We also learned that devotion to God is not always applauded. Sometimes it is misunderstood. Sometimes it is mocked, and sometimes it is despised. But here's the beautiful truth: Even when devotion is despised by others, worship must continue. And that brings us to 1 Chronicles 16, one of the most joyful, worship‑filled chapters in the entire Old Testament. If chapter 15 was about bringing the Ark to Jerusalem, chapter 16 is about what happens once it arrives. This chapter is a call to worship, not just for David, not just for Israel, but for us. Because worship is not a reaction to circumstances, and worship is not dependent on approval. Worship is not shaped by the opinions of others.  Worship is the natural overflow of a heart that knows who God is and what God has done This chapter shows us what worship looks like when God is at the center. It shows us how worship can shape a community. It shows us how worship strengthens a believer, and it shows us how worship becomes a witness to the world. Support the showThis podcast is not associated with the Bible Project YouTube channel or any other associated podcasts that use the name 'Bible Project'. This week we begin a new series in Psalms: the Book of Worship. Humanity was created to participate in the greatest joy there is - worship. How do we get more of that joy in our lives? How can it be something practical that is a part of our daily routines? We're going to take the summer to soak on the history of how God's people look to His Word to draw near to him in worship - what worship means and even how we got the component 'parts' of our worship services. Why do we do what we do weekly? How is that meant to show us who God is and more deeply connect us to Him? So we begin our series in the same way we begin our weekly services: with the "Call to Worship" (Psalm 147)

What if you were never meant to sit on the sidelines of your own faith? In Part One of our brand new series ARISE: The Call to Worship, we open in 1 Peter 2 and discover something that changes everything — you are not a spectator. You are a living stone. And the God of the universe has been looking for a home in you. This message will challenge the way you think about worship, about why you gather, and about what is actually at stake when God's people come together with wholehearted hearts. Because here's the truth: the life of a church will only rise as high as its worship. And God is not looking for perfect singers — He is looking for surrendered hearts. In this sermon we unpack: — Why God has always been searching for a dwelling place on Earth — The epic biblical journey from Eden to the Church that puts YOU in the story — Why your worship is never just personal — it is part of something far bigger — What it means to be built together as a spiritual house for God's presence Whether you've been in church your whole life or you're just beginning to explore faith, this message will call you higher. You were made for this. It's time to arise. ─────────────────────────────

First impressions matter. How you start something sets the tone for the whole. This is even true of our weekly worship service. At All Souls, our service begins with the Call to Worship, which is biblically rooted, deeply meaningful, and significant. Pastor Josué Pernillo explains more in this sermon on Isaiah 55:1–5 and John 4:23 through four points: God is the one who calls us to worship; we are hearing that call weekly; in worship, we receive the welcome of God; and in response, we worship and welcome. Part of a series on the book of Revelation. As we continue our summer corporate gatherings, Michael reminds us that God's desire has always been the same: a people who belong fully to Him. Throughout Scripture, God calls His people a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a people set apart for His purposes. Worship is one of the primary ways we respond to that calling.   This message challenges us to see worship as more than singing songs or participating in a gathering. Worship is the exaltation of Jesus in the place of our affection, loyalty, attention, and desire. Every person is a worshiper. The question is not whether we worship, but what or who has captured the highest place in our hearts.   This message calls us to examine what has been competing for our devotion and to lift Jesus back to the highest place. When Christ is exalted, everything else finds its proper place. This is an invitation to become a truly priestly people whose lives declare the greatness of God both inside and outside the gathering.

We're in the book of Exodus and we're seeing this troubling situation where God hardens Pharaoh's heart yet still holds him accountable for his actions. This unsettles us and our immediate response is to get angry and cry "Foul! That's unjust!" Paul deals with this topic in Romans 9 and uses a number of Old Testament passages to show us something profound about ourselves and more importantly, something utterly profound and unexpected about God.  And surprisingly, the result won't be anger, confusion, or doubt.  It will be worship!

Timothy Keller Sermons Podcast by Gospel in Life

Every week we gather for worship, and we move through the same order of service. But after a while, do we realize what we're doing? We're going to look at each of the elements of our services, so we can understand them and catch ourselves when we're going through the motions. This week let's look at the call to worship: what does it mean to be called to worship?  In Psalm 147, we can see 1) what we're called to do, 2) why we're called to do it, 3) how we're called to do it, and 4) when we're called to do it. This sermon was preached by Dr. Timothy Keller at Redeemer Presbyterian Church on August 24, 2008. Series: Liturgy: What we do in Worship. Scripture: Psalm 147:1-20. Today's podcast is brought to you by Gospel in Life, the site for all sermons, books, study guides and resources from Timothy Keller and Redeemer Presbyterian Church.
