Thursday - January 4, 2024Author and paranormal expert Richard Estep first got involved with paranormal research in 1995 in the UK after attending an overnight investigation at the infamous St. Botolph's ("Skidbrooke" church. In the first half, he shared his latest research into true crime cases that involved murder and betrayal. In the US, you are four times more likely to be killed by someone you know than a stranger. When there's a homicide, the first suspect is usually a family member, he noted, adding that "whenever a man or woman goes missing..the spouse is usually the person the detectives pay the most attention to because quite often that's where the search ends." 90% of this kind of intimate murder is carried out by "an aggressive controlling domineering male," he cited, and usually there are red flags in advance, but they aren't always acted upon.Estep talked about the Amityville Horror murders by Butch DeFeo, who was convicted of killing his family members. Their murders have been someone forgotten in the wake of the ghost stories associated with the home, he commented, but DeFeo admitted in a rare moment of clarity, "There was only one demon at Amityville, and that was me." Estep also touched on the phenomenon of 'serial killers next door'-- murderers who hold down respectable jobs and are sometimes well-liked in their community. One of Britain's most prolific killers, Dr. Harold Shipman, murdered hundreds of his patients with fatal overdoses. He had been considered a "golden boy" and gone to medical school after his mother died of a terminal illness. Estep recalled other cases, including Lizzie Borden, The Moors murders, Jack the Ripper, and when children kill.---------In the latter half, writer, lecturer, personal coach, and filmmaker Caroline Cory discussed her experiences with ETs, the paranormal and the supernatural, and her discoveries in spirituality, and consciousness. She has concluded that consciousness is outside of the brain and conducted various experiments, such as with psychokinesis, to demonstrate this. Cory detailed how, as a young child, she began to see light beings and was able to receive codes or frequencies from them that got translated into a language she could understand. She was eventually given information that relates to a divine plan for the evolution of the planet and intelligent life. She foresees big changes or events happening to the United States in 2024, including a huge economic collapse that is being orchestrated to move the populace into digital currency, and chaos surrounding the election. On the topic of UFO disclosure, she sees more whistleblowers and evidence coming forward though those revelations may be diluted by the nation's other events this year. Cory described one of her ET contacts, a tall blue being with benevolent energy from the Sirius B star system; she merged with the non-human entity, resulting in instantaneous understanding and communication. She also spoke about her documentary, A Tear in the Sky, which explores anomalous aerial phenomena on Catalina Island. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/georgenoory/message

Tackling the story most requested by Dark House listeners, Alyssa and Hadley come face to face with 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York, the Dutch-Colonial house that inspired The Amityville Horror. The best-selling-book-turned-hit-movie tells the dramatic tale of George and Kathy Lutz, a young newlywed couple who purchased 112 Ocean Avenue in December of 1975, just a year after previous owners Ron and Louise DeFeo and four of their children were brutally murdered in the home. Having fled from the house only 28 days after moving in, the Lutzes told friends and neighbors that "unseen forces" drove them out. Looking to understand why today—despite the fact that the movie remains a classic—the Lutz's story is widely regarded as a hoax, the hosts dig for nuggets of truth buried under a mountain of lies and internet theories. They take a closer look at the DeFeo case and what could've possibly motivated Butch DeFeo, Ron and Louise's eldest son, to commit such a heinous crime, as well as what exactly the Lutzes said happened to them in those 28 days living at the house, and how their credibility has been called into question since. Plus, they discover why the next family to move in after the Lutzes was also forced to abandon the home. This was not a happy family, and sadly they met a horrific end, but was it as clear cut as it was claimed?   Sources https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/03/16/george-and-kathy-lutz/ https://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/home-sales-new-york-what-the-listing-broker-must-disclose.html https://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/amityvillehorror1979.php https://www.biography.com/news/the-real-amityville-horror-facts https://allthatsinteresting.com/amityville-horror-house#23 https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2021/03/16/george-and-kathy-lutz/ https://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/story?id=132035&page=1 http://thetruthaboutamityville.amityvillenow.com/ https://amityvillemurders.com/ My Amityville Horror 2012 The Night the DeFeos Died: Reinvestigating the Amityville Murders - by Ric Osuna

From Ric Osuna -When I met Butch DeFeo in November 2000 at Green Haven Correctional, I was not sure who or what I would be interviewing. I found Butch to be very frank and open, even though he seemed nervous at the constant gawks and stares he received from other visitors. We spent the next six hours discussing his case and the Amityville stories. He practically hugged me before he left the visiting room, seemingly thankful that people were going to find out the truth about what happened the night of the murders. But, his grateful attitude would soon be replaced by a conniving one. Butch has become the one thing he loathed the most: His father. Butch is a monster. He is a victim. He is a confused little boy. He is a coward. He is a schemer. He, undoubtedly, is a cold-blooded mass murderer. The latter two serve Butch well in an institution he assumingly will spend the rest of his life at. Discussions with individuals who are close to Butch have revealed a complex, sociopathic character.

After a lengthy trial that concluded right before Thanksgiving, Butch DeFeo was found guilty of killing his father, mother, two brothers, and two sisters. On December 4, 1975, Justice Thomas Stark said that the crimes were “the most heinous and abhorrent,” and sentenced Butch to 25 years to life. No other suspect was ever prosecuted for the crime. Officially, Butch DeFeo acted alone in the grisly crime. Unofficially, the evidence pointed to a conspiracy.

Episode 176: On the night of November 13, 1974, In the sleepy community of Amityville on the coast of Long Island, New York, a 23-year-old man named Ronald (Butch) DeFeo Jr. came running into a local bar. He was distraught and claiming his whole family, his mother and father and 4 siblings, had been murdered in their home, a large Dutch Colonial house located at 112 Ocean Avenue. However, it was later determined it was Butch himself who'd annihilated his family. A year later, Butch was convicted on six counts of second-degree murder and received an equal number of sentences of 25 years to life in prison for slaughtering his family as they slept. A month after Butch DeFeo's conviction, the Lutz family, Kathy, George and their three kids moved into the property having purchased it for a steal, $80,000. But, after only 28 days in the house, the Lutz family fled. They claimed they'd been chased out by relentless psychic torture inflicted on them by some unseen presence; they thought demonic, who'd made life in the house impossible. A 1977 book on the case by author Jay Anson titled The Amityville Horror, and subsequent film in 1979 introduced the story to an international audience and has become one of the most well-known, most covered and at the same time, controversial tales of hauntings and demonic possession in history. At about 3:15 a.m. on November 13, 1974, Butch Defeo went through the house at 112 Ocean Avenue with a 35-caliber, lever-action Marlin 336C rifle, methodically shooting his parents, brothers and sisters.  Ronald, Sr. and Louise were first.  They were each shot twice in the back as they slept.  His three younger siblings were next.  Allison, Matthew and John, whose bedrooms were on the 2nd floor, were murdered next, were each shot one in the back while they slept.  Finally, Defeo shot his 18-year old sister, Dawn, who slept on the third floor, in the back.  Defeo then threw his rifle in the waterway behind the house, collected evidence into a pillowcase, showered, changed clothing and left the house.  On the way to the car dealership where he worked in Brooklyn, Defeo threw his bloody clothing and other evidence into a storm drain.  After 6:00 p.m. that evening, Defeo rushed into Harry’s Bar, claiming to have just discovered his parents murdered.  He then summoned the bar’s patrons to the house, to discover the gruesome murders.  Join Lisa O’Brien and Michael Carnahan on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at 8:00 p.m. Central for Clear and Convincing Episode 22, Halloween Special.  First, we’ll talk about State of New York v. Ronald Joseph Defeo, Jr. and the infamous murders of the Defeo Family.  Then, we’ll talk about the Amityville Horror, a story that may have been invented by parties hoping to reduce Butch Defeo’s culpability.  Finally, we’ll talk about Defeo’s ever-changing claims regarding the events of November 13, 1974.

É quinta-feira, é dia de arrepios! Brrr!

112 Ocean Avenue is perhaps one of the scariest homes in crime history. Better known as the Amityville Horror House, this was once the home of the Lutz family. But what caused the demonic activity? Was it the murder of almost the whole DeFeo family a year before George and Kathy Lutz moved in? Or was there something much more sinister laying beneath the surface of Butch DeFeo and his lawyer? Part one of two. ---------- Written and produced by Schuyler Fastenau with the voice talents of Joe Burns, Brian J McCombs, Nikcoma Mahkewa, Sandy McCabe, Rick Turpin, Daniel Jones, Jacob Wallie, Kaitlyn Brown, Jessica Miano Kruel, David Meneses, and Marina Delgado. In November of 1974, 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York was the scene of the gruesome mass killing of the DeFeo family by their older son, Butch Defeo.  14 months later, the next residents of this house fled their property due to a series of terrifying paranormal experiences.
