Bible Reading: James 2:14-18Sydney was trying on her new school clothes when her mom looked into the room. "How are you liking the clothes we ordered online?" Mom asked. "Do they fit?""I like them a lot, and all the shirts and pants fit," Sydney said. "But these shoes are too small--my feet must have grown over the summer." "Those shoes are really cute though," said Maggie, her older sister. "All the girls are wearing them.""Well, I'm glad you like the shirts and pants," Mom said. "We'll send back the shoes and get the next size up. Now come on. It's time for devotions." So Sydney set her things aside, and the girls joined their parents in the living room. When Dad asked for prayer requests, Sydney thought of something. "This afternoon I was playing with Ella next door, and I noticed her shoes are worn out--there's actually a hole in the sole of one of them! Let's pray that Ella will get some new shoes.""We'll do that," said Dad. "And let's pray that her dad will be well again soon and able to find a new job."As Sydney prayed for Ella, she had a funny feeling she was forgetting something. She still felt that way as she put her new clothes in the closet. Even when she crawled into bed, the feeling stayed with her. What am I forgetting? she wondered as she stared into the dark. I think Idid everything I was supposed to do today. I finished my chores before going to Ella's, and after dinner Maggie and I did the dishes. During devotions, Dad read some verses about showing our faith in Jesus by helping people who need food or clothes. Then I shared a prayer reque-- Sydney sat right up and almost laughed out loud. That's it! She jumped out of bed and ran to the living room. "Guess what!" she exclaimed. "I think God wants me to be the answer to our prayer and give Ella the shoes that don't fit me. Her feet are a little smaller than mine, so I think they'll fit her. Then I can buy a pair in my size with my own money."Mom and Dad looked surprised. Then Mom smiled. "Sydney, what a great idea!" -Barbara J. WestbergHow About You?Are you asking God to do something for someone else? Have you considered that He might want to use you as the answer to your own prayers? It may require some sacrifice on your part, but you might be able to provide exactly what that person needs. Be ready to obey if God prompts you to do something about it. Put your faith into action by praying for others and also by doing what you can to help them. Today's Key Verse:Whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone--especially to those in the family of faith. (NLT) (Galatians 6:10)Today's Key Thought:Be ready to help others

As Sydney faces the reality of a protracted lockdown and Melbourne's sixth lockdown is extended at least one more week, various levels of government have mooted that only vaccinations will end the cycle of opening and closing the country. Last week, fruit and vegetable manufacturer SPC announced unvaccinated people would not be welcome at their workplace, sparking debate over whether employers would be able to make vaccines compulsory. Today on Please Explain, industrial relations reporter Nick Bonyhady joins Nathanael Cooper to discuss the latest news in the mandatory vaccination debate. As Sydney starts another round of lockdown, we are pleased to say we will still be able to produce the weekly On Liberty -- fitting, considering it is the reason we started the show in the first place! This week we ask, if liberalism falls will that usher in a 'new dark age'? If so, what, exactly, will go dark? Freedom of speech and the press, democratic elections, and independent judiciaries are the foundation of the contemporary civilization, not only of the West but of the whole world. But they are threatened by identity politics, which sees little of value in our post-Enlightenment civilization, to the point of disputing whether such a civilization even exists. We talk to former ALP federal minister and serial social entrepreneur Peter Baldwin about his new online magazine: Politics & Civilization. An outgrowth of the Blackheath Philosophy Forum, Politics & Civilization publishes articles and videos that address long-term developments that are reshaping Western societies and transforming their politics. We'll be asking Peter what the suppression of speech means for the future of civilization -- and what we can do to preserve the future from the depredations of the past.

VICTORIA PURMAN launches her latest book "THE WOMEN'S PAGES"  From the bestselling author of The Land Girls comes a beautifully realised novel that speaks to the true history and real experiences of post-war Australian women. Sydney 1945 The war is over, the fight begins. The war is over and so are the jobs (and freedoms) of tens of thousands of Australian women. The armaments factories are making washing machines instead of bullets and war correspondent Tilly Galloway has hung up her uniform and been forced to work on the women’s pages of her newspaper – the only job available to her — where she struggles to write advice on fashion and make up. As Sydney swells with returning servicemen and the city bustles back to post-war life, Tilly finds her world is anything but normal. As she desperately waits for word of her prisoner-of-war husband, she begins to research stories about the lives of the underpaid and overworked women who live in her own city. Those whose war service has been overlooked; the freedom and independence of their war lives lost to them. Females are the minority in entrepreneurship. Black and brown females are even a smaller percentage of that minority. It could be easy to shrink back in our goals because of intimidation or even our own self-doubt. How do we push past resistance and step into who we are called to be? I had the honor of connecting with Sydney Nanberg the founder of She Did It, an organization dedicated to empowering women to practice self-care and step into their full potential. After experiencing bullying as a young child, Sydyney became passionate about helping others overcome limiting beliefs and become more confident in their pursuits. In today’s episode Sydney shares with us how volunteering for things that scared her and starting her own marketing company prepared her for leading this organization and using her voice despite feelings of fear and self-sabotage. She talks with us about the power of our mindset and how setting up routines and rituals in our lives can set us up for success. We also dig into the practical side of entrepreneurship and how we can prepare ourselves properly as a business owner and not become overwhelmed.  Sydney also gives valuable advice on when you can know if you are ready to quit your job and how we can be more financially responsible. As Sydney says, at the end of the day it is our mindset that determines who we become.
