Are you SICK OF ONLINE DATING? Finding dating apps frustrating and confusing? Well, I'm thrilled to bring you this episode with the co-creators of The Meetery- Bayleigh Frickey and Stephanie Hilton! Two New Orleans women are changing the dating app world with The Meetery, the app designed to help busy adults fit dating in their fast-paced lives. I'm sure you're thinking ‘another one?!?' But wait...there's more. What started out as an inside joke about how awful dating apps are led friends Bayleigh Frickey and Stephanie Hilton to design an app that aims to help users make real love connections by replacing awkward online chatting with a 15-minute face-to-face ‘first impression' dates. Meetery's proprietary calendar allows users to schedule dates and meet their matches in person thus eliminating the need for meaningless banter through chatting, and even has an in-app timer to keep everyone on track. Built-in safety features include photo verification and meeting places that are restricted to public locations only. During a morning coffee chat regarding Bayleigh's latest dates and how frustrated she was with dating apps, Frickey and Hilton drew from those frustrations, realized other people were disappointed as well, and knew they could do it better thus The Meetery was born. Thank you, ladies, for sharing this awesome app with us- and for talking about all things DATING, today on Doing Relationships Right! A lot of times people look at someone who changes the world and think that person must have known exactly what they were doing right from the very beginning. A lot of times, people are dead wrong. Creating comes from a place of not knowing exactly what comes next, and being willing to try to make something new anyway. Sure, trying something new takes courage; but, it's more about being willing to try things and not be concerned with the outcome. Also, in reality, individuals don't change culture — people join forces to do that. If a company wants to change the world, then they need to develop a culture that promotes creativity. Dieter Shirley, the Co-creator of CryptoKitties and the CTO and Lead Architect of Dapper Labs, explains the creative process he has learned to employ.“We would try all sorts of crazy stuff. Of course, most of it didn't go anywhere. But that was how we learned. Even if CryptoKitties hadn't taken off, we would have learned a ton and been able to try something else.”Creative people often make objects that other people collect. Creative-types do this because creating new things help them to interact with the materials of the world and then shape them into a certain type of order. Collectors collect because these items help provide meaning to their lives. In this way, both creators and collectors are attempting to create order. Today, these objects can be digital too. CyptoKitties — digital blockchain cats — the latest basketball sneaker, or the hottest painting are now all one in the same. People will queue up for digital collectibles just like they would stand in a line at the sneaker store. They'll outbid each other for digital memorabilia just like they would for that painting. On this episode of IT Visionaries, Dieter talks about all he and his team learned when they created CryptoKittes, the limitations that blockchains such as etherium placed on their ability to scale CryptoKitties or other similar products, and how they've applied that knowledge to NBA Top Shot — which are digital NBA and WNBA collectibles they build on their blockchain, Flow. Enjoy the episode!Main TakeawaysTry Crazy Things: Just create new things. Not knowing where everything is going is okay. The creation process is never wasted time even if a certain project isn't considered successful. Creating is about learning. Regardless of the outcome, what's learned can always be applied moving forward. The Power of Fun and Games: Having a spirit of playfulness in the creative process allows new things to be tried. It's also really important to make technology that's fun too. If consumers find the tech fun in itself, like a game, for instance, they'll take the time to interact with the technology. If You Build it, They Will Come: Just build the tech and keep it simple. If you build something, that gives it a chance for consumers to use it. If it's simple, even better. If it's fun, that's the best because people will take the time to actually use it. People don't need to know everything about a certain technology to use it. They just need to be interested in it and be able to learn just enough to engage with it.If You Need To, Build It Yourself but Better: Sometimes, taking matters into your own hands is the best path forward. CryptoKitties crashed the Ethereum network. Rather than relying on Ethereum or any other blockchain, Dapper Labs built its own blockchain, Flow, that increased efficiency and met their requirements to scale.Something That Never Dies: Digital memorabilia is attractive because it never dies. Collectors collect items to create meaning for their lives. Digital items, that can live forever, can provide comfort to collectors in that they will always exist and be there for them to provide that meaning.Trust Your Team: As a leader, it's imperative to trust the team. Even if a leader is initially very involved in the creative process of a certain project, over time the team members working on the project every day will likely develop greater expertise. When that happens, the best thing a leader can do is trust the team. This, of course, also opens up the leader to meet other responsibilities, including dreaming up new projects.---IT Visionaries is brought to you by the Salesforce Platform - the #1 cloud platform for digital transformation of every experience. Alissa and Alyson talk to Write On about creating the adult animated comedy series for Adult Swim starring Maria Bamford and Tim Robinson. Alissa explains: "I had this thought, somehow, that [animation] is easier than live-action, and that is not true at all… and I feel so lucky that I was able to do this with Alyson and that we have the incredibly talented team that we do because, I mean, it's not for wimps." The collaborators go on to discuss what it's like working together in the animation realm. "I actually didn't even understand how hard [animation] was until we set out on the journey,” says Alyson, “but it also is really fun to write because you can do anything, and it's a way to be silly… the two of us together made more sense for it to be animated." Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard on the hit show Ted Lasso, talked to Write On about writing the second season of the series along with his co-creators Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, and Joe Kelly: "I think we were very fortunate that we had our first season under our belt pre-lockdown because part of why we were still able to do, hopefully, a half-decent job on Season 2 was that we had the whole crew back plus one, so we knew each other, and we had a sense of each other… it was not preferable, but we made it work." He goes on to describe what he thinks is one of the hardest things to do as a writer: believing in yourself. "If you do the part where you believe in yourself, which is theoretically the harder part, then believe not just that you can do the big picture thing… but that you can do these hurdles. If every schmuck in town has a screenplay, then you can at least be one of the schmucks." Don't forget to subscribe to the Write On Podcast on iTunes! Now available on Google Podcasts!

In #150, Michael Sikand sits down with Charles Huang, co-founder of Red Octane, the company behind the legendary Guitar Hero franchise. Starting the company alongside his brother Kai in the early 2000's, the gaming startup began by designing hardware for music and dancing games like “Dance Dance Revolution” and “In The Groove”. Soon however, the brothers realized a massive opportunity in delivering music games to an American audience (they were primarily popular in Asia) that were deeply rooted in culture. Despite having to re-mortgage their houses to make it work, the brothers launched Guitar Hero in November 2005. The game was an instant success and within a year of launching the game, Red Octane was acquired for $100M by Activision. Guitar Hero went on to be the second-ever game to reach $1B in sales, being the world's best-selling game in both 2007 and 2008. In this episode, Charles shares lessons, stories, and insights from an entrepreneurial journey building a product that rocked the world. He also explains why Guitar Hero faded away from its massive success and provides career advice to young entrepreneurs. This is a must listen!
