He and Grandpa had taken a trip to an orange grove, and they had come back with lots of delicious oranges."Since our minds are already on fruit, let's take a look at the fruit of the Spirit for devotions tonight--the spiritual qualities that come from knowing Jesus and having His Spirit in our hearts," said Grandpa. Opening his Bible, he leafed through the pages until he found the passage he was looking for. He handed the Bible to James and pointed to the verses he wanted read."The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control," James read. And He calls them hypocrites.While words and actions not lining up is certainly part of it, it is possible for our words and actions to line up…and yet the intentions are off! Intentions of the heart matter to God. What motivates our judgement?I have found that judgment is often Deflection and/or Projection.My judgment is a mirror of myself. Unrighteous judgment ISOLATES people, DEHUMANIZES people, INFLATES our SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS. We call this condemnation.This whole passage about judgment is about how our actions often tear people down and don't lead to the right relationships! God cares that we are in right relationship with one another.Matthew 7:5 (NLT)- Before I judge someone and pretend to know their story and intention, have I done the hard work of examining my own soul?Matthew 7:2b (NLT)Galatians 6:1 (NLT)- How you correct someone matters! Do it gently.- Why you correct them a matters! Restore that person.- It matters who corrects. Someone Spirit lead.We need to use discernment to see things as God does. Bible Reading: Galatians 5:13-14; 6:9-10Fifty cents is all the money I have left, and that won't buy much of a gift for Mrs. Morgan, Ivy thought as she passed Mrs. Morgan's house. It was just the kind of day her neighbor liked--cool air and lots of bright sunshine. But Mrs. Morgan was sick and in the hospital. I hope she has a window in her hospital room, thought Ivy.When Dad came home, Ivy asked if he had any idea what gift she could get Mrs. Morgan with only a little money. Dad thought about it. "I don't know. Do you want me to add some money to what you already have?""No--it wouldn't really be from me then," said Ivy. "I want to get something for her with my own money.""Then how about an advance on your allowance?" suggested Dad.Ivy hesitated. "I guess that would be okay. I thought about earning some more money, but Mrs. Morgan is the only one who ever hires me to help her." She looked at Dad. "Is there anything I could do for you to earn money?" "Well, maybe," said Dad. "But Ivy, there are many ways of giving. Your gift to Mrs. Morgan doesn't have to be something you buy. The Bible tells us to bear one another's burdens. What do you think that means?"Ivy thought for a moment. "I think it means we should help others when they're going through hard times.""Right," said Dad. "Maybe your gift to Mrs. Morgan could be something to show her that you're sharing her troubles. That's the kind of gift God gave us when He sent us His Son. Jesus took our sins on Himself when He died on the cross, and He promises to be with us through every struggle we face, giving us strength and comfort. When we help others in their struggles, we give them the gift of ourselves, just like Jesus did."Ivy thought about how Mrs. Morgan was a widow with no family living close by. I'll try to go see her a couple times a week, she thought. And I don't think anyone's watering her plants or bringing her mail in--I can do those things too! I'll do all I can to help Mrs. Morgan.–Daryl B. KnauerHow About You?Do you know someone who needs help? Maybe you have a friend who is sick or a neighbor who can't keep up with their yard work. Is there a way you could help that person bear their burden? Perhaps you could help them by raking leaves, running errands, or just stopping by to visit every once in a while. "She always helps me find the best gifts.""It's not a good idea for your sister to be in a mall right now, Sienna," said Mom. "She needs time to go through counseling and address why she feels the need to steal things." Sienna sighed and put on her boots and coat. "I'm going to see if the ice is hard on the pond."When she reached the pond, she tested the ice with her foot. It was firm at the edge, but when she cautiously moved forward, it cracked. No skating yet. So Sienna headed home, taking the back way.When Sienna reached the house, Mom came out. "Ally was playing out here, but I don't see her anywhere," she said with a worried look. "The pond!" said Sienna. "Maybe she followed me." She looked down and saw a tiny set of footsteps in the snow next to her bigger ones heading toward the pond. She dashed down the hill as fast as she could. As she approached the pond, she saw her little sister step out onto the ice. It held at the edge, and Ally took another step. "No, Ally!" yelled Sienna, and Ally stopped. When Sienna reached her, she took her hand and led her off the ice.Mom met them at the top of the hill. "You know you're not allowed to go to the pond by yourself," she said as she hugged her little daughter."I thought Sienna was there," said Ally. Personal Breakthroughs As the familiar saying goes, insanity is trying the same thing repeatedly while expecting different results. If you desire breakthroughs in any area of life, you must change what you are currently doing. That begins with a change in beliefs coupled with a change of mindset. You must change your perspective, and think differently, before you will act differently, and obtain different results. So much of our life is us playing mind games. We desire to be more, have more, and do more, but we somehow convince ourselves that we don't have to invest our time and resources to make that change. Change will happen no matter what, so if you desire better results, you must choose what changes will occur in your life, instead of letting life just happen to you. Changing your beliefs will result in a changed mindset. A changed mindset will lead to personal breakthroughs. Make Wise Decisions I don't believe it has been ever more evident than today with 24/7 always-on news and the endless stream of social media posts that the masses are being led down a path of misinformation and fake news. This misinformation is prevalent with all types of media outlets, from ultra-liberal to ultra-conservative. Logically thinking for ourselves and making wise decisions seems to be a fading character trait of most people. The conclusion appears that we are losing a large segment of people who are truly wise and capable of lining up their worldview with God's Word. We must keep God's Word in our lives as a compass to navigate us through the tidal waves of fake news. If you think that fake news only comes from one side of the political spectrum, think again. The extensive media outlets are driven by revenue and profits, and they warp their information to fit the audience that will drive the most revenue. Don't be misled, but instead, invest time daily reading, absorbing, and studying God's Word so that you will have a Biblical worldview. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up. The bigger the opportunity, the greater the difficulties will be. As always, we have a choice. We can be hindered when faced with opportunities or take advantage of them, regardless of their difficulties. Interestingly, in both situations, the opportunities are the same; it is all in how we view them. So since we do have a choice, life becomes much more enjoyable and worth living if we consider all opportunities from an optimistic mindset. Since we are created to be imagers of God, we should see every opportunity that God brings our way as an opportunity to build His kingdom. Bible Reading: James 2:14-18Sydney was trying on her new school clothes when her mom looked into the room. "How are you liking the clothes we ordered online?" Mom asked. "Do they fit?""I like them a lot, and all the shirts and pants fit," Sydney said. "But these shoes are too small--my feet must have grown over the summer." "Those shoes are really cute though," said Maggie, her older sister. "All the girls are wearing them.""Well, I'm glad you like the shirts and pants," Mom said. "We'll send back the shoes and get the next size up. Now come on. It's time for devotions." So Sydney set her things aside, and the girls joined their parents in the living room.When Dad asked for prayer requests, Sydney thought of something. "This afternoon I was playing with Ella next door, and I noticed her shoes are worn out--there's actually a hole in the sole of one of them! Let's pray that Ella will get some new shoes.""We'll do that," said Dad. "And let's pray that her dad will be well again soon and able to find a new job."As Sydney prayed for Ella, she had a funny feeling she was forgetting something. During devotions, Dad read some verses about showing our faith in Jesus by helping people who need food or clothes. Then I shared a prayer reque-- Sydney sat right up and almost laughed out loud. That's it! She jumped out of bed and ran to the living room. "Guess what!" she exclaimed. "I think God wants me to be the answer to our prayer and give Ella the shoes that don't fit me. Her feet are a little smaller than mine, so I think they'll fit her. Then I can buy a pair in my size with my own money."Mom and Dad looked surprised. Then Mom smiled. Have you considered that He might want to use you as the answer to your own prayers? It may require some sacrifice on your part, but you might be able to provide exactly what that person needs. "Want a turn?" She gestured to the bars, where Emma was hanging by her legs. "Sure." Harper pulled herself up onto the bars next to Emma. "We were just talking about Damien," Lilly told her. "Emma said she saw him picking his nose in class. He is so gross." Beside her, Emma laughed. Harper forced a smile, but inside her stomach churned nervously. She didn't like where this conversation was going. "Yeah," Emma piped up. "Did you see what he was eating for lunch today? Tuna fish! I have to sit next to him, and he's going to smell fishy." "Oh, Emma, that literally stinks." Lilly pulled a sympathetic face. They both looked at Harper, clearly waiting for her to add something. "Maybe you could offer him a stick of gum," Harper said uncertainly. She didn't like that they were saying mean things about Damien. "A stick of gum?" Lilly burst out laughing. "Oh, Harper, you're too much! If Emma offered him a stick of gum, he'd probably think she wanted to be his friend." "What's wrong with that?" Harper asked without thinking. "You can't be serious." Lilly squeezed herself between Emma and Harper on the bars. "My turn," she announced, and Harper slid off. Her heart sank. She had the feeling Lilly was dismissing her. "I mean," Harper said desperately, "obviously one stick of gum wouldn't be enough to get rid of the smell. You'd have to give him the whole pack." There was a beat of silence, then Lilly grinned and patted the bars. "Maybe there's room for three after all." Breathing out in relief, Harper hopped up on the bars. She saw a flash out of the corner of her eye and turned to see Damien running past them. Had he heard what she'd said? Remorse filled her as she remembered that Jesus loved Damien and died for him as well as her. But she'd been so eager to fit in, she'd been willing to make fun of him. "Guys, I have to go," she said, then she dashed off after Damien to apologize. Still, it sure seems like we live in a generation where way too many people are unwilling to accept responsibility. There is such an entitlement mentality among many people that I find it hard to accept. I realize that others may not have had the solid upbringing and parental training that I was blessed with, but our modern society lacks this same training. Especially as a leader, or person of authority, we must assume responsibility for every choice and decision we make and for every action we take. It is not easy to assume the responsibility at times, mainly when you may not have directly involved, but those you are responsible for have not performed correctly. If you lead others, you automatically become ultimately responsible for all of their decisions and actions. If you are willing to do this, those you lead will learn from you and respect your leadership. Let us take time to train those we lead, which may be employees, associates, children, or grandchildren, to assume responsibility for their decisions and actions. It is up to us to make disciples of those who we impact. It is undoubtedly a principle throughout the entirety of God's Word. A Bad Habit We have all heard of and probably completed many DIY projects – which stands for Do-It-Yourself. If you have ever renovated a house or building, you may have actually been involved in a UDIY project or an Un-Do-It-Yourself project. So it is with the habits that we have in our lives. Good habits are created by focus, hard work, and discipline, which are the core elements of establishing good and wholesome life traits. Forming good habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. Author James Clear puts it this way: Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. The same way that money multiplies through compound interest, the effects of your habits multiply as you repeat them. They seem to make little difference on any given day, and yet the impact they deliver over the months and years can be enormous. Only when looking back two, five, or perhaps ten years later, the value of good habits and bad ones' cost becomes strikingly apparent. Habits are like the atoms of our lives. Each one is a fundamental unit that contributes to your overall improvement. At first, these tiny routines seem insignificant, but soon they build on each other and fuel bigger wins that multiply to the degree that far outweighs the cost of their initial investment. They are both small and mighty. This is the meaning of the phrase atomic habits—a regular practice or routine that is small and easy to do and the source of incredible power; a component of the system of compound growth. Good habits are a few simple disciplines practiced every day, while bad habits are a few simple disciplines ignored every day. Bad habits will never go away by themselves. If you desire to get rid of bad habits in your life, you will have to un-do-it-yourself. You will need to deconstruct those disciplines you are ignoring, and replace them with good disciplines that you practice every day. Just like renovating a home, it is not quick or easy. You just need to start. Sometimes we over plan and overthink to the point where we do not make any progress at all. There is a small booklet written by Cyril Bird, who was a missionary to Central Africa, titled “Little Is Much When God Is in It.” In this book, the author discusses when we daily perform our routine tasks as if we are serving God; then we are making an impact to improve the world. It may not seem like we are making a significant impact, but even the little tasks we perform can substantially impact others. We should never underestimate our influence and impact on others. So don't delay, wait, or procrastinate. Start improving your world today. None of us know when our work on earth will be completed, and God will take us home to be with Him. Let us make the most of every opportunity to improve our world. It is because we seek our creator's love at its core, but since we fall short of being worthy, we seek it from our fellow humans, or for some, even from their pets. We may fail to realize that God loves us unconditionally because He accepts and loves us through His son Jesus Christ's redemption. Because of that love God has for me, I do not crave others' approval as I grow older. God completely accepts me because I accept what Christ did for me when He was willing to sacrifice himself entirely through His death, burial, and resurrection. My focus has shifted, and I don't care as much about what others think of me. I do care what others think about Jesus Christ because of what they see in me. How I live my life as an image-bearer of God should reflect God's perfect image-bearer. That is when God became human and lived among us. May my life be lived in such a manner as never to bring shame or disgrace on Jesus Christ. Instead, may I be a beacon of faith, hope, and love to all who I come in contact with. I have God's Spirit dwelling in me, so my life should manifest the fruit that comes through His Spirit. Creating a Biblical Worldview is essential to have a proper perspective on today's current events. To establish a Biblical Worldview, you must have a proper understanding of God and His Word. This week, we will continue reviewing the book from Dr. Michael S Heiser titled “Supernatural.” The book is an abbreviated version of his more comprehensive book, “The Unseen Realm.” I highly recommend both of these books. Creating a Biblical Worldview based on how the Old and New Testaments connect with God's overall plan for humanity is essential. This book review will help us understand what the Bible teaches about the unseen world, and why it matters. Partakers of the Divine Nature Do you know who you are? I asked the question earlier, but it's time to raise it again. Yes, we are in the world but not of it. True, we have been saved by grace through faith in what Jesus did on the cross (Ephesians 2:8–9). But that's just the beginning of understanding what God has been up to. God's original intention in Eden was to merge his human family with his divine family, the heavenly sons of God who were here before creation (Job 38:7–8). He didn't abandon that plan at the fall. Christian, you will be made divine, like one of God's elohim children, like Jesus himself (1 John 3:1–3). Theologians refer to the idea by many labels. The most common is glorification. Peter referred to it as becoming “partakers of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+John+3%3A1&version=NLT (1 John 3:1) puts it this way: See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don't recognize that we are God's children because they don't know him. In this chapter of Supernatural, we'll take a look at how the Bible conveys that message. Sons of God, Seed of AbrahamWhen God turned the nations of the world over to lesser gods at Babel, he did so knowing he would start over with a new human family of his own. God called Abraham (Genesis 12:1–8) right after Babel (Genesis 11:1–9). Through Abraham and his wife Sarah, God would return to his original Edenic plan. God's people, the children of Abraham, the Israelites, ultimately failed to restore God's good rule on earth. But one of those children would succeed. God would become human in Jesus, a descendant of David, Abraham, and Adam. It was through Jesus that God's promise to one day bless the nations he had punished at Babel was fulfilled. On our Worldview Wednesday episodes we are in a series in which we are covering another detailed review of a book from one of today's most prominent Hebrew scholars Dr. Micheal S. Heiser. We are taking a deep dive and will share Dr. Heiser’s insights into the question, which is also the title of his book “What Does God Want?” God's Forever Family Part 1 In last week's lesson, we ended with a firm grasp on some obvious points. Christ is risen. All those who have put their trust in what he did on the cross and his resurrection as the only means of salvation will have everlasting life. But while we are already members of Christ's kingdom (Colossians [1:13]), that kingdom has not yet come in its fullness and finality. The same is true of the defeat and destruction of Satan and various fallen sons of God. It is already in progress, but not yet fully realized. Satan has no claim—no ownership, no power of death—over any member of the kingdom of God. We belong to God through Jesus, and Jesus conquered death so that we might be resurrected to everlasting life with him and God the Father (Romans 6:8-9; Romans 8:11; 1 Corinthians 6:14; 15:42-49). Nevertheless, as we are told in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ephesians+2%3A2&version=NLT (Ephesians 2:2,) “You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.” Likewise, the powers of darkness have been dethroned. But they have not surrendered. They resist, fighting a losing battle. Every person who embraces the salvation offered by God through Jesus has been rescued, and their freedom purchased already. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Col+1%3A13-14&version=NLT (Colossians 1:13-14) says, “For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.” As the kingdom of God grows, the kingdom of darkness diminishes. It's easy to get lost in the still-present evil and suffering of the world instead of looking to the future. As with all areas of success in life, it goes back to the law of planting and harvesting. It is as true as the law of gravity. It cannot be changed, nor is there ever a short cut. In order to help us all have a better understanding of some of the more obscure passages in God's word, we are investing Wisdom Wednesday reviewing a series of essays from one of today's most prominent Hebrew Scholars Dr. Micheal S. Heiser. He has compiled these essays into a book titled I Dare You Not to Bore Me with the Bible. The father of the Israelites, Abraham, lived 2000 years before Christ came to earth to dwell as a human. How could Abraham have possibly met Christ? In today's essay, we will explore passages that show… When Abraham Met Jesus Some of the most startling things in the Bible are hidden in plain sight. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians+3%3A8&version=NLT (Galatians 3:8) is a case in point. Amid the predictable focus on law, grace, and the gospel, Paul blindsides us, “What's more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would make the Gentiles right in his sight because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, ‘All nations will be blessed through you.'” But Abraham lived two millennia before Jesus. There’s nothing about a crucified Savior in the stories about Abraham. What is Paul thinking? To correctly process https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians+3%3A8&version=NLT (Galatians 3:8), we need to think about the gospel in different terms. We typically think of the gospel in terms of the crucified Savior, Jesus, dying for our sins. But the work of Christ was just the means to accomplish what God sought. God wanted a sinless, holy, human family. The sacrifice of Jesus—fully God and fully human—was the necessary mechanism to achieve that larger goal. The gospel is God’s plan to become a man so He could have that holy, human family. Could Abraham have grasped that? God’s decision to produce His family through Abraham is described in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+12%3A1-3&version=NLT (Genesis 12:1-3,) “The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father's family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. Paul believed that as a result of that divine encounter, Abraham came away with the knowledge of the gospel that God would become a man to provide the means for a human family. Do we really know all the details of how they came to be? In today's essay, we will explore a passage that shows… Charlton Heston Had Company When we hear “Moses Law,” we think of the story we heard in Sunday school or the scene from The Ten Commandments where Charlton Heston (a.k.a., Moses) gets the two tablets from God. But what if I told you Moses and God weren’t alone? It may come as a surprise, but the New Testament tells us in three places that the Law was delivered by angels, members of God’s divine council. Here are two of those passages: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts+7%3A52-53&version=NLT (Acts 7:52-53) – Name one prophet your ancestors didn't persecute! They even killed the ones who predicted the coming of the Righteous One—the Messiah whom you betrayed and murdered. You deliberately disobeyed God's law, even though you received it from the hands of angels. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+2%3A1-2&version=NLT (Hebrews 2:1-2) – So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. I was pretty shocked the first time I saw these verses. And I certainly hadn’t heard about them in church. So what passage in the Old Testament were they quoting? That's the second jolt. There isn’t a clear reference to it, at least not in the Old Testament we use. The New Testament writers didn’t invent the idea, though. They got it from https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+33%3A2-4+&version=NLT (Deuteronomy 33:2-4) in their Septuagint, the Greek translation of the Old Testament. The Septuagint more clearly connects angels to the Law than the traditional Hebrew text upon which our English translations are based. So they were using a translation. We can understand that. But we’re not done. It gets a bit stranger. And this time, it isn’t just a crowd of angels with Moses and God, Why, then, was the law given? It was given alongside the promise to show people their sins. We need to be continually defeating those attributes in the first group and constantly cultivating the attributes in the second group. I realize that all of us slip into bad traits at times, but we must be fertilizing and nurturing the good character traits in our lives each year. We do need to live at peace with others and each year become a better person than we were the year before. There are many references and examples in the Bible as to what type of life we should be living, but there is also a distinct list of character traits that we should have if our lives are being controlled by God's Spirit on a daily basis. This list will overwrite and indeed even fulfill all the law and the prophets and exemplify the person that we should be. I am Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Declaration of Independence – Wisdom Wednesday Thank you for joining us for our five days per week wisdom and legacy building podcast. Today is https://wisdom-trek.com/day-901/ (Day 901) of our trek, and it is Wisdom Wednesday. In honor of Independence Day in the United States, I am going to delay our next essay and instead provide you with an overview of the Declaration of Independence. We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. While we cherish the freedom that we have in the United States and are thankful to be born and live in the United States, true freedom can only come from God through Jesus Christ. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Galatians+5:1&version=NLT (Galatians 5:1) reads, “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don't get tied up again in slavery to the law.” Declaration of Independence – Overview The significant aspect of the Declaration of Independence is that it changed the American “rebellion” against Great Britain into a “revolution.” From April 19, 1775, until July 2, 1776, the war was being fought so the colonists could regain their rights as Englishmen, which had been taken away by the British for the past 12 years, from 1763-1775. On July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress approved the resolution by Richard Henry Lee from Virginia that “these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States, that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved…” This was truly a revolutionary statement. John Adams felt that July 2 would be the day that would be “solemnized with Pomp and Parade with shows, games, sports, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this Continent to the other…” July 4 is the day that has been chosen as our “Independence Day.” That was the day that the Second Continental Congress approved, but did not sign, the Declaration of Independence mostly written by Thomas Jefferson. It was actually signed on August 2, 1776. Other important historical events have had a lot to do with the sanctity of July 4. It was on that day that the news of the Louisiana Purchase arrived in Washington, Henry David Thoreau arrived at Walden Pond, and President Abraham Lincoln learned of the Union victories at Vicksburg and Gettysburg. However, the one incredible event that happened to ordain July 4 as something significant were the deaths of both Thomas Jefferson and John Adams on July 4, 1826, only hours apart from each other. The Declaration of Independence is on public display at the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Archives_and_Records_Administration (National Archives) in Washington, D.C. There are a lot of very interesting facts that surround Independence Day. You would be well served to study them on your own. The United States is a great country to live in and to become a citizen of. Just think how much greater our heavenly citizenship will be. We have to understand that which we send out from us is what we will receive back, usually increased many times. So the question today is… “Hey Gramps, How can we stop the unkindness and become more civil with each other? It seems like it is getting out of control.” Life’s Echo Unfortunately we cannot control others, but fortunately, we can control ourselves if we choose to. Others can be influenced by our actions, but ultimately it is their decision. We need to fully understand that what we send out from us is what will be returned to us. If you live in the state of negative drama most of the time, then negative dramatic events will multiply and come rushing back to you. If you send out kindness, then eventually kindness will return. Let me explain with the following parable. A father and his young son were hiking on a steep mountain trail one summer day. Suddenly, his son slips and falls, scraping his leg. And he screams, “AAAhhhhhhhhhh!” To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating, somewhere in the mountain, “AAAhhhhhhhhhh!” He was not expecting anyone to reply to him. Curious, he yells, “Who are you?” He receives the answer, “Who are you?” Angered at the response, he screams, “Coward!” He receives the answer, “Coward!” He looks to his father with surprise and asks, “What’s going on?” The father smiles and says, “Son, pay attention.” And then he screams to the mountain, “I admire you!” The voice answers, “I admire you!” Again the man screams, “You are a champion!” The voice answers, “You are a champion!” The boy is surprised, but still does not understand. Then the father explains, “People call this ECHO, but really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you say or do. Then the father explains further. The world is a great mirror. It reflects back to you what you are. If you are loving, if you are friendly, if you are helpful, the world will prove loving and friendly and helpful to you. The world is what you are. Each Monday for a total of 20 weeks we are exploring a different tool that is needed to motivate and equip parents and grandparents to train their children and grandchildren to be successful on their trek of life. If you don't have children or grandchildren of your own, use these tools to train others that you do influence. Today the 10th tool from Gramps' Backpack is Patience. We are broadcasting from our studio at The Big House in Marietta, Ohio. Life is hectic, and situations can really try our patience. In our instant everything world that we now live in, we lose patience so easily. If our fast food meal takes us five minutes to receive, if a website takes more than a few seconds to load, if we get behind someone driving that happens to be driving just the speed limit, we go crazy. This is why it is so important that we include the tool of patience in our backpack as one of our character traits. We first need to learn it ourselves, which is very difficult, and then through patience, we need to teach it to others. So the tool that we will explore today is… PatiencePatience is a tool that every thoughtful parent and grandparent needs themselves and to then skillfully teach it to others. The lack of patience is really a sign of foolishness and selfishness. The reason we become impatient is that we feel that our time and priorities are more important than others. Patience is the embodiment of love. Love is an exercise in patience. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud.” From time to time, even our most considerate friends and family members may do things that worry us, confuse us, or anger us. Why is this? Because they are human and not perfect, just like we are. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love.” St. Augustine said that Patience is the companion of wisdom. There is no law against these things!” The next time that you find yourself getting irritated and drumming your fingers while waiting for a loved one to do the right thing on a timely basis, take a deep breath and relax. Ask God for a little more patience. After all, we have very little control over most circumstances and events in our lives anyway. Impatience just makes the journey much more miserable. The world unfolds according to God's timetable, not ours. For that matter, our acquaintances, friends, and loved ones live and grow according to their time table too. Sometimes we must wait patiently, and that is a good thing because it helps us to grow our patience.
