It's appropriate this book involves a circus because we about to clown on it. Join the squad for a Hatepisode about Brynn Weaver's Scythe & Sparrow, the third installment in the Ruinous Love Trilogy. After Mary gives us an overview of the other two books, we get a special review of Butcher & Blackbird by Emily's dad, Charlie. Then we talk about the cringeworthy “trigger warnings” and then spend a lot of time dissecting the “spice,” which is not as transgressive as it thinks it is. After we barely survive this discussion, we get into some listener feedback. Read along for our next Bookpisode about The Bog Wife by Kay Chronister on April 15th. Then join us April 29th for an Othersode about season 3 of The White Lotus, plus a conversation with Todd about his poetry collection, Gatherer. Have you read any of the Ruinous Love Trilogy? Were hunter gatherers patriarchal or matriarchal? Neither.I had the privilege of hosting Elena Bridgers on the show to have a conversation about understanding our evolutionary past as hunter gatherers. Elena is a science writer, content creator and mom of two with a special fascination in hunter-gatherer societies and human evolution, specifically as it relates to motherhood. Elena has published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and major media outlets on these topics, grown an Instagram following from 0 to over 50,000 in just a few months, and is working on a book. We dove into how motherhood has always been at the heart of societal structures until very recently. What was motherhood like in our evolutionary past? Why does motherhood feel so hard for many women in the modern context? Exploring immediate return tribes versus those who stockpile resources. How much leisure time did our ancestors have? Understanding the beginnings of the warrior class and why were immediate return hunter gatherers serial monogamists? How we're suffering in the modern world due to lack of communal support and more.Connect with Elena on instagram here or her substack hereTimestamps:Intro 00:00 - 06:07 Our Evolutionary Past 06:07 - 11:17Hunter vs Gatherer 11:17 - 15:46Modern Society 15:46 21:20 Patriarchal Society 21:20 25:42Male and Female Roles 25:42 32:09Women and Caretaking 32:09 -37:15Highlighting Boys and Men 37:16 - 42:11Outro 42:11 - 43:47 ____________________________________________If you found some value today then help me spread the word! Over the past fifteen years of Cathy Terepocki's ceramics career she's had a diverse practice exhibiting, teaching, designing, and producing multiple collections of work. The backdrop of Cathy's studio is a large expanse of forest, with a river close by and the Cascade Mountains in view on a clear day. The influence of living close to nature is also something that has worked its way into Cathy's design practice. Cathy is most keenly aware of it in her choice of surface decoration - patterns abstracted from nature, vertical lines that mimic bare trees or grids that reference orchard rows. Glaze surfaces are inspired by mossy fence posts or the speckled smooth matte finish of a river stone. http://ThePottersCast.com/1048

Everyone loves personality tests. Author and creator of the Youtopia Project, Eric Gee, puts a new, more accurate spin on personality typing using his 20 plus years of experience. Want to know if you are a Bear, a Panda, a Peacock, an Owl and which animals you're most compatible with? The Power of Personality, Eric's new book, outlines 16 easy-to-remember animal archetypes. Eric says the first question that people ask him is "Who should I hook up with?" Yup. That's the first question people ask him when they learn about his super personal approach to personality and better relationships. Find out what you are! Take the test here: https://youtopiaproject.com/youtopia-16-assessment-2/ The Power of Personality demystifies the sixteen different personality types by teaching the reader how to identify and appreciate their own unique type and that of others. By re-examining previously held assumptions on personality (extroversion vs. introversion, type-A personalities) the reader will be able to understand a person deeper than that person understands themselves. Sara and Eric talk all about the animal types and the 4 Packs that all the animal types come under. The Packs include Hunter, Gatherer, Shamans and Smiths. Every animal from Peacocks to Butterflies fall under one of these. So you may be a different animal than someone but are within the same Pack. Sara took the test and knows she's a Peacock. Eric and she talk about these traits and others. You can use it to understand others in personal and work life. And even to look at some pop culture icons: Eric tells Sara what he thinks Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are and what their compatibility level may be. So: listen to the podcast - but one hint: Travis and Tay are both probably under the same Pack- so that bodes well. It's all fun, but as Sara saw, she really fit the Peacock and a few others took the test and there is a lot of truth in that animal kingdom comparisons. Have fun, take the test, give to others and get to know your “Tribe” even better. “I can remember walking out and there being rocks here and there. The dirt was just powder; there wasn't even weeds growing. After Ethan did all of the things with the soils. It's beautiful because we're rebuilding what was already here. Think of when an eagle that went and caught a salmon, ate it and then left some of its remnants; that's exactly what we are doing here. Because those are the nutrients that the soil needs. Little by little not only did the plants grow but we started to have rabbits, frogs, mushrooms. I mean it's own community. The relationship isn't just powerful for people it's healing the Earth, and it's like we're all dancing to the same music. Seeing the beauty of this garden, the reconnection of culture, identity, it's great.” — Marylee Jones, Gatherer and Member of the Yakama Nation With thanks to Marylee Jones & Ethan Bryson Make sure you Like and Subscribe wherever you get podcasts for more SUGi Talks.

Embarking on a transformative mission can redefine not only our own paths but the lives of countless others. That's precisely what Tony Webb of Vision USA Church Planting has done, transitioning from leading established congregations to pioneering a church-planting movement that's igniting an American Reformation. Our dialogue with Tony uncovers the seismic shifts he navigated and delves into the powerful Gatherer-Shepherd-Explorer (GSE) model—crucial tactics for church growth that defy traditional dependence on numbers and finances.Tony's journey from pastoral challenges in Gettysburg to the establishment of thriving daughter churches paints an evocative picture of ministry adaptation and resilience. Our episode peels back the layers on the church's evolution from a dominant societal force to its current secular interface, examining how the GSE model, rooted in scripture, can be a beacon of hope and innovation. We also dissect leadership structures within the church, contrasting the conventional with organic, Jesus-modeled methods that cultivate community-driven growth, emphasizing the balance between order and the kind of constructive chaos that fosters multiplication.Closing our compelling conversation, the vision for the 'Church-a-Day' in 2024 shines through, highlighting the unyielding power of unity and the relentless pursuit of spreading Jesus' teachings. This journey through Vision USA's transformative approach offers anecdotes of faith-driven individuals reaching out and reshaping communities. Listeners are invited to become part of this spirited movement, harnessing the potential within to impact the world around us with love, gathering, and the message of Christ.JOIN OUR NEW ONLINE LEARNING PLATFORM!ENTER CODE - 75ULC2023 for 75% off! Worldwide survey kills the myth of “Man the Hunter,” and tightly constraining the electric dipole moment of the electron First up this week on the show, freelance science writer Bridget Alex joins host Sarah Crespi to discuss busting the long-standing myth that in our deep past, virtually all hunters were men and women tended to be gatherers. It turns out women hunt in the vast majority of foraging societies, upending old stereotypes. After that, we learn about a hunt for zero. Tanya Roussy, a recent Ph.D. graduate in quantum physics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, discusses her work trying to constrain the electric dipole moment of the electron. She also talks about why the dipole moment being zero could be just as interesting as not zero to people studying the big mysteries of the universe—such as why matter and antimatter didn't wipe each other out at the beginning of the universe. Read a related commentary. This week's episode was produced with help from Podigy. We all hate status effects, right? There's nothing worse than being caught in the middle of a dungeon without any antidotes to cure your poison. They can single-handedly turn mild encounters into merciless romps. But would video games be interesting if we removed status effects completely? Do they serve a grander purpose in game design that we don't actually realize? Gatherer rounds kiddos. It's time to cure you of your confusion. Jason, Patrick, and returning fan favorite, special guest Kbash are here to sift through both the nitty and the gritty of Status Effects, both good and bad. Stay fresh! Today we hear the Gospel of St. John 10 where Christ our God reveals Himself as the Good Shepherd. When Jesus reveals Himself to us, it is for us both to truly know Him but also for us to become like Him from the experience of the revelation. Today, we look at three attributes of Christ's nature as our Good Shepherd. First, Jesus says of Himself that He is the Good Shepherd who pursues the sheep outside of His fold. Next Jesus says that His Sheep know Him and He knows them as He is known by the Father. Finally, Jesus tells us that He gathers His sheep into one flock under one Shepherd; a life of unity rather than division.

Shortly after Christopher moved to Japan, he became obsessed with shochu. So much so that he opened his own company in March of 2020. Chris explains to the Gurus how shochu takes on the flavor of the product which was brewed; ie sweet potato shochu tastes of sweet potatoes, barley tastes of barley etc. Additionally, they are relatively low ABV which makes them easy to drink. Click here to read more about Chris' spirits journey. Honkaku Spirits is devoted to bringing intensely artisanal Japanese spirits to discerning American customers with a particular focus on koji-based spirits including Honkaku (meaning authentic) Shochu, Ryukyu Awamori from Okinawa, and koji whiskey, an as-yet undefined but widely enjoyed category of whiskey.
