(Acts 8:1-40) Take a panoramic look at Acts 8 — a pivotal chapter that charts the advance of the gospel from Jerusalem to Judea, Samaria, and the uttermost part of the earth. Drawing on Philip the Evangelist's example, Scott Pauley outlines five practical observations: that the gospel advances by persecution, by faithful preaching, by persistent prayer, by the promptings of the Holy Spirit, and by personal, discerning witness. This lesson emphasizes both the inclusiveness of the gospel — it is for everyone — its exclusiveness — salvation is only through Christ, and its explosiveness — it makes an impact. We must advance the front line of the gospel in this generation, and to be willing to endure opposition for the sake of advancing the gospel. (Acts 21:8-9) Join Scott Pauley for the first episode In this exciting series as he begins a study called "The Gospel Christian." The word "gospel" literally means "good news" and even contains the idea of "go!" The Christian life is meant to advance the message of Christ to others. A "Gospel Christian" Is someone who not only believes and obeys the gospel, but allows it to control and shape every part of their life. Scott Pauley uses the life of Philip the Evangelist as the Spirit-inspired model of a gospel-centered life, tracing Philip's ministry from his appointment in Acts 6 to his ministry in Caesarea (Acts 21), noting Philip's role as an evangelist. Psalm 46 has served to comfort and strengthen God's people for over 3000 years. Be sure to listen to these eternal truths as Scott Pauley preaches on "Our Very Present God." Are you walking through a trial today? God is near. Psalm 46: Full Text "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. 4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. 5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. 6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. 7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. 8 Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth. 9 He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. 10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. 11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. (Haggai 1:8) Don't miss the present while you are lamenting your past. God has a work He wants you to do today and something He desires to do in the days ahead! Obey God and begin right where you are. (10049260226) The episode walks through Haggai's four dated sermons delivered over four months and highlights the main themes: the danger of waiting when God calls us to work; the trap of lamenting the past and missing present opportunity; the mistake of focusing only on the material and ignoring God's supernatural provision; and the error of magnifying opposition while forgetting God's presence and power. God has given us one book that can change the entire direction of our lives: the Bible. In this episode of Journeying Through Scriptures, host Scott Pauley takes a big-picture look at the short but powerful Old Testament book of Habakkuk, tracing its message in the context of Judah's looming captivity by Babylon and exploring how faith governs every area of life. Scott explains the historical setting—Israel's enemies and the coming Babylonian judgment—and introduces Habakkuk (whose name means "Embracer") as a godly prophet wrestling with difficult questions. The episode centers on the book's key verse, Habakkuk 2:4 ("the just shall live by his faith"), and highlights how that truth reverberates through the New Testament (Romans, Galatians, Hebrews) and fueled the Reformation. Listeners will hear the book's spiritual progression: a sob of lament (chapter 1), a vision and call to patient waiting (chapter 2), and a climactic prayer-song of trust (chapter 3). Scott draws practical lessons: bring burdens to God in prayer, wait on the Lord, rehearse God's character, and choose to rejoice even when circumstances remain unchanged. He points out how Christ's presence and justification by faith are seen throughout Habakkuk. The episode offers encouragement for anyone facing unanswered questions or national and personal crises—faith is the bridge from sorrow to praise. Scott also reminds listeners that the Word of God is meant to be walked through daily and points to ETJ's online resources at etj.bible, where you can find book-by-book study aids to enrich personal Bible reading. Expect thoughtful exposition, pastoral application, and a pastoral call to live by faith: talk to God, wait on His timing, and choose rejoicing.
