(So apparently I'm just now noticing this episode never uploaded, smh. Well it's late but here it is y'all! Not sure what happened lol!)Happy Halloween y'all. On Midnight Ghost Stories and In the Eyes of True Crime, I will be talking about the Amityville house, the DeFeo murders, the Lutz family hauntings and Ed and Lorraine Warren's investigation of this house. To this day, many people think the Lutz family's paranormal experience in the house was a hoax, but the Warrens thought differently. Since this case ties into true crime and paranormal, I figured why not talk about it on both podcasts? I hope y'all enjoy! Stemming from the original movie from 1979, the general consensus states that the 2005 rendition is an over exaggeration. I will have to say that I disagree because it has proven to be a terrific movie with fast and furious energy, a lot of jolts that never linger, and the morbidly horrific images anchor the strong characters. One character in specific is Jodie Defeo, played by the talented Isabel Champ Connor who flawlessly delivered her role by submerging herself into this movie.20 years later and this movie still creeps me to the core! I sat down with Isabel to get to know her and what it was like to act in the reboot of the original 1979 film and what he had to say is priceless information. This being her movie debut, I have to say that Isabel was given the role of Jodie Defeo and she delivered! Being only 8 years old, she had to play a pivotal role in the film. Most fans wouldn't know this because in the original 1979 film, Jodie is not what you think she is. However, I am glad the writers made the change, and the director chose Isabel for this movie, it made it much more believable. With that being said, Isabel has landed herself on the paranormal and supernatural map and I am honored to have sat down with her. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did, and please follow Isabel on Facebook and let her know how well she did in the movie.
What a thrill to interview my oldest daughter and one of her very best friends. Ella and Landry have been friends since 3rd grade and it's so special to hear from two young women that are keeping their faith a priority in college. I ask them about their “favorites” from tennis shoes to rom-coms and then we get into some more serious topics. My favorite moment is when I ask each of them, “What is God teaching you right now?” I was blown away by their answers and also felt so thankful that they are both engaged in their college church communities. Ask your kiddos that question this Christmas break and let them share about their faith. I am always astounded when I learn how much depth and wisdom is in these teens. They are wiser than you know. You also don't want to miss my opening story about an “elf on the shelf” adventure gone wrong. I am still feeling a little rattled from it. Hello Poison Friends! It was still Spooky Season while I was researching for this episode, so we are still on this spooky stuff! This week, I want to talk about a controversial couple who claimed to be self taught demonologists and paranormal experts. Ed and Lorraine Warren are famous for investigating such hauntings as those seen in the Conjuring series, Annabelle, and the Amityville haunting. These are not the only cases they worked on, but it is their most famous. You may have already noticed, but Adam is not with me today. He is sick with a not so fun cold, and one of my besties, Lynn Rockett has been kind enough to take his place for this episode. She knows horror movies like the ones we are mentioning so this will be fun. Annabelle, as many of you may already know, is considered to be a cursed or possessed doll with a violent history--if you believe the Warren's stories, at least. This doll has reportedly moved on its own, written ominous notes, somehow stained itself with what looks like blood, and has even attacked a select few directly and indirectly. One of the Warren's stories claims the doll has killed at least one person while in their possession. The Warrens also worked on the hauntings of he Perron in Rhode Island and a family in Enfield, England. The two separate incidents boasted similar happenings such as strange noises, moving furniture, and basic assault of those living in the homes. There are skeptics who believe the Warrens involvement in these cases were based on fraud, exaggeration, or straight up lies, so let's cover the details and witness accounts on all sides. Finally, we need to cover the Amityville haunting. Before we do, however, we need to briefly go over the DeFeo murders that took place in the house where the hauntings were said to have occurred. When the Lutz family moved in little over a year after the brutal crime that took place there, they started experiencing strange sensations and sounds. This escalated to phenomena such as levitation, swarms of flies, and smells and stains showing up in random places. Even this case had its skeptics however, and there were some interesting confessions that came later. The Warrens were well known for their paranormal investigations and their occult museum. It was not until after Ed's death, however, that some controversies worse than lies and fraud about demons and hauntings would come out, and much of the truth about them still feels hidden. Before there was a “haunted house,” there was a family. And before The Amityville Horror became a pop-culture phenomenon, there was a very real crime scene — six members of the DeFeo family, murdered in their beds on November 13, 1974. In this Hidden Killers deep-dive, Tony Brueski strips away the myth and exposes the true story of Ronald DeFeo Jr. — the 23-year-old son who turned a picture-perfect Long Island home into one of the darkest chapters in American true-crime history. This isn't about ghosts. It's about control, pressure, and collapse inside a family that looked flawless from the outside. Through court records, trial transcripts, and eyewitness accounts, we unravel the DeFeo family's life before the murders — a world of strict rules, generational pride, and a father-son relationship that spiraled from conflict to catastrophe. What happened inside 112 Ocean Avenue wasn't supernatural. It was psychological. A slow burn of resentment, addiction, and identity loss that ended with a rifle and six bodies. Ronald “Butch” DeFeo Jr. claimed he heard voices telling him to kill. The jury didn't believe him. He was convicted on six counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to six consecutive life terms. He died in prison in 2021 — leaving behind a trail of lies, contradictions, and one chilling constant: he never showed remorse. Decades later, the Amityville myth still overshadows the truth. This episode reclaims it. Because before it was a franchise, it was a family. And the real horror wasn't the house — it was what happened inside it.

In 1974, six members of the DeFeo family were found murdered in their home in Amityville, New York. And the scene of the crime was troubling... in fact, curiously, it appeared as if none of the family members had awoken while the others were being murdered. And when a suspect was finally arrested, and he began speaking to investigators about the voices in his head that told him to kill, things just kept getting stranger and stranger. This is one of the most infamous true crime stories in American history, and the case that inspired the film series "The Amityville Horror". In the latest episode of The Digital Banking Podcast, host Josh DeTar sat down with Katie DeFeo, VP and Chief Experience Officer at SunWest Credit Union. They explored how credit unions could stand out in a crowded digital landscape by leading with authenticity and human connection, even as banking became more commoditized and tech-driven.DeFeo explained why building a genuine, approachable brand mattered more than ever. She shared how SunWest focused on delivering experiences that felt personal—whether in a branch or through a mobile app. For DeFeo, it was not enough to match rates or adopt the latest technology. Instead, she encouraged credit unions to communicate in plain language, share real stories, and empower staff to help members in memorable ways. The conversation highlighted the challenge of scaling digital transformation without losing soul. DeFeo described SunWest's approach to blending technology with bold, human storytelling, and why being willing to disrupt old habits was key to staying relevant.

Send us a textHi everybody and welcome to Attendance Bias. I am your host Brian Weinstein. Today, we continue our 2025 miniseries where we preview each venue on Phish's late summer tour by visiting an old favorite: the Ameris Bank Amphitheater in Alpharetta, GA–colloquially known simply as “Alpharetta.” And when I say “an old favorite,” I mean for the band and fans.Today's guest -Dave Defeo–has never missed a Phish show at Alpharetta, and has lived in the area for over two decades, so he's well equipped to give us the skinny on the amphitheater and its surrounding area. What I love most about this episode is that, since Phish has been playing Alpharetta for 15 years, there's not too much new information to give about it (although we do our best), but there is a treasure trove of Phish history at Alpharetta. I don't have the patience or capacity to check this, but I think there are more musical clips in today's episode than any previous Attendance Bias episode. All good ones, too!More than that, Dave owns and operates a restaurant just outside Atlanta called “My Parents' Basement” that sounds like a dream come true–food, arcade games, comic books–all the stuff you wish you had in one place. But he'll describe it more in just a few minutes. So let's talk about pinball, Lakewood, and Rage Against the Machine with Dave DeFeo to get ready for September 16 and 17 at the Ameris Bank Amphitheater in Alpharetta.Support the show

Amityville is synonymous with horror movies, but that's because of a real-life tragedy that happened on 13th November, 1974, when Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his parents and his four younger siblings. Initially, he claimed a mob hitman was responsible, but later confessed to the crimes. After the murders, newlyweds George and Kathy Lutz moved in to the DeFeo house, bringing along Kathy's three children and their dog, Harry. Within 28 days, however, they'd fled, claiming paranormal experiences on the property, from swarms of flies to visions of a demonic pig. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly reveal what happened when the Lutzes took a polygraph test; explain how their story snowballed into first a bestselling book, then a movie franchise; and consider how the town has coped with its consequent celebrity status… Further Reading: • ‘Amityville Murders: The True Story Of The Killings That Inspired The Movie' (All Thats Interesting, 2022): https://allthatsinteresting.com/amityville-murders • 'The Amityville Horror House' (Long Island Guide): https://www.longislandguide.com/visit/amityville-horror-house/ • ‘THE AMITYVILLE HORROR' (MGM, 1979): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbCJv_vWyQA Love the show? This year for Halloween I wanted to do something truly special: our first two-part series. The story of the Amityville Horror is one of the most well-known and controversial murders and paranormal investigations of all time. There have been countless retellings and spin-offs based on the case, but have you ever heard the story from someone who was actually there? Today reporter, Laura Didio, shares with us her firsthand account of working on the Amityville case. Prepare yourself as we dive deep into some of the lesser known aspects of the Defeo murders, the Lutzs' haunting experiences, and the investigation of the home with Ed and Lorraine Warren. Join us this Halloween as we Analyze Amityville.
On December 18, 1975, George and Kathy Lutz moved their family into their new house on Ocean Avenue in Amityville, NY, where, just one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo Jr. had murdered all six members of his family. Twenty-eight days later, the Lutz family fled the home, leaving behind all their belongings and vowing never to return again. According to the Lutzes, their time in the house on Ocean Avenue was a nightmare of psychic attacks and demonic activity that put them in fear for their lives. The supposed experience of the Lutz family served as the basis for the iconic haunted house story, The Amityville Horror, and the countless films adapted from or inspired by the original novel. However, unlike most other stories of paranormal experiences, The Amityville Horror became a phenomenon that influenced everything from Ronald DeFeo's criminal defense to the American public's belief in the supernatural. Yet for all their talk of it being a genuine story of demonic activity, in the years since the publication of The Amityville Horror, a large body of evidence from skeptical evaluations to court records and interview transcripts suggest that America's most notorious haunted house might not have been quite so haunted after all.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!!ReferencesAnsen, Jay. 1978. On the evening of November 13, 1974, twenty-three-year-old Ronald DeFeo Jr. burst through the door of Henry's Bar in Amityville, Long Island, frantically yelling for help and telling the patrons that someone had killed his parents. When a small group returned to the house with DeFeo, they discovered that not only had his parents, Louise and Ronald Sr., been killed, but so had his four brothers and sisters—all shot to death in their beds with a .35 caliber rifle.During a police interview that night, investigators became suspicious of Ronald DeFeo. Not only was his story of a mob hit difficult to believe, but he seemed incapable of keeping certain aspects of his story straight during the interview. The next day, DeFeo broke down and confessed to the murders, explaining that he had hated his father and telling investigators, “Once I started [shooting], I just couldn't stop.”Ronald DeFeo's trial was one of New York's biggest news stories of 1975 and attracted considerable attention due to his attempt to mount an insanity defense and his frequent outbursts in the courtroom. In the end, the defense was unsuccessful and DeFeo was convicted of the murders and sentenced to life in prison. DeFeo's conviction should have been the end of the story, but it turned out it was only the beginning of what would eventually become one of the most notorious supernatural claims in American history.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!!ReferencesCarter, A.J., Soper Susan , Dallas Gatewood, and Sam Washington. 1974.
