Creedence Clearwater Revival were the number one American band in a short span of years (1968 to 1971). They had 14 singles that went gold and platinum, and they were hailed by the hippie underground press, while gaining mainstream success. Admirers of te band included John Lennon and Brain Jones of The Rolling Stones. These are select tracks from one of America's best bands ever. Check out Tilt's irregular podcasts at http://www.podnose.com/jaffa-cakes-for-proust and http://sitcomclub.com/. ERRATUM: Three times early on I talk about a 1940s label called Concord Records. That’s meant to be Coronet Records — Concord Records is the label that *bought* Fantasy Records in the early twenty-first century, Coronet Records is the label that *became* Fantasy Records. (more…)

This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with STU COOK, legendary bassist of Creedence Clearwater Revival! Stu visited the show to promote an album he recorded (called "JACKDAWG") along with John McFee and Keith Knudson from The Doobie Brothers. In this conversation, we talk about how JACKDAWG got started, their songwriting process, why the album took so long to get a proper release, and how they came up with the name. In this very special episode of VRP Rocks, Paul Stephenson sits down with Stu Cook of Creedence Clearwater Revival and John McFee of The Doobie Brothers to unearth the incredible lost story of Jackdawg — a band made up of three Rock & Roll Hall of Famers whose early '90s album was shelved before it ever got a proper release… until now. He was a member of one of America's most iconic rock bands — and in this exclusive interview, Stu Cook takes us deep into the story of Creedence Clearwater Revival. From the band's humble beginnings as a high school trio to headlining Woodstock, scoring a UK No.1 with Bad Moon Rising and releasing six albums in just over two years — Stu shares a front-row perspective on the meteoric rise of CCR. We talk about his friendship with Doug Clifford, the origin of the band's name, the whirlwind recording and touring schedule and why CCR's story is unlike any other in rock history. There's also chat about the long-lost documentary, the late Tom Fogerty, and why Bayou Country still holds a special place for Stu. If you love the music of CCR, this is a must-listen. And if you want even more from the CCR universe, scroll back to episode 28 for my interview with drummer Doug Clifford, and stay tuned for part two of this conversation — where Stu returns alongside John McFee of the Doobie Brothers to discuss a long-shelved album finally seeing the light of day. ✦ Brunching in Atlanta is practically a sport, and many of us don't know how to play. There are strategies involved—arrive early to beat the rush of a crowd, or maybe you're a diner that prefers to make reservations. BUT in this economy, who has the money to drop $80 to $100 on breakfast food and drinks every weekend? In our new mini-series, "Brunchin' on a Budget," we look at several delicious AND affordable brunch spots in Atlanta. On today's installment of "Brunchin' on a Budget," WABE Arts Reporter Summer Evans heads to Memorial Drive to highlight Homegrown. ✦ City Lights Collective member Shane Harrison spends his days at Arts ATL looking for cultural events to share with readers. He joins us weekly to share highlights, and today his mix includes House in the Park, The Atlanta Black Theater Festival, and a preview of Dragon Con. ✦ Dee Dee Bridgewater embodies jazz. She takes jazz standards and makes them her own while being true to the original composition. This is something she's done before and since releasing her debut album in 1974. No stranger to Atlanta, Ms. Bridgewater returns to the Rialto Center for the Arts on September 6 to the delight of all. Ahead of her concert, City Lights Collective Co-Host Jon Goode sat down with Ms. Bridgewater to discuss her new album, her return to Atlanta, and to share a laugh or three. ✦ Get ready for some cinematic chaos, VHS Deathmatch is coming to Monday Night Garage on September 26th. Part screening, part comedy showdown, the event takes the best (and worst) of B-movie VHS tapes and pits them head-to-head for ultimate bragging rights. City Lights Collective producer Josh Thane spoke with organizer Kristopher Bolz about the madness audiences can expect at the Deathmatch. ✦ Kosmo Vinyl is a visual artist and lifelong music lover. He bought his first LP when he was just nine years old and went on to spend decades immersed in the world of music. Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1969 album Willy and the Poor Boys sounds like something out of 1965, or even 1865 - but definitely not the heavy, psychedelic late 1960s. But even though CCR's music feels like it's outside of time - or maybe because of it - it became the soundtrack of a generation. Ben, Amanda, and Rich make the case that Willy and the Poor Boys should be pulled down from the cultural wallpaper and appreciated as the fresh, crackling music it still is. John Fogerty is the vocalist, lead guitarist and principal songwriter behind the legendary rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival. With chart-topping hits like "Proud Mary" and "Fortunate Son,” he's helped shape the sound of American music. But for decades, John didn't own the rights to his own songs. That changed recently when he decided to re-record new versions of his biggest hits. In this career-spanning conversation with guest host Garvia Bailey, John talks about reclaiming his artistic legacy, and how falling in love with his wife changed everything for him.
As the driving force behind Creedence Clearwater Revival, he wrote some of the 60s’ most enduring songs. Legendary musician and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer John Fogerty has announced therelease of a powerful new album, Legacy: the Creedence Clearwater Revival years, arriving August 22nd via Concord. The 20-track collection features newly recorded versions of Fogerty’s most belovedsongs—from “Proud Mary” and “Bad Moon Rising” to “Fortunate Son” and “Have You Ever Seen theRain”—marking both a celebration of an iconic catalog and a personal reclamation of artistic ownership. Escuchar audio
