We conclude our ROCKNPOD 2025 coverage with a bang as Decibel Geek Podcast interviews Metal Blade Records founder Brian Slagel! Brian Slagel is a pivotal figure in the heavy metal music scene. He founded Metal Blade Records in 1982, launching the influential Metal Massacre compilation that introduced Metallica to the world. Under his leadership, the label has signed and nurtured bands like Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, and Amon Amarth, solidifying its reputation as a cornerstone of the metal community. In this long form talk, Brian discusses the early days of Metal Blade Records, it's formation, past clients, and plans for the future. Brian also touches on his thoughts on how the music industry has changed, how he learned to pivot, and even how it led to a detour into the hockey world. Want to know what bands he almost signed/passed on? Did Megadeth almost sign with Metal Blade? Learn that and much more! In addition to his work with Metal Blade, Slagel hosts the podcast 100 Songs That Define Heavy Metal, produced by Pantheon Media. Each episode delves into a significant metal track, featuring insights from music historian Martin Popoff, producer Jay Ruston, and guest musicians. The podcast offers a comprehensive exploration of metal's evolution, highlighting songs that have shaped the genre's identity. In this discussion talks about his work in the podcasting space, his thoughts on it as a promotional medium for artists, and plans that he has for his show. We're back to deliver on some awesome content amassed at ROCKNPOD 2025 as we present The Interviews! Throughout the day at ROCKNPOD Expo, Chris & Aaron sat down for interviews with some of the event's specials guests! Up first is comedian and host of Punchlines and Backlines, Courtney Cronin! Courtney has been around for ROCKNPOD since the very beginning and the Punchlines & Backlines show continues to grow year by year. It was a blast to sit down and catch up. Next is one of podcast world's newest duo's Beardo & Weirdo (ie. comedian Craig Gass and Five Finger Death Punch member Chris Keal). It was awesome to catch up with Craig who's been a ROCKNPOD alumni since 2018 and welcome Chris to his first expo. You may hear from a few other celebrity voices as well! Up next is Jimmy Wheeler from the TN Entertainment Commission. In this discussion, Jimmy shares how his commission is bringing film and music industry projects and jobs to the state of Tennessee. With the state's growth and continued presence in all facets of entertainment, it's interesting to see how Jimmy and his team are looking to work with creators and musicians in the local area. Next is Joel Ellis. Joel shares his thoughts on his work with Cats in Boots, Heavy Bones, and more. Additionally, he shares hat a new version of the Heavy Bones album is available and tells you how to get it! We finish things off with internet sensation Joey Breaux. Joey has grown an insanely large following on social media with his karaoke renditions of classic hits. We sit down with Joey to get more on his back story, his influences, and his thoughts on music in general. It was cool to have our paths cross at this fun, rock-filled weekend. This week we take a look at the studio catalog of 90's band Slaughter. Formed in 1988 by ex Vinnie Vincent Invasion members Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum, the duo recruited guitarist Tim Kelly and drummer Blas Elias before getting to work on their 1990 debut album 'Stick it to Ya.' Riding high on the success of singles such as 'Up All Night' and 'Fly to the Angels,' the album sold well and secured the band a slot on KISS' 'Hot in the Shade' tour. 1992's followup album 'The Wild Life' would show solid sales but telltale signs of a tide shift in the music business. Without major label backing, Slaughter would go on to release 3 albums for independent label CMC Records; 1995's 'Fear No Evil,' 1997's 'Revoluion,' and 1999's 'Back to Reality.' Mark Slaughter would go on to record two solo albums; 2015's 'Reflections in a Rear View Mirror' and 2017's 'Halfway There' but Slaughter remains out of the studio. Will that change? Only time will tell. This week we pick our "best" and "worst" song from each Slaughter studio album. Joining us this time is Marc Alden Taylor of the Free Form Rock podcast. This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with former TNA Ring Announcer David Penzer about his new book, "SITTING RINGSIDE, Volume 2: The XWF, TNA and Life After Wrestling". And as an added bonus, we are joined by a special guest co-host: AAron Camaro from the Decibel Geek podcast! We discuss some of the topics Dave covered in the book, including an infamous confrontation between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Vince Russo, but most of this interview is actually about music! When Dave was here last time, he mentioned that he is a huge rock music fan and that he's seen over a thousand concerts. Since we're a music show, I figured this would be a great opportunity for Dave to share some stories and opinions on various rock and roll topics. In this conversation, Dave shares some hot takes on bands like KISS, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Styx, Chicago, and even Pablo Cruise. He also talks about his interactions with Gene Simmons and Rickey Medlocke from Lynyrd Skynyrd. Plus he tells us about some of the best concerts he's ever seen. We're back this week with our long-awaited Best of 2024 episode and there's a lot for you to wrap your ears around. In a time that many seem all-too-thrilled to declare the death of a genre, there was an increasing number of great albums and songs released last year. Plenty of new material from veteran artists was released in 2024 including albums by Judas Priest, Ace Frehley, Marilyn Manson, Saxon, and Accept among others. Lots of newer bands were forging their own path last year with new music such as DAZR, Starcrazy, Haunt and more. Other notable releases for 2024 included music from Sebastian Bach, Eclipse, The End Machine, and many more. Did any of these albums make our lists? You'll have to listen to find out. Chris and Aaron each count down their Top 10 releases from the year that was 2024. We hope you enjoy and share YOUR choices in the comments! We're back this week to RATT-n-Roll as we journey through the discography and pick The Best & Worst of RATT! Emerging from the streets of Los Angeles, the RATT story goes all the way back to the 70's. Eventually, the lineup would solidify with singer Stephen Pearcy, guitarists Warren DeMartini and Robbin Crosby, bassist Juan Croucier, and drummer Bobby Blotzer. The twin guitar attack of DeMartini and Crosby combined with the solid rhythm section of Croucier and Blotzer was capped off with the unique vocals of Pearcy; making RATT one of the premier bands of the burgeoning Sunset Strip scene. From there, the band would release a debut EP and seven albums that would achieve over 20 million in sales. Setbacks, addictions, and even death would become a part of their story and we're covering it all. In this episode we discuss our thoughts on RATT and their discography. We'll pick our Best & Worst track from 'RATT.' 'Out of the Cellar,' 'Invasion of Your Privacy,' 'Dancing Undercover,' 'Reach for the Sky,' 'Detonator,' 'RATT 99.' and 'Infestation.' This week we return with our day-by-day recap of the recent Mountain Music Fest. This 3 day festival from the Monsters of Rock cruise organizers took place in Gatlinburg, TN. It had a great lineup of rock artists including Great White, Joan Jett, 38 Special, Tora Tora, Dangerous Toys, Tesla, and a ton more. Additionally, there was an awesome Punchlines and Backlines Comedy Show that was loaded with laughs. In addition to the awesome lineup, this event allowed us to reconnect with a bunch of friends and make new ones as well. A bunch of great exhibitors including vinyl sellers, record labels, and guitar string jewelry were in the house as well. In this discussion, we share our full review of the entire weekend. What bands were the best? Did anyone disappoint? Did someone lose consciousness? You'll have to listen to find out! We hope you enjoy our Mountain Music Fest Recap and SHARE with a friend! This week: a new series called “In The Shadow Of…”, where we compare obscure bands to a mainstream act. This is not about copycats, but more about artists with similar vibes, sharing a sonic landscape, or whose songwriting and playing styles are sympatico. We kick off this series with a band near and dear to both humble hosts. A band whose live show made us both immediate fans back in 2004; the amazing British power trio MUSE! Join us as we discover other bands influenced and inspired by MUSE's complex yet accessible modern rock. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This is not a statement about bands trying to copy one another, but more that they have a shared sound and vision. It's been said that there is no originality left in rock n' roll and also been stated that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. As always, we hope we turn you on to something new!Songs this week include:Tigercub – “Swoon” from The Perfume Of Decay (2023)Anchor Lane – “Stutter” from Call This A Reality? (2022)VAST – “I Woke Up LA” from Turquoise (2004)The Warning – “More” from Keep Me Fed (2024)Dear Sherlock – “XPTO” from Object Of Ridicule (2023)K Será – “Carry” from Collisions & Near Misses (2013)Battle Circus – “Galacticus” from Battle Circus (2011)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

We're back for an epic episode this week as Ralph Viera of Rock & Metal Combat Podcast joins us to discuss The Best and Worst of 70's Black Sabbath! With their debut release in 1970, Black Sabbath's self-titled debut would set the music world on it's ear and help birth multiple bands and genres. In the same year, they'd release the iconic 'Paranoid' album to much acclaim. Those landmark albums would be followed up by other highly recognized albums such as 'Master of Reality,' 'Volume 4,' 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath,' and 'Sabotage.' Things take unexpected turns with the releases 'Technical Ecstasy,' and 'Never Say Die;' mostly fueled by band drama and addiction issues. In this episode, we each give our thoughts on Black Sabbath, these albums, and pick our favorite and least favorite track of each. Ralph also provides some informative and entertaining stories of Sabbath history throughout. It's a fun, no-holds-barred discussion of some of the most impactful albums in music history.
