2025 SHARING CULTURE VIA THE STAGE: Following on from Jordan Shea's Keynote asking 'What is an Australian play?', this panel examines what it means to share culture on stage. How generous should we be when it comes to sharing our culture, particularly when it's not just our own stories at stake, but our community's? What are the considerations and responsibilities when we represent our community on the stage? And why do we do it? Escuchar audio

Stāsta džeza mūziķis un vēsturnieks Indriķis Veitners. Producente Anete Ašmane-Vilsone. 1990. gadu sākumā Latvijā bija ļoti attīstīta pašdarbības pūtēju orķestru kustība, kuros tolaik muzicēja praktiski visi jaunās paaudzes pūšaminstrumentu mūziķi. Daudziem šīs paaudzes mūziķiem bija liela interese par džeza mūziku, un no dažiem orķestriem izveidojās bigbendi – džeza orķestri. Tā notika ar pūtēju orķestri “Sīriuss”, no kura 1992. gadā radās bigbends “VOLO”.

Kate and Molly speak with author and photographer Aran Goyoaga about her new, groundbreaking book The Art of Gluten Free Bread. Aran talks about her experience as a pastry chef, where her gluten free journey began and starting her blog Cannelle et Vanille. She discusses the inspiration behind this new book, the research & development process and how her inexperience with bread was actually an advantage. With the wide variance of gluten free flours on the market, Aran talks about the importance of beginning the book with a guide with the hopes that readers will eventually riff on her recipes and why she insisted on metric measurements. She gets into the photography process, how she arranged the photo schedule around rigorous testing and why it could get lonely at times. Finally she shares some hopes she has for the book, where she wants to see it on the shelf and what she plans for the future.Hosts: Kate Leahy + Molly Stevens + Kristin Donnelly + Andrea NguyenEditor: Abby Cerquitella MentionsJoin The Local Palate Cookbook ClubAran GoyoagaWebsiteInstagramCannelle et Vanille Visit the Everything Cookbooks Bookshop to purchase a copy of the books mentioned in the showThe Art of Gluten Free Bread by Aran GoyoagaCannelle et Vanille by Aran GoyoagaCannelle et Vanille Bakes Simple by Aran Goyoaga

It all comes down to this. Harold Godwinson, Harald Sigurdson, and William the Bastard are preparing their armies, for a tri-cornered showdown for the English throne. But what really happened in 1066? In this episode, Olivia and Aran will piece together Norman histories, Icelandic sagas, English chronicles, and one big tapestry, to assemble the events that would change England - and Europe - forever.
O retsykiais „perrašo“ „The Beatles“ dainas, jas tarsi sugrąžindamas į baroko ar galantiško stiliaus epochą.Laidos autoriai Mindaugas Urbaitis ir Šarūnas Nakas.
Aran Goyoaga is a fourth-generation baker, cookbook author, food stylist, and photographer. She grew up in the Basque Country in her grandparents' pastry shop, which was a gathering place for priests, radicals, and anyone looking for community. Aran moved to the U.S. at age 24, attended culinary school, and then worked in professional kitchens for years. After suffering from debilitating autoimmune disorders, she and her son were diagnosed with gluten intolerance. The very thing that defined her life and work was what had been making her sick all along. It was then that she made it her mission to elevate the world of alternative baking—to take the knowledge she was given and honor her family, while transforming recipes through her own experience with gluten intolerance. Her latest cookbook, The Art of Gluten-Free Bread, is now available. Her cookbook Cannelle et Vanille Bakes Simple was published in 2021, and was named best of 2021 by The Washington Post, Food 52, Vanity Fair, and more. Her book Cannelle et Vanille was nominated for a James Beard Award, and her work has been recognized by The New York Times, Food 52, Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, The Washington Post, NBC News, and more. www.arangoyoaga.com In this episode, we discuss: How Aran grew up in the Basque region of Spain, living across from her grandparents' bakeshop Moving to the U.S. and learning pastry and baking at culinary school in Florida Why she decided to photograph and share recipes on a blog How she landed her first book contract and launched a career as a cookbook author Discovering she was gluten intolerant and embarking on a new way of baking The release of her latest book, The Art of Gluten-Free Bread, and what's in it Tips on making the most flavorful (and beautiful) gluten-free bread And much more!

"St Finian, known as the 'Tutor of the Saints of Ireland,' stands with St Enda of Aran at the head of the patriarchs of Irish monasticism. He showed great zeal and piety for God from his youth. He had already founded three churches before he set off for Wales to study at the feet of St Cadoc at Llancarfan (September 25, †577). In Llancarfan he became close friends with St Gildas (January 29, †570), another of St Cadoc's disciples. Upon his return to Ireland, he founded the great Monastery of Clonard during the same year the great St Enda (March 21, †530) reposed in Aran. A multitude of illustrious and holy men studied under St Finian, including the famous 'Twelve Apostles of Ireland.' St Finian founded many other monasteries during his lifetime, including the famous island monastery of Skellig Michael off the southwest coast of Ireland." (Saint Herman Calendar 2003)

This has spawned lots of conversations about: how long it really takes to knit something, how hard on your body it can be to knit for long periods of time, and whether crafting with time pressure is a fun challenge or just robs the joy out of our hobby. Several pigskin partiers have shared their experiences with times crafting challenges, such as the sheep to sweater challenges, sock madness, and the super sock world challenge. This week, the EAH team sat down with Aran Bates, Founder and CEO of Hydrologiq, to dive into the strategic deployment of hydrogen in the off-grid sector. We explore how Hydrologiq is moving beyond just the hardware, discussing the critical role of software and systems thinking in scaling up clean fuel adoption. Aran provides fascinating insights into distributed decarbonisation and the future of resilient microgrids. The conversation focuses on the synergy between Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hydrogen, detailing the "hub-and-spoke" model that is revolutionizing how we power remote sites, temporary setups, and events—including a fun look at the hydrogen deployment at Boomtown Fair. Aran explains how their platform, Logiq, is the essential tool for managing multi-technology fleets and simplifying the hydrogen supply chain. It was a truly valuable chat, underscoring that the transition to hydrogen is as much about Logiq's operational efficiency as it is about the fuel itself.About Hydrologiq:Hydrologia makes hydrogen the turnkey, scalable and immediate diesel replacement for off-road machinery - decarbonising a US$327 billion global diesel machinery market that produces 1.3 gigatons of CO2e every year. They do this through Logiq - the platform that handles everything from supply chain integration to on-the-ground operations, making hydrogen an easy to adopt and scale decarbonisation choice.Born out of a passion to reduce the greenhouse gas impact society is having on the planet, they are enabling the hydrogen value chain to change how we store, move and use energy off-grid.About Aran Bates:Aran's experience sits at the intersection of technical development, business, and strategy gained over eight years of technology and innovation consulting, as well as start-up experience. Prior to Hydrologiq he spent two and a half years evaluating and studying the applicability of hydrogen on energy systems, now through the work being done at Hydrologiq, they are testing and proving that hydrogen is an answer.Previously, Aran founded his own digital start-up, bootstrapping it into an operating business within a year; launched new ventures inside of existing multinational businesses (e.g. designed and lead all aspects of the physical product and manufacturing for Holland and Barret's Healthbox offering, taking it from pure paper idea to live product in market MVP in three months); and advised many of the world's largest corporates on innovation, including acting as the direct advisor and coach to the global Head of Innovation at Rolls Royce Aerospace.--

Even when we stumble, God's grace restores and redeems. Luis Aran begins this message with Joseph, whose life reminds us that God can use us in spite of hardship and betrayal. It then turns to Peter — who denied Jesus three times, yet was restored when Jesus met him with grace and renewed calling. Through a close look at the Greek words for “love” in John 21, along with passages like Matthew 10, Luke 22, Isaiah 41, and John 16, we discover a powerful truth: our failures do not disqualify us from God's purpose. Instead, He meets us where we are and calls us forward with hope and courage. From Sunday 10.05.25
