We had such a great visit with Artie Kornfeld last week but we never got to touch on Woodstock, the true legacy of this great man. So this week we invited Artie back to have a very cool Woodstock conversation and what a tale it is. Enjoy this one folks it's a beauty!!
Well folks it only took 164 episodes to get to one of the most important figures in the history of The Cowsills and here he is. To put it bluntly without Artie Kornfeld there would have never been a famous musical family called The Cowsills on any charts anywhere no matter how good we were. Artie was the key to it all. Artie Kornfeld is way more than his Woodstock legacy indicates and The Cowsills were an early success for this amazing artist in his own right. Sit back and listen to this rock historian talk about a lot of this 'other stuff' - in fact we got to talking about so much stuff we never got to Woodstock....so next week we will have 'Artie Kornfeld-the Woodstock episode'....enjoy!!

I am a rock - a most peculiar man. Because I believe you gotta go where you wanna go even if it means right place, wrong time. See, I used to be king, a real pied piper until I met Suzanne. And just like a woman named Eleanor Rigby, she said “Gimme some truth,” and then she'd ask me stuff like “Do you believe in magic?” and “Where have all the glowers gone?” But I'm not into the rain, the park, and other things. I just like rockin' in the free world, and writing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

So we were all hangin out at the Red House - Me, My Baby, Not So Sweet Martha Loraine, Gyp, and the Pied Piper of Woodstock, Artie Kornfeld. We're about 8 miles high and we're in the middle of singing the Ballad of John and Yoko when The Devil and Jesus appear. “Hey Gyp - Mainline Florida,” the Devil shouts. But Jesus answers. “Your rumors of glory are just rumors.” Then he turns to the 5 of us, smiles, and says, “Are you reaching out for someone?”
This week the guys recount a roller-coaster of a weekend in the sunshine state as Chris & Aaron Do Florida! One of the more memorable guests from Decibel Geek history was Dick Wagner. The original career-spanning interview with Dick as well as his appearance for an Albums Unleashed episode on Alice Cooper's Dada album were listener favorites and it led to a friendship between the guys which was cut short due to Dick Wagner's untimely passing a few years ago. Dick's partner Susan Michelson also became a friend through that experience. Susan would go on to found the Dick Wagner Remember the Child Fund; a music therapy program that provides musical instruction and instruments to sick and disabled children. That's what led to last week's events in Florida. The Dick Wagner Remember the Child Fund recently added Woodstock co-founder and music industry legend Artie Kornfeld to it's board. Artie will be working with the charity in many ways in the near future. Chris & Aaron were selected by the charity to be the interviewers for an upcoming film project featuring Artie. The guys met up with Artie at Dogmanic Studios in Pompano Beach, FL for several hours of discussion of his amazing career with a hyper-focus on Woodstock and it's societal impact. The interview was a definite highlight of Chris & Aaron's trip to Florida but not the only thing that happened. In this episode, the guys give a day-by-day account of the trip. There are many ups and downs throughout this loose discussion. From too much alcohol on too little sleep to rental car adventures to meeting some special friends while in town to flight issues to having one of those friends come in and save the day; there's a lot to discuss. We hope you enjoy Chris & Aaron Do Florida and SHARE with a friend!Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family.Chris & Aaron would like to give special thanks to Susan Michelson, Deborah Peak, Artie Kornfeld, Ralph Viera, Charlie & Daniella Hill, videographer Albert Aronov, and Christian and the team at Dogmanic Studios for the hospitality.Contact Us!Rate, Review, and Subscribe in iTunesJoin the Facebook Fan PageFollow on TwitterFollow on InstagramE-mail UsSubscribe to our Youtube channel!Support Us!Buy a T-Shirt!Donate to the show!Stream Us!Stitcher RadioSpreakerTuneInBecome a VIP Subscriber!Click HERE for more info!Comment BelowDirect Download

Today, Charles F. Rosenay and I welcome musician, songwriter, producer and music executive best known as the promoter for the original Woodstock Music Festival in 1969. Plus, the usual news from Fun Ideas Productions.
The genius marketing of Woodstock 1969 by any marketer will tell you to set goals, and the four entrepreneurs behind Woodstock ‘69 were optimistic with theirs. John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfeld, and Michael Lang created Woodstock Ventures with success in mind. They were all 27 or under, with just two being involved in the music industry in some way, shape, or form. They mapped out their marketing strategy and had the best worldwide musicians in mind to play. With their hard work, a few ads, and word of mouth, they expected a turnout of 40,000. They wanted a turnout of around 200,000 and planned for that. About 500,000 people showed up.Time to answer a quick 4-question survey? Check out a brand new episode of This Is Happening! This week, Eric Morris, Doug Budin, and special guest co-host Georgie Leahy sit down with Mick Richards to discuss his new documentary CREATING WOODSTOCK. Full disclosure: Eric produced this film with Mick. Mick Richards attended Woodstock as a teenager in 1969 and didn't think much more about it until years later when his son learned about it in school asked him what it was all about. Mick started reading about it and found the backstory of how the festival came together to be fascinating, so he began a decades-long process of making a documentary about it. The result is his new film CREATING WOODSTOCK now available on Amazon, iTunes, Vimeo and more. Mick interviewed everyone who played a significant role in putting the original Woodstock festival together and his film offers the most comprehensive account available of how Woodstock became an iconic event that defined a generation. CREATING WOODSTOCK uses rare archival footage and exclusive interviews with the people behind Woodstock including Joel Rosenman, John Roberts, Michael Lang, Artie Kornfeld, John Morris, Mel Lawrence, Bill Belmont, Richie Havens, and Arlo Guthrie. Mick tells us about all about making the film and what it's been like to release it for Woodstock's 50th Anniversary. Artie Kornfeld, former vice president of Capitol Records, songwriter, (over 75 Billboard charted hits) and was involved in the making of over 150 albums. In the 1980s, Kornfeld produced some of the biggest hits of the decade, including "Eye of The Tiger", Tracy Chapman’s "Fast Car" and Neil Young’s "Rockin In The Free World". Perhaps, Artie's most famous for co-creating The Woodstock Music & Arts Festival with Michael Lang, Joel Rosenman and John P.Roberts. Robin LaRose speaks with the Pied Piper and father of Woodstock about how it all came together.
Robin LaRose continues his conversation with the "Pied Piper" and "Father of Woodstock", Artie Kornfeld, about his strange and wonderful trip to The Legendary Woodstock Music and Arts Festival and how it all came together.
Joel Rosenman, son of a New York dentist, who at 25, decided instead of a recording recording career with Columbia Records in the 60's, to become a writer and venture capitalist with partner John Roberts. The Story goes, in 1969 they placed an ad in the New York Times claiming to be "Young Men With Unlimited Capital" looking for business proposals. Along comes Artie Kornfeld and Michael Lang who were looking to build a recording studio in upstate New York. That idea quickly turned into a concert. This is part one of Joel's account on how Woodstock came to be.
