Have you ever wondered why the person you want to have a relationship with isn't ready, or doesn't seem to be on the same page as you? We want other people to be ready to make changes at the same time that we are ready. But that is rarely the case, and we can't make someone else ready for change. We have to ask the hard question of, are we making someone else a priority over ourselves. Because we have our own traumas, our own experiences, and our own things that we have to work through and we have to work through those and find joy for ourselves. We can't expect other people to fill that void and we can't expect others to be seeking out the same things at the same time as us. Finding joy should be a priority, and if someone or something is distracting from that, we have to examine why we are allowing that person or thing to distract us from the joy we deserve. -- Topics Discussed: Are we ready for the relationship we are in? I wanted to talk to you about one of my favorite quotes. “It is easier to build strong children than it is to repair broken men”. What does this mean? How can we support the men in our lives? I work with a lot of women in my practice who are trying to “fix” the man in their life. Although it may feel instinctual, we have to remember that everyone's healing journey is their own and it is not your responsibility. If we know someone who needs help, we need to encourage them to get professional help. Also, one of the best things we can do is to spend our time and energy investing in this next generation by focusing on spending quality time with our children and investing in them. We are coming to you today to talk about pursuing your dreams. I have been talking to a variety of people over the last couple of weeks and have heard a common theme. They are in a career but do not feel like they are pursuing their passion. Have you ever felt that way? You deeply want to pursue a certain path but feel like you have invested so much time in something else? I want to challenge you today to take a look at your life and be honest with yourself, what is truly your passion? What would you choose to do as a career if there were no barriers? In this episode, I share with you a simple practice that will help you take small steps to make your dream a reality. Life's too short to work our entire lives and be unhappy. Even if you are just pursuing your passion as a hobby, you might be surprised how implementing just a little of what you love into your day can help your mental health and even slowly move you towards a career you are in love with. -- Topics Discussed: Rediscovering your passion A simple exercise that will help you write out your vision Encouragement to go the unbeaten path -- Connect with us! Do you sometimes feel ashamed when talking about your own mental health? Do you worry what other people will think and does this fear keep you back sometimes from pursuing the support that you need? Today I wanted to share how proud I am of Naomi Osaka for standing up for her own mental health. I hope this act of courage did not go over your head but you were able to see that it is okay to stand up for yourself. Being sick is never any fun, it’s miserable. When you add onto being sick the fact of being single and not having anyone there to help take care of you it can be even harder to get through. It’s important to realize that when we feel sick we will feel down mentally, and that’s a normal thing. During those times it’s very important for us to reach out for help. Reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness and often it can be extremely important not just for our physical health, but our mental health as well. In addition when we are sick we don’t know if things may take a turn for the worse, and if they do it is crucial we have someone available that we have reached out to who knows what we are going through. Talking through or writing down your mental thoughts during this time can be especially beneficial as it helps us process through the loneliness and emotions that we go through during these times. -- Topics Discussed: Reaching out for help. We are coming to you today to talk about a character trait called “Highly Sensitive Person” (or HSP). The word “sensitive” is not negative, it simply means someone who is highly attuned. It means that your emotions run deep. The other part of HSP is that the person’s body (or nervous system) becomes a little more attuned as well-meaning you become sensitive to your surroundings, like fabrics or the light or temperature in a room. I wanted to give this brief explanation because this personality is more prevalent than you may think, and is common within the black community. So if you feel misunderstood sometimes, or feel like there is something wrong with you, I wanted to take the time to assure you that you are not. As a fellow HSP and a trained clinician trained specifically in Highly Sensitive People, I can help you navigate through the unique way you move through the world. I understand that it can feel like you are a square peg in a round hole- but the personality you have is okay. She explains that when we experience those self-doubts, they are actually red flags for us to take a step back and evaluate whether we are at the right place that aligns with our skillset. Have you ever been in a relationship where you see warning signs but don’t act on them? For instance maybe you see jealousy, anger, or disrespect. Sometimes we can push those things off and tell ourselves that we can change them, or they were just having a bad day. But we have to realize that when people show us those glimpses of who we are, we have to take them at face value and believe them. No one has constant bad days, and we need to recognize that these are reoccurring tendencies and cut ties. Often we will work really hard to put up with a lot of things in a relationship, especially early on because we want to make things work. But decide to choose yourself first, and to get rid of relationships that do not serve you. In the end you will be glad you did. When you first remove people from your life, it may hurt and it may be painful, but remember that by keeping them in your life you are doing yourself a disservice. Ask yourself if the other person is giving you love, grace, and respect in return, and if they are not, then accept it and cut ties. -- Topics Discussed: When you discover who someone really is. We are still fighting against the pandemic, social injustices and the “new normal”, life can be extremely stressful right now. So what do we do when we begin to get overwhelmed emotionally? We have to take a step back and recharge ourselves. There are several ways to do this. From shutting down our electronics for a few hours or a day to refocus and bring our normalcy back. Other ways we can recharge our batteries are taking power naps that are limited to twenty minutes or less. Another great way to focus on resetting our minds is taking a staycation or going out for the day and doing something we enjoy. This needs to be scheduled in and we need to place priority on it, otherwise we won’t do it. You shouldn’t feel guilty for doing this, as it can sometimes be crucial for our mental well-being. -- Topics Discussed: How to recharge yourself. Taking time for you. Have you ever felt that you were taking on the responsibility of someone else’s wrong? This could be from a partner, a friend, or a coworker. It is easy to feel like it is our fault. Sometimes this is because the other person is gas lighting us or making us feel guilty ourselves, or sometimes the other person is outright pointing the blame on us. But regardless of why we are shouldering this weight that is not ours to carry, we have to examine why we are accepting this responsibility. Sometimes we have to step back and take a look at what is going on. Where is our mindset at? Are we walking in confidence and are we sure we are in the right? If so then we need to have a shift in our thinking which will result in a change in our words and actions. We should not accept blame for something that we did not have a part in. Sometimes others can pressure us into circumstances that are false. The only thing you should be taking accountability for is your own actions, thoughts, and words. How are you responding to situations, how are you reacting, or not reacting? Be authentic with yourself and have a hard but necessary conversation with yourself to determine where you are at. -- Topics Discussed: Taking on the responsibility of others’ wrongdoings. Have you ever struggled to communicate? Maybe it was with a loved one, a friend, or a work partner. One of the biggest problems I see is difficulty in communication. This starts in childhood. Boys typically are told to shake it off and ignore pain if they get hurt. This teaches boys from a young age to stop their emotional growth, which they then carry into their adulthood. It is so important to understand that we need to be vulnerable. It is okay to admit that we don’t know how to be vulnerable. Vulnerability allows us to feel, and understand the emotions inside of us, rather than ignoring them. It is important so that we can talk to one another in a positive way and to be able to have confrontation in a healthy manner. Being sensitive is not a bad thing. We have to get rid of the stigmatism that comes with allowing ourselves to feel and be emotional beings. Mental health is a part of who we are and we have to start taking it seriously and accepting the importance of it. -- Topics Discussed: The difficulty with communication. Do you feel like it’s almost impossible to find that “one” to spend your life with? It can be overwhelming in this day and age and the pandemic is not helping things either. Whether you are in the dating game or looking to get into it, it’s oftentimes an overwhelming place. In this episode, I sit down with Kiaundra Jackson who specializes in relationship therapy. We discuss setting clear standards from the get-go in a relationship and how to spot red flags and not sugar coat them. We also discuss the things that truly matter in a relationship and how to get past the shallow things that in the long run do not matter. We talk about knowing who you are and knowing what season you are in and what specifically you are looking for in a relationship. Approaching it with this knowledge is so helpful to then determine whether you should even entertain someone. On the flip side of that, we talk about how often there are people we can easily discount for small reasons but who maybe we need to not shut the door on them. -- Topics Discussed: Dealing with the fear of being alone forever. Mental health in the sports industry, specifically for female athletes leaves much to be desired. It is no wonder when we evaluate the disparity between males and females in this industry. For example, girls in high-school are twice as likely to drop out of sports by the age of fourteen. This number increases as you go through high-school, and also increases in both rural and urban areas. In addition, women’s sports get less than four percent of media coverage. When it comes to pay, both collegiate and professional women athletes receive 15 - 100% less pay than their male counterparts. Not surprisingly, nearly 50% of female athletes suffer from depression and/or anxiety. It’s no wonder when we look at the disparity in this world of sports. We have to address the unfair compensation of women compared to men and we have to look at the psychological and mental effects this is causing in women athletes and mitigate the stigma that surrounds mental health, especially in the athletic world. -- Topics Discussed: The disparity between male and female athletes. In this episode I want to talk about how we celebrate ourselves. We are very good at celebrating and supporting others but what do we do for ourselves? March is women’s month so this is a great time to talk about pampering ourselves, something we often put on the back burner and ignore as we take care of those around us. But what do you do to take care of yourself? I really want to challenge you to place yourself as a priority and carve out some time for you. Whether this is a staycation, sitting down with a book that you’ve been meaning to read for awhile, or having a spa day. Regardless of what you do, you need to make time for you. Stress can really affect us, whether it’s from the pandemic, or whether you were affected by the extreme cold weather, or maybe just the day to day of taking care of your family, career, etc. So I really want to challenge you to celebrate yourself once a month. It doesn’t have to be something fancy, but just carve out some time to treat yourself and show yourself that you matter. -- Topics Discussed: Making Time for you. In today’s episode, I dive into how we handle life when we are burned out and how we can show up. I want to touch on three points. The first being your mental health. Maybe you feel off-kilter, maybe you are just struggling with feeling "all there". The second topic is your physical health. Whether it’s something chronic, or you are having joint issues or just not feeling yourself. We can sometimes put stress on ourselves that we still have to just push through it. The third thing I dive into is your business health, whether you are going to work in the workplace or running your own business how do you find enough to give when you are drained and feel like you have nothing left to give? These are hard questions that we often have to deal with. Even if they are not everyday issues we still all struggle with these “down” days. We have to recognize that we are feeling this way and not put pressure on ourselves to over-perform but to take into account both our physical and mental health because it is so important for our overall well-being. -- Topics Discussed: Showing up in life when you are not feeling yourself. With the phone ringing and the emails that pile up it can be difficult to disconnect and taking that time for yourself is vital so that you have things to give and offer to others. It’s important to set boundaries to really protect our mental space. We discuss how to do that while still being kind and not just ignoring the feelings of others. But we have to recognize that the boundaries have to be there so that we can give more of ourselves to others. We dive into how both race and sex play a role in getting into film-making in the current industry. We also delve into how differently our culture can be represented by those that are in it rather than our white counterparts who think they understand how we think. -- Topics Discussed: Handling stress and anxiety in the workplace. The importance of finding your outlets. Taking care of yourself with a busy lifestyle. In today’s episode, I wanted to talk about how your physical and mental health are connected. Our energy levels, how we handle news we receive, and how we process all the things that come at us, are all directly connected to both our physical and mental health. Now I’m not saying that we have to force fake happiness and pretend that everything is great. But what we can do is have a positive outlook even though we don’t know what the future holds. There is much scientific evidence that backs up how your mindset affects the physical. This is because our physical and mental health is so tightly connected. We all go through really hard times, and we shouldn’t pretend otherwise, but we can still work on a positive outlook during these trying times because it will help to brighten our mood, as well as help, make us feel better. -- Topics Discussed: The relationship between physical and mental health. With national kindness week coming up from February 14-20, I would love to challenge you to a kindness challenge. I want to encourage you to do random acts of kindness for yourself. That may sound selfish, but in reality, we are so hard on ourselves, and beat ourselves up so much, that we need to practice being kind to ourselves. You can do this with either planned acts of kindness, or doing some spontaneous and spur of the moment things. A harsh trigger word, walking past a mirror, or feeling inadequate about our looks can often send us spiraling into negative thoughts and bring about a negative outlook on ourselves. So that’s why I feel it’s so important that we take the time to be intentional with being kind to ourselves. Because we are worth it. -- Topics Discussed: Being kind to ourselves. When it comes to respecting our children many of us grow up thinking that our kids have to earn our respect, that we can’t just give them respect. But why do we think this way? Our children have feelings just as we do and are often more sensitive. We need to make sure we are really looking at our children. Ask yourself what you know about them, their quirks, their worries, and their interests. We need to listen to them, we need to see them, and we need to really hear them. We can easily say “oh I heard what my child said,” but did we hear the subtext or what they are feeling or where they are coming from? We can learn more about them by spending one on one time with them. When I talk about one on one time, I don’t mean just taking them somewhere fun, but sitting with them, and listening to them more than talking to them. These things show we care and allow us an insight into their lives. -- Topics Discussed: How well do you know your children? Respecting our children. Getting to know our children. We are living in very emotionally charged times right now. In order to “unload” it is important for us to reach out to a therapist to discuss the mental and emotional issues at hand. Equally important is finding a mental health professional that looks like you and is culturally competent to be able to really work through these times together. There is still so much hate in the world. The hate is felt by us and not only do we have to deal with it on our own but if we have children we have to have conversations with them about these issues and work through it with them. All of this combined can exert so much stress on us, which is why I can’t encourage you enough to process through all of the things going on in our society with a mental health professional who also understands these emotions and feelings. -- Topics Discussed: Finding a culturally competent mental health professional. The mental and emotional effects of our current events can be overwhelming. We have to still get through our day to day despite the political and racial climate. So how can we still deal with everything going on while at the same time, keep making progress and moving forward? One thing that helps us to work through our feelings is to self reflect and do a deep dive into ourselves. We need to ask ourselves hard questions about what we are feeling and why so that we can better understand ourselves. Deep diving can be a very uncomfortable process and we may find we have resistance towards it. It is so important as we deep dive to notice triggers, repeating patterns, or other feelings that may be buried within us. We cannot deal with what we are going through until we acknowledge exactly how we are feeling. I encourage you that if you are struggling with the current situation to contact a licensed therapist that you trust, who can lead you through some of these thought processes. -- Topics Discussed: Deep diving your feelings. When it comes to choosing the correct mate we often don’t put in the work to see the person for who they truly are, and instead, look through rose-colored glasses. We can sometimes choose to ignore red flags or things that concern us, or we think that the red flags will go away after we get married or that we can change them. But these are dangerous assumptions to make and get us in trouble later on. We all have experienced some level of trauma, from moderate to severe, and that trauma can cause us to operate from a place of denial. When we do this we make situations sound better than they are and deny what is truly going on. We have to remember that potential mates will show up as a representative of themselves and only show the best parts. This is why it’s important to really look closely and objectively when evaluating someone as a possible mate. Finally, we wrap up today’s episode with putting yourself first, and why it is so vital that you make yourself a priority. It is easy to feel guilty for doing this, but there are many reasons why we need to stop and ask ourselves what we want, and what we need. -- Topics Discussed: How trauma affects our decision process. Do you feel like you can put yourself first? Make decisions that feel authentic and right for you? It is easy to get caught up in what others think we should do, or what others expect of us, and end up crippled when it is time to make big decisions. But when we choose ourselves first, we then begin to better not only ourselves but our relationships. We increase our self-worth and stop feeling that we have to behave in a certain way in order to please the other people in our lives. This allows us to be able to give more to our relationships because we are coming from a place of fullness, rather than pouring out what little we have left. Sometimes we can be faced with very hard decisions when it comes to serving others, but be okay with choosing ourselves first, and setting a firm boundary. This will bring an immense feeling of freedom, where you don’t have to be plagued by shame, but rather walk confidently knowing you did what was right for you. When you think of your “mental health” do you think about your actual brain? Today’s guest, America’s #1 Brain Psychologist says that you should. There is much more that encompasses our mental health than we think and she is here to tell us about the importance of the brain in our mental health journey. Dr. Catherine Jackson uses a holistic approach when serving her patients and believes that we should look at our health from an individualistic standpoint. She says that although we are not taught to consider the brain when thinking about our emotions, we are holistic beings and the way she approaches therapy is one of many ways that we need to be educated on. Today we dig into the development of the brain, the importance of learning life-skills at an early age, why we need to express our emotions in order to heal, and the power of our words on our psyche. This is a must list interview for anyone who is looking to level up their mental, emotional, and even psychical health, because like Dr. Catherine says, “You cannot separate mental health from overall health.” -- Connect with Dr. J: Website: https://drcatherinejackson.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dr.catherine.jackson Twitter: https://twitter.com/drccjackson Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drcatherinejackson/ Be Notified about New Book: https://drcatherinejackson.com/store-copy/ -- Topics Discussed: The importance of trying new things and how that helps with brain development How to start your day (and what you should eat) for better brain health Development of the brain for adolescence and young adults- do we expect too much? -- Connect with us! It is so important for us to express and show gratitude, and we can do that not just by showing it to other people, but also towards possessions, and material things we are grateful for. It has been a very difficult year and now more than ever it’s important to express gratitude. In this episode, I talk about the importance of showing gratitude towards the simple things that we often take for granted. In addition, I talk you through how to avoid making resolutions this next year and instead focus on goal setting, and why goals are much better for us. #gratitude #matana #xonechole We would love to hear your thoughts on today’s episode! 64 - Allowing Ourselves to Heal When it comes to healing and taking time to take care of ourselves, we often roll over ourselves. We sometimes put on the brave face and stick to our resilience rather than admitting we need to allow ourselves time to be human and heal. In this episode, I talk about how we have to be aware of ourselves when we have bad days or when we are disappointed in ourselves. We can be strong, but we still bleed, we still hurt, and we have to show ourselves kindness. In this episode, I sit down with Monique AJ Smith and talk about how she is highlighting women of color in athletics. She is hosting a podcast and launching a magazine to pave the way for younger women and give them amazing examples to look up to. We discuss how the gatekeepers are gone and we can take control over our own lives. We discuss how you have to know who you are and what your passion is in order to fully step into your purpose. Often when we take a job we only look at the money and how much we would make rather than asking ourselves: “Is this something that will bring peace and happiness?” We talk about the importance of filling ourselves up so that we can then give to others, and that starts with taking care of and understanding who we are. In today’s episode, I sat down with Stormii Knights and Tamika Archie of NuVysion Media Group to discuss their latest production and why they are passionate about sharing stories that address difficult topics. “Behind Closed Doors” touches on a myriad of taboo subjects, from domestic violence to human trafficking. We talk about the struggles they faced in putting together a production team from scratch and what it was like filming scenes that re-enacted similar episodes that had happened to them. In today’s show, we dig into the mental health aspects of retelling these stories and how we can navigate our own self-care as storytellers. We also discuss the difficulty of creating a film that caters to both victims who have lived through abuse, as well as those who have not suffered abuse and for them to be able to relate to the tragedy on screen. In this episode, we sit down with Priya, who tells us what it is like to work in the gaming industry as well as in the heart of silicon valley as a woman from Pakistan. We talk about what it was like for her to transition from her home country of Pakistan to college in England, and then to the heart of tech in the United States. Priya is a strong believer in women standing up and using their voice without fear of reprimand or being told to be quiet. She also shares with us personal stories of when she has been both appreciated for her honest and forthright speech to her superiors as well as when she has been criticized for it and how to deal with both. Choosing the right doctor, physician, or therapist can already be a challenging endeavor. But we need to be even more vigilant when making our choice. Often we are diagnosed differently than someone, not of color, and many doctors do not take that into account. We have to be educated going in to see our doctor as well as ask the right questions so that we can ensure what we are being diagnosed with is not just a general blanket term, but that they are evaluating us individually and know what they are talking about. As single moms, we typically have three things we want. A man, money, and me time. So how do we navigate those things as a single mom? Is it possible to still achieve our goals and live life to the fullest? In this episode, I sit down with Kaywanda Lamb and discuss how as a single mother you can still take charge of your life and live your dreams out. We deep dive into how we are faced with tough decisions and often we have to evaluate whether it’s time to move into a new space or if we need to learn something new at the current place we are in. We are often tested but by keeping our eye on the goals, and making sure to look deep within we can get through anything. Accepting therapy is a process, especially when you grow up with stigma surrounding mental illness. In this episode I sit down with Caroline Gomez. We take a deep dive into her story of moving to the states from Puerto Rico and what that process looked like for her. We talk about how she had to hold onto her roots, and her culture in order to keep it alive and powerful. She also shares with us her own journey towards counseling and how culturally any kind of mental illness is very much swept under the carpet and the belief of just toughing it out is very prevalent, but how some of those barriers are beginning to come down in this generation. We also dive into how to respect ourselves and take time to love ourselves because oftentimes we are the only ones who will. Also how do we express that love to others, and allow others to deal with what they are going through and support them in that? Oftentimes we are very hard on ourselves. We think we have to perform a certain way, that we have to live up to expectations of others, that we have to be available whenever someone needs us, that we have to give and never take. But in reality that is not a healthy way to live. In this episode I talk with you about how it is okay to focus on you, it’s okay to ignore the phone call or take the day off because sometimes we need that time to unplug and not have anyone relying on us. We have to be kind to ourselves because often we are the only ones that are. So take a load off, unplug, destress, and take some time for you, because you are worth it, and your time and energy must be protected so that you can be the best you. Negative ions are the opposite of positive ions. Negative ions have a positive effect on your body, where positive ions aren't so kind to your body, Crazy right? Peaceful places such as the ocean, or a stream in the midst of a forest are prime places that emit negative ions. These negative ions are then inhaled and enter our bloodstream, which can have positive effects on our moods. Not only this but it also affects our inner clock, our circadian rhythm. This is important to understand because often we walk through life ignoring the things around us, denying ourselves of things that positively affect us. It is important to be aware and pay closer attention to these negative ions because they provide such healthy benefits. Often we associate feeling good when we are at the beach or camping as just that, enjoying ourselves, but we don’t realize that negative ions are at work in our body as we embrace the outdoor environment we are in. Often trauma that we have experienced in the past can lay quiet for quite some time, and then it builds up over time until it spills out and wrecks our lives. It does this by lowering our self-esteem, causing us to have low boundaries, distrust, failed relationships, and more. It can even make us believe that receiving abuse is normal. But it is so important to realize that it is not normal. We have to work through the past trauma with someone who can help us realize that what has maybe been our normal, is not normal and why we need to change our outlook on abuse and trauma in order to rise above it. Even if you think that you don’t have any trauma, there may still be underlying things that you have forgotten about. In addition, sometimes we think the trauma has not affected us, and we are doing fine, but trauma will always come out in some way, maybe not today, but it will come out if not dealt with. Spiritual trauma is trauma that ensued while attending a religious function or anywhere you get fed spiritually. Trauma that comes from these places usually stems from abuse, and often abuse of power. As a result, it can destroy your relationship not just with the people there at the facility, but with your relationship with your higher power. It can cause you to question yourself and whether you did something wrong, and even push you away from your faith. Spiritual trauma sadly takes place far too often within the confines of spiritual places. It is very important to not self-blame during these times but to seek out help from a third not-partisan party to help you through this time. But don’t hold it inside and allow it to cause you to doubt your faith or who you are. Seek out help from someone outside your facility and get help. It can be more shaming when the abuse stems from this place that we look to for guidance and that we trust, but it is far more common than you think and you are not alone. Imposter syndrome is when we know what we are doing, but doubt creeps in and tries to tell us that we are inadequate to do the task. Often it comes in as nervousness, anxiety, and fear. It can be crippling if we allow it because it can keep us from asking. The thing is, we have to take a step back and evaluate, realizing that we are fully capable, that we have prepared for the task at hand, and have the necessary skills and training in order to pursue and go after the thing that is before us. While postpartum depression is often talked about and discussed, prenatal anxiety and depression is often ignored and not talked about altogether, but it can be just as real as postpartum. Some of the warning signs to look for include difficulty concentrating, loss of interest in things, feelings of worthlessness and more. These feelings are serious things that can affect us in very negative ways so it is important for us to understand. The main thing to remember is that feeling any of these depressive thoughts, doesn’t mean there is something wrong or that you are bad for not loving the experience of having a baby. It affects all of us differently and acknowledging that releases us to understand why we feel the way we feel. Often we can feel unheard, especially if we are talking to our doctor about these feelings and they are not taking it seriously. Rest assured it can be serious, but it is also a normal occurrence and you don’t have to feel like something is wrong with you. There are many counselors and therapists who specialize in this and can walk through it with you. Please connect with us in our private Facebook Group: It’s All Mental Podcast. When it comes to parenthood in general there are so many fears that we deal with. From money, to spending enough time with our kids, to dealing with our own insecurities and inadequacy. While both mothers and fathers deal with all of these feelings. With fathers it can be taboo to admit feeling these things, making it that much harder to deal with. This is why it’s just as, if not more important for men to reach out to someone to talk to, whether it’s a trusted friend, family member, or seeking out a therapist. The main thing is, don’t keep all these thoughts and feelings stuck inside. What you are doing is not going unseen, and it’s important to keep being the best you possible. Sometimes that means taking care of the feelings you are having. So rather than keeping them inward, don’t be afraid to share, but welcome the opportunity to be real and honest with your thoughts and feelings. When it comes to traveling it can already be filled with anxiety from flying, to staying in hotels and not being in complete control of your surroundings. Add in Covid-19 and it can be a very anxious experience. But there are steps you can take to ensure you are staying safe and avoiding contact with anything questionable. In this episode I share about a recent travel experience I had and what it was like in the different cities I was in, how companies were making arrangements to provide levels of safety, and what I did on my own to ensure my health and safety was taken care of. Often the steps we need to take are not complicated; they just take some extra thought and a little bit extra effort, but the time and effort is worth having the peace of mind with you. My goal with this episode is to show that being cautions and taking extra steps can help rid you of fear and getting through your travel experience as efficiently and safely as possible. Regardless of who it is, a friend, family member, co-worker we all may experience someone who struggles with some type of addiction. It is important for us to know how to handle that in a healthy way. In this episode I discuss the importance of boundaries and how to set them up so that you can be sure to follow through with those boundaries. In addition we have to set ourselves up for success, this includes having the proper resources on hand not only for the person struggling, but also for ourselves. And also setting goals. What do we want to accomplish, where do we want to be, and taking that hard look at ourselves and being honest with what is going on. We have to remember that as someone dealing with an addict, they are not the only one going through things, but that you are dealing with things just as the addict is. How do you differentiate between intuition and integrity? Intuition is that inner voice that we sometimes try to ignore and as a result of ignoring it, that voice continues to prod us until we listen and only then do we start to gain peace. When we start to feel fear, it is usually insecurity creeping its head out. Usually insecurities come from past experiences we have gone through. When it comes to being able to discern between intuition and insecurity it requires us to have a pretty good level of trust, so we can step back and evaluate what is really happening rather than responding from a place of fear and not being able to really evaluate. When we throw other relationships in the mix and are asking ourselves whether we are following our intuition or giving in to insecurities, it is very important to have honest discussions with the other person, and to actively listen so we really hear what is being told us, not what we assume is happening. Responsibility is more along the lines of action. Responsibility can be shared, but when it comes to accountability it is the primary responsibility of the individual. It is important for us to be accountable in all our relationships, whether they are intimate relationships, friendships, or work related. What we realize is when we begin to take ownership for our wrongs, and our mess-ups, things become better relationally. Accountability comes into play when we first listen to understand instead of listening to react, or waiting for the other person to finish so we can say what we want to. It requires us to accept the fact that maybe what the other person is saying is right, which is not alway easy to do. And sometimes it consists of us asking for forgiveness. It’s easier to say we are sorry than it is to cause a fight over something that may not be too big of a deal. Please connect with us in our private Facebook Group: It’s All Mental Podcast. When it comes to fixing others, we can have strong instinctual feelings that we need to help and ultimately fix the broken places in others. But we have to realize that we can’t fix others and it is not our place. We can help guide, and help direct if we are invited into that healing process, but it is not our place to step in without being inviting, even if we see reason to do so. Everyone’s healing is their own journey. The best way to start helping others is to pour positivity into our children. We say that our children are our first priority, and we provide for them, but pouring into our children involves more than just providing for them. Are they heard? Are they being shown attention, and are we giving our time to them. This is the biggest thing we can do in order to prevent them growing up and being broken. When I think I can’t achieve something I stop myself and switch my thinking to, I can achieve this. Our words and our thoughts have so much power to affect not just our mindset, but to affect the physical around us. I truly believe there are three parts to manifestation. The first is thinking about it. We have to think it in our minds. The second is believing it. We have to believe it will happen. And third we have to say it, to actually speak it. These three things can help make things a reality. This is a process and it takes time to develop the habits of manifestation. In this episode I want to introduce to you the idea of manifestation and walk you through how to begin making it a reality in your own life. I personally practice this and can assure you that manifestation brings amazing results. Please connect with us in our private Facebook Group: It’s All Mental Podcast.
