Paulbegins this chapter by saying: “Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord.To write the same things to you is not tedious to me, but for you it is safe.”Now, when Paul says, “Finally,” he is not ending the letter. In fact, hestill has two full chapters to go. The word simply means “furthermore” or “forthe rest.” Paul is introducing a new section of this wonderful book. Thefirst thing Paul says as he introduces this section is, “Rejoice in the Lord.” Thatshould catch our attention because, remember who is writing this? Paul is inprison. He might be executed. He does not know what the future holds for him.Yet he keeps talking about joy. How is that possible? It is because, as we havealready learned, Paul's joy is not found in circumstances. It is found in JesusChrist. Thereis a great difference between happiness and joy. Happiness depends on whathappens. If things go our way, we are happy. If things do not go our way, webecome unhappy. But joy is different. Joy is rooted in a relationship—ourrelationship with Jesus Christ. It is not based on circumstances. It is notbased on changing things. It is based on the unchanging character of our LordJesus Christ. That means we can have joy even when life is difficult. Thatis why James 1:2 says: “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into varioustemptations.” Notice, he did not say if you fall into trials. He said when.Trials are a part of life. Difficulties are a part of life. Heartaches are apart of life. But joy can still be a part of life because Jesus is the sameyesterday, today, and forever. He never changes. TheApostle Paul understood that praise changes things. Praising the Lord prevails over the enemy. The rejoicingbeliever discovers God's strength. Now,let me be clear. Rejoicing does not mean we ignore our pain. There may be somepeople listening today, dear friends, who are carrying heavy burdens. Maybe youhave recently received difficult medical news. Perhaps you are strugglingfinancially. Maybe you are carrying a burden for a child or a grandchild. Orperhaps you are grieving the loss of someone you love. Paul does not sayrejoice in those things. He says, “Rejoice in the Lord.” The Lord is still onHis throne. His love has not changed. His promises have not changed. His powerhas not changed. His faithfulness has not changed. His mercy has not changed. Nomatter what is happening around us, Jesus remains the same. Our joy is not inwhat we possess. Our joy is in Who possesses us—and that is the Lord JesusChrist. Then,as we look at the last part of this verse, Paul says something interesting: “Towrite the same things to you is not tedious to me, but for you it is safe.” Paulwas not afraid to repeat important truths because repetition helps us greatly.We never outgrow the gospel. We never outgrow the cross. We never outgrow ourneed to trust in the Lord. So today, let me ask you a question: What is tryingto rob your joy? Is it a difficult circumstance? A relationship problem? Ahealth concern? Financial pressure? Fear about the future? Then take a fewminutes today and focus on five things that are always true about Jesus. Repeatthem to yourself: His love never fails. His power never diminishes. Hispresence never leaves us. His work on the cross is complete. His return iscertain. When we begin to focus on these truths, I am telling you, joy willrise in our hearts. Joyis not found in perfect circumstances. It is found in a perfect Person—JesusChrist. And that joy can never be taken away. Let'spray together. Father, thank You that our joy is found in You and not in ourcircumstances. Help us to rejoice in the Lord every day when difficulties come.Remind us that You are still on the throne and that Your promises never fail.Help us to fix our eyes on Jesus and find our strength and our joy in Himalone. Godbless and may you have a wonderful, wonderful day!

Catch Me When I Fall Psalm 13:4-5 “How long, Lord? Will you utterly forget me? How long will you hide your face from me? How long must I carry sorrow in my soul, grief in my heart day after day? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look upon me, answer me, Lord, my God! Give light to my eyes lest I sleep in death, lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed,” lest my foes rejoice at my downfall. But I trust in your mercy. Grant my heart joy in your salvation, I will sing to the Lord, for he has dealt bountifully with me!” The theme for mentoring this month is “How Long, Lord?” I chose this title because I know so many people who are suffering right now and who have been for quite some time. They have been sick for so long, and they can't see an end in sight. Some have been going through struggles with their family, and they can't see a resolution. It feels like things might always be like this. Many I know are struggling with a prodigal child, and they are waiting for them to come home, but feel like it may never happen. In today's verse, David addresses this same sentiment. It begins with “How Long, Lord? Will you utterly forget me? How long will you hide your face from me? How much do I carry in my soul, grief in my heart, day after day? How long will my enemy triumph over me?” I am sure that is exactly what my friends who are suffering are asking the Lord. I am sure they are struggling to understand why they are still suffering, what the purpose is, and when they will be through it. In mentoring this month, each week, I am going to examine a song that deals with these exact feelings. I really like music; it speaks right to my soul. I also like to use songs because you can always go back to them and listen to them and hopefully they will bring you comfort. "When I Fall" by Katy Nichole is a song written out of desperation, reflecting a time when Nichole felt mentally, spiritually, and physically drained. She describes the song as a desperate prayer, expressing her exhaustion with trying to be "okay" and her desire to be honest with God. I think this is great. We should all be honest with God. I don't know why we think we can hide things from Him. He is all-knowing. That thing you are too afraid to tell Him about, He already knows. That thing you don't want to bother Him with, He already knows. There isn't anything we can hide from God. Here are the lyrics for the song: Lord, I can't find You right now And everything is crashin' down I'm losin' faith and fallin' into my doubts How long will I have to fight Just for me to stay alive? This is a true and honest song. This is something that I know those who suffer with chronic pain are asking the Lord. I am sure at times we all wonder where God is. We wonder why He is letting us go through the things we are going through, and when He is going to pull us out of it. It is hard to keep having faith and fighting, not to let our doubts get the best of us when we are so tired from all the fighting we have already done. I know You're there, God, please Just meet me here tonight My God, I'm tired of tryna be okay I've prayed all the prayers I have to pray Please don't leave me lonely My God, I need You to hold me This is the desperate plea of so many of us. We know God is there. We just need Him to hold us, even if it's just for a minute. We are all tired of trying to be okay. We are tired of having to pretend to everyone that we are ok. One of my favorite sayings is, “It's ok to not be ok.” I wish more people knew this. I wish more people would speak out and let others know they are not ok. I know so many people who seem so happy on the outside and yet are not ok on the inside. This world is a lonely place. Which may seem weird, as there are so many ways to keep in touch with friends and family. However, a lot of the relationships we have these days are superficial. We “like” or “love” people's posts on social media, but we aren't reaching out and having meaningful conversations. And, if we are being honest, we probably aren't making posts that accurately reflect how we feel inside or what life is like on a day-to-day basis. My God, I'm losin' all the hope I got I'm far beyond the point of bein' lost I've tried, but I can't let go 'Cause God, You catch me when I fall You catch me when I fall This is like so many I know. They don't want to lose their hope, but it is hard day after day when it feels like their prayers aren't being answered. When you look around, and no matter how hard you try, you can't seem to find God. What is really good is that she knows that God will be there to catch her when she falls. If she can let go of all that she thinks is supporting her and holding her up, and just fully surrender to God, then He will catch her. He will always be there to catch us when we fall. There's hardly any air in my lungs With all the damage that's been done Lord, please sustain me now I know You are enough My God, I'm tired of tryna be okay I've prayed all the prayers I have to pray Please don't leave me lonely My God, I need You to hold me The thing to remember about God is that He can repair the damage that is done. We think we need God to act now, before it is too late. However, it is never too late for God. God can replace your damaged lungs. He can repair your kidneys. He can do whatever needs to be done. God is our provision. He is our rock. Katy says in the song that she knows God is enough and is asking Him to sustain her. He will sustain you, too. I know it may feel like you just can't keep your head above water right now. God's got you. He is your arm float. He will not let you drown. He hears your prayers. The last line of today's verse says, “But I trust in your mercy. Grant my heart joy in your salvation, I will sing to the Lord, for he has dealt bountifully with me!” Sometimes we need to sing to the Lord before the breakthrough. Sometimes we need to thank God for all the unseen work He is doing. Praising when we don't feel like we can will actually make us feel better, and it will make the enemy flee. Praising can lift us up out of the darkness, even if it is only for a little while. David was asking the Lord to give him joy in his heart. He was asking for the Lord's help. We can do the same. Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening to this episode. Lord, you are so good. Help us to remember that when we feel lost in our own pain or our own troubles. Help us to remember how good you are. Lord, help us to remember you do catch us when we fall. Help us to remember you never leave our side. Lord, we need you to come and let us know you are here with us. We love you so much, and we need you now, Lord. Help us to hang in there, help us to never give up hope. Please provide us with the strength and provision we need for today, Lord. We ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen! Psalm 104 Day 9 The Difference Between Joy and Happiness Psalm 104:33-35 “I will sing my song to the Lord as long as I live! Every day, I will sing my praises to God. May you be pleased with every sweet thought I have about you, for you are the source of my joy and gladness. Now, let all the sinners be swept from the earth. But I will keep on praising you, my Lord, with all that is within me. My joyous, blissful shouts of “Hallelujah” are all because of you! We have spent the past eight episodes talking about the Lord's majesty. We talked about all the parts of nature and how amazing God is to have created all of it. We talked about how powerful He is. Today, we are talking about praising the Lord. This is one of my favorite things to discuss and do. Praise is such an essential part of our relationship with the Lord. There have been many times when I have asked the Lord what has helped me grow so much closer to Him, and he always replies, praise, you praise me so often. If we want to grow closer to the Lord, it helps to let Him know how much we appreciate all He has done and continues to do for us. God loves it when we show our appreciation to Him. It is so easy to take Him for granted if we are not careful, because there are so many things He does for us that we don't even see. It is easy to be grateful to the Lord when He saves us from the dangers we know about, the ones we can see. However, what about all the dangers God has prevented from harming us before we saw them? The verse begins with, “I will sing my song to the Lord as long as I live! Every day, I will sing my praises to God.” I hope I can say the same. I hope every day I take time to sing praises to the Lord. He does so much for us. The Lord has protected my family from some pretty scary things. I have had two kids who overdosed on drugs, and yet both are still living with no lasting effects. Our family was falling apart, and the Lord put it back together. I can't even count the number of times we needed something to work out, and God arranged the solution perfectly. God deserves my praise, and I hope I never forget that! Next, the verse says, “May you be pleased with every sweet thought I have about you, for you are the source of my joy and gladness.” This expresses a sentiment I think we all have. We all want the Lord to be pleased with us. I also like how the verse reminds us that the Lord is the source of our joy and gladness. This means we can have joy no matter our circumstances. Happiness and joy are two different things. Happiness is usually based on our circumstances. If something good and fun is happening, we are generally happy. However, Joy is different. I love Rick Warren, the author of A Purpose Driven Life's definition of Joy. He says, “Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright, and the determined choice to praise God in every situation.” Let's look at this definition a bit more closely. First, it says joy is the settled assurance that God controls all the details of my life. Can you see how we can have more joy when we realize God controls all the details? Everything is not up to me. I don't have to be perfect. I don't have to get it all right. God is in control, not me. Then, it says the quiet confidence that, ultimately, everything will be alright. Can you see how it would be possible to have joy in a difficult situation if you knew that everything would be alright in the end? Things might be crappy right now, but ultimately, eventually, things will be alright, and that makes the joy in the hard times possible. The last part of it ties right in with the verse of the day. It ends with the determined choice to praise God in every situation. Did you know you get to choose whether to praise the Lord? Praising the Lord doesn't have to be based on your feelings. There may be times when you are in the middle of something really difficult and you don't feel like praising the Lord, yet you can choose to praise Him anyway. You could be in a period of dryness with prayer or under spiritual attack, and you don't want to praise the Lord. Yet this is a great time to praise the Lord because it can lift you out of both situations. Praising the Lord when you are under spiritual attack from the enemy is a great way to make the enemy flee. Evil spirits will not stick around when you are proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ. They hate that name. Praising the Lord can bring you joy when you least expect it. Today's verse ends with, “Now, let all the sinners be swept from the earth. But I will keep on praising you, my Lord, with all that is within me. My joyous, blissful shouts of “Hallelujah” are all because of you!” The person who wrote this Psalm asks for all the sinners to be swept from the earth. This would be nice, except that we are all sinners. I am unsure who wrote this and if they had the extraordinary gift of not being a sinner, but I believe that right is solely reserved for Mary. I can see why the person would want all sinners to be swept from the earth. I am sure it breaks God's heart when we sin repeatedly. I have indeed wished that all evil could be removed from this world. However, I think removing all evil and removing all sinners are different. Each one of us sins, so we are sinners, yet I don't think we all need to be wiped off the face of the earth. Who are we to decide who is a sinner and who is not? That is for God to judge. We can only do the best that we can each day. I love how the last thing the verse says is, My joyous, blissful shouts of ‘Hallelujah' are all because of you!” Let that be true for each of us. Let us all have joyous, blissful shouts of “Hallelujah” because of all God does for us. Let us continue to sing out our praise to the Lord for all our days. Let us show the Lord how much we love and appreciate Him. Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless each listener to this episode. Lord, we want to praise you in all circumstances. Show us how. Lord, we want to understand the difference between happiness and joy. Please help us. Lord, help us to see that you are with us in good times and in bad times. Help us to have joy in all circumstances. We love you, Lord, and we ask all of this in accordance with your will and in Jesus's holy name, Amen. On this episode of Rules of the Game, we break down what the law allows when organizations comment on statements made by candidates and campaigns, and how those rules shift when addressing the actions of incumbents who may also be on the ballot. From issue advocacy to the risk of impermissible political intervention, we walk through practical scenarios and key guardrails to help your nonprofit stay compliant while engaging in advocacy to advance your mission. Shownotes Basic rule: 501(c)(3) organizations are prohibited from supporting or opposing candidates for public office, which means that their advocacy and actions have to remain nonpartisan. ·      Black and White: 501(c)(3)s can't endorse candidates, and they can't explicitly tell people who not to vote for. On the other hand, nonprofits can emphasize the importance of voting in a nonpartisan way, and they can continue to educate voters about issues core to their missions without suggesting who people should vote for in an upcoming candidate election. ·      Shades of Gray: IRS utilizes a facts and circumstances analysis to determine whether a nonprofit's communication is permissible or a violation of the tax code's electioneering prohibition for 501(c)(3)s. While not an exhaustive list, some facts and circumstances the IRS might consider include… o   Timing of the communication o   Targeted audience o   How the message relates to what candidates and political parties are saying, and more! ·      The IRS has also indicated that messaging that includes distorted facts, disparaging language, or statements not aimed at developing the audience's understanding of a mission-related issue can indicate a violation of the law.   Commenting on Candidates and Campaigns ·      No clear guidance from IRS on how to do this safely, but based on the required facts and circumstances analysis, best practices could include: o   Focusing on what was said (the issue), not who said it (the candidate) o   Avoiding discussions about candidate qualifications or whether someone is a good or bad candidate o   Scripting responses before talking to reporters or the public (since you may very well get a question related to the election and who people should vote for) o   Avoiding comments about a candidate's record or personal characteristics o   Avoiding references to voters and the upcoming election o   Not comparing your position on an issue to where the candidates stand on that issue ·      Remember: It is permissible to monitor what candidates say and do so that you can prepare for the future. o   The risk arises for 501(c)(3)s when they communicate in a way that could be perceived as attempting to influence the outcome of a candidate election. ·      Examples[NRO1] : o   "What if Candidate X states during a candidate debate that "our community's water quality meets all safety standards." Can a local environmental justice 501(c)(3) correct the record if that statement is false? §  Yes. The organization could clarify that the claim is inconsistent with recent state water quality reports. It could then point to publicly available testing data. §  The key is to avoid discussing the particular candidate who made the statement and instead to focus on the issue itself. Use this as an opportunity to educate the public on issues core to your mission. §  To minimize risk, avoid mentioning the candidate by name, issue disclaimers (reminders that you are a 501(c)(3) and that you do not support / oppose candidates for public office), and focus on issues in alignment with the organization's mission.   Commenting on the Actions & Statements of Incumbents ·      501(c)(3) public charities can criticize or praise the votes and official statements of current government officials. Best practices include: o   Focus on official actions only (without mentioning if an incumbent is up for reelection) o   Time communications to coincide with policy actions (as opposed to increasing praise or criticism in the days leading up to the election). o   Have a track-record of working on the issue, and make sure it's central to your mission. o   Include commentary on legislators and other government officials who are NOT up for reelection. If you focus solely on the actions of incumbents running for office, that can raise a red flag. o   Use nonpartisan criteria when deciding on which official actions and statements to call out and respond to. o   Exercise particular caution when commenting on an issue position that clearly distinguishes candidates in an upcoming election. ·      Example: o   What if a mayor in a 501(c)(3)'s jurisdiction decides to support funding cuts to programs that provide housing to the unhoused and services for housing-insecure community members? Can the 501(c)(3) public charity chime in? §  Yes. A 501(c)(3) could issue a press release criticizing the mayor's statement in support of funding cuts and urge the city to restore services where needed. §  The charity would want to have a history of working on related issues to ensure the statement is in alignment with its mission and history of advocacy. §  It would also want to avoid mentioning any upcoming elections or noting that the mayor is up for re-election. §  In addition, it's important for the organization to comment on the official statement and action immediately, as opposed to waiting until just before candidate elections occur. It also explains that restoring Malchus to Hashem happens through vidui devarim before a talmid chacham, and it supports this with examples from David HaMelech, Sarah Imeinu, Har Sinai, Yetzias Mitzrayim, and the future time of bayom hahu when Hashem will be one and His name one.# Anochi Yud-Kay-Vav-Kay EloheichaThe Torah begins with “Anochi Yud-Kay-Vav-Kay Eloheicha,” meaning Hashem is the constant one, the power of all powers, and the one who took the Jewish people out of Mitzrayim from the house of slaves. The speaker says “Asher hotzeiticha” implies joy and that Hashem happily brought the people out of Egypt. The pasuk is identified as the mitzvah of emunah and knowing that Hashem exists and powers every element in creation.# Keshe'adam yode'a and the Vision of Olam HabaThe first paragraph explains that when a person knows that everything that happens to him, both good and what appears bad, is really for his benefit, that state is a glimpse of Olam Haba. The speaker says bechina means a connection, and that Rav Nachman's connections are anchored in pesukim chosen very carefully. He says “me'ein Olam Haba” means a glimpse, not a taste, and that this awareness comes from knowing Hashem is only good.# B'Hashem Ahalel Davar and David HaMelechThe text brings the pasuk “B'Hashem ahalel davar, b'Elokim ahalel davar” from Tehillim and explains that David HaMelech praises Hashem both in mercy and in judgment. David's greatness is that he gives thanks in every circumstance and does not separate between good and bad. This attitude is presented as the pattern chosen by Rabbeinu Zal because David transformed suffering into praise.# Bayom Hahu and the Revelation of UnityThe phrase “bayom hahu” is explained through the Gemara in Pesachim as the future day when “Hashem will be one and His name one.” The speaker says that in the present world people experience good and bad separately because da'at is fractured, but in the future all will be seen as one complete truth. He connects this to Har Sinai, Yetzias Mitzrayim, and the idea that the final revelation will remove the split between how things appear and how they באמת are.# Malchus the Nations, and Avodah ZarahThe second section explains that it is impossible to restore Malchus to Hashem until Malchus is lifted from the nations. The speaker identifies Avodah Zarah as the attribution of power to anything outside Hashem and says the nations currently hold Malchus only because of Jewish aveiros and galus. He says the future will bring the fulfillment of “ki Melech kol ha'aretz Elokim,” when all kingship returns to Hashem.# Vidui Devarim Before a Talmid ChachamThe next section states that Malchus can be repaired only through vidui devarim before a talmid chacham, who has the bechina of Moshe Rabbeinu. The speaker says this is tied to the pasuk “kchu imachem devarim,” which he reads as words of teshuvah and admission. He explains that sins are etched into the bones and that speaking them before a tzaddik removes and elevates them, returning the broken Malchus to its root.# Sarah Imeinu and Complete Trust in HashemThe text ends with Sarah Imeinu as the model of complete emunah, because Rashi says all of her years were equally good. The speaker explains that even in her hardest רגעים she remained faithful to Hashem, and he cites the Chida, the Malbim, and the Chiddushei HaRim to show that her silence and laughter are part of a life of constant gratitude and trust. Her life becomes the clearest example of being able to say “hatov vehametiv” for everything, even until the last second and into techiyas hameisim.

In this continuation of the Gate of Flattery (Sha'ar HaChanufah), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe examines the seventh component: the sin of abstaining from rebuke (tochacha) when one knows the community or individuals are "stiff-necked" (k'shei oref) and unlikely to listen. While it's a mitzvah not to reprove a mocker who will hate you (per Proverbs), one must not assume failure without trying—perhaps the words will penetrate and inspire change. Even righteous people were punished in the Temple's destruction for not rebuking when possible. Silence can imply agreement, especially when hearing lashon hara, profanity, or mockery of Torah/mitzvot; one should speak wisely or zealously defend Hashem's honor (as in Ramchal's Mesilat Yesharim, Ch. 19), showing love for God by hating His enemies and subduing evil influence.Rabbi Wolbe stresses strategic rebuke—knowing the person (e.g., parents sometimes achieve more by silent example than words), avoiding unnecessary hatred, and recognizing when flattery or excessive courtesy to the wicked is forbidden (except out of real fear for safety). He cites Mordechai's refusal to bow to Haman as exemplary: as leader, he could not validate evil, even for peace.
